I am a patient of Dr. Hill's and received a copy of this book from her. I really enjoyed having a perspective on natural childbirth, working with a midwife, etc., from an open-minded -- but firmly evidence-based -- practitioner of conventional medicine. There's a lot of hooey out there about pregnancy and natural birth. It has really surprised me how many old wives' tales persist even on pretty mainstream pregnancy info sites. This book does a great job of telling you what the evidence is while promoting your right to make informed decisions, and doesn't shy away from calling out outdated or unnecessary conventional medicine practices, either. If you think you might be interested in natural childbirth but don't quite connect to the whole Earth-mother-goddess vibe that's in a lot of books on the subject either, this book is an excellent place to start.

This book was very helpful. I think some people can get nervous about the honest information listed but it gives you good info about choosing a hospital to give birth or birthing center or home birth. It lets you know about the different procedures offered and medications or what the all natural route will look like. Very informative. Will recommend!
