Misleading as frick. This isn't the two months between the events of the 1st and 2nd movie. This is an movie-to-comic adaptation. I love the first Guardians Movie, it's one of my favourite movies ever, but I was expecting a prelude that includes original content that relates directly to GOTG vol 2, and this wasn't it. I thought the first Guardians prelude was disappointing, but it doesn't compare to this.
The 2 older comics, the originals from Stan Lee, have so many words! In the Dr. Strange and Iron Man preludes, I didn't find it bothered me too much but one of the comics included in this volume about Mantis is so laden with words it was too hard to follow out of context of the issues that came before it. Definitely prefer the newer BMB comics.
Deceptive garbage. Not a prelude at all, rather a complete retelling of the entire first movie in comic form, followed by several recycled back catalog issues from decades ago that have no connection to the new film other than appearances by three characters MCU fans might be ignorant of (all of whose comic form, history, and attitude are at odds with and confusing to the on-screen portrayal) and rounded off with a pair of Guardian/Avenger team-ups that do nothing other than increase page count.
What I expect in these "prelude" comics is an exclusive story that leads up right to the movie I'm about to see and that also includes a lot of deep background on the characters so I can watch the movie with an added dimension of understanding and empathy.
This is not that. This is just a comic version of the first movie, plus a bunch of much older comics that mostly predate the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Granted, maybe I will feel differently and understand the relevance of some of the old comics after I see GotG Vol. 2, but as of right now I am just disappointed by this whole book.
This is misleading as a "prelude" considering the prelude issues are just a novelization of the first movie, that said the art is pretty good and isn't terrible read. I like the bendis guardians of the galaxy the most. The worst was probably the avengers considering that was only included for Mantis and that was the worst story arc plus it dragged on and on and on. 6/10
This was a well drawn and inked adaptation of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. It is not a prelude tot the second movie, it is a straight scene for scene adaptation of the first movie. That is why I gave it one star, I was disappointed there was not one new revelation or scene from a different perspective. Why call this a prelude?
A waste of time. The “prelude” comics are just a poorly drawn summary of the first movie. There’s nothing new or fresh, and honestly, the jokes don’t land in comic format (they were written for a screenplay, after all). Don’t bother.
The Bendis stories are good but the prelude story was a fine recap. The Giant Sized Avengers just went on and on and made no sense - was there ever a time that this story was interesting? The 1990 Guardians story was meh….
This is not a what happened between film one and film two. This is a sample of the Guardians comic books. We have the first film, the thirtyfirst century Guardians and the present day Guardians. I enjoyed th last story most as it was the most relevant with the characters we already know.
Kinda let down by this I thought it was the guardians of the galaxy vol 1 and 2 comic but was a bunch of different comics that had the guardians one being a story with Mantis, Wanda, vision, and kang.
Getting to read a comic with Wanda, vision, and kang was nice but the comic just started in the middle of the story and I had no idea who some characters were.
The first story was the guardians of the galaxy vol 1 and I enjoyed that one and loved the illustrations for it. Overall there was many times I just wanted to get it over with and was bored.
