Devon's pursuit of his beloved Elz led him from his castle in nineteenth-century England to a nightclub in twenty-first-century America. Elz danced before me. I watched her, encouraged by her inviting movements. My heart was beating a damn hole in my chest, and I gave in to the two feelings consuming me--arousal and gratitude.
~ Devon Phoenix, Marquess of Phoxdale
And now the saga continues...
Devon's presence in modern-day Boston has roused the enemy who now stalks Elz. Devon and Elz become entwined, body and soul, but secrets still loom. Elz needs answers. Devon, imprisoned by his vow to keep quiet, must fight his desire to give them. All he can offer is his protection and his love. Unfortunately, the shackles of silence could leave Elz vulnerable to the enemy.
Devon has recruited Jarrett Phoenix, the current Marquess of Phoxdale, to help on his mission. Though Jarrett is a good ally, he incorporates his own agenda, and the car-racing playboy attempts to seduce Elz's best friend, the ever-cautious Jaymi. But Jaymi longs for more than Jarrett offers. The four spend the summer together, and tensions climb, as Jaymi is an unwilling candidate in Jarrett's games.
Will Jarrett's fear of love keep his heart from running the course and winning the prize? And will Devon comprehend too late the real threat he faces when fighting the rival who will stop at nothing to take Elz from him?
The future holds the answers...or...does the past?
I adore castles & all they hold—people, furnishings, fashion, drama. A time travel author lost in a paranormal romance world & I wouldn’t want it any other way.

This is book 2 of a 5 book series. You must start at book one. In book 1, Devon found that an enchanted mirror in his home has the ability to show you your one true love. The problem is, Devons one true love lives in the future. He spends years watching her in the mirror, heartbroken that he can't reach her until he finds out that he can. The book ends at him time traveling to her time right before a tragic incident is about to happen that he is desperate to prevent. Book 1 ends with them finally meeting.
Book 2 starts off exactly were they leave off in book 1. Devon and Elz have finally met in person and Devon not only learns that Elz has been dreaming of him but has heard his voice when he watched her in the mirror. Now they have found out that someone else wants Elz and Devon must keep her safe.
I'm truly enjoying this series so far! This is a paranormal time travel series with a unique story line. POV's from both Devon and Elz. There is also another love match going on between Devon's sister and his best friend to come. I'm looking forward to continuing on to book 3. ARC provided by NetGalley.
I dont do low stars often but sometimes its needed unfortunately. This book didnt do anything for me. I read the first one and it was ok but kinda slow. This wasnt much different. A bit boring. There's just too much information dumped and its hard to find the direction of the story and characters. Sorry.
I became familiar with this author through the first book of this series, Phoenix Decree. She writes beautifully and weaves a story that crosses boundaries of time and space. Devon and Elz have come to love each other, though centuries separate them, and now, in modern day Boston, they can truly pursue their love in spite of the threat of a deadly enemy. Author Albergucci ably combines the essence of early 19th century language and customs with the culture, mores and trappings of this modern time to present a very engaging tale that builds suspense and exciting throughout the story. It reaches a memorable resolution and leaves the door open for continuing the story in future books. Really should be read after having competed the first book for full understanding. Highly recommended to any one who love books involving time travel and paranormal romance.
This is the second book in the series and it picks up where the first one left off so you need to read them in order. This is the continuation of Devon and Elz's journey but also the secondary characters journeys. We see more from other characters as well. In the first book, Devin was warned that Elz would attract evil men to her and this is where we really start to see that. I am definitely addicted to this series and can't wait to keep reading. I am waiting for Jarrett and Jaymi to get it together so we can see them together!!
Let me just start with the great things about this tale. The characters are amazing and played their romantic roles wonderfully. The mature scenes were on point, pure heat blazing off the pages. I could really envision this storyline as a daytime soap opera. The love the spans across all time barriers. I really found each scene and scenario well thought out. I am positive readers looking for a book concentrating on romance would be elated to read this series!
This book didn't do anything for me and is basically just like the first one. The first one was just OK but very slow in my opinion and this wasn't that much different. I would say these books are like a soap opera, so if you are into that kind of story pick up the pack of books. A warning these books don't have a clear end..... "TO BE CONTINUED". Really the Author should have just done 1 book instead of taking 1 book and selling it as 3 books that just end in the middle of chapters.
This was an odd one for me. It was like a bit of a historian, romance, and kind of paranormal novel. I don't know for me it was hard to get into. I couldn't really connect with the characters I'm not sure if it's because I haven't read the first book. The story moved a little slow for me I just couldn't get into it. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
Phoenix Unbound picks up where The Phoenix Decree left off. That said, you must start with book one. This book is a captivating and very intertaining read. I could not put it down for a second. The charaters continue to hold your attention throughout this continuation of their story as they did in book one. I just loved this book so much. A must read for sure!!
On my way to buy next book. Excited to read more! Plenty of adventure left to unfold. So many deep characters involved. I really appreciate the range of veiw points. Seeing each person's perspective as the story flows.
Learning about the other "man" intent on having Elz as his own is fascinating. I am loving this series so much. The time travel and other paranormal elements make it right up my alley.
While this book doesn't end in a cliffhanger, really, it does finally take us back to the past just before the end, preparing us for what's to come. And I am excited to see just what that is!
At the end of The Phoenix Decree, the first book of the series, our Devon Phoenix has learned a lot about himself and his destiny. He has traveled through time to find his true love and met a distant relative before finally coming face to face with his beloved Elz.
Once together, Devon and Elz relationship immediately becomes a sizzling love affair! It was spicy, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The sappy love between them was not really my favorite type of romance as I prefer a sassy one (like with Jaymi & Jarrett), but I could easily overlook the mushy exchanges because the steam between them kept me occupied.
Speaking of Jarrett, what the heck, dude? Grrrr...
I want to root for Jarrett. I really, really, really do! But the guy needs to give me something to root for, here! His idea of how to secure Jaymi in his future is just terrible. For such a smart man, he really is an idiot when it comes to relationships. I sincerely hope he will wise up soon, before he ruins his chance of real happiness. My confidence in him is waning.
The time travel and paranormal/fantasy theme isn't as strong in this book, but it does make an appearance toward the end which was a nice surprise. We're introduced to a new creature and the character's mysterious past is intriguing, especially his connection to Elz. I'm sure we'll learn more about him in the next book. The danger to Elz becomes more prominent in the second half of the book, as well, reminding us that this isn't just a romance. It's far more than that.
I took off half of a star because of a certain portion of the book where I had a hard time preventing myself from skimming. I don't usually fret over a bit of "telling" instead of "showing", but there was a lot of in depth explaining of the time traveling concept, which I could have done without. I prefer for some level of mysticism to remain so the story feels more fanciful than scientific.
In closing... The story is getting more complex and wilder as it goes. I missed Kyle and Pris in this one but I foresee them getting more "page time" in the next installment. I am also looking forward to seeing this modern day family attempt to acclimate to 19th century living! Should be an entertaining read. 4.5 suns!
This is book two in the "The Phoenix Decree" Saga. This is a continuation on book one 'The Phoenix Decree' so I would advise reading that one first. This is a paranormal / time travel type of book also. After reading the first book I have found that I am hooked on this series. I quickly went and got the other book and read them one right after the other. To me these books are so hard to put down. They have of course the main couple : Devon Phoenix and Elz Valli. But they have several secondary characters that really don't feel secondary..they too have a love story going on. Also this book does narrate to not just the hero and heroine but all characters in the book. I found that I liked that part as it gave you in site to what they were thinking. This book deals with Deven and Elz after they meet and find that someone else wants Elz and what they have to do to keep her safe. It starts to go into the part where there is shifting between a person and their inter-beast. This is a good series to start if you are looking for the next one.
I received this book from net gallery for an honest review.
Wow this second instalment literally blew me away and I absolutely loved it.
Elz and Devon's love is mind blowing and you can feel it's depth and intensity throughout.
Faramond warned Devon of the men that will pursue Elz and this book definitely starts to give you an idea of how far a man is willing to go.
I liked how Anna includes other characters perspectives. Jarrett and Jaymi are attracted to each other but will Jarrett ever come to his senses? Jarrett was so frustrating, typical man! I'm intrigued in regards to how things will turn out between these two.
The book was fantastic and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it.
This book made me sad. The author tells a great story but you have to hunt to find the storyline. It's gets so bogged down with descriptions of mundane daily happenings and gratuitous sex I almost didn't finish the book. And I have a bone to pick with Ms Albergucci....I'm going to paraphrase this bit....Griffin, a minor character says he would punch a man if the guy looked at him lovingly. News Flash! Gay men read romance novels and don't appreciate the idea of one of their brethren getting punched for seeming to care. After all the bitching will I read the sequel? Yes, I've bought it and I'm already on chapter three.....like I said, the author tells a good story and I'm able to overlook the ad fore mentioned problems.
A worthy successor to the first installment of the Phoenix decree. The author seldom repeats information, assuming correctly that her readers are intelligent enough to have read and remembered the first book. I can't tell you how refreshing that is. That said, this book comes to deal almost equally with the relationship between Jayme and Jarrett, another intelligent move.
