Make goodbyes fun with animal rhymes and colorful lift-the-flap illustrations!
“So long!” “See you later!” There are so many ways to say goodbye! Lift the flaps in this colorful book to discover favorite animals (and maybe a few new ones, too) and fun goodbyes. Children and grown-ups alike will be giggling before you can say, “Toodle-Loo, Kangaroo!”
I have always loved the 3 phrases I know of these fun goodbyes (see yah later Alligator), but learning more is awesome and the kids like them too! A great goodbye book for toddler/preschool range!
This book is a testament to human creativity. It captures the essence of goodbyes in their most pure form. While I didn't expect much from this book at first glance, I was wholly unprepared for the absolute joy it would bring me that only grew with every page turn and flap lift. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone as a simple ode to the beautiful complexities of farewells.
Until my next review, ciao now brown cow! (Or if you're being difficult, hit the road yellow toad!)
Perfect for the crowd it’s designed for. Sturdy happy fun and silly. Make it as interactive our goofy while reading it as you want. Getting this one for my favorite little nibling who has discovered waving and waves with all her heart. Hope she has a blast reading this one with her mama 💜
Love Love Love! This book would be so much fun as a read-aloud and kids could guess what the next animal is based on the rhyme. Great for vocabulary and rhyming.
This lift-the-flap book is so much fun and teaches all kinds of silly goodbye saying that kids will love saying to you when you drop them at daycare or leave them with Grandma.
We all know the usual goodbye sayings like “See you later, Alligator.” and “After a while, Crocodile.” but there are plenty more that kids will love learning.
Each page spread has a goodbye saying with the beginning on one page and the ending of the goodbye under the flap. Your kids will love repeating them and choosing their favorite. Plus once they learn the sayings, they will be able to read the book to themselves and start recognizing words.
I could see gifting this book to grandkids you don’t see very often or if your toddler is struggling with goodbyes at daycare, this might make the goodbye session fun and more tolerable. I’ve purchased several of the Gibbs Smith children’s books to give as gifts and have loved all of them.
Hailey & Kevin Meyers have turned one of my favorite good-bye rhymes into a lift the flap book. Children love interactive books like pop up and lift the flap books. This kind of interactivity builds print motivation, a child’s interest in and love of books and reading. I think I will read the book as an introduction to the rhyme and then teach them the motions togo wit the rhyme.
Every once in a while you find a fun board book that just has to be shared. Gotta Go, Buffalo by Kevin and Haily Meyers is just one of those books. This lift-the-flap board book presents multiple ways to say goodbye. The illustrations and interactive features will surely bring toddlers back again and again to read this together with a caregiver. For ages 2 - 5.
Lift-the-flap book with flaps going different directions; highlights animal-themed goodbye expressions; there is plenty to look at in the illustrations, and leads to creating your own silly rhymes. Since we recently went to Antelope Island and saw lots of bison there with a grandson, this was a fine extension activity.
The tone of the book was great, I could see what the author was going for here.
Sweet ending and the flip ups were fun. I might actually take away some of these rhymes. I was disappointed *spoilers* that there was no “after a while crocodile”. It’s imperative for my 1 week old baby to learn the difference between alligators and crocodiles
When your toddler is talking back to the story and takes it out of your hands to start back at the beginning again once it's over, you know you've got a winner. He knows "goodbye" very well, and kept repeating it to the butterfly! Cute illustrations and very catchy for the little ones.
Very cute. I love that this book gives the opportunity to guess what's coming next (thanks, rhyme scheme!). Still, I didn't think some of the text on the flaps had enough contrast, so it might not be the best book for a storytime where not everyone is very close to the book to see it.
I love this book! Probably the best lift the flap books I've seen in a while. The dad jokes are strong with this one. I use many of these with my students when we get the line moving. Now, I have more in my arsenal. See you soon, big baboon.
A certain small child friend of mine thought I should read this book. Who know I could expand beyond "see you later, alligator, after a while, crocodile, not at soon, big baboon?" Obviously, he did!
