Edge of your seat quick read (YA?) ...first in a trilogy or if a series, number 4 isn't out yet...USA is off the grid caused by what the skinheads in Mt Pleasant believe are suitcase nuclear bombs being detonated across the country by their fellow brothers... the damage is a wide spread attack on US soil and part of their overall plan to take back America... in Mt. Pleasant, OR (population 800) that is exactly what the skinheads are trying to do and anarchy is thriving...brave citizens...a navy seal...adolescent boys from JV Camp Zero...are thrown together to fight or flee...violence...rough language...fast paced...heart pounding action...I could not put this 357 page book down...ordered book 2 and 3 which with amazon prime, should be in today...perhaps a stronger editor might have caught some grammatical and spelling errors...but overall, good story Jack Hunt...a timely read...

The book needs a lot of editing, but the plot was intriguing. I did have trouble at some points with the secondary characters (Billy, Luke, etc) and keeping them straight. I almost felt Dan could have been left out of the book all together, maybe he has a more important role the next book but in this one he kind of disappears. The story on a whole could of been fleshed out more for character development, I would have loved to see progress between Sam and his foster parents before the ending.

I'm not enjoying this series as much as his other. But that's a personal preference.

I imagine others might enjoy this series but it's not my cup of tea. Too much violence and bloodshed without enough story in between. If you like blood, death and violence on every page you will love this book. I'm going to read the 2nd book in the series because I want to know what happens. But I wouldn't read them again. Again...just my personal preferences.

Interesting Read

A different take on the reason for the end of the world. I wasn't sure I would like this one but I love Hunt's writing so I gave it a try. Immediately in the action but still time to get to know the characters and some of their back story. Fast read but great story. On to book #2!

Well hell.....

Another fantastic start to another Jack Hunt series ! This guy is right up there with Stephen King and David Beers, in my opinion!!! Luckily, we can get them through Kindle Books Unlimited so they don't cost an arm and a leg!!! LOL Now on to book two!!!!!!!!!

Character driven

As always, for me, caring about the people means they must seem real. Jack Hunt excels in character building.

I am on my way to purchase the next book in this series . . . .

Different than most EMP stories

Interesting take on the EMP novel. Neo_nazi angle and the battle for the city make this more unique. I enjoyed reading it and recommend it to others.

Oddly Fitting

Stumbled on this book while looking for something new to read. In the news now, there is nothing but Nazis, so this was chilling.

It's a good book, needs a proof reader, but it entertains enough that I bought Book 2! I would recommend it, for sure.

I enjoyed it. I really liked the part when they were fighting in the house and also flipping the log truck. I saw a few Grammer mistakes but it didn't bother me

Scared of skinheads?

This was written well. I look forward to the next book. I only caught a couple grammatical errors, and I can live with that! This book is totally believable.

Needs editing

I read hundreds of books and do not often give up but after 63%of this one I quit. I liked the premise and some characters but cliches and gratuitous profanity became too much.

Good story

Interesting storyline, believable characters. But this needs some serious editing. The excessive errors make it hard to get into the story.

For the writing and some of the premise, for me, this was 2.5 stars. There were some grammatical and editing errors. For a lot of books you have to just accept the basic premise as being true, but I couldn't quite get there with this book. This very small town had around 800 people yet 240 or so were Neo-Nazi skinheads? This was not a strategic location of any kind. And the movement nationwide was so well organized that they could denote 80 some suitcase-sized nukes all over. If you want to take back the country, you might not want to cause so many hot zones. This group of skinheads in Idaho were not prepared enough to have exceptional weapons and fire power to overwhelm the local population. I did like the twist of the repentant skinhead and the action was fast paced and kept my attention, so I upped it another half star.

Really?

Talk about improbable scenarios?

Had to stop reading after just a few chapters. Plot meanders, and it seems like small chunks of the book disappeared during the editing process.

And the sceneario was, to say the least, improbable to the point of ridiculousness. The skinheads of America--or at least, Idaho--are taking over the world? I live in SE Idaho, and I literally haven't seen a single skinhead since moving here in 2010. Do they exist at all? I'll concede they may in other parts of idaho, but their numbers are so small as to be virtually extinct.

I'm saving my reading time for some more plausible.

Good story

This book has great potential for an EOTEAWKI novel. The neo-Nazi aspect makes it very different than others I've read. The story is plausible and quite fast-paced, unfolding with an exciting storyline with flashbacks that serve to break up the action and provide character insight. The characters weren't as well developed as I'd like- I often got several of them confused and found myself going back to double check who someone was.

In full disclosure, I won this in a goodreads.com giveaway. I have mixed feelings about this book. It starts out extremely strong. You know each character through and through without knowing much about them at all. Unfortunately, once the main action kicks in, they become a little flat. You have to suspend your disbelief pretty far to go along with the plot. I believe this is the first in a series, but it didn't enthrall me enough to read the next installment.

State of Panic

This was a very different apocalyptic book than I usually read but I loved it. I loved the storyline and the characters. I read it front to back in one sitting and plan on starting the second installation this afternoon. I won't give any hints but suffice it to say that I recommend this highly.

Great blend of fiction and reality

Unexpectedly interesting. This book takes a look at the reasons why people make the choices they do, while at the same time showing the consequences of those choices. The story was good and kept me interested throughout. The thought provoking insight made it even better

What different apocalypse book

Totally unexpected "bad guys". It took me a while to wrap my head around it. What made it a delight to read was great editing and a good storyline. If communities ban together instead of disagreeing things can get accomplished.
