Winter
Rise of the Pride, Book 2
Winter Blue, Guardian of the Shaw Pride, has sworn to protect the beautiful and stubborn Nova Raines. His panther knows that she is his mate, but Winter’s refusal to touch her causes him to almost destroy their fragile relationship when she is attacked by a human male and left for dead behind the bar that she owns.
The wolves are still on the loose, and when a rogue panther comes forward with information, the pride soon realizes that the male who assaulted Nova is a wolf and will stop at nothing until he kills her. The panthers assemble with a plan, ensuring that the pack of wolves are destroyed so that the pride can live in peace.
When Nova’s ability to protect herself is questioned, Winter has to make the decision to change her into what he is to save her life or leave her vulnerable to his enemies. His reasoning for keeping her human could also be the one thing that takes her life for good when the last remaining wolf returns to finish off the job.

Life is a matter of choice. Choosing what we want to be is a privilege and accepting what is ours is a gift. We can not choose what was given when we are born but we can choose the life ahead when we can decide on our own. After all we choose what is the best for us, but sometimes decisions have consequences. Love will always prevail in the end. It's just a matter of touch and the panther will soon come out.

3.5 ratings. Almost the same plot as the first one and resolve some issues left in the first book.

Looking forward to the savaging story of next book... 😉 Hoping the Panthers' next installment has a huge difference to the last two... Or I just become a savage and end the mary (merry) and make a graceful exit and be done with this.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I always read reviews before I move onto my next book and after reading Talon, I read the reviews for this book and one of the things I saw in multiple reviews was Nova's actions were childish. Well I disagree, I look into account her age (21), and I didn't think her actions were childish at all, not after reading the book. I kept waiting for this big stupid thing that she was going to do, and it never came, quite frankly, I believe that Liberty's actions in book 1 were more reckless and childish than Nova's.

So obviously this book centers on Winter and Nova. I enjoyed the dynamics between them and watching Winter's internal struggle in regards to touching Nova and making her his mate, only to spare her from the pain of the change. This book is a cute light read for all the paranormal fans who would like to breeze through a good hearted story.

Winter Blue, Guardian for the Shaw Pride want Nova Raines, a human for his mate but is fighting to act on the feelings of his beast because of the danger and pain it will cause Nova to become like him and become a panther shifter. He knows first hand because he was changed from human to shifter about five years ago to save his life.

The wolves from Tennessee are still after the Shaw Pride, holding two young panther children as hostages and sneaking around to find a way to get the Talon, the Alpha. Winter is full of action, personal conflicts and the growth of the pride too.

She’s angry, he’s hungry for her, she wants him, he’s stubborn, there is just a whole lot of twisty emotions, every page a new feeling. Like teenagers on a sugar high, this was hard to enjoy.

I really liked the first book in this series and I started Winter straight away after finishing Talon as I just had to know what was going to happen next in the pride. The best part of starting a series that already has a few books published is that I can just keep reading.

Winter was a made panther, not born. His panther knows instinctively that Nova is his mate. Yet he refuses to touch her to find out for certain. Yes, Nova is attracted to him, their bantering, arguing ritual is well formed now but still he holds back. The other member of his pride will tease and taunt him but he is determined to not touch her.

This is another awesome story but the author. I would recommend this story and series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance fans.

I lost sleep over this one. I really liked the first book in this series, and the best part of starting a series that already has a few books published is that I can just keep reading. Granted I should have put it down last night and finish reading it today, but I just couldn't. Winter and Nova are a great couple, both a little hard headed and on edge, with the new dangers they are facing. The story was well woven and kept the suspense up until the end and left me wanting for more! I love the fact that even though the story centers around Winter and Nova, that the other members of the pride are given time in the story to develop a world that seems whole.

I first met Winter in Talon and fell in love with his character instantly! Theresa Hissong didn't let me down either. Although there were time I wanted to smack him upside the head he is still my favorite leading man in Rise of the Pride.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

In the lore for Rise of the Pride, shifters know and discover their mate by touch. One touch can give all the answers ever asked. When one person is human, it’s a bit different but the human usually feels a strong attraction to the shifter. Once that touch is made, any other male who touches the female will cause her unbearable pain that only their mate can ease.

Winter was once human and he refuses to allow “fate” to dictate who loves him back. Yes, he wants Nova, loves her on some levels but it’s not love if she does’t have the right to choose him back but be under some “fated influence” to be his. No, he’ll get her to love him, then he’ll touch her. And while that might make perfect sense to Winter – it will put Nova in grave danger from an enemy that is out to destroy everything they are.

Winter is a fast paced, sexy, intriguing story. While it is a complete story of Winter and Nova, it also continues the threaded mystery and life with the pride that was started in Talon. The members of the pride that we’ve met before, and some new faces, continue their lives adding more information and the hints of stories yet to come. Winter gives us an intense romance, and also moves the stories of the other members of the pride along with developments that happen in this story.

I’m enjoying this series very much. Not only for the really good story line and characters, but also for the thought provoking idea of the power of touch. While reading these stories I’ve tried to imagine a world where the most casual of touches would cause intense pain to a woman who has found her one love. It might at first glance sound romantic that only her man’s touch can be tolerated, yet it’s given me much to think about with this particular introduction of lore into the shifter world.

I would recommend this story and series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. You’ll find a provocative story, interesting characters, danger, sexy moments and a group of people that you’ll soon be quite comfortable with. I do have one strong thought – because of the woven threads in this series I do not believe it can be read out of order. Events flow from one story to the next and if you hop around you’ll miss some important aspects of the series. In my opinion.

I own a copy of this story.

Winter is the second book in the Rise of the Pride series and the continuing story of Liberty's sister Nova and the Panther who falls in love with her, Winter.
In the previous book there was an attraction between Winter and Nova but for whatever reason Nova took Winter's shyness as disinterest and since then they haven't really progressed further in their relationship.

I liked this story better than Liberty and Talon's but there is still so much that is just "What did I just read?".

What I didn't like:
- the way Winter talks to Nova when his panther comes to the surface. There is a lot of yelling, growling, ordering. Not sure why either Nova or Liberty allow such verbal treatment.
- the description of the features of Nova, "tiny legs"/"large breasts", really?
- the depiction of the werewolves as ruthless and mean, with only vague details that it was the way of the wolves to cheat and force themselves in to own land and packs
- destroying of clothes other than for unexpected changes into panthers (I would be so pissed off if I had to replace my wardrobe every couple of months because my partner is using claws to undress me)

What I liked:
- the humour between Nova and Winter, when Winter's panther is content
- that Winter is denying his beast, because he doesn't want to turn Nova, and he at least wants to fall in love with her before he and his panther claim her
- the need to protect their females from harm and giving children and young adults a pride to thrive in
- more explanation of how the change actually works, covering the three days of pain and the dangers of creating a panther inside a human body

Again I have questions that aren't really get answered.

Overall it is a good continuation of the first book and introduces the characters for the upcoming books.

Thank you Midniteillusion

At the start I was a bit unsure of this one and it took me a little to get used to the authors voice, and to be honest I really should have read the first one before starting this one as this one picks up after the end of the first book and happenings are continually referenced, so that was my bad.

Once I got over that and was in the story, it was quite enjoyable. I liked Winter but also found him frustrating at times. I understood why he didn't want to change Nova but he had to understand that he was leaving her at a disadvantage.

I liked Nova and the fact that she wasn't ever scared of Winter and stood up to him all the time. She wasn't someone that constantly needed saving, she was capable to looking after herself.
Not a bad series that I will continue on with.

Winter and Nova

So I finally got to read the second book and let me say that I was not disappointed. So we find out more about Winter Blue and he has his sights set on Nova Raines , only he finds out when something happens to her. These two are perfect for each other. She is head strong, caring, and vocal. Winter's feelings are reserved when it comes to Nova. However, one sure thing is that he will protect her at any cost. So as you know, they did not stop the evil wolf in book one. So will they end the threat this time around. I loved the story line and loved how the author drops hints of what may come. There is action and oh boy some smexy times. The love and emotions are strong in this book. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.

New series off to a great start with books 1 & 2!

Nova and Winter are a strong couple... But not until near the end of the book. Winter doesn't want to force the shifter life onto her (reminded me of a sparkly vampire.) The action and plot are crafted well.
This series is a great burst into the shifter universe. There are new rules and I gotta say, they work! The extras are very cool.
I'll continue to read the series as long as the stories are as strong as Talon and Winter!
(Open door intimacy between mates can be skipped without missing any essential aspects of the story.)

Book 2 in rise of the pride.

Was really looking forward to winter and nova's book after reading the second book and it didn't disappoint. Lots of action and really fast paced. Loved the build up between the charachters of winter and nova. Phew...steamy!!

I'm enjoying reading the sub story that runs alongside the main story ( involving the alphas younger brother and girlfriend... interested to see what that's going to lead to )

Great book great read.

Arc given in exchange for an honest review

Nova and Winter's story is a sweet, light read! I loved the dynamic between the two. I really enjoy Ms. Hissong's writing style. I like the length. It was a quick afternoon read.
I really love how Ms. Hissong stayed true to her world building and character developement. She wrote Nova as a great character who is very early twenties and acts it. She makes some mistakes, but everything works out in the end. Winter is well written as a guardian and pack leader. I look forward to where she takes this story!

Winter and Nova

The second book in Rise Of a the Pride series. This book is a standalone novel and can be read as such but a part of the series. The reader is introduced to characters from the first book and continues the theme of the books. The setting is great and the characters are well written and well developed. Winter and Nova do get their HEA but there are new developments and answers revealed. A great addition to the series.

These panthers are fierce and protective

I've lo Ed getting to know the Shaw pride first with Talon and Liberty and now with Winter and Nova. Novas character is a bit of a spitfire, she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. Winter on the other hand is fighting his desires for Nova trying to protect her from his world.

The world that is being developed here is rich and captivating I can't wait to see more of the guardians find their mates.

This book the the second book of The Rise od the Pride series. Winter is one of the pride's Guardian, who is shiffted in jaguar. He never touched any female, because he wanted to touch only his mate. Nova is Liberty's sister, the mate od Talon, the leader of Pride. When a werewolf attacked her and she was beaten to death Winter saved her. The second part is better than the first, in my opinion, not only for characters but also for the plot.

Nova’s Rise

Winter and Nova’s story was awesome ! Aggressive wolves wanting the Pride attack Nova and the hunt is on ! Winter’s past keeps him from claiming Nova , until she’s attacked several times, he finally claims her, just not as he should. Read this story to see how they work it out . Lots of sexual tension and when they give in … it burns up the pages ! 5✨’s for a blazing hot paranormal romance.

I LOVE everything about Winter!!

This was a great book and I would and have already recommended it to all of my friends. I love Nova and Winter, the love that these panthers have for their true mate(s) Nova and Liberty's strength and independence, how the guardians protect women, their pride and especially, their life mates. Saving Calla and her brother from the wolves was just awesome and I can't wait to read the next book and the entire series!!

I really truly love this series. I always go for books with alpha males who are overprotective and possessive and this series is the perfect series for that. Mega alpha males. I'm loving it. Again, I wish this series was on KU because now I have to wait a couple more weeks before I can get the next book.

A hot slow (but not too slow) burn with characters that I really enjoyed, I was not disappointed in this next book in the series. The main characters are flawed enough, yet still likable and it is was a pleasure being in their world while I was reading. It flowed well and had good heat between the main characters.

Oh my God! Winter Blue is such an intense character and his mate Nova is just perfect for him. I couldn't put their book down. Their love story was compelling, powerful, angsty and so hot. It has cemented my love for the author's work so much that I can't wait to read the next story. A must read for sure.

Just wow.
I loved the unknown with this one. Not knowing when Winter was going to pull his finger out and just touch Nova was brilliant.
The tension was great throughout and I love how between the main story there are underlining currents from other characters with their stories yet to be read.
Looking forward to the next one.

Winter=Stubborn Nova=Hellcat

The story of Winter and Nova will make you laugh, cry, want to throw your kindle (or book), and the make your heart fly. Too stubborn for his own good, Winter almost cost himself everything. Nova knows what she wants but is determined not to make the first move.

What an A * * hat as Nova called him! I laughed and was scared to death a few times! Another winner for Theresa and an awesome read! LOVE PANTHERS!!!!!,

Winter

I loved this book even more then Talon's book. Nova just wanted Winter so bad but he refused to touch her. She figured he didn't want her. Winter wanted Nova but refused to turn her. These two had a lot to over come. There was a lot of twists and turns. Loved it and I can't wait for Savage next.
