BETRAYED, HUNTED, UNFORGIVEN, and COMPELLED: The Cyn & Raphael Novellas
These novellas can stand alone or be enjoyed as part of the series.
BETRAYED: Vampires in America 5.5
War has come to the North American vampires, and Vampire Lords are reaching across territorial lines to strengthen allies and weaken enemies. The most powerful Lord of them all, Raphael, could change the course of the war and determine who raises the final banner of victory. But at what price? And will his mate, Cyn, be the one to pay it?
HUNTED: Vampires in America 6.5
The Lord of the Midwest is dead, and the powerful vampires of North America are gathering to choose his successor. The Vampire Council will be there to oversee the competition—each of them focused on keeping the violence to a bloody minimum, including Raphael, who will do whatever it takes to ensure the victor is a vampire he can trust. But someone is hunting, determined to stop Raphael and his mate, Cyn, from ever reaching Chicago.
Soon, the hunter may become . . . the hunted.
UNFORGIVEN: Vampires in America 7.5
War is imminent, and a spy has infiltrated Raphael’s estate. But his target is not Raphael; it’s his sister, Alexandra, whose earlier duplicity nearly cost Cyn her life. Raphael and Cyn are determined to play the spy’s game, traveling to Mexico to discover who their enemy is and just how far he’ll go to win. But once Raphael finds his sister, can he take the chance that she won’t betray him again?
COMPELLED: Vampires in America 10.5
It was only a few months ago that Raphael lay helpless and dying, taken by treachery, while Cyn fought to save him. Unexpectedly, it was Nick who provided the key to his freedom. In exchange, he secured a promise that they would help him find and recover the same magical artifact that had been used to imprison Raphael. But when he calls on them to keep that promise, it will be Cyn who pays the price.
Torn between the two powerful men, struggling to keep them from killing each other, she undertakes a desperate search that will find her fighting for her life against a madman who wants her for himself.

This is a condensed version of my reviews for all three novellas.
Betrayed 4.5 Stars *Fast paced *Plenty of action, mystery and suspense. Lots of steamy scenes. *Cyn meets Jared for the 1st time. Jared is Raphael's new lieutenant. While Cyn & Raphael are in Colorado they become the target of a sniper and the action begins. Not only do they have to deal with the attack, but also the mechanics of their relationship. Some very intense moments. *We are also introduced to Lucas.
Hunted 3.5 Stars *It was okay. *Overindulgence of adult scenes. Would have been better if there was more action and suspense. To many words wasted on too many sex scenes. I like hot steamy adult scenes, but this one seemed to rely way to heavily on them. It takes away from the characters and the story itself.
Unforgiven 4 Stars *We get closure on Raphael's sister, Alexandra. *We also get the an intro to Vincent & Mexico. There is plenty of steamy adult romance. Well written suspense and intrigue. A lot of action. I really enjoyed it.
All 3 ratings added together equals 4 solid stars. The 1st and last were my favorites. Great additions to the series. Answers a lot of questions. Gives the world build more details and ties up some loose ends.
This set of Novellas are after books 1-5 of the American Vampire series. You will want to read those first. I made the mistake of not reading them first and have learned spoilers, but that is ok. I'm still going to go back and read from the beginning because this series is fantastic! It's much more than a romance series. There are a lot of Vampire politics and a lot of players that take time to get to know but it's worth the investment if you love a good vampire story!
I adore this series and yes even the novellas pull me in . The author takes time to reaffirm Raphael and Cyn's passionate relationship but there are cracks that are joyfully exploited. Imagine being mated to a vampire who believes he is nigh on indestructible but there's always a slim chance that someone will do the impossible. Their love is vivid in this readers mind but for Cyn and indeed Raphael too it's still a relationship that needs work. It's been apparent for some time that the European vampires have got their eye on the prize that is North America and the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down . We get glimpses of Lucas and Aden and there's even mention of Vincent but perhaps the story that stands out the most is the one featuring Cyns ex lover Nick as the alpha Raphael just can't stand him! Fun and so delicious to read! As usual the author raises the temperature with hot hot scenes but for this reader it's the growth between the previously emotionally absent Raphael and his gun toting Cyn that draws me in.This series is so worth reading and best read in order. There is joy to be found here as the author now has the ability to go off and create a whole new series that connects with this . If you enjoy paranormal romance and haven't started this series you are well and truly missing out! I was gifted a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
A great set of novellas that move the over-arching story arc from the 'Vampires in America' series. They add to and enhance the love story of Cyn and Raphael. Well worth reading and best read in context of the main novels and in the correct order.
Amazing, funny, intriguing series I love the vampires in America series brilliantly wrote by the author I recommend signing up for email updates fantastic keeps you hooked from the first page to the last page
I really love this series. The author has created a vampire world this is so smart, with great plots and lots of action and love. The vampires are part of society and the North American vampires have separated the continent into sections with Vampire lords ruling their own section. They are all good vampires that try to keep the peace and take care of the bad vampires and sometimes humans also. I really love the characters and after reading this series so far they feel like family. I dislike that each story has to end but can not wait to get to the next story. I have been reading vampire books every since Twilight came out and there are many great authors and this author is one of the best!
Really good book. The novellas in this bundle lets you see deeper into Cyn and Rapheal's life between the big books. I learned more about Nick the sorcerer who used to be a very close friend of Cyn before she met Rapheal. It also is a lead into the new series The Stone Warriors now I want to read that series too.
I totally enjoyed this book series. The character definitely had me in a chokehold until the very end. Cyn and Raphael as a couple was the best thing that could have happened for the storyline. Cyn’s complicated emotional state and Raphael’s complicate life of a vampire added some extra spice tot heir stories that I totally enjoyed. Please do continue to write more exceptional books like these.
Chose this rating as this was the highest it would go loved the characters and the storylines so it's a well deserved five stars and I would recommend this book to everyone
D.B. Reynolds provides her readers with more of their favourite couple Cyn & Raphael in Betrayed.
Always one to protect his mate, Raphael is reluctant to let Cyn participate in an investigation into threats against his life.
Cyn knows Raphael is withholding something from her, but is not prepared for the depth of his betrayal. This short story shows even the best intentions can fracture eternal love.
HUNTED…….
A Vampire war is looming, the challenge has been begun for a new Vampire Lord of the Midwest and an assassin lurks in the background.
Add to the mix Cyn & Raphael and you have an explosive, thrilling, action packed adventure with the usual amount of smouldering sexuality, which only this sensual couple can provide.
D.B.Reynolds has again demonstrated why she is an exceptional writer, with a wealth of devoted readers.
UNFORGIVEN……
Just when I think I can’t possibly love this series more…Ms Reynolds does it again!
In a world where Vampires not only exist, but wield a formidable power, none is more awe-inspiring or fearsome than Raphael.
As the battle lines are drawn between the European fraction and the North American Vampire lords; stealth and deception become masterful tools.
So when a new enemy believes they have insinuated a minion in Raphael’s lair; the resulting confrontation leads Raphael south of the Mexican border to retrieve what is his.
However while his foe believes that loyalty and devotion will be Raphael’s downfall; this last betrayal will remain unforgiven.
A war is coming; but is anyone really prepared the force that is Raphael?
COMPELLED……
D.B.Reynolds has delivered another breathtaking story within this fast-paced, enthralling and passionate series; is it any wonder I can’t get enough.
Two impossibly powerful beings, each harbouring enough distrust and hatred to cause the tectonic plates to shift, are thrown together for a common goal; but will the love they share for exquisite Cyn, be enough to prevent them unleashing the soul deep violence they yearn to deliver.
Called upon to uphold the promise she made at the time of Raphael’s rescue in Hawaii, Cyn is sought out by Nick to help recover the elusive amber manacles. But no one separates Raphael from his mate, and while Nick may appear to be a handsome, quick witted human; as Cyn’s former lover and a disgusting necromancer, Raphael has no intention of allowing Cyn to be alone with this sorcerer while they attempt to locate the bewitched cuffs.
Subjected to two alpha males posturing and undermining each others reason for existence, Cyn attempts to mediate and not kill them both herself during their travels from state to state. But pushed to her limits, Cyn is compelled to seek the manacles current owner solo to escape the constant tension between her former lover and the Vampire mate she would die for in a heartbeat.
As with all the stories in this fabulous series, COMPELLED provides marvellous dialogue, exceptional world building and continues to exhibit the unquenchable passion between this captivating couple.
And just to keep the juices flowing and to whet your appetite for more, there is an exciting snippet at the end of the story to introduce some characters that will grace the pages of the coming spin-off series The Stone Warriors.

ALLEGIANCE . . . the ties that bind. Friendship, duty, blood.
TREACHERY . . . when friendship is abused, duty turns to burden, and blood is not enough.
UNFORGIVEN . . . because there are some things that can never be forgotten.
Allegiance . . . Treachery . . . Unforgiven.

I received a free ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest opinion.
If you are a fan of Cyn and Raphael then this will be quite the treat for you. Raphael is a very old Vampire, so he is very powerful. His mate Cyn, while human, is a kick butt kind of girl who is definitely her own person.
There are 4 novellas in this collection and they were all great. As Raphael wants peace across America there are those who want power to spread their evil and take the reins of power, Raphael's power. In one of the Novella's Cyn and Raphael are asked to repay a favor which they do but Raphael really wants no part of.
This is the first book of this series I have read. Even though it is 4 novellas from throughout the series timeline, I understood what was going on and the character motivations. I now want to read this series through and through. Raphael and Cyn have a very co-dependent relationship -- if you were to disregard Raphael's vampire status, they are such a believable couple that I could picture them in everyday life. Such a believable couple because their overall motivations and reactions are grounded in human experiences that any and all can relate to.
Betrayed: Vampires in America 5.5 War has come to the North American vampires, and Vampire Lords are reaching across territorial lines to strengthen allies and weaken enemies. The most powerful Lord of them all, Raphael, could change the course of the war and determine who raises the final banner of victory. But at what price? And will his mate, Cyn, be the one to pay it?
**Deet’s Thoughts: In BETRAYED The evolution of the impending vampire war is introduced. Cyn and Raphael have a few moments of mistrust and several very, very hot sex scenes that last longer than a few moments. No one writes hot and steamy better than D.B. Reynolds. No. One.
This is a genre bending series. Often billed as Paranormal Romance it is in my opinion more Urban Fantasy Romance and in more recent books in the series Erotic Romance. The vampires are scary and not sparkly, the women they fall in love with are strong and confident. The setting is contemporary and the vampires are known to humans.
Hunted: Vampires in America 6.5 The Lord of the Midwest is dead, and the powerful vampires of North America are gathering to choose his successor. The Vampire Council will be there to oversee the competition-each of them focused on keeping the violence to a bloody minimum, including Raphael, who will do whatever it takes to ensure the victor is a vampire he can trust. But someone is hunting, determined to stop Raphael and his mate, Cyn, from ever reaching Chicago.
Soon, the hunter may become...the hunted.
**Deet’sThoughts: As I've come to expect from this terrific author, the sex is positively sizzling, the storytelling is so accomplished that I could actually visualize the action scenes and feel the adrenaline rush. At this point my impression of Aden (A soon to be Vampire lord) is not a positive one. Perhaps we are not supposed to like him. This makes me doubly excited to read his story.
It is always a delight to have Raphael and Cyn in a book (originally introduced in the book RAPHAEL), these two are so much in love and they can't keep their hands off of each other. "I love you, my Cyn" he whispered against her lips, "Remember that." "I don't have to remember," she said fervently. "You'll always be here to tell me."
We also get a look at the relationship of Lucas and Katherine and the budding friendship of Katherine and Cyn. Can this novella be read as a stand-alone book? Yes, it is a story unto itself and I believe there is enough background to fill in any needed history. That said, you would be advised to read the series since it will give you a stronger feel for the characters.
Unforgiven: Vampires in America 7.5 War is imminent, and a spy has infiltrated Raphael's estate. But his target is not Raphael; it's his sister, Alexandra, whose earlier duplicity nearly cost Cyn her life. Raphael and Cyn are determined to play the spy's game, traveling to Mexico to discover who their enemy is and just how far he'll go to win. But once Raphael finds his sister, can he take the chance that she won't betray him again?
**Deet’s Thoughts: War is coming to the North American vampires. European Vampires are being crowded out of their territories and need to expand. Raphael is the vampire lord trying to keep the enemy at bay. At the same time there are those who would undermine him.
Yes, there are allusions to previous incidents in earlier books but this is still a standalone book. 86 pages of hot vampire action, smoldering tension, and sizzling sex. The relationship of human Cyn and vampire Raphael is always super sensuous and loving and this novella once again shows their union to be one of trust and respect. Security chief, Juro, is becoming more of a presence in the series. (I'm hoping he gets his own territory.) Second in command, Jared, remains an enigma to me and apparently Cyn has reservations about him, too.
From the beginning of this series the author has kept true to the world she has built around these vampires. Also from the first book, where Raphael and Cyn are introduced, we have watched their relationship grow stronger.
Compelled: Vampires in America 10.5 It was only a few months ago that Raphael lay helpless and dying, taken by treachery, while Cyn fought to save him.
**Deet’s Thoughts: Once again, in the fabulous Vampires In America series, we are treated to our favorite lovers, human Cyn and vampire Raphael. This time they have sorcerer Nick Katsaros calling in a promise to help him find the magical Amber Manacles. Can Cyn keep Raphael and Nick from causing each other bodily harm? The power of Raphael bounces off the page. The mysterious Nick is more subtle and his power seems more controlled than Raphael. But then Raphael is jealous of Cyn’s past with Nick. I personally can’t get enough of Cyn and her vampire but this deeper introduction to Nick is putting him on my book boyfriend radar. Who wouldn’t want an ancient, all powerful, handsome as sin sorcerer? Well, hells bells, this guy is certainly no Dumbldore. And since Cyn is already totally occupied by Raphael that leaves Nick up for grabs and I call dibs. I highly recommend this book and the entire Vampires In America series for all Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy and Thriller readers. Start at the beginning. You won't want to miss anything, and RAPHAEL (Book #1 in the Vampires In America Series) is currently only $2.51 on Amazon.
