She was a ghost, in heels.

She was there, then she wasn’t.

She would play with my emotions like a well-played guitar.

Then she would disappear. Making me want to strangle her.

Maybe she wasn’t a ghost, maybe she was the giver of sin. Because we sinned every time we touched, every time she was near.

Her lips were shaped like a heart, deceiving you at every word.

Her body was created straight from my fantasies, one I craved to bend to my will.

Her heart, well, who the hell knew. She kept that shit locked tight.

And I couldn’t find the key.

What an amazing book! It had so many of the elements that I look for in a book: drama, great dialogue, easy storyline, more drama, secrets, crazy drama, and STEAM! Kazier and Elina’s story is beautiful. It’s full of heartache, secrets, misunderstandings, steam, love and hate.

Kazier is the up and coming Russian mob boss. He’s cold. He’s ruthless. He’s terrifying. He’s just all alpha man who knows how to please a lady. He knew he wanted Elina and only Elina from the moment he first saw her. Elina is a total enigma, a beautiful woman and a walking dichotomy who makes him feel safe and threatened. She’s mysterious, rough and hot. She drives him crazy with her sexiness but she keeps disappearing like a ghost after brief encounters or amazing sex with him. One minute she’s there…the next she’s gone. Put them together and you have one hell of a relationship!

“Then it all became a game, but somewhere in between it all, this game of sin became a game of heart.”

Elina has a secret which may destroy what little they have with each other. Kazier finds himself falling for her beauty and that could be dangerous. When they are together lines blur and passions ignite, bringing them closer than they could ever imagine. Can they fight past their demons...or were they doomed by fate before they ever met.

This book has romance, flirts with sex, danger, mystery, revenge, gore and so much more. I liked the way the author developed the relationship between Kazier and Elina; step by step, nothing hurried, taking the time to describe the scenes. This is a gritty, intense love story that will leave you swooning the entire time you read it.

3.5 "These characters are nuts" stars!!

You already know that I am a cover ho. Do you see that guy??? Hello???

So... I think it was another case of it being just me. I think I built this book up way too much in my head. With all of the social media hype that I saw for this book (and participated in), when I got the ARC I was sure that the book would be phenomenal. Especially because reviews had already been posted. So I went in with some pretty high expectations. And then...

It pulled nothing from me. That's not to say it wasn't good. It's just that it didn't touch me. That's on me. However, there were many things that I did like, and I'm going to list them.

1. Kazier's name - I still don't know if I was pronouncing it right.
2. Kazier's obsession with Elina.
3. Kazier's entourage/soldiers/cousins - Anton was a jokester. Viktor was Mr. Serious. And Death... well he was just like what his name is. Deadly and absorbed by death. I liked their individual personalities and their loyalty.
4. Kazier's OCD with drawing blood or watching blood or touching blood. He was VERY descriptive.
5. The way the author wrote of the feuding between the Bratva and the mafia. I wanted more.

I think that was part of the problem. I kept wanting more and the more was out of reach. My biggest peeve about this story was the lack of true chemistry between the main characters. There was sex, but it wasn't sexy.

Can we say awkward??? It really threw me off. I also didn't care for the introduction of Freya. She was unnecessary. The story really would have been fine without her. It seemed like an obvious ploy to add even more drama. As I said... unnecessary. There was already enough killings and betrayals and drama to go around.

In conclusion...

Would I recommend the book? Yes. Please don't take my word for it.
Would I read from this author again? Most definitely.

An ARC was provided in exchange for my honest review

Distrust

Book Description

She was a ghost, in heels.

She was there, then she wasn’t.

She would play with my emotions like a well-played guitar.

Then she would disappear. Making me want to strangle her.

Maybe she wasn’t a ghost, maybe she was the giver of sin. Because we sinned every time we touched, every time she was near.

Her lips were shaped like a heart, deceiving you at every word.

Her body was created straight from my fantasies, one I craved to bend to my will.

Her heart, well, who the hell knew. She kept that shit locked tight.

And I couldn’t find the key.

Kazier is set to be the Russian Mafia boss. He hardly feels and killing is a sport to him, he enjoys the kill. As soon as his eyes landed on Elina he knew he had to have her, knew she would be his.

"I like the sound of blood, it’s a strange sensation. I like how it drips, each and every drop so magnificent in its own right. Each drop looking for a destination, like it hungers to go somewhere to survive, to live. The splatter of blood intrigues me the most, especially when a gun is involved. The blood basically runs, trespassing on anybody that comes too close. It touches the skin, clothes, wherever it can. Blood doesn’t discriminate. It will go to anywhere and touch anyone. When a knife is involved, it’s like a breathtaking waterfall. It doesn’t start off slow, it gushes, especially when a major artery like across the neck is involved—my favorite site."

Elina has a secret, a secret she couldn't possibly tell the one man she didn't realise she was faking for until it happened. Her secret is dangerous to him and everyone around him. She shouldn't be around him.

This story is about two families with huge grudges against each other. A man and a woman who fall in love with each other and would do absolutely anything to protect each other despite the war going on between their families. It shows that love prevails all in this book.

I disliked that we didn't find out more about Elina until after 50% in, everything about Kazier and her just pissed me off. I hated how he'd just drop everything and run to her after knowing little to nothing about her, it irked me so badly....Until I slowly started to like them both and understood everything Elina was going through and everything she was made to do.

All in all this was a great read by T.L. Smith, I love her work.

It wasn't a bad read but I didn't like the heroine. At all. I wanted Freya to be the heroine but when I think about it, I'm glad she's not because there's no way Kazier is good enough for her. I want to read her story now :)

3 Romeo and Juliet stars

It seems everyone is recycling the greats recently. Though Jane Austen seems to rule supreme, it was nice to see a Shakespeare reboot.

The only reason this wasn't a 4 star read for me was the lack of h's POV. We don't get hers until after the 50% mark. They have almost no "present time" on page interaction until after 70%. There's just not enough page time with the h to decide how I feel about her as a character. The OW fiancé has about the same amount of on page with the H as the h...(the OW is a forced engagement and he's never sexual with her. The H/h are exclusive during their 2 year affair.)

It also dragged a bit but the writing, plot, and the H kept me engaged until the end. This has some brutal moments, but nothing as gruesome as the next in the series.

I know this doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement, but the book is a must for anyone who reads Bratva novels or prefers H driven novels...this is more his story than a "couple's" story. I liked his determination with pursuing the h, but as the head of the Bratva...I find it unbelievable that he couldn't have discovered the h's identity in 2 years. But I didn't care in the end cuz the H was enough for me ;)

SG Ladies...safe for you :)

This was a pretty good read. Kazier is the son of a Russian mob he is also a politician. Elina, is the granddaughter of a rival Italian family they have been engaging in a love affair for two years. For Kazier it was just at first sight when he first sees her in a club. When his father tells him that he is marrying another he can't stop thinking about her. This was my first time reading this author. This book drew me in and I loved it. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to the the next book in this series.

I'd just like to put the fact that I'm a mafia whore out there. Just saying.

So when I got an ARC of Distrust I about peed in excitement because this author has a reputation of writing amazeball stories.

And she did NOT disappoint. It was refreshing to read a mafia book that was in depth and in which you could tell that research was done and time was taken to write the pages. I would most definitely recommend it to fans of Ashleigh Zavarellis' mafia series - I've read her book Ghost and it was incredible.

I love TL's writing style. How unique it is. It flows so well and the world she created was so vivid it felt like I was transported into some underground criminal realm. I loved it.

And that cover? Don't even get me started. My muff loves it. It's beautiful. That is all.

If you love mafia books or books with a great, dangerous, criminal kinda storyline then I strongly recommend Distrust. I can't wait for book 2. It can't come soon enough.

What first pulled me into this book was the cover. I mean come on have you seen this guy??? He is so fine. He grabbed my attention so easily.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it was pretty interesting. The blurb doesn't give you much to work with so I was pretty much going in blind.

Kazier is the head of the Smirnov Bratva. Dangerous and crazy is what this guy is but I loved it and I thought it was extremely sexy. Kazier is obsessed with Elina. This mysterious blonde bombshell he saw one night at his club. He's been fucking her for two years ever since that night. Stolen moments in cars and dark alley ways is all they get together befor she is off again without so much of as a goodbye. She is the only one who can make him jump when she says "Jump" so basically she has him by the balls. Elina always seemed to be able to tempt him with her short dresses and sexy smile.

I couldn't really like Elina because I just didn't know her. In the beginning I just thought Elina was a bitch who liked to play with Kazier's heart. I couldn't get to know her until the last 20%. Elina didn't give any emotion away so it was pretty hard to get to know her.
When I did finally know who she was and what her motives were, I thought she was really sweet and was just stuck in a bad situation. Because I didn't know her that well I didn't really care about her relationship with Kazier, it didn't seem to me like she cared enough about the relationship like he did.

Kazier is set to marry Freya. Their marriage has been arranged for years now but he loves another. I loved Freya, she was a cool chick and wasn't down with being disrespected!! Which I loved. I wanted her to be my friend so she could teach me how to use a knife. I really wanted her and Kazier to get together but I think she would better suit another.

I liked all the secondary characters in this story, they were very funny and entertaining. Death and Pollie are next in this series and I am looking forward to it, very much.

You know those authors who when you pick up one of their books to read you just know that you are going to be in for a suspense filled, white knuckles, stomach knotting ride? Well for me T.L. Smith is an author whose books do this to me every single time, and Distrust did exactly that. I couldn’t breathe at times because I wasn’t sure if I could handle what would happen next. The angst, the suspense, the action, the sex, the danger, the mafia elements that I personally love, the throw your kindles and rush to pick it up to continue reading moments, Distrust has all of that and more.

Elina and Kazier, the chemistry between these two is explosive. The passion between these two is indescribable, and add to it that Elina drives Kazier insane when she constantly disappears just adds to it all. Remember those kindle throwing moments I mentioned before, well you will definitely have those with these two.

I am still thinking about Distrust days later, I can’t wait to be able to dive into more books of this series because once again T.L. Smith has me addicted and I need my next fix.

Another brilliant read from TL Smith

T.L Smith has once again delivered an on the edge, gripping and riveting read in Distrust, with fascinating, intriguing and interesting characters and a plot that had me captivated to the end I was left hungry for more and can't wait for the next book in this series.

Never a dull page, action packed, hot with angst, danger, drama, just brilliant.

Kaiser, Alpha with an A, hot, demanding powerful, feared, a mafia boss he's a man on a mission, a man with an obsession with one goal in mind, Elina.

Elina is an enigma a woman who appears, stays the night in Kaisers bed and in the morning she is gone, like a ghost.

For two years Elina has breezed in and out of kaisers bed and overtime has become kaisers Kryptonite .

Elina is a mystery and for most of the book remains one but with all the mafia dealings, danger, angst, bloodshed I was not only gripped but loving all the other characters and what was unfolding in each chapter regarding them as well.

Distrust is like a Romeo and Juliette in the Mafia arena but gives so much more and I am so looking forward to more in this series.

You know I always get excited when TL announces she's writing a new book as I know she is going to deliver one hell of a bloody good one. And 'Distrust'....fuck is it good.

Cold and ruthless. He wouldn't bat an eyelid when asked to kill...except when it comes to her.....

"In a world full of color there needs to be dark because Darkness is the best place to be."

Secretive and elusive. She comes when least expected and is gone by morning. A ghost...and his Achilles heel....

"I hated her with a passion. I craved her like a fire licking its flames. I wanted the need to burn out. We weren't destined. I knew this. Except I wanted whatever she would give me, even if I had to take it."

But what happens when secrets are found out?
What happens when your family dictates what is to be?

TL has once again blown me away with her ability to pull me away from reality and into the dark and fucked up world that her characters live in. A world full of corruption, torture and dangerous, hot men. I world that I absolutely love.

I was hooked from page one and was left reeling at the end with my mouth hanging open.

There is sooooo much I want to know. What I NEED to know and I'm feeling a little lost now that I finished.
I am really hoping that a certain person's book is next. I'm intrigued and fascinated by this character and I can't wait to get into his mind.

You better get writing, T. I'm going to be stalking you and bugging you until I get this next book.

The first time I tried something from this author I DNF'd almost immediately, but I'm so glad I gave this a chance, I think her writing has evolved a lot since Krinos.
What I loved about Distrust is that it stayed true to the characters, but most of all, that I could finally read a trope I've been waiting on for years (and only found in one other book): where the heroine is the mistery and the hero is the doormat (only when it comes to her, though) who can never say no to her. It was incredibly refreshing to see some role reversal - that's not to say that the hero wasn't great, though. He was an interesting and strong character, only a doormat when it came to her-which I adored:)
My only complaints would be personal pet peeves and the fact that there's too much focus on the secondary characters and setting them up for their books. It annoys me because it feels like an ad for future books. And books are the last places where I want to see ads. Not to mention, it makes me care less about the actual characters I'm reading about, either because it annoys me, or because I become more interested in the other couple that would be in a future book. I'm not saying there shouldn't be any teasers, just..more subtly done, I guess. Only a few sentences here and there to pique your curiosity and only if it actually has any bearing on the action that's happening.

SINOPSIS

ELLA ERA UN FANTASMA, EN TACONES.
Estaba allí, luego no estaba.

This is my first book by this amazing author and let me tell you, I could not put it down once I started reading it today. TL has a way with words that just made this story flow. What a rollercoaster of a ride. I loved all the characters in this book, even Death. He is a different kind of crazy in itself. I love Mafia books so this was a no brainer. I would definitely recommend this book. I can't wait to read the next book.

Every time we see TL Smith with a new release coming we get giddy. Her covers are to die for and her synopsis' are always intriguing and leave us wanting more. Distrust is the first book in the Smirnov Bratva series and we cannot wait for more!

We love the way TL starts her books her prologues always reel us in. The suspense, angst, chemistry, raw and grittiness is intoxicating! The buildup of suspense makes our heart race leaving us on edge with Kristy dying for a spoiler, we are left frozen in place tuning everything else out around waiting for that moment she reaches in a grips you.

Distrust was all that and more.

In a dark cold and ruthless world where family dictates your life, Kaizer has one glimmer of colour that floats undetected in and out of his life like a ghost. His family dictates his life and it's time to step up but when his ghost reveals herself, secrets, betrayal and corruption surface. What is a dark, cold ruthless man to do?

Elian was his ghost, never staying long enough, but just enough to tempt him when it came to her. The power a woman holds over a man is a formidable one. Betrothed to another woman from a powerful family, and loving another Kaizer must make a decision. But when things start coming to life and Kaizer must choose family or her, his decisions will affect everyone around him. The side characters hold so much power in this story, we can’t wait what more comes to light. Although this review is a little less informative than normal for us, we really can’t give too much away, you will need to take this torturous trip yourself.

Kristy -Too many thoughts and feelings all at once, to many things I want to say but can't!!!!! This book is amazing I love how TL always pulls me in and keeps me spellbound not wanting to move until I have read every last word. TL continually blows me away with the suspense, you never know what or how gritty she is going to go and when you think you've read it all, think again! I love her alpha males, they are dark and twisted and her kick ass heroines always speak their mind and don't back down! I love the way TL makes you fall for her main alpha while giving you more of the secondary characters leaving you intrigued by them. Bring on Deaths book!

Kayla - Like every book from the dark and twisted T.L. we knew this one would blow everyone away just the same. I have read several comments and reviews where people have stated they don’t know how T.L. will top her previous books, and let me tell you, she manages to do it every time. The research, depth and character development that T.L. goes through is nothing short of amazing. She continues to leave us with twists around every corner and dare we say, a few cliff hangers that are sure to keep us wanting more every time. With Death’s book next, I can’t wait to see where we go from here.

I dont now why it is that I EVER underestimate this lady. She puts a form of art out that not many people can accomplish. She is rough, dirty and so effin sexy. (her writing that is) She stops my heart at times and speeds it right back up. I can not believe the feelings that her books invoke. Amazing...

Ok so pretty much you have Kazier and he is a mob boss's son that will then become the boss if everything pans out. He is rough around the edges and only soft heart ONLY for one woman but rough in every other way with her. It's hot and sexy but oh so naughty. But he has a marriage already prearranged for him so what will he do?

Then there is Elina and she is the only one that will ever turn Kaizers head. She has secrets and a past that she hopes won't rear it's ugly head but we all know that doesn't stay at bay for long. Hearing about her true loves arranged marriage she is left not knowing where she will end up.

If you enjoy the mob, organized crime, hot alpha men and sexy woman with those alphas you soooooo need to read this book. I am so excited for the others to come out!!!

Holy Hell TL Smith you are a total Bad Arse...

Distrust is the story of a very Dark Russian Mafia Family, Smirnov Bratva to be exact. And let's just say there is a War between this family and one other that will take no prisoners!!

Now Kazier who is the unofficial head of this Mafia Clan (although his Father believes he still decides the rules) is a very very dark man with a thirst for just one woman Elina, the woman that evades him whenever she feels the need, what is her secret, why is she playing this game of cat and mouse and does she even know who she is dealing with??

There were elements throughout this book that may not be for everyone having said that, I loved it all the same, I was not an Elina Fan to be honest, but god damn by the end I had changed my tune!! I am so ready for Death he surprised me by the end of this book, but I'm intrigued to get a glimpse of what makes him tic, but at the same time I'm extremely scared for what's to come!!

Congrats TL on another Dark, Crazy Beautiful Read.

WOW! What did I just read?

FAN-FRAKING-TASTIC!

This beautifully twisted and consuming masterpiece will chew you up and spit you out. The plot had so many puzzle pieces that kept me on edge. I devoured this book in one sitting. I could not put it down. Nothing about this story was predictable. TL Smith is an author who can seriously write and this 5 STAR masterpiece proves she a pure genius. Distrust had the perfect balance between romance, drama, and suspense.

Kazier is a Russian Mafia boss. His character I believe fit the cover so well. Hot....Tattoos. Yup, I pictured Marshall in my head while reading all those hot steamy scenes, and Elina's character couldn't have been written any better.

My only complaint is the CLIFFHANGER! I usually don't mind those but OMG! I need the 2nd book ASAP! I will definitely be raving about this book as I do her others to all my reader friends.

“I wanted her the minute I saw her and I think I will for the rest of my life”

Not a lot of books got me feeling of "I'm not sure"
I know when I don't enjoy a book, or feel 50/50 about it or I thoroughly enjoy it.
But this one, I'm really not sure.
There was a lack of chemistry and relationship plotline I feel like between the two characters.
They just love and hate each other so much with a passion.

Over time you get quite annoyed with the repetition of things.
Some of the side characters were unnecessary and felt like they were there just so the main characters could be like a "hero" or "the best one"
I don't know man, I'm not sure.

THIS INCREDIBLE BOOK completely stole my heart and had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to VERY end. This isn't your average Mafia book... it's more... it's pure sin!!!!

I found myself absolutely captivated by the storyline and the character's! (I call dibs on Kazier Smirnov) Not only does T.L. Smith deliver a truly gut-wrenching, heart-pounding, give-me-more read she brings the reader into this world that she has so beautifully created.

I highly recommend this book to everyone who is looking for a dark Mafia read.

I for one cannot wait for book 2..

Unfortunately for me it took a lot to give this book a 2, I agonised over this decision as I love TL smith, but honesty is the best policy.

I couldn't connect with the characters, I found nothing I could emotionally connect with, and to be truthful there was a great basis for a great story but it fell a little flat and rushed for me.

It needed more time and depth spent on it. There was so much it could have been, but it left me feeling a little empty.

PS, I freaking hate Freya.

My only complaint about Distrust is the end. I don't like HFN it's like unfinished story for me (author says the couple will reapers in the next book but for me is not the same). The writing is strange, raw,but in the same time you will not stop reading until last page.
