Emotional Intelligence: Mastery - A Practical Guide To Improving Your EQ

Rate this book
Become Emotionally Smarter with a Practical Approach! Emotional intelligence has been a buzzword in the personal growth industry and in high-level corporate recruitment strategies since 1995, when Daniel Goleman used the term for his book title and topic. As we would say today, his use of it “went viral” immediately, in the world of business and mental health in particular. Often abbreviated as “EQ”, emotional intelligence is the personal ability you have to recognize and label your own emotions and feelings, and to use this information to steer your thinking and behavior in the desired direction. Whether you are looking to climb the career ladder with ease, thrive during social events or simply feel more at peace with yourself, a well-developed EQ is absolutely critical. During the course of this book we will take a brief look at the current knowledge surrounding the subject, before exploring how you can vastly improve your own emotional intelligence with a series of simple, practical exercises. You will learn - How to observe and analyze your emotions at any given moment. - How to connect more easily with people and build strong and lasting relationships. - How your body reacts to your various emotional states. - How to release unwanted and potentially destructive emotions. - “Thought traps” and how to deal with them. - Mindfulness and its role in developing EQ. - How to improve your EQ in everyday environments. - How having a higher emotional intelligence will benefit your life. And more! Download now, and start improving your EQ today!

A quick practical guide indeed. Having emotional intelligence is today's society is very much needed. I would recommend this guide to others that are not to in touch with their feelings and need a little extra guidance. Chapter 5 really spoke to me on self-awareness and there were good resources provided at the end of the guide.

I enjoyed the exercises they recommend to help you with your EQ but there wasn’t as much information as I would have liked.

Aha!

I really found this helpful. I generally consider myself to be a very compassionate person. I shy away from conflict and try to please others . This book made me realize that I am giving up so much energy to overthinking that I rarely accomplish what I set out to do. I have allowed fear to come in and take over in many situations. I feel better equipped to address the negative feelings that arise and turn my focus to a more in control and positive mindset. I would recommend this book to anyone who truly wants to connect with others, and just as importantly, themselves. Society has become so disjointed and divided. It should be a priority for all of us to become more emotionally intelligent.

Emotional intelligence is an important life skill, but I felt this author over-simplified it and also made it seem like a cure-all. Yes, I do think emotional intelligence and learning how to identify the emotions in yourself and others are key to thriving in the workplace and creating a supportive environment for my team. No, I don't think mastering it is going to cure my depression, thanks very much.

This book highlights some key exercises to do to improve your emotional EQ. I found this book informative. Some of the exercises that are included are mindfulness in your own thinking, observing, active listening, and becoming aware of what your dominant thinking pattern actually is.
I particularly enjoyed the chapter on negative thinking. How often do you allow your thought pattern to flow in this direction, how is your negative thinking affecting others, and is it affecting your current interpersonal relationships and why?

A book that aids in self analysis and is a great quick read for any business owner or leader to help them excel in their EQ.

Quote: "An emotionally aware individual doesn't rationalize or make excuses for his or her feelings. They do something about them! Aware individuals have observed the power of a single negative feeling to turn people away from them. Aware individuals understand the power of a single expressed negative emotion to cancel the business deal, to cancel personal dates with friends, to turn a new friendship or partnership permanently sour. Such emotionally intelligent, aware individuals have understood the power in being able to recognize and release such negative feelings, reactions, words and behaviors."

Great advice. This book will help you become more aware of the need for empathy and positivity in your daily interactions.

This wasn't a very long read at all, like I thought it would be. And to be honest, I believe that while Eric Jordan gives a good foundation, and some tools to use in order to understand your own emotional state and triggers, it didn't really seem to go much beyond a beginning, falling short of mastery.

There is also the matter of Eastern religious practice that I find to be troublesome, but he gives high praise to. He doesn't touch on what makes the practices good, or go into the specifics of even what they entail.

That isn't to say there isn't good stuff to be gleaned, but it just scratches the surface.

Abbreviates the best of it.

Looking for the compressed version of the original book, which highlights some of the key concepts of achieving a high EQ? Here it is! What this book will do is give you the starting tools and psychological grounding to begin to make changes to your emotional behaviours, in order for your management of interactions, crisis, leadership etc, be so much better! Have a read and you might end up buying the famous version. Bravo for the easy and interactive read.

This book helps you to identify and evaluate your own emotions, triggers and reactions. In identifying them, through exercises, you are able to understand and control your own actions rather than reacting to triggers in different situations. Once you are able to do this for yourself, you are more readily able to understand others and work better with them, whether in family, business or frendships.

You can cut out the "drama" and conflict by better understanding yourself and those around you.

I’m not really the target audience of this book, but I still want to say my piece about it. The concept is sound, and the plethora of other EQ literature can confirm that, but the presentation here is repetitive and clearly intended for the workaholic business executive who has trouble abandoning their ego and recognizing that other people do in fact exist. The tone directed towards this audience bothered me.

A very good read with simple exercises to do

The topics and exercises were very useful. This is a book to read over and over again with the exercises. I truly can see an improvement in myself after taking the exercises and learning about my emotions, how I react to my feelings, how others react to my feelings and how I react to others’ feelings. I intend to read this book and do the exercises over and over again.

"Determination. Awareness. Attention." These are the essentials to emotional intelligence mastery.

This book is a simple form to learning about emotional intelligence with easy practical steps to improve it.

It doesn't have in-depth study, or many different examples or experiences so if you're looking for a quick overview with practical exercises, then this will do. I'm currently practicing one exercise and it's helpful.

Good practical over view

Having read quite a few books on emotional intelligence , i was getting tired of a list based approach to addressing the subject. This book brought it together in a coherent flow. It touches sufficiently in the 'HOW' , and importantly dwells deeply on why cultivating a Rich E I state will lead to fulfillment and success. Highly recommended

An easy guidebook to understand EQ overall and steps to improve EQ: We may not able to choose what emotions to feel, but we can decide what to do with them by paying attention to what happens around us, observing without judgment, emotional analysis, practice mindfulness.

I really like the part about mindfulness and the steps to follow, and practice it in daily life basic.

Good read

For someone who is starting to be more self aware, and finding the inspiration and drive within myself, this book gave perspective which maybe I already subconsciously knew, but hadn't thought about. It was an easy read, and was informative.

A very short read, with some interesting points.
Good as a simple introduction to the topic, basically self-awareness or 'emotionally intelligence mindfulness.'
