A great little guide to walking in the Calderdale area. There are 25 walks in total, between 5½ & 6½ miles (with one 7 miler).

This gem of a book became very useful when Covid struck and I could no longer go walking in the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales, my usual haunts. I live in Calderdale but haven’t properly explored the area. And when I did - with the help of this book - it made me realise what a beautiful place it is. Maybe not as spectacular as the Lakes and the Dales, but “modestly magnificent” to quote Calderdale Council’s slogan.

I enjoyed each and every one of the walks in here. My only criticism is that I felt the written descriptions for some of the walks were too short. I sometimes didn’t know where I was as the text didn’t seem to match what I was looking at. A fuller description of the route would have been more helpful.
