After the debacle at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, Atticus is glad to get back to his quiet, simple life. Months after the murder case though, Scout decides his brother could use a holiday. He books spots for him, his brother, and their friend, Freddy, at an archaeological dig near the Lake District. What starts out as an educational holiday, though, quickly turns into another investigation when one of the dig team goes missing. In the newest book about Atticus McLaren; autistic museum tech turned amateur detective, winter has come to Britain, along with relentless rain. Will the three of them solve the mystery or will they be impeded by the weather, being cooped up with a dangerous criminal, and by their own demons?
I am an author, scriptwriter, and filmmaker. I've recently started my own publishing and production company called Divergence Productions. 2017 was an exciting and crazy year, and I hope things only get better from here. I write mainly mystery and fantasy novels, which usually focus on LGBT or neurodivergent characters. The Atticus McLaren Mysteries is my baby, and the company is currently working on turning it into a television series.
Atticus, Scout, and Freddy are off at an archaeological dig in the Lake Distract, but their project becomes sidetracked by bad weather. While they and their colleagues are taking shelter in a house, there is a murder, followed by a serious of disappearances and harrowing chases. Atticus, Freddy, and Scout team up to discover the culprits behind the crime.
Atticus is a very compelling character, as is his brother Scout. I'm not sure the mystery worked as well in this installment as it did in the first story, and I would have liked more of a resolution to the case before the Christmas celebration at the end. Still, it was a pleasant read.
This was a bit of a strange story, Atticus is a bit neurotic and the other characters were not far behind. Set in an archaeological dig, I never would have guessed the culprit in this murder who done it. A short story, easy read.
