The worst appears to be behind them. But between heavy casualties and the deep-seeded betrayal they’ve suffered, the remaining members of the Intercalary may never fully recover. For those that remain, it is a time to bury their dead, figuratively speaking. For those still standing, their suffering seems to be at an end. It is a time to lick their wounds and prepare to carry on as they are able - but can they?
Will they be allowed to? Or is this just the quiet before the real storm begins?
This is the eighth installment in a 12-part serial thriller. Find the first installment
Andy Lockwood is a writer, an artist, and above all: a dreamer. He got his start in screenwriting and filmmaking where he discovered his obsessive love of storytelling. He is the author of two novels, Empty Hallways and House of Thirteen; a 12-part serial thriller, At Calendar’s End; and is a regular contributor to horror anthologies. He is always working on another piece of writing, whether it is a novel, a story, or something else entirely. When not slaving away at the keyboard, he spends his time buying books he does not have time to read, and delving into mediums he has no time to fully explore, but he dabbles in them anyway. He lives in mid-Michigan with his amazingly talented and entirely-too-supportive wife, their delightfully boisterous daughter, a brood of cats, and a misguided idea of what it means to be an adult.
This installment of the series lacked the darkness of July but kept up the suspense. For one thing, as the executioner continues to take their lives. I like how reflective Augustus (August) is. He thinks to when he could have revealed his feelings for Marc and didn't. I think Autumn does have the reflective feel to it. The leaves brown and it starts to get colder. You think back to happier times of the summer like he did. But the mystery unfolds and you're still not sure where this is going.
This one made me sad! So in the eighth book, the Intercalary is still trying to figure out how to take down Tris and are mourning their depleted numbers. They also are facing their imminent end and have to come to terms. Ember continues to develop her powers and discovers she can turn back time...which begs the question if she should use it to prevent Tris coming back or her banishment...only for dearest Augustus to be the voice of reason.
Oh, and there's this freaky scene with Augustus and Tris.
The end is coming and the series is still shaping to be a good mystery with a decent spook factor.
