“I know you are the one. The valley awoke when you arrived, and you were shown things, special things… there’s a connection, a link, between us. I know you are the one I’ve been waiting for.”

On a family visit to the Derwent Valley in Derbyshire, Eleanor's world changes forever. Her senses assaulted by countless explosions, she experiences the horror of a battlefield; standing high on the valley side, she sees the village from nearly a century before it was drowned by the waters of the lake.

Who is the ghost-like figure she sees amongst the trees? And the old woman who gives her the ancient diary?

What is the connection that binds Eleanor, a child of the 21st century and Cam, a soldier from the First World War?

Across decades of time, Eleanor and Cam find their lives intertwined in a quest to unlock the events of the past.

Set at the turn of the new century and in a time before that, Silent Valley is a story about love and endings, survival and the horror of war.

This is a time slip adventure intended for teenagers or young adults. The story is set in the battlefields of France, in Sheffield, and in the Upper Derwent Valley both before and after the creation of Ladybower Reservoir, serving the East Midlands and Sheffield. It is a touching story of two teenage lads who fought in the first world war and their interaction with a young girl from the present time. I enjoyed it, at least in part because I know most of the localities where the story is set quite well.

The author has taken some liberties with the historical facts, as he explains at the end of the book: Ladybower was actually created during the second world war, not the first.

Unfortunately, the kindle version of the book has not been proof read adequately - in at least two places a main character has been referred to by the name of one of the other main characters, and there are several irritating typos.
