People are getting up, putting coats on, passing our table with an indulgent glance and smile: two elderly friends lunching, having a chat about old times. She saw street, cars, people, all much the same as half an hour ago but somehow vaguely unreliable. She felt, oddly, older. A slightly different person, who knew more. Who knew how to make adjustments. Maybe not Hotel and Catering, she thought. I may not be a Hotel and Catering person. I don't know who I am yet, do I? Who I may be.
