Camp Firefly Falls #4

Skinny Dipping Dare

Rate this book
Book 4 in the Camp Firefly Falls series!

Navy SEAL Wyatt Henderson had signed up for a guys-only week of fishing and hiking and beer at his buddy’s favourite camp in the Berkshires. Nobody said anything about campfire songs and kitchen duty and crafts at noon. Retro Throwback Week at Camp Firefly Falls is almost enough to drive him around the bend, and that’s before the beautiful hippie in the girls’ cabin next door decides he’s no fun.

Tegan Bennett can’t stand the insufferable, grumpy, gorgeous military man who wakes up every morning at dawn and takes up far too much space in her general vicinity. So when he throws down a dare, she takes it—and lobs him one of his own. It’s on like Donkey Kong. Camp rules? Out the window. Along with her bikini top.

Is one week at summer camp enough to turn his frown upside down and tame her wild spirit? A lighthearted, sexy, opposites attract romp complete with a midnight dining hall ice cream raid.

The Camp Firefly Falls series seeks to recreate the best parts of summer camp – late night cabin mate chats, campfires, smores, and friendly competitions while definitely upgrading to a more adult experience with some sexy romances too. The series is written by different authors and all the stories will be released over the summer of 2016, centered around Camp Firefly Falls. It’s run by a couple who get their own happy ending in book one of the series, Winning Back His Wife (a second chance romance). Some of the stories involve adults returning to the camp of their childhood for some rest and relaxation, while others are newcomers. It’s a lighthearted and fun series of standalone romances with low angst, and sure to delight readers looking for some summer fun.

Skinny Dipping Dare is book 4 in the series written by Zoe York and features returning camper Tegan, now a grown up woman. She’s at a bit of a crossroads in her life, and a week camping with her girlfriends at a place that meant so much to her as a youngster is just what she needs to sort things out. What she definitely doesn’t need is the grumpy guy in cabin 9! Wyatt anticipated some real downtime with his buds – a week of fishing and beer and lazing around, while on leave from his military duties. His next assignment will come soon enough and he needs this time to regroup. The hippie chick in cabin 8, egging him on to be a little more sociable and competitive is irritating but if he can handle insurgents, he can surely handle her. But that handling might just backfire when the sparks between them ignite into a super sexy vacation affair. Time is short and precious – to go from enemies to lovers and friends in a short week is a tall order, with no guarantees about the future. Are they brave enough to see where things might lead when their week comes to a close?

As promised, this story delivers in the fun and sexy department. I’m all for a grumpy hero, and Wyatt definitely has that going for him, at least at the beginning. To his credit, he doesn’t hold grudges and he soon follows up his sometimes rude behavior with appropriate apologies and a more balanced frame of mind. Plus, underneath all that hard and handsome exterior is a bit of softy that was just looking for someone to play with. Tegan is a bright and energetic woman who can’t resist a dare, and making Wyatt come out of his shell is definitely one she is up for. But once they get their hands on each other – well look out! They share some steamy scenes and Wyatt turns out to be a very caring and affectionate man, even as he worries about how his feelings for Tegan get so deep, so fast. There are definitely some ups and downs to their relationship as they sort through which feelings are real and which are brought on by the knowledge that they’ll soon be off to separate parts of the country. But rest assured, there is a happy ending and a lovely epilogue that makes it clear they belong together. I enjoyed all the camp scenes, the camaraderie all the guys and girls share with their cabin mates and with each other. A story like this might just make you nostalgic for you own summer camp days or wish you’d had the chance to experience it. Definitely worth the read!

Zoe York is one of my go-to authors for feel-good, realistic romances. I’ve read most of her Pine Harbour series, several in her Wardham series, and there wasn’t a single one I didn’t really like. So I was looking forward to Skinny Dipping Dare.

But it didn’t take me long to confirm what I’ve suspected to be the case with books written by different authors for a series - such is the case with Camp Firefly Falls (which, incidentally, is on, like, book 21) - and that is that these kinds of series, which are interconnected but not interrelated, put authors in a box and aren’t conducive to the authors producing their best work.

Wyatt and Tegan meet at Camp Firefly Falls. He’s there with some of his SEAL buddies, and is expecting a week of rest and relaxation. Tegan is also at camp with three of her friends, and it’s a nostalgic week for her since she used to attend the camp growing up. Both are at a crossroads in their life and aren’t sure where a relationship could fit in - especially since they live on opposite coasts.

This story is your typical opposites attract/enemies-to-lovers story, only without much plot development. It’s a quick story, the majority of which takes place over the week they are at camp. And while it wasn’t terrible, it didn’t much work for me. The camp antics, which could have been funny, didn’t add enough humor to the story, and there wasn’t enough time to form enough of a story to be heartfelt or compelling. The maority of the character development was revealed through internal monologue.

What I did like was that both the hero and heroine took a year to follow their plans, but stayed in touch. When they parted at the end of camp week, it was with the intention of getting themselves into a place where they could have a healthy relationship and be together, full-time, in the future.

It actually took me several times to read this book. I’d read a couple chapters, go read a couple other books, come back to this one, repeat. It was a bit of a disappointment since all the other books I’ve read by Zoe York have held my interest. I’ve got another book in the Camp Firefly Falls series by Ms. York that I’m going to give a try (about Tegan’s mother and Wyatt’s mentor), but I’m keeping my expectations low. Hopefully it won’t disappoint. But even if it does, I’ll still read Zoe York, because everything else I’ve read by her has been delightful!

Opposites-attract dynamic, a few dares at the camp, fun, sexy, and heartwarming with plenty of romantic tension. It’s a delightful read if you like modern romance with a touch of humor and heat.

Grumpy and sunshine are wonderful together! These two completely acted like campers crushing on each other, but with the added bonus they are adults and get to be x-rated. Of course, camp only lasts a short time, but that it is all it takes from them to figure out they were meant to be together 😊

Good but seems like two different books

I like this book for the most part, but it seemed like reading two different stories. The hero and heroine see the physical attractiveness of one another from the beginning, but also seem to to have an instant dislike and have an antagonistic relationship until suddenly they just don't anymore. The change is sudden and complete, enough to have romance whiplash. I know it all takes place in a week, but the change is just too jarring.

Expecting a guys weekend fishing and drinking beer, Navy SEAL Wyatt Henderson is less than impressed when he ends up at Camp Firefly Falls, where previous campers (now adults) are reliving their childhood at camp. He especially dislikes his perky cabin neighbor Tegan Bennett -- until the sparks start to fly between them.

This is a fun romance, with interesting characters. It's different from the typical Navy SEAL romance, since there's no romantic suspense. It's mostly a light, fun romance, which is good. It would be a good beach read -- fluffy but ultimately forgettable.

This book has it all. We have a book with a lot of emotions, everything from comedy, to frustration, to happiness and love. We have the wonderful background of the Berkshires. We have the gorgeous, if grumpy SEAL, well actually three, but I am talking about one in particular, Wyatt Henderson. We have the beautiful Tegan Bennett, who is now at loose ends thanks to losing her job.
Wyatt came to camp expecting a relaxing “guys only” weekend, with fishing, hiking and drinking beer with his SEAL buddies. However, what he got, was Tegan, the “hippy” in the cabin next door. Tegan had signed up and paid for this weekend with her friends before she lost her job. She has some decisions to make, and the grumpy “G I Joe” next door is not going to ruin her week.
I loved all of the characters is this book, especially Wyatt and Tegan. Watching the sparks fly whenever they were together…wow. I loved watching them build their relationship. I loved all of the emotional turmoil that the phenomenal Zoe York put me thru in this book. I laughed a lot at the things that Tegan did to irritate Wyatt. I think my favorite part was the first dare, and the s’more, or maybe the unicorn. Hmmm, can’t decide.
I love this series, each and every book that I have read by all of the authors have been phenomenal. If you love quirky romance, you will love this series as much as I am. I was gifted with a copy of this phenomenal book for my thoughts on it. Kudos Ms. York on another win!
Thank you for reading my review. If you have not started this series yet, the first book Winning Back His Wife by Gwen Hayes and Zoe York is currently free on some sites, get it while you have the chance.

Man! I want to go to camp! Zoe York's description of camp has truly brought Camp Firefly Falls to life. I felt like I was there in the dining room while Tegan and Wyatt were sparring, in the lake during the swim test where Tegan made sure she became team captain so Wyatt would have to be on her team, or peeking out of Tegan's cabin window watching Wyatt doing his morning workout. I loved the playfulness of their relationship. The dares they issued and sneaking into the kitchen one night for ice cream. And of course, the desire they felt for each other and had no problem acting on. The chemistry was through the roof. I think Tegan and Wyatt may just be my favorite camp couple so far!

I started to like the story at 60%(ish) and then I wanted more... More about the future, guess I will need to read the next books but I am not sure I will do it... At first these books are so slow for me...
I loved Wyatt, of that I am 100% sure! <3

These are actually a really clever marketing thing. Zoe York and Gwen Hayes wrote book 1, set up the place Firefly falls, and the two mc’s who own it, then wrote a couple more shorts expanding on this world, then they got other people to write the characters from *their* series into a trip to the camp. It’s genius. It introduces new writers to readers of all the other authors, if they read some or all of the series it expands their world, and it allows readers to discover new series from other writers. Genius, I tell you.
Each story is a standalone but set in the camp world; isolated, internet free, casual etc. It ticks the nostalgia box, too. Genius…
So, this one is a navy SEAL Wyatt Henderson, who is grumpy and unsocial and has been talked into staying at camp with two buddies. This camp is for alumni; people who stayed there when they were little.
Tegan Bennett was a camp kid; she loved it, and back here she’s let loose her inner eleven year old loose on a snarky, dare rampage. She also comes with two friends. She’s at the end of her tether having lost her job and she’s got no clue where she will be in a few weeks time, let alone a year.
And Wyatt just grates on her for some reason.
He calls her vegan girl and she calls him GI Joe.
Daaaw.
Until they both get that something way, way deeper and scary is happening.
They’re falling in love.
***
She tugged him closer and his free hand found her hip. Yes. He held her against him as his lips quested ruthlessly. This was a kiss that might never end, she thought dimly. Good. If it never ended, they’d never have to talk about how it might be a bad idea.(p. 75).

Sighs…
Camp leader makes them do the washing up together after they fight in the dining room… which works perfectly, because now Wyatt knows how to break into the kitchen, so they can make out, and later he steals cupcakes for her.
Getting serious so quickly freaks them both out. But they are just so great together.
Read it, I dare you…

Absolutely love this author! Zoe York writes about sweet and sexy yet angsty and intriguing characters. This book was no exception. The Camp Firefly Falls series is such a fun and ingenious idea. I loved the unexpected and instant antagonism between Tegan and Wyatt that set off a series of dares that just resulted in the opposite reaction than they expected.

Tegan arrives to Camp Firefly Falls with a chip on her shoulder spurred by the fear of losing her home and her job. Having three muscled military men in the cabin right next door, one particularly grumpy one of which she can't seem to keep her eyes off, isn't helping any. Determined to enjoy the week with her friends before her life slaps her back to reality Tegan finds the insufferable Wyatt's sudden dare intriguing and she even follows through with her own dare, a challenge he feels the urge to meet head on. With the gauntlet thrown these two battle back and forth until neither can remember what started it all, not to mention they could care less what their friends think of their sudden public displays of affection.

However, Wyatt knows the military is his life and he knows it's not for everyone. Tegan has issues with her own life right now that she must figure out and new commitments will leave them heading in different directions the end of the week. So how can these two possibly make a relationship work?

Tegan Bennett is at a crossroads in her life, after losing her job and quickly running out of money. She's hoping a week at her childhood camp will help her find a new path. Wyatt Henderson is a Navy SEAL who is just coming off a desk job at the Pentagon and hopes to clear his head and get some fishing in. His buddies have dragged him along to camp, but all he wants is peace and quiet. When Tegan and her friends turn out to be in the cabin next door, his peace and quiet is shattered. And, although the two start off bickering at each other, it quickly turns into something more. This was a fun throwback to camp days and, even though it was insta-love, that was addressed in the story. I enjoyed it and really liked the characters - I'm looking forward to reading more Camp Firefly Falls books!

Navy SEAL Wyatt Henderson is coming off a three month desk job assignment to Washington DC, when one of his best friends invites him to a week of fishing and relaxing with a beer at Camp Firefly Falls. The same week is retro throwback week where now adult former campers come back to relive their childhood experiences. Tegan Bennett and two friends are part of the retro group.

When Tegan meets Wyatt sparks fly and they can't stand each other. This soon changes with both being assigned to KP in the kitchen. They get to talking and find they have more in common than differences; dislike quickly turns to attraction but the dares continue including the Skinny Dipping Dare. They have a difficult road to a happy ending in this witty and humorous enemy to lovers romance.

I dare you to read this book!

When camp alumni are attending this week long trip, they are allowed to bring additional friends. That long ago fun inspiration and hope was what Tegan needed after job and soon home loss. Needing a way to refresh and re-energize her thoughts and life goals, Tegan never expected to meet Wyatt. Wyatt needed to get back in shape as a Navy Seal who has been at a desk for 3 months. He never expected to be attracted to a hippie like Tegan. The chemistry and childishness between these two adults is light hearted and amusing. So entertaining to read. Plus I love how this author ended this story. When everything started on a dare.

Wyatt and Tegan are not looking for love. He is on military leave and getting ready to head back out on assignment as a Navy SEAL. Tegan is at the camp to have a great time and not dwell on the fact that she lost her job and needs to find another one soon. When they meet at camp they instantly clash. They have a lot of playful banter and before you know it Wyatt shows her the man behind the title SEAL. Can two opposites find a way to make it work? Throw in the long distance thing and let the drama unfold. Great read!

I was looking for rom coms at an author convention recently and stumbled across this little gem. It's adorable, light, fun, and just the right amount of steam. Due to it's length (novella more than full-length novel), don't expect a ton of backstory or any really in-depth look at Wyatt and Tegan's "problems", but sometimes you need simple. And there is no lack in the chemistry between these two. I love the back and forth when they're arguing, the explosiveness when they "get along", and the sweetness overall. Would definitely recommend.

Set in a summer camp, this book is a fun read. This is a sleepaway camp for adults but with many of the same activities as they had for kids in a grown up version.
Wyatt and Tegan are opposites that strike sparks off each other from the moment they meet. The initial sparks of anger soon turn to sparks of something more when Wyatt offers the first dare.
Great location, interesting characters and a fun story.

A Sigh-worthy HEA

Just love this series and everything Zoe York writes. Put them both together and you have a fun, fast, romantic read! Be prepared for the twists and turns as Wyatt and Tegan go from enemies to friends and finally to lovers. Each of the books in this series can stand alone, has no cliffhanger and ends with that sigh-worthy HEA.

Cute romantic fluff for a summer quick read. Low/no drama. Features a Navy SEAL hero - a favorite catnip for me. I've read several books by this author written under her other pen name (for spicier stories) but this series trends more contemporary. I enjoy her writing style across both genres. 3.5 stars.

WARNING - ENTIRE PLOT SUMMARY AHEAD (used for me to keep track of series events)
REALLY - DON'T READ THIS; IT SUMMARIZES BOOK.

Writing this late. He's on leave. She's jobless and homeless. Argument turn to love. He goes on tour; she does summer camp and winter ski instructor, then goes to live with him. Proposes.

Enjoyable Read

The author paints a blossoming love between 2 broken people. Both are struggling through various life issues and the summer camp seems the perfect place to work them out. Though the problems are slow to dissolve, the camp also presents additional issues that need to be addressed. Definitely worth the read.

Nice chemistry.

Thumbs up.

Favorite lines:

“I bet you could. Do you just want to demolish a steak right now?” “No.” She regretted telling him she wasn’t really a vegetarian. “Come on.” She groaned. “Maybe a little.” “I can sneak you one.” “That’s the sweetest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

Man I am so in love with Wyatt. I love seeing the way he grew through the book from being so closed off to opening up to Tegan and it made me happy to read this book it also helped to uplift my spirits. I am happy I choose to read this story by Zoe York. Thank tou so much for a heart warming love story with some added feelings to the mix to make it a book I couldn't put down!

It was cute but there were a couple of plot things I didn't believe e.g., Tegan's job goal for the winter-- she doesn't mention the activity once for over half the book, then bam! she declares she wants to teach it and we have to assume she's qualified to do so. And the ending seemed a little haphazard.
