More than six months ago, Jill put her past in the rearview mirror in search of a fresh start. Determined to start over, moving to Hawthorne seemed like the perfect place for new beginnings. The trouble is, sometimes the past just won’t stay buried.

When Jill and her son are threatened, one man will stop at nothing to keep them safe.

As President of the Knight’s MC, Cal Jackson is a force to be reckoned with. He is a man who consumes. A man who claims.

And he wants Jill.

Can Jill put her fears aside in order to let Cal in? Will she be safe long enough to try? Because she knows that once she does, life will never be the same.

This is the story of Jill and Cal. The fifth installment in the Ride series.

Cal can be read as a stand-alone but it's recommended that you read the other four books in the series first.

So I read this, and it was good. There wasn't anything wrong with it per se. It had likable characters (though I found Jill a bit annoying at the beginning). Cal wasn't as "alpha" as I would have liked. Admittedly I haven't read the other books in the series, but Cal seemed to have known Jill for awhile and wanted her, but never went for it. Which I found kind of "meh" I like my alpha's full on. And even when he finally seemed to be making a move it took forever before they actually did the deed.

I don't know. Like I said, there wasn't anything that turned me off. I was just left feeling "meh" I wanted a more alpha dirty talking hero (the sex wasn't all that steamy to me.) I think is just wanted MORE <--- if that makes sense. Maybe I am in a mood today...*lol*

This also seems to be the end of the series, and I was rather curious about TAG, so I am bummed that apparently, he isn't going to get a book.

This was the fifth and last book in the Ride series, and it was my absolute favourite! Cal and Jill are the main couple, and their story was packed full of emotion. Out of all the books, I felt this one held the most action and feeling than the the rest! Not only that, but we get a brilliant epilogue that shows us a glimpse of each couple in ten years! I loved that! It was during the epilogue we also get our opening into the “Second generation series “ that I will be starting on right away!

I highly recommend this MC series! It’s up there with the best! As it progresses it became better and better! I am certainly glad I gave this one a shot!

I've read Axel a long time ago and I didn't even remember. Now I know why. This series isn't really an MC series. At least not like the ones I am used to reading. This was just a regular romance where the hero happens to be part of an MC, but it doesn't really delve into the MC world.

It was nice and sweet but not at all what I was expecting and so I was a bit disappointed. I was also a bit annoyed with the heroine and how long it took her to get with the program and realize what Cal's intentions where. He was awesome by the way...great sweet and hot hero. Not as badass as I would have liked but I would definitely not turn him down if he offered me breakfast :P

All in all a nice read but not something I would re-read. I like my MC books a bit more on the badass side ;)

So 2,5-3 stars from me

I really liked this one, Cal is the perfect hero, never wavering or giving up. And the big bonus is he's an older hero and off the charts hot and totally charming too. I loved how patient he was with Jilly, who got on my wick a bit with how oblivious she was to Cal's pursuit of her. However, she was a damsel in distress coming out of an abusive relationship so I got why she was so hesitant. And as for how he was with those kids .... be still my beating heart.

A great end to the series with the promise of more from the next generation. Sign me up!

Update: Still my favorite of the series. I freaking love Cal.

What an amazing sendoff for this generation of the MC!

The Ride series is one I have enjoyed from the start. I found myself invested early on in all the members of the MC and was thrilled when I found out this book was going to be about Cal, the president of the Knights MC.

Cal has always caught my attention and I really wanted him to get his HEA. When Jill came into the picture and he showed an interest I was cheering. Cal’s been patient, giving Jill time to get her life in order, but now he’s done waiting. He’s found his biker queen, and come hell or high water he’s going to crown her and crush anyone who thinks they have a prior claim. As for Jill and her doubts, he’s going to crush those too. Everything he did pushed all my book boyfriend buttons in a very good way. Never wavering from his mission, he was alpha through and through but he could be unbelievably sweet and gentle when the situation warranted it, especially when it came to Jill and Mason. With every page turned he solidified his place on my Book Boyfriend Top Ten list.

After escaping the disaster of a marriage her one and only priority was her son, Mason. Because of the way his life started, she wanted him to have a loving and stable home. Cautious was putting it mildly when referring to her approach to everything. The last thing she wanted was for Mason to get attached to someone and then have them walk away. I completely understood why she felt this was best after what she left behind. Although not real excited about welcoming a man into her life, she loved being around Sophie and her MC family. A born nurturer, she fell in love with this group of people and took care of them every which way she could. She was strong, loyal, and a great mother–absolutely perfect for Cal.

The chemistry between Cal and Jill was an almost tangible thing that you could feel, and the longer they waited, the thicker it became. When they finally came together it burned through the pages. There is nothing better than a man who knows what he’s doing, especially when he’s with the love of his life.

Jill’s problems with her ex-husband took a turn for the worse, putting not only her in danger but Mason too. Despite the Knights best efforts, you can’t protect against everything and her ex is pulling out all the stops. All through this series, I’ve noted several times that you would think the bad guys would wise up and not go after a Knights woman. It just never turns out well. To make things worse, a family problem has deteriorated to the point that Jill may have to take action making for some life changing decisions. Cal had his hands full but I knew he was up to the task. By the time everything was said and done, I decided that Cal could just about give Big Hearted Mitch from KA’s lawman a run for his money.

The epilogue was one that Sparkles would shed tears of joy over, it was packed full of babies and happiness. To make things even better, the next generation is getting their own books. I can’t freaking wait, especially if I get some more Cal time in them.

Cal- wow. I really loved him. What a great example of a man, biker, lover, father, spouse. I truly loved how he was patient, loving, big hearted, caring, protective in the right amount/way... and the list goes on. He was perfect for Jill and the the brood of kids that would be theirs.

Jill- I really liked her too. She was a good balance of a heroine. She wasn't a wimp, doormat, too stupid to live... non of that. Thank heavens! She was such a great mom, aunt, old lady to Cal, wife, and friend. I loved that she was a nurse. I loved how she could be cool headed when she didn't think she could be. I loved the woman she grew to be, being with Cal and his club.

I loved the kids!! I loved Tag. I loved the guys and women of the club from previous books- and their broods.

I loved the Nemo bed moment. I loved the 'be ours forever' moment. I loved the last chapter. But I truly loved the epilogue- and seeing a glimpse into everyone's lives.

I wasn't a fan of the overly used word: dryly. And I felt that the story of Jill's niece and nephew could have carried the whole story. It basically overshadowed the main point- Jill's crazy husband! There wasn't enough of that storyline to be a main focus- in my opinion. And my last thought- Tag and Laurie deserved their own story. They were jipped- but thankfully had a place in the epilogue.

The minute Cal saw Jill he knew she was special and his second chance at happiness. Jill doesn't know what to think about Cal, she can't deny the attraction but after leaving her husband her only focus is her young son. Cal knows he has to ease his way with Jill, he is more than willing to accept her son as his own, but getting Jill to agree is another matter altogether. As he inserts himself in her life Jill struggles with the baggage of her life and an ex who doesn't want to let go.

I loved this. When I started reading this series I never expected Cal to get his own book but was thrilled that he did. I loved this story, Jill is trying to find her own way and realizes that her husband was not all she thought he was. Cal scares her, not because of who he is, just because he has the chance at breaking her heart even though he vows that would never happen. I certainly hope there is more to this fantastic series.

Cal and Jill - The President is the most protective, he's the last and he’s very gentle, patient and all around awesome. Jill’s a bit more hesitant but her past makes that understandable. By now the formula is in full effect and I knew what I was getting and I liked it. The epilogue also put a very sweet bow on this sweet biker series.

General Thoughts on Series:
I was cleaning out my kindle (dealing with my TBR list, or as I like to call it, The Mountain) reinforces that I may be a bookhoarder, but on occasion I find some hidden gems on there. I’d gotten the first three books of this series just sitting there, and once I start, I’m compelled to keep going.

I think I’d recommend this series for those who are way into the romance, and just want a touch of the MC life. To paraphrase Wedding Crashers,

“I'm sure you'd love to be free, maybe go out and meet some biker guy that can … make you feel dangerous but also safe.”

THAT’s this series in a nutshell. Yes, there’s some questionable women and some danger, but overall, it’s a comfort kind of read. The WTF-ery level is a 2, at most. The downsides are that alot of the action that leads to the danger, the actual MC stuff, happens off-page because it’s strictly first person POV from the individual heroines. But if that doesn’t bug you and you mostly want some sweet loving with some tattooed bikers, you may enjoy this.

4.0 RATING- I continue to like this biker-lite series. I've read each one and while I've liked some more than others, they all have been easy reads I've enjoyed. The star of this one was definitely Cal. I love reading about an older hero that is still smokin' hot. (I think Cal was 47.) He was absolutely the best mix of things: sexy and smooth but charming and kind. I adored him - he is now residing on my Best Book Boyfriends shelf =)

Definitely a series I'll keep reading.

The story itself was decent but it was kind of boring too. I didn't connect emotionally with the characters and I felt the biker MC President seemed was too nice and good to be true.

As a HUGE Kristen Ashley fan, I had to see for myself how this book compared to Motorcycle Man, as I had read favorable comparisons on Goodreads. Though there were some similarities in the beginning, I found at around 60%, definitely not so much. Mainly because that is when the writing started to really lose its mojo with me. It was around then the quality of the writing just wasn’t there for me, folks, and when this likable alpha “no one messes with me, my club, or my woman” MC Prez hero commenced to talking about feelings A LOT it all started to seem out of character. Yes, I prefer that over an obnoxious jerk but just like too much sugar in a dessert, it can ruin the literary recipe/effect. Thinking back it didn’t bother me he had a sensitive side, it was likely I just didn’t care for how it was scripted.

I have to agree with the many reviewers who found the heroine annoying at times. But only slightly so, in fact, again it came down to the writing. I feel like I should say, “Hey, don’t hold it against her, she couldn’t help it she was written this way.” Meaning, again, I think it was a writing issue, not a character one.

It was sweet, romantic how the hero was patient, had to earn her trust, and they weren’t intimate until they actually got to know each other.

However, despite the multi-layered action drama unfolding, I found myself becoming disengaged after halfway through it. By 80%, instead of hanging on every word, I instead began wishing the second half had been written as well as the first part. I’m undecided at this point if I will read the other books in the series. I read this as part of my kindle unlimited subscription, so other than time spent away from my long ARC to-be-read list, I didn’t have anything to lose. Plus, I am a sucker for a MC romance featuring the prez. I might venture back into this MC literary neighborhood some day when I’m looking for tough guys with softer sides. I just won’t expect it to be as well-written as a KA read.

(These comments are based on KU version, not an ARC.)

Title: Cal, Series: The Ride (Book 5), Author: Megan O’Brien, Pub. Date: 10/11/16, Kindle Unlimited version, heroine has a small child/getting a divorce from an abusive OM, stand-alone but most would recommend reading the series in order, MC romance theme, some violence, heroine is injured, no cheating, no love triangle, no OW/OM drama, hero seems to already be in love with her, VERY smexy with lusty language.

Jill moved to Hawthorne with her son Mason to escape her abusive husband, she has built a career and a life for them. She has always been attracted to the charismatic and commanding President of the Knights Cal but has always denied any attraction. But when she learns of her grandmothers death he pushes his way into her life and for once Jill lets him. Visiting her sister she sees the way that her and the children are living and wants nothing more than to look after them but little does she know that her ex is watching and waiting putting both her and Mason in serious danger. Can Jill continue to ignore the way that she feels for Cal and with her sister vanishing will he want to take on three children that aren’t his?

Cal is the President of The Knights and many women have wanted to be his throughout the years but he knew the minute that he laid eyes on Jill that she was the one woman that was made for him, Jill held herself back from the rest of the club but looked after any of the club members when they were in need. Cal knew from the start that he would have to bide his time and take it slowly in showing Jill that she could rely on him to stand by her side and take the rough with the smooth but now that Jill and Mason are in danger he knows that now is the time to take action. He can no longer stand by and watch the woman he loves suffer and when Emmie and Max need them he has no problem with their growing family. Can Cal convince Jill that their time has come and he will do whatever it takes to make her his?

When these two characters finally get together you breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they have finally got the happy ending that they deserve and that they truly deserved to be happy. It was a great epilogue although I was upset that Tag never got a book he has always been a great background character. Cannot wait for the next generation and the epilogue was perfect.

When Jill stepped up to help her pregnant friend, she didn't realize it would change her life. Jill was married to a man who was always away, that was fine with her especially when she got pregnant because he became more abusive over time. Jill kept that fact close to her chest and finally has had enough. She left to go to Hawthorne and be close to her friend as well as get on her own two feet.

Cal Jackson, President of the Knight's MC, is a man who knows what he wants. He has lived his life doing right by his club and son, and he is certain of one thing, he wants Jill. He gets that she is hesitant and he plans to be by her side when she realizes what they have will be different. Once Jill is ready, the threat of her ex becomes more intensified. Jill needs to let Cal protect her and he will or he will die trying.

The end of a fantastic series. When the series had started I had not expected Cal to get his own story but am thrilled he did. I thought Jill was perfect for Cal, she doesn't think she is strong but she is. Cal is so patient with Jill, he has a swagger that can't be matched by the other men in the series. Excellent entertainment.

I wanted Cals book from the first moment he was introduced. He was so mysterious. I wanted to solve him out like a puzzle. And in his book I saw all what Cal is. Which made me to fall really hard for this man. I freakn adore him. The way he was with his woman was priceless. Cal is just extraordinary.

This was the best book in the series. Love The Ride series, but this book was stunning. You need to get your hands on Cal ASAP.

Enthralled. Unforgettable. Emotionally gripping.

It's not very often a series comes along, where you are literally marking your calendar down until the next release! Well look no further than Megan O'briens Ride Series. This series has stuck with me, and continues to do so with the recent instalment 'Cal!

I was captivated from page one! Megan created a fantastic story for Cal and Jill. I was rooting for them in Rykers book, and I'm so happy they got their happily ever after!

Real talk now. I love love love, that Megan instilled REAL WOMEN into her books. They are strong, intelligent and independent! I also love that Megan incorporated real life events and issues and depicted them in a way that was entirely relatable!

I was taken on a humble journey through the lives of the Knights Rebels and their families, I was emotionally invested through the whole book, positive and negative it was a fantastic tone! I love Megans books and recommend them to everyone!

Overall I have really enjoyed this series.

And this book was no exception.

Cal was a great hero, I loved him. For me it was a case of save the best for last when it came to the hero. His heart was just so huge.

Jill I really liked. But I kept getting distracted. She is a nurse, yet apparently literally works in every department in the hospital! You get brought in to the Emergency Department she is there. You go into labour and get brought in, she is there. She was like a one woman show.

However, the series has been a great read for me, and I really liked the cast of characters. The MC brotherhood was great to read about. And all the heroines, backing each other up. They were a family.

DNF at 20%

Too much uninteresting stuff going on in the beginning (grandmother's passing, Jill's sister's issues). Didn't feel the chemistry between Cal and Jill, was just told that there is. 20% in and I wasn't connecting with the characters or the story line -- possibly because I started reading this book without reading the others before it.

I'm actually gutted this is the last in the series(yes I know there will be another with the next generation/kids) but it's not the same.
I absolutely adored this story just like all the others. The author has a way of writing these stories so brilliantly that even with the crazy you can't help but love them.
Most MC books are know for being ruff around the edges and not everyone's cuppa tea. With so much testosterone the MC world is known for being a mans world. Not these books though. These men know they wouldn't be who they are without there women. It takes a strong heroine to be able to
Handle the lifestyle and an even stronger women to live the lifestyle right along with there man. And these characters do that and more.

Cal is a fantastic leader and a great man all round but he needed a good women to soften him. Not make him less manly but just soften them edges enough to bring everyone together. My God he's definitely one of my fav book boyfriends of 2016. Aside from the fact that he's hot a hell, hes was super tentive and caring towards Jill knowing how traumatic her past was and is still haunting her he took his time being with her. Honestly he was down right sweet as pie with her pushing when she needed but also just being there for her to. And God lord the man made my overies sigh with how he was towards Mason. It takes hell of a man to step up to the plate and take another mans child on. And not just be there as a friend but a father. He does that not once nor twice but 3 frigging times!! He's just epicly fantasic.

Jill was so sweet and fearcly protective of her baby boy. With such a shitty past it takes hell of a women to get over and on with you future even when danger still lurks so close. She wasn't your in your face fiesty mouthy heroine but she had that quiet calm strong about her. She delt with situations like a damn champ where most women would run and hide and even though the idea of giving herself to a man petrified her to no end she pushed past the fear and let herself be happy and safe with a man would do anything to make sure of that. I also hold my hands to her for how she handles the situation with her sister and her niece and nephew. It takes hell of a women to do what she's done and made me respect her all the more.

The story flowed seamlessly throughout with little twists and surprises along the way. Not once did I become disinterested or bored. A few times I felt my eyes tear up at how sweet her and cal are together and how much character growth Jill had throughout the story. It was all round a bitter sweet fantastically beautiful story with the absolute perfect ending.

Let's just have a moment of silence for that epic epilogue.
.

It was perfect. But definitely bittersweet because anyone who's read this series from the beginning can truly appreciate how fantastic it is. We all know things have to come to an end at some point but it doesn't mean we can't begrudge it because that's only a compliment to how great the author is and how much she's achieved with this series.

Nothing but praises from me ... ohh and I'll be waiting for the second generation series. It's sure to be amusingly watching these big tough bikers watch there children grow, find love and be just as happy as their parents.

What A Great Series!!

This is one of the best MC series ever written, and I say that about other MC series I've read but this one is by far the very best, bar none. It's sad that Cal was the last book to this series but look forward to the next generation. So about the book as you know it's Cal and Jill's book, throw in a crazy ex who wants her and her son back so he can control her again by beating her and then there is her crazy sister who is a drug addict, abandons her kids in a motel room hungry until Max her nephew calls her for help. This was such an amazing story and loved how after everything Jill went through not only for herself but for her kids as well, Cal was always not to far away ready to step in and defend with his life or die trying. Definitely recommend the whole series you wont be disappointed.

Cal, the fifth book in the Ride series by Megan O'Brien, was a great way to finish this generation of the Knight's MC.

Cal, the Knight's MC's president, was smitten with Jill from their first meeting. She was introduced in Axel's book (book three) as Sophie's next door neighbor. Jill came with baggage and even more baggage was introduced. O'Brien took us through the conflicts and resolution with the typical alpha persona front and center.

O'Brien also included the entire MC family within the central theme of the story. It was great to see the continued development of each character from all the books and wrap them up in preparation for a new generation.

O'Brien committed to more on the horizon from the Knights MC through their children. Hopefully we'll get our first peek soon.

Pretty sure it's safe, no mention of him with others after meeting. They met in a previous book. I liked the story, seeing characters from other books, great epilogue. Just too much threatening to red her arse or other things for her not listening. I don't care for threats, especially for the number of times he promises to never hurt her.
After my re-read I still feel the same. Cal was better then Axel

I am currently obsessed with MC romances - I have been for about a year. I even started watching Sons of Anarchy - and okay, I get the hype. Some MC romances I've read are great...others, not so much. Some you could tell the author was just writing Sons of Anarchy fan fictions - insert eye roll here. But Megan O'Brien's Ride series, which consists of five books, and then continues in her second generation books, are just...A-MA-ZING. I started with Cole (as you definitely should) and read all five in one week. True, they are easy, quick reads, but I really couldn't put them down.

Each book centers on a new couple, but as you continue through the series, you get to see how the previous couples are doing, and how many kids they're having. I love that - there is no better gift to a reader then getting to see past the HEA and seeing that things are still great. The men in these books are so alpha and swoon-worthy. And what's great is they know they love and want the woman pretty much from the beginning. There is no lamenting the loss of their "singledom". They know what they want, and once they make that choice there is no looking back. I also loved how the women were strong, capable characters, but that they were also respectful of their men and their alpha tendencies. They knew when to argue and when to listen. They knew how to keep their men in line, but also knew when to let them do their thing.

If you're into this trope then these are the perfect books for you. They were exactly what I needed during a particularly difficult week. Now I've moved on to her Talon Security series, and dare I say they are just as good. I'm so glad to have discovered a new author to binge. Read these books - you won't regret it.

My heart ❤️

I could kick my own butt for a waiting so long to read this amazing series.
I can't wait bto start the next generation.
I loved Cal he was so generous, kind hearted , Bossy, genuine, and loved like no other . Jill had no clue the depths he would go to to make her life easier. I love the way he loved on her and how she was stubborn in the beginning but he waited patiently and it was well worth the wait. Love this series,❤️

From the previous books, I had a picture of Cal in my mind that he was older, so it took me a little while to adjust to the idea that he looks and is younger then I have been imagining him to be. The heroine tends to keep the hero at a distance and constantly pushed him away, even though she really wants him and he reciprocates those feelings for her, at first. You can feel the chemistry between these two.She is strong character though and I liked her.The hero is patient with the heroine, until he can no longer wait and lets her know that. She finally decides to give them a chance.I really love Cal and have since the first book. I really liked how Cal was with Jill and how he fell in love with the kids. I liked how they all came together. I liked how easily he can read her and knows what she needs, but then she can read him as well. I really loved how he took the kids into the fold. This couple had a strong connection and love for each other that came off the page. I really liked seeing this side of Cal in this story. It is one we didn't see before. I am glad he finally got his happy ending. This story included danger, love, family, friends, steamy sex scenes, cute kids, alpha men and stronger women.I really enjoyed this story. I liked seeing all the characters in this world from all the previous books in this one. I loved the epilogue and seeing how their lives were down the road. I was upset to see that this was the last one in this part of the series, but happy we get the
next generation's HEA. It should be interesting to see these tough men flip out when their baby girls bring men home.(especially how they were before they found their wives) This book was a very good read and a good ending to this series! Now we need the next generation's series!

let me start by saying i've enjoyed this entire series, and follow that up with saying that this book started off looking like it was going to be Yummeh.... I was sold when Cal said "done waiting babe."

And I was all like " oooooh gimme, gimme, gimme"

and then... that's where the chemistry stopped. dead. like not even a sizzle left... oh! it turns out, Cal was just joking or he didn't mean NOW Now - because, he really kept on waiting for quite a while longer ... and then it was just a whole lot of talking but very little doing, (okay there were some great sexy times - I will say Jill is one lucky bitch because EVERY Orgasm ended up being "the most intense one of her life..... every. one! imagine.....) and then the book just went on and on and on and on...... and i was like "Blah, Blah Blah, Blah, Blah... cumaaan already!"

FOR FUCKS SAKES!!!!! *Insert Face Palm here*
I've never been so happy to see a fucken epilogue in my life!

This book feels almost like a cut and paste of several of KA's books. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it just feels like there's not much that is new or fresh to these ideas.

The characters, plot and romance are great but feels like they only skim the surface. What this book lacks most is depth. The H loves the h. That is always a given. But why? We are never given any insight into how he came to love her or anything about his past.

Even saying all that, I still enjoyed this book. It is warm and fuzzy and the bikers are edgy but not too bad. If you're in the mood for a fluffy read, this is your book.
