Child actor Ethan Summer's only downtime was at their Florida beachfront house. His closest friend was Luis, their maid's son... until Ethan's parents whisked him away so Luis couldn't sell him out to the tabloids. Now a closeted A-list actor at twenty-three, Ethan dreams about running his own life. His parents force him out even further when his tongue slips: out of a family, job, money, and home. There's only one place he can run.
“I know what grief looks like.”
Luis Fitzgerald was supposed to make something of himself, but when his mother got sick, his dreams were traded for hard ranch work. After she died, he never told the Summers that he took over her housekeeping while he studies free online courses. They haven't visited since his first love left him without a word, and he needs the job. When gorgeous, expressive Ethan stumbles in, he's both everything Luis never stopped wanting and everything he fears.
“You aren’t responsible for keeping me safe.”
At first, neither can afford to risk telling the other what troubles him, but old feelings and wounds are hard to ignore. Luis will help Ethan win back everything he lost, but once-coddled Ethan has to learn to stand up for himself when he can barely make soup. Can they forgive and support each other in the glare of camera lenses, or will their fears keep their worlds apart?

He emerges from his writing nest to coo over fuzzy animals, flee from cute guys, dance through the streets with his chosen family, put together fierce looks, and—most of all—befriend local flowers.

Davis books; all have been wonderful ! Buzz, Clang, Spark, Sizzle, and Scorch ! ============
This was a pretty good read. Child actor Ethan Summer's only downtime was at their Florida beachfront house. His closest friend was Luis, their maid's son until Ethan's parents walks up on them kissing they whisked him away so Luis couldn't sell him out to the tabloids. Ethan is now a 23 year old actor who wants some freedom he wants to date win he tells his parents that he is gay they kick him out and cut him off with no where to go he returns to Florida. Luis Fitzgerald has had a rough life his mother got sick with cancer in his senior year of high school he worked and did her job as the Summer's maid as well as working on a ranch and barely graduated. When his mother died he continued to work for the Summer's not telling them that his mother died. When Ethan shows up he doesn't know what to do he is angry because Ethan never returned his calls or emails and when he finds out that he never got them they talk and it turns out that Ethan's parents lied to him about Luis selling him out. Ethan wants to live his life he is tired of sneaking around and hiding. I did not like his parents they used him as a cash cow they froze his accounts with the money that he made in them and tried to keep him from getting his trust fund. When his parents visit they put cameras in the house and post them online with Ethan and Luis kissing they also blackmail him into doing a film with a director that he doesn't want to work for. Luis is not happy so he leaves and Ethan learns to stand up to his parents. This was a good read it was sweet Ethan just wanted to be happy. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
This book and its author had received a lot of strong reviews, so I thought I would give it a try. I am a fan of MM erotica. Unfortunately, this book left me wanting a lot. I found the characters flat and honestly somewhat uninteresting.
The premise and the first third of the book pull together really well. Forbidden love between a now-grownup child movie star and his boyhood friend. Ethan's parents have lied to him, and he is suddenly blindsided by their reaction to his being gay, a secret he's held as tight as he could. Luis, his childhood friend at his Florida vacation home, was his first kiss.
Now, with Ethan on his own he flees his parents and ends up back in Luis's arms. (This isn't a spoiler, you'll know we're headed this far after the first chapter). But can Ethan trust Luis? Can Luis trust Ethan, the man who broke his heart all those years ago.
Wow, we've got the makings of a hell of a story here. And then … it just falls flat.
There are sparks between the two men, there is a smattering of conflict and tension, but mostly there is Ethan acting like a self-absorbed moron and treating Luis horribly. Even when they do get back together (again, not a spoiler, you know it's going to happen.), Ethan's clumsily voiced doubts about Luis's loyalty would push anyone to just dump the spoiled punk.
Ethan's closeted back story makes sense, but Luis's story is marginally fleshed out at best. His mom died. He's lived a secret too. But is he out as a gay man or not? He says he's not, but he is absurdly inactive as far as friends, boyfriends, all of that. He's even a stranger at what seems to be the one and only gay bar in town. Say what?
The supposed crisis between Ethan and his parents could have been resolved in a heart beat by Ethan holding a press conference and calling out his homophobic parents. What theatrical agents would possibly want that reputation – they work in Hollywood, not freaking Alabama? And even if this conflict were somehow a huge deal, the author really lets it fall terribly flat. Ethan's parents are cardboard stand-ins for anti-gay bigots. They never seem real, and their motivation in fighting Ethan's coming out is entirely unexplored. They are simply one-dimensional evil people who want to take advantage of their son. Maybe those people really exist, but they make for uninteresting characters.
There's some lawyer who never really develops into much of anything except a warm body to sit at negotiations and a court hearing. Luis has studied the law and he finds something in Ethan's contract but that's given short-shrift in the narrative, hence wasting all the pages you've waded through about Luis going to school. Ethan's involvement in a local Florida theater and a children's production does nothing to further the plot or add any new wrinkles to either of the main characters. There's potential for something, maybe, but it
Oh, and then there's this (SPOILER: SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU CAN'T STAND BEING SURPRISED), Ethan is shocked. SHOCKED! When he finds out that his friends in Hollywood support him. Seriously? If this book was set in 1986 instead of today that would be plausible. Hell, Ethan even went to a gay wedding, yet he thinks he's going to be ostracized as an actor … in Hollywood … California?!? The only thing shocking is that someone would be shocked.
The dialogue between Ethan and Luis works okay, though they never really develop what feels like any authentic depth between them, and they sounded more like two women talking to their lovers and not two men with actual boy parts. They are connected by some kiss years ago, but they never explore any feelings other than how lucky they feel to have each other, their reactions to Ethan's parents and Ethan insulting Luis. What do they really have in common? What attracts them to each other other than Ethan's good looks and Luis's physicality? Anything? Anything? Maybe it's Ethan's constant need to second-guess Luis's loyalty to his face. Yeah, that would bring a couple together.
Despite Ethan's limitations as a human being, Luis ultimately is the failing in this entire story line. The poor housekeeper's son is like some demented puppy dog who never shows a spine and just keeps coming back for more. Rather than being bold, kicking Ethan in the butt and telling him to grow a pair already, Luis just goes along for the ride taking the abuse. Luis could have been the pivotal drive in it all, showing Ethan that there's another way for him to be. In a way, he sort of does, but it's such a thrown away bit of fluff that I felt angered by it being (I think) the climax of the book.
The sex in the books was alright, mildly hot, yet it still felt like I was watching a PG-13 porno film. The body parts were there, the actions were there, but someone kept trying to cover my eyes to keep me from seeing anything. The love scenes were also where their dialogue particularly missed the mark for me. They didn't sound like two men in the heat of passion, or at least certainly not any passion I've ever known.
Does this book suck? No. Was it disappointing? Yes, and ultimately that's the rub. There are much, much worse titles out there, and you could certainly do far, far, far worse than reading this relatively short novel by E. Davies. The characters and the execution of the plot itself just fell flat and felt underutilized. And maybe that's the real problem: the author did too well in setting this story up, but then failed to deliver anything nearly so good through the rest of the book.
Without potential, you cannot have disappointment.
Wow... this book is so good it seriously needs a sequel. Ethan and Luis are two of the best characters the author as created in all his books I have read thus far. And the story so well told that I actually had trouble at times reading it, because despite it being a HEA, I still got totally sucked into the crap that threatened to push the two of them apart. All in all, one of the very best books I have read by this author and I look forward to working my way through the rest of his published work as well as each new book he releases!
Young male actor comes out to his parents and is thrown out. He goes back to his childhood vacation home and rekindles a lost love. There's not much more to it. Parents are over-the-top BAD guys. young men are practically saints. Pretty much just sex with bf and evil deeds by parents.
This book was not for me, I read it for a challenge and frankly that is the only reason I finished it. It had the makings of being and interesting but unfortunately, this book left me wanting. I found the characters flat and honestly somewhat uninteresting.
There are sparks between the two men, there is a smattering of conflict and tension, but mostly there is Ethan acting like a self-absorbed dick all the time and treating Luis horribly, and Luis well can I just say door-mat.
I enjoyed this book so much. E Davies is one of my favorite authors as of late and I'm slowly reading his older works as I started out with a few of his newer books. With that said. I loved this couple and felt as if they grew as the story went. I highly recommend this book as I know you will love it too.
This was a great story. I spent most of it wondering how Luis was going to get out of trouble. he was by far my favorite character. Loved Owen as well. I would love to read more about all the characters. Except for Ethan's parents. Feel free to kill them off.
I was given this novel in exchange for a honest review so here it is....This is one of many great novels that E. Davies has written. His writing style is amazing and captivating. The story line is strong. The characters are well developed and believable. This is the story of two young men who were best friends growing up until Ethan's parents tore them apart one day. His parents convinced Ethan that Luis was only using him to get what he wanted and unfortunately Ethan believed them. They left the beach house that very night with not even a goodbye. Ethan continues to be a movie star into adulthood with his parents as his agents. They have Ethan tied up into an iron-clad contract. At 23, Ethan tells his parents he is gay... unforgiving, his parents throw him out of their house, freeze his money accounts, except one, and for the exception of his car, Ethan is homeless. As he gets his remaining things that night, he decides to get the keys to the beach house in Florida, arriving there late that night. Luis, who has been taking care of the Spencer beach home for years since his mom passed away, without the Spencer's knowing it. He knew they hated him and he would be fired. He needed the money to live and hopefully go after his college education in law. As he gets there that morning he sees a car in the driveway...Thinking that the Spencer's were there, he prepares himself, only to be surprised to see Ethan. The two not sure what to say or do towards each other. They don't trust one another to let the other know what is going on, so they walk on egg shells until emotions play out. Ethan finally breaks down and Luis is there to pick him up. The attraction between them is still strong after so many years and the walls between them and around them start to crumble. The two finally talk about the past, finally realizing the lies that Ethan's parents has told him. Luis is the confidant, more assertive one. Ethan has always been very dependent on others since everything has been done for him. Now his parents were taking everything away...Between the two of them, Ethan decides what he needs to do and getting a lawyer and fighting his parents is one of them. Unfortunately, Ethan is weak and bends to his parents, crushing Luis.. Luis leaves thinking he was done....Ethan has once again turned him away and denied him. But that's not the end. This is an incredible story of two young men who have been reunited, finding love once again, and fighting for what they want. Loved this story. Highly recommend it to those who love MM Romance. Don't miss it. Its Hot, Sexy, Emotional, and a great HEA.
This book felt different from others I have read by E Davies. The angst was certainly there, to the extent that for quite a lot of the book I feared that the happy ending for Ethan and Luis would not be together, but finally, things became clearer between them and realisations about what was really important in life came to the fore.
The emotion and Mis-trust between the MCs was intense, but totally realistic, both young men having spent six years believing the wrong thing about the other. But trust can be rebuilt and the mutual attraction had never died completely and I really felt that they deserved their HEA, especially Luis for whom I had more of an affinity.
We may not live with press intrusion, overbearing parents and public scrutiny, but we all owe it to ourselves to be true to ourselves, to who we really are and who we believe we should be and to be loving, loyal and caring to those we love and who love and care for us. This book may be about characters who exist in a world far from my reality, but their first world problems are the same as those many of us face - and whilst reading this story I was aware that I am certainly not immune from every day pressures that leave us struggling to be honest about who we really are.

Ethan was a child actor who only got a few weeks of downtime at his family home in Florida during the summer. His closet friend was Luis, the maid’s son, until Ethan’s parents whisked him away with stories of Luis selling stories to the tabloids about him. Luis had plans to make something of himself, and then his mother died, and he needed money, so never told Ethan’s parents that his mom passed away and he just kept taking care of the house. Six years later, Ethan is back, and Luis still wants him. Both are afraid to tell each other what is going in their lives right now. Luis is willing to help Ethan get back everything he has lost, but Ethan needs to be willing to stand up for himself.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. Ethan in the beginning annoyed me, for not standing up for himself, but once it got a bit further in the book, he seemed to have his ego taken down a bit. He was then more relatable

My heart really hurt for Ethan and Luis. Ethan was fed lies by his parents as a kid; at that age, especially when one is as sheltered as Ethan because of his acting, he had no reason to believe the lies weren't true. In the years since the two boys are separated, Luis has had to grow up quickly and try to take care of everything-and be alone while doing it. When the two guys see each other again, I was grateful that it didn't take 1000 pages of them dancing around each other. There are more attempts at deception, extortion, and evil (and I admit to being worried about the angst level), but it played out beautifully. I really loved meeting Ethan and Luis, and Kyle, Hal, Owen, and Mike. I could envision more books being written in this world (hint, hint...lol!). I enjoyed this. And the ending was cute. :-)
An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
I'm going ahead to say I hated the story from the get go when I first started the prologue and got to chapter three. I didn't think I would be able to finish it. I thought Ethan was spineless snot even knowing his situation. His parents were awful and the thought of them was putting me off. But persevere I did and it actually turned out to be a fine read. There were parts of the story that just peeved me off but it was totally worth continuing just to see Ethan tell his parents off.

Ethan, a child actor who has turned 23 is unsettled in his life as it is. When he is turned out broke and homeless by his parents/managers for possibly being gay, he returns to Florida. Luis his ex-bestfriend is there and they face Ethan's growth into legal maturity and their relationship into emotional maturity. Well developed storyline and characters makes the book easy to read and enjoy.
I really liked this book and Ethan & Luis story kept on the edge. I like how everything came full circle for them and they found their way back to each other. Ethan an actor had to grow up after what his parent did and Luis was there to help him become the person he should have been.
A fantastic read :)

I LOVED this book. I have read All of Ed's other books and I really think he did Great on this one. Definitely my favorite by him so far. It was the perfect amount of everything. Sweet, Cute, Angsty, Suspenseful and kept you on the edge waiting to see what would happen between the two MC's. I am so glad they were able to overcome everything that was thrown at them and ended up having a HEA.
Very romantic book about friendship that turns into love. It about a relationship that has lasted their whole lives even through the people who were suppose to love and cherish them turn to betrayal instead. It about learning to stand up for yourself and recognizing that you yourself is worth it.
I received this book for an honest review. Luis and Ethan grew up together. But then after having been caught kissing, Ethan's controlling parents lied and took him away. Years later Ethan goes back and finds most things the same, to include Luis and their feelings for each other.
Very cute love story about two best friends who were separated and six years later reunited to find that their connection is still there. I loved Luis and he seemed very grounding in the turmoil for Ethan. I just enjoyed the story from beginning to end.
This author is new to me. Not only is the story sweet and endearing, so too are the characters. Well written and scripted. Good editing. It's a love story as well as a finally standing up for oneself story. Admirably done.
Sweet love story. The characters are so sweet and engaging and are also realistic and believable. Found myself pulling for them to get their HEA. Really enjoyed it!
I have a thing for movie star romances. I also live in Florida and love a good beach theme. So this story, while simple, ticked off all my boxes. Loved it.
