Danger. Power. Glamour. Meet the Witches of Ashford Place.
When Grace Walker moves into a grand apartment overlooking Central Park, she has no idea that all the beautiful tenants are secretly Witches. Only that for the first time in her life, she feels at home.
But when one of the women is murdered, and a New York City detective starts asking questions, Grace is drawn into a secret world of danger, sex and revenge.
It's a journey that will take her from the bright lights of Manhattan to the battlefields of Medieval England, as she learns the truth about herself, her family and a secret world that has existed since time began.
I've been obsessed with stories ever since I was a little girl - whether reading them, writing them or watching them. In fact, I'm probably doing one of those things right now.
After releasing two books in the traditional publishing world (DEVIL MAY CARE Simon & Schuster/Atria and BY INVITATION ONLY St. Martin's Press), I decided to self-publish THE WITCHES OF ASHFORD PLACE and two non-fiction books.
I'm working on a new thriller that I'm really excited about. I've never enjoyed writing a book more ...
Here's the "official bio" btw:
Sheri McInnis was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. As an author, she has worked with some of the most successful agents and editors in the business, including those responsible for such hits as The Nanny Diaries, Sex and the City and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Her first novel, DEVIL MAY CARE (Simon & Schuster/Atria) was an Us Weekly Hot Book Pick, and her second, BY INVITATION ONLY (co-written with Jodi Della Femina and published by St. Martin’s Press) was recommended by In Style magazine and many others. She has a degree in Radio and Television Arts from Ryerson University and lives in Toronto with her husband, an independent documentary producer.
This novel is fresh, well written and has all the ingredients to keep you hooked. Ms Mcinnis has pulled a rabbit out of the hat in creating an addictive, fast-paced plot that draws you in from the get-go. Witches and Warlocks are alive and well in Manhattan. Dark magic and evil tension build throughout as lives are snuffed out in a quest for power. The sexy storyline is infused with secrets which threaten to damage our main character, Grace Walker and her allies. Grace appears vulnerable, but as the plot unfolds, we discover she is destined to assist in a greater mission. The book ends with many questions - It's a tantalising finish and as a reader, I felt both sated and ready for more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel and highly recommend it.
I was blown away by The Witches of Ashford Place- a brilliantly written, character driven novel full of surprises and unpredictable scenes. The story is hypnotic and at times horrifying as Grace Walker gets closer to the truth of her true existence. The paranormal aspects seem plausible or will at least have a reader believing in the possibilities of ancient and modern witches, and that's to the credit of Ms. McInnis who flawlessly weaves what is normal day to day life with the paranormal. This book will lift a reader up from her seat and have her twirling round and round through the air in wonder as she whispers... Ana'laish.
The story is told in the first person narrative and the author's unique voice and powerful storytelling shines. I hate to even use the word "storytelling" because Ms. McInnis's writing is brilliant, and she is a master at the writing technique of "show, don't tell". The mystery, suspense, romance and deliciously passionate scenes are intriguing and captivating. I was swept up in the Witches of Ashford Place and can't wait to read the next book in the Hunter's Moon series.
This was one of the more entertaining books I’ve read. I have to admit, this book caught me a little by surprise. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but it seems more like a mystery to me as we follow Grace as strange occurrences from disappearing items, strange dreams, and murder helps her to learn about herself and her family history.
While the characters are engaging, there were times I wondered about Grace. While she and the other characters are well written, I’m amazed at her lack of curiosity throughout most of the book. I’m an extremely curious person, so it’s hard to understand her reasoning. It’s only fair to say I’ve known people like her, so this is more my personal taste than anything else, but I think it’s awesome that the main character hit so close to home.
The story itself is well written and fast paced. It’s hard to find an excuse to put it down even at chapter breaks. It’s a nice blend of the current trend of witch and magic stories with a few twists that keep it engaging and fun. It’s unfair it ended so soon, and I can’t wait for the next book.
Harry Potter aside, I don’t normally read books about witches. So what a surprise and delight to find myself up past midnight devouring The Witches of Ashford Place by Sheri McInnis.
Where to begin . . . Great storytelling and characters. Superb writing. The author has a gift for description and powerful imagery. The chapters are one beautiful and vivid canvas after another transporting us from ancient battlefields to a vibrant depiction of New York City that pulsates with excitement and raw energy. Kudos to the author for her creativity in bringing a coven of sexy designer witches to an upmarket apartment building overlooking Central Park.
I enjoyed reading about Grace Walker’s supernatural experiences and evolution to embrace her destiny. We see her gain confidence, poise, strength and sexual power on her journey, and experience the magic of her first flight. The story is fast-moving and full of surprises and questions. The mystery surrounding Grace’s childhood and her mother is captivating: Grace’s night terrors and dreams of beasts and killing; her mother’s mysterious absences and death in a rooming house fire.
The characters and setting bring loads of glamour and a “Sex in the City” vibe to the story. Beyond the glitz and glitter, there are heartfelt emotions and conflicts in Grace’s relationships with her fiancé, lovers, friends, grandmother and a New York City detective. We see her struggling to make sense of the wondrous and horrifying things happening around her, especially after the brutal murder of her dear friend.
So many passages of exceptional writing, a favorite: “Claire was in the Light Tower, soaring into the tallest reaches of the building, more than a hundred stories up, glowing like a firefly in the darkness . . . The Queen spread her arms out on either side of her body, wisps of light flowing from her fingertips. Her white-blonde hair shone behind her, whirling as if in a strong wind, and the diaphanous layers of her long white shroud fluttered about her like wings.”
Well done Ms. McInnis! The Witches of Ashford Place sizzles with intrigue, mystery, suspense and passion.
"Hunter's Moon" is a quick-paced, exciting adventure into the life of Grace Walker and the witches of Ashford Place, a seductive New York address overlooking Central Park and residence to a modern day coven of witches. I was immediately swept up in this brilliantly written book, turning page after page and finding myself unable to put it down until I was finished. McInnis is a top notch storyteller, who managed to capture the suspense of "Rosemary's Baby" and allure of "Breakfast at Tiffany's", while telling a story that is uniquely all her own. I am looking very forward to Book Two in the "Hunter's Moon" series, and to learning how Grace Walker will fulfill her destiny as The Hunter. I'm sure I'm not the only reader having to wait this out. Can't wait to follow Grace to Stone Henge, where she' will continue her training for this new life, it seemed she just stumbled into, when in actuality, its been preordained for centuries. I recommend this book whole -heartedly to everyone, my only regret being I didn't find it sooner.
Sexy, thrilling, well researched and written. If you enjoyed, Practical Magic or The Witches of Eastwick you will love this book!
Finally a contemporary story about witchcraft that highlights the important female relationship aligned with the elemental. This story offers a well crafted plot with a few extra twists to keep it exciting. Love the setting of New York City, the symbolism of a special tower and the historical basis of Central Park...It all had me wondering! I was enthralled by the rituals and the dangerous struggle between the modern world and the ancient one. Good versus evil is one of my favorite topics and this book did not disappoint.
Put this novel on the top of your list for a hot, summer read. Highly recommended!
Not many books snag me from the first paragraph like this one did, as it usually takes me a little to warm up...but I was hooked from the start. I honestly couldn't tear myself away! McInnis artfully delivers one steamy, suspenseful, intriguing, masterfully written, well researched story that I think would be fantastic as a TV series. Five stars all the way; I can't wait for book two. Well done, Sheri McInnis!
I read this a while ago and still remember many of the scenes vividly.
I love the idea of magic and witches. What I like even more is when the protagonist in a novel doesn't know they are special and they discover themselves and the power they have a bit at the time. This is one such story.
Not having read any books from this author before, but knowing she's had some NY Times success, I anticipated the book would be well-written, and wasn't disappointed. I was soon immersed in a mystery of who Grace, the main character, was and why she was drawn to the high rise overlooking NYC Central Park.
Grace is a three dimensional woman, exploring her sexuality/sensuality at the same time as she explores the relationships around her and what they mean to her. But that's nothing to the strange happenings around her - some small intriguing events, others gripping or revelationary - all leading to a hot bed of deep magic. What appears to be a string of coincidences is more than that. Grace soon finds herself in a pivotal role in the secret battle fought right in the full sight of the world...
The biggest downside of this novel is that I wanted to keep on reading and the next book in the series isn't out yet. Come on Ms McInnis - I'm waiting!
What a delicious read! I am so grateful to have discovered Ms. McInnis' writing. ‘The Witches of Ashford Place: Hunter's Moon’ is wonderfully written; seaming different locales, geographical zones and times in history in an effortless manner, but with an increasing suspense and tension that kept seductively reeling me in further, so to speak, as the plot was revealed and the characters disrobed their secrets. This book is hot, sexy, and full of intrigue, and I am eagerly awaiting book 2. At first, I thought this is not normally the type of book or genre I would read, yet, in hindsight, of course, this is the type of book I would read-magical fantasy in a modern setting stringing ancient Celtic wisdom into this reality. I savored ‘The Witches of Ashford Place: Hunter’s Moon’ like nibbling on beautiful cheese with a gorgeous wine. Yummy!
This is a compelling and wonderful story of danger, glamour, and the fight for power. From the very first page I was completely hooked, as I followed Grace Walkers journey. The book has been very cleverly written and keeps you guessing all the way through. I loved the fact that even though I knew what was happening to Grace, I didn't really know, what was going to happen to Grace next. Sheri McInnis has a beautiful writing style, and this book was an absolute pleasure to read. Each character feels so real, and I love the way that Gracie tries to add some type of logic to what is happening to her, while unconcsiouly questioning everything. I can't wait for book two...
I really enjoyed this story. I was prepared for this to be aimed at a female audience, I am 100% male and I thought it was great. Imaginative, intriguing, suspenseful and seductive. There were so many things going on it drove me forward to see what was next. The writing has such a smooth style it reads itself. I was taken to a world I didn't know existed, I'm glad I went. Very entertaining and visual, I want to know what's next.
