Gayle Hargreaves has never read a Brontë novel so, when a film crew descends on her small Yorkshire town and her life is thrown into disarray, she isn’t impressed.
And she’s even less impressed when the handsome actor playing Mr Rochester starts flirting with her. But she can handle it, can’t she? After all, she just isn’t the sort to fall for a man in period costume...
Set in the beautiful landscape so beloved of the Brontë sisters, The Full Brontë is a light-hearted novella.
Victoria Connelly is the author of the bestselling novel ‘The Rose Girls’ and ‘The Book Lovers’ series as well as many other novels and novellas.
Her first published novel, ‘Flights of Angels’, was made into a film in Germany. ‘The Runaway Actress’ was shortlisted for the RNA’s Romantic Comedy award and Ms Connelly is one of the few English authors to be listed on the Romance Writers of America’s Honor Roll.
Victoria Connelly grew up in Norfolk before attending Worcester College where she studied English Literature. After graduating, she worked her way through a number of jobs before becoming a teacher in North Yorkshire.
In 2000, she got married in a medieval castle in the Yorkshire Dales and moved to London. Five weeks after their wedding, her husband, a television news cameraman, was sent to Israel. Convinced something terrible would happen to him, she came up with the idea for a novel about a young widow who starts seeing angels on her desk at work, but was scared to write it in case she tempted fate. It was only years later that her husband admitted to having a bullet graze his shirt sleeve whilst filming in Israel!
Although having had articles and short stories published, it was only when Flights of Angels was published that Victoria was able to realise the dream of becoming a professional writer. Published as Unter deinem Stern in Germany, the novel was made into a film for television by award-winning Ziegler Film. Her second novel, The Unmasking of Elena Montella (Wenn es dich gibt), was published in 2007 and her third, Three Graces (Wohin mit der Liebe), was published in 2009. All three magical romantic comedies are now available as ebooks.
Her first novel to be published in the UK – Molly’s Millions – came out in 2009. This was followed by a trilogy about Jane Austen addicts: A Weekend with Mr Darcy, The Perfect Hero (US title: Dreaming of Mr Darcy) and Mr Darcy Forever.
The Runaway Actress was published in April 2012 and she is currently working on another romantic comedy, Wish You Were Here.
This is a charming novella set in Yorkshire - Bronte country. Gayle has never read a Bronte novel in her life but her beloved mother knew them all almost by heart and Gayle feels she knows all about them.
She isn't impressed when a team arrive in her village to film a new adaptation of Jayne Eyre including a handsome actor playing Mr Rochester who starts flirting with her. But Gayle is too down to earth to have her head turned by a handsome man in period costume - or is she?
I enjoyed this light read with its practical heroine and her spiky sense of humour with her love of the moors which have played such a large part in her life. If you want something quick and easy to read with the feel good factor and plenty of humour as well as a gentle love story then try this.
Contemporary Jane Eyre fans enjoy a variety of life interrupted moments in this enjoyable read by one of my favorite Brit authors... audio listen with accents of Jan Cramer adding to story's authenticity. Available via audible romance pkg
Fine for a short read. I'm just reading things like this to get me back in the swing. I normally don't read contemporary books but it interested me. The ending was a bit abrupt even for a short story.
Every one has had that dream once in their life about meeting their most favourite actor and him actually taking notice of you..... Well Victoria must of had the same dream and created this wonderful novella. Short, sweet and to the point.... But don't be fooled, not everything is exactly as we dreamed.
Fine romantic story based around a young woman Gayle who bumps into a famous actor in her fish and chip shop and her adventures with him as well as Fran who has a long term boyfriend who she takes slightly for granted in terms of her obsession with the Bronte sisters novels. This was a good short story/novella.
It was ok. It's something to read to pass the time when you can't focus on something complex. It is light hearted but lacks any depth really. I do like how Connelly portrayed real life romance though.
A short and sweet Brontë inspired read. The two narrative threads don't gel especially well and the ending is a little bit off but all in all an enjoyable short read.
Delightful, short little story that transports you to the English countryside and a little village that is enthralled with its connection to the Bronte sisters. There was a twist in the end that pleased me greatly. Connelly has a gift for transporting the reader and enveloping them in the setting.
