“It isn’t in my nature to be gentle, Doll.” His voice is tight with restrained passion. “I think I might break you.”
There it is the truth. Roman doesn’t want to hurt me. He doesn’t realize that all I have ever known is pain. In moments where I should’ve been pleasured, I was only given pain. Roman is promising pain too. Yet somehow, I know that Roman’s pain is different. His pain speaks only of a pleasure. I want what his green eyes have been promising me since he saw me perform on stage tonight.
“Break me Roman. I’m not as delicate as you think. Break me”
My words cause Roman’s eyes to fly open. The fight is gone. Only the storm remains and it’s beautiful. I know now that I’m going to get exactly what I wished for.

You know what made me click and read this title? The cover! It is gorgeous! And when I saw that beautiful, brown face with that fluffy mass of hair, I really didn’t care what it was about. I just wanted to read the story. And I wasn’t disappointed.

Sora Matthews is a woman on the run. Her fiancé David is a US senator who is physically and mentally abusive to her and has unlimited money and power to keep her on a tight leash. Sora ends up in a small, country town in Georgia where she is living in semi-anonymity when she meets biker/construction worker Roman “Beast” Gage one night at the bar where she waitresses and on occasion, sings. These two are immediately attracted to one another and waste no time acting on that attraction. They’re also both hiding heavy secrets from one another that ultimately test the newfound love that they have for one another.

One thing I want to address is I’ve read a review or two where they mention how the neo-Nazi/white supremacist falls in love with the black girl trope is played. I totally didn’t get that vibe at all when I read this. Roman Gage was a hardened biker who was in a motorcycle club where race-mixing was forbidden because of some ignorant, backward notions about white supremacy. If you’ve read an MC romance or two, then you know that this is not uncommon, but as far as Roman and Sora are concerned, I didn’t gather that Roman was a neo-Nazi. He was a lil ignorant in his thinking because when we yearn for a sense of belonging, we’ll do whatever, even if it’s wrong, to get it. And one look at Sora, and it was a wrap for Roman. He didn’t struggle with his “racist beliefs” because he fell for a black woman. If anything, I felt he did the opposite and defied his “family” and let his love for this woman prevail. There wasn’t even a contest. Homeboy didn't even have to think twice, lol. He was ready to drop the club, his BFF/brother, everything for Sora without hesitation. Moving on…

I thought this was a very good debut by a self-published author. The storyline was consistent for the most part, although there were a few inconsistencies that I found (For example, Sora tells us that if anything were to happen to her best friend Alec, then she would be all alone. That’s not true, because her grandparents are still alive, living in Paris.) There were a few misspelled words and run-on sentences, but overall, still a very good effort. I could follow along clearly in spite of all of this and not go WTF is she talking about?

So, if you love a good MC story with a plot twist or two, then this is a good one to check out. I look forward to the other stories in the series, particularly Chase’s. Wow…Totally wasn’t expecting that one!

I read this book on Kindle Unlimited and this story is by a new author which I have not read before.

I loved that Roman was rough and ready and was a bit of a beast. I loved that they were attracted to each on other sight. I felt the connection between the couple. They were both broken and their brokenness spoke to each other.

I thought it was great to see how Sora's love could reach out and calm the beast that was raging inside of Roman. I believe true love can do that. I loved the refreshing honesty between the couple about their feelings. The only part I thought was disappointing was when Roman was not as honest and open to Sora as she was with him about his background. I understand that he was protecting her but because of that mistake it threw Sora into a tail spin and right back into the arms of her mother and her abuser.

This story had the theme of when a mother chooses men and money over her own child and that touched a cord with me. This issue is one of my personal triggers. I wanted to give Sora's mother a beat-down for selling out her daughter in that way.

I loved how the author focused the story on the couple and it was not overly descriptive about places and things, I truly dislike this elements in romance books.

I would recommend this book as a great refreshing read.

Good try I guess, but everything as usual is painfully cliche and unimaginative. I had no great expectations when I began reading; but this is still much worse than I expected. I'm so tired of books like these! I've gone through several books in two days, and everything from the writing styles to the main characters follow the same basic idea. That does NOT bode well for the genre...I just want an interracial romance or erotica that is both unique and well written so that I can be captivated. Is that REALLY such a farfetched idea? Five stars in comparison to what???

Here's some advice for potential readers:

If you're an avid and well-rounded reader like myself, and are looking for a novel that is well-written, charming and titillating this might not be your cup of tea.

Here's some advice to potential writers:

1. Show, not tell.

2. If it's not working don't force it.

3. Think out of the bloody box!!!!

This is a story of two broken people coming together.
Roman is a rough round the edges, tattooed, biker who belongs to a racist biker gang.

Sora is a high society battered wife who runs away to the hick town Clear water.

Sora and Roman meet in a bar and sparks fly. They fall in love but as you'd imagine with both of them having a haunted past, it catches up with them.

This is a great first effort by the author. Couple of issues:
1- for an abused woman, Sora allowed the relationship to proceed very quickly and wasn't as skittish around men as you'd expect given her history
2- I'll never understand why some authors love the racist turned redeemed hero trope. A white supremacist to me is just such an unattractive choice for a hero. I didn't feel Roman was ever redeemed in my view and the racism subject was dealt with very quickly and brushed aside.

All in all, 4 stars

One of my favorite tropes. I really enjoyed this one. For once, the female character wasn't a complete ditz. Sora was a very relatable character, and Roman was awesome. Both were fleshed out, three dimensional characters and the story telling was on point.

Roman and Sora meet when Roman's biker club goes into the bar where she works/sings. Roman is immediately attracted to her, and the fact that his club does not mix with black people is secondary to what he's feeling for Sora. Initially, it's just physical but it grows into something more, and I enjoyed the journey. With Sora's abusive ex on the hunt for her, Sora struggles with trusting Roman and he eventually has to let the 'beast' out to protect her. All in all it was a great read that kept me interested until the end.

In terms of improvement, as others have mentioned the editing needs a lot of work. The spelling and grammatical errors, and misplaced words, kept pulling me out of the story. The random switching of tenses - past and present - was distracting as well. Also I think first person narration tends to take away from books in the romance genre, especially the good girl/bad boy type trope. It makes the characters seem a bit overly dramatic.

In terms of the storyline, I always feel some type of way when authors demonize a black male character to put the female character with a white guy, especially a white nationalist/supremacist. I know there are crappy men of all races, and anyone dating outside their race has probably dated a few jerks within their own race first, but it still sits the wrong way with me since the black ex is always extra evil.

Even though I really liked Sora, the ending took away from her smarts because the illegal activities of the club are never discussed. She confronts Roman about the racism, but what about all the other stuff Wyatt mentioned? I kind of wanted Roman to make it clear what they were asking him to do, and that he went against them.

Having said all that, this is a really, really good first effort by this author. It is a hefty book, not a little novella; the characters are fully developed and three dimensional and the epilogue made me smile. I can't wait to read Chase/Jada's story!

Recommended. 4 full stars.

Great Read from a new author

I enjoyed the book from this author intrigued to see what she has in store for the series. Can't wait to read more by this author.

I liked the story line a lot. Both of the characters had flaws yet they overcame them to be better than what they were for the ones they loved. I wish we had a scene where Sora stood up to her mother and out her in her place.

Happy Reading.

I really can't say why I read this book. Maybe I was bored and wanted to spice up my selections a bit. Whatever the reason, I finished the book with only mild feelings. It was OK, just OK. I had to restrain myself from yelling expletives about all the grammar/ usage errors. At times I seriously wondered if English was the author's first language. The plot was very Tyler Perry-ish. If you've ever seen any of his movies or plays, then you know what I'm talking about. That's not my forte either. I think the thing I'm just mainly sick of is heroines who are being stalked by someone they know is violent and they are still just running around living life without any means to protect themselves. *SIGH* I digress. Read at your own risk.

Read on Kindle Unlimited and ended up purchasing it.

They say....
Honestly is the best policy.
Every lie you tell digs a deeper grave for yourself.
Sometimes secrets end up overflowing out of the closet.

A book based on hope, self-acceptance, abuse and love. I wanted to read Broken after reading the description of the book. I cannot wait for book two. Nicely done, Camille.

Beautifully pieced together

For a first time IR writer..Camille really did well with the storyline...a few grammatical errors...didn't take away from the story...Roman and Sora is your most unlikely couple...he's a biker....fighter...scarred and worst of all..the biker gang is a white supremacist gang....Sora is a delicate and abuse tiny thing hiding out from an abusive ex who is rich and powerful....they are both broken and abused but somehow they put each other back together in such a beautiful way...very sensual and erotic without it feeling dirty....all these biker stories somehow come across very rough and gritty...this one is written in a way that makes the brutality background noise...looking forward to Alec and Nikki's story followed by Chase and Had a..surprisingly good...good job

Good Start

There were a few typo's. But my only complaint would be the beginning of this book. The way these characters met was not as smooth to me as it could have been. But the more the story went on the better it got. I would have liked to know what happened to her mother. As well as with her inheritance, did they buy a new house and how did he feel about her having money. I can't wait to read the next couples story

Loved It!!

This was a great story and the alpha male wasn't a billionaire. The storyline did Not drag on and the main characters stayed true to their love and fought for it. So many books you want to get in the book and shake some sense into people this was not that book. It keeps you interested but not gritting your teeth. Thank you this was a good read.

Her first book

For this being her first book, it was pretty good. Enjoyed the storyline but unfortunately the editing threw me off a few times. But like I said, this is her first. Will I read her next book with the other characters that were introduced in this one? More than likely. I liked Sora and Roman and look forward to the others.

Unbroken

I liked it. I was glad it didn't get too much in the racial element and the club was quickly disbanded. Soras mother is an awful person. David got what deserved. I loved Romans alpha male style and I was glad sora dint give up in the end and became unbroken

Great Read

First time Author and I thought her storyline was great. I loved the relationship between two characters. They made each other a stronger and better person. All I can say is her Mom and that's being sarcastic.

I really liked this book. Sora and Roman were like two electrical beings drawn to one another. Attraction was instant. This book is about sometimes, you just can't fight fate nor should you ever try. Despite Sora's past, she's able to open her heart and fall in love with the hulking biker dude who is very much in touch with his inner monster apparently. Anyway, this opens the door to some very passionate love scenes and love despite the odds against them. See, Roman is part of a racist biker crew. They do not mix with Black people, but in his heart, he knows he's not down with that. He is determined to love Sora with his whole heart and will do anything to keep her safe from her abusive and powerful ex-boyfriend. A good read!

I love being introduced to new writers and I especially love when the writers themselves seek me out to tell me about their new creation. This is exactly what happened with Ms. Camille Mackenzie. This is sometimes a good thing and sometimes it isn't LOL. But in the case of Broken I am immensely pleased that I was introduced to this young writing ingenue on the rise!!! The story Broken is about a young lady by the name of Sora Matthews who if she were in the real world she possibly may have been damaged beyond all repair. This young lady endured so much but still had the strength of will to breakaway from the negative forces surrounding her. Her mother was one for the ages. Who is jealous of their own seed you ask?? Well Sora Matthews' mother is the person you should envision when it's time to find the answer to that question. The man who was supposed to be her protector and helpmate instead was her tormentor and biggest threat to her sanity. So if all of that was going on in the story how can I say I enjoyed it?? Well, I will tell you how it's a 5 letter name that even now causes my heart to skip a beat and a cold sweat to spread across my brow. R-O-M-A-N!!!!! This dominant alpha male does not come without his own set of demons but upon hearing the melodic sounds of Sora an emotional connection was established that could NOT be severed under any circumstances. I don't want to give the storyline away because truly I can't do it justice. Ms. Mackenzie created a world and characters that will leave you begging for more the moment you get to the last page. This is one author that is firmly on my horizon and I will continue to follow and anxiously await what she has in store for her audience next. KUDOS Ms. Camille Mackenzie. Great start out of the gate!!!! With a talent like yours I don't foresee an end in sight anytime soon!!!

This is a brand new author that I had the pleasure of reading via Kindle Unlimited. Since this is her first book, there were typos but not too many that caused distraction. At parts the transition between POV story telling were confusing but the pace of the story and my need to know what would happen next overrode any quibbles I had.

I really liked Sora. I loved her growing into who she should be. It was like watching a flower bloom. I absolutely loved the hero, Roman. I loved his flaws and how he overcame anything and everything to obtain true love. I actually think the story could have been longer or rewritten to show instead of tell his back story as romance novels usually have dual-protagonists and I feel like Roman's back story wasn't explored as much as Sora's, but given the plot it made sense.

I can't wait for the next installment in this series and see how much better everything will be. I do hope that the protagonists from this book make cameos or are at least side characters in the next story.

Writing is a very hard thing to do. A craft that takes time to perfect. I have to say this author is making good headway at perfecting her craft should she continue to improve.

I just finished reading the book and it is beautiful! It made me cry so tender and poignant. I loved this book. It touches on illness-diabetes and issues of domestic violence very realistically and shows that you should never be afraid to love yourself first and save yourself. I really like that the story starts out very unconventionally and the characters are wary but open to love. The love story between Sora and Roman - two people from broken worlds who save each other is unbelievably touching. I also like that Sora has real world issues such as diabetes and being a domestic abuse survivor and that she does not wait for someone to rescue her she rescues herself. All of the scars of her past are handled realistically without making her a weakling and I love the way she develops into a strong woman right before our eyes!

This was my first read by Camille Mackenzie, well actually she is a new author. ((clapping my hands)) Camille you did your thing on Broken.

Sora a loving women who just want to find herself again and be loved especially by her mother.
Roman a strong man who never thought he could love, however when he enters the bar and lock eyes on Sora everything changes and I mean everything. Being involved in a brotherhood who he thought stood for good; Roman realize that everything they stand for is not what he believe in. But once your in your in, will he have to give up the only women he ever loved or risk putting her in danger?

This was a great story of love, battle of the mind, racial discrimination and hope.

I can't wait to see what Camille has in store for us next.

Beautiful Love Story!

I utterly loved loved this story. How true and beautiful their love was, wow! Roman and Sora, or Doll as he affectionately called her. Their love was just so very sweet and timeless to me. It wasn't filled with the stereotypical misunderstood love. Sora knew he loved her and vice a versa even if he felt undeserving. I must admit I was a bit scared there for a while as I wondered how the author would logically deal with Chase leaving the club. Ooh and Chase, you got 'some splaining to do' Chase does need to be redeemed a bit in my eyes for some of his actions in the book. There were a few typos but nothing to take away from the power of the book.

Had potential

This story had real potential. I loved both Roman and Sora. They had that insta-love but it was handled well and their story progressed at a good speed. As other reviewers said, the story with the motorcycle club was a bit awkward. What put me off was the editing. The editing was horrible. Misspelled words and words that don't exist. Spotty punctuation and the switch between past and present tense within paragraphs. It made it really hard to stay connected and engrossed in the story. I really would like to read future books in the series. I'm just hoping that they don't have the same editing issues.

Pleasant!!!

This is the first book by this author and it was a good read . This is Roman and Sora's story and shows the struggles they went through. Sora is from a privileged background but was beaten by her fiance and was unloved by her self-centered mother. Roman's background is the complete opposite. He was the son of a drug addicted prostitute and suffered violence from his mother's clients.

His path took him through membership in a violent motorcycle club . She was running from her past When they met, it was not foreseeable that they would hit it off, but love knows no bounds . I love the characters and she can only get better as time goes by.
