About the author

Born as the fourth child of Don and Dot Kelso. I attended Lakeland Christian School and The Evangelical Free Church until age 18.

I always wanted to be a teacher, so after I graduated with an education degree from Cedarville University, OH, I taught in Detroit, MI, and West Palm Beach, FL.

Once I earned a MA in English from Florida Atlantic University, I taught at Cairn University, PA and Somerset Christian College, NJ.

I married Mace Loock in 1991. We have two adult children.

I retired from teaching to pursue a writing career in 2007. My first book was published in 2010.

Currently, I work as a book editor for Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas and as a staff writer and editor for The Journey Christian Newspaper.

Introduction to some new hymns

When I picked this book, I thought I was familiar with most church hymns. I was wrong for it introduced me to many new hymns. I wish it had come with a recording so that I could hear the music and learn the songs .

This book wasn't quite what I expected. It was good, just not what I expected from the title. I was thinking it was going to be about the stories behind the hymns and how/where the author pulled from Scripture or was influenced by Scripture in creating the hymn.

What it is is a devotion that includes a hymn relevant to the devotion itself. I most enjoyed the ones where I knew the hymn. I always find it more difficult when I don't know the tune to a song even when lyrics are printed.

A great Devotion book!!

So many of our hymns take you to the foundation of our faith. Will re open this book many times to lear more about the authors of the hymns and how God used them to draw us closer to Him.

I only knew about half the hymns in this book & so it took me a bit longer to get into it, especially as I had a lot of unknown ones altogether at the beginning, but I still ended up enjoying it.

As with the first 'Open Your Hymnal' devotional book, I really liked how the author combined Scripture and Hymns to provide encouragement in our daily walk. Most of the hymns in this second book were at least somewhat familiar to me, but I enjoyed learning from the lyrics of hymns that were not (then) ones I'd heard.
