"You have to dethrone a powerful man to become the most powerful. I was itching to defeat the single most powerful person, but there wasn't any. I was left with only one choice — to create one."
Little does Ashwin Jamwal know that the last twenty-five years of his life have been controlled by a master manipulator, who wanted to make him the most powerful man on earth, though for a reason! Ashwin steps up to take oath as the youngest Prime Minister of India and is unknowingly thrown into a vortex of power and authority as the entire world is threatened by a faceless enemy — Hades.
The world starts to look up to Ashwin as the savior, but he was just a pawn, reared only to be sacrificed in the end.
A story of greed, lies, deceptions, manipulations and corruption, Ashvamedha is a thriller revolving around the infamous game of power in a maddening bid to seek absolute control.
5 stars because what a ride! Ashvamedha was a book full if twists, turns and surprises. It starts of with this
"I have manipulated truth Veiled it, snubbed it I didn't let you see it I propagated a lie Enforced it, inducted it And you believed in it"
Which really had me intrigued about what I was gonna get with this book. Because the when the beginning is strong, you start to expect a lot. These little disconnected stories that I began reading page after page made me wonder about the actual plot reveal. And I couldn't have guessed the ending! First, let's talk about the various characters we see, Ashwin Jamwal, our righteous protagonist who's willing to bend a few rules for the greater good. There are corrupt politicians, mean businessmen, a bigger threat Hades and then some other characters that we only see a little. But what I found was, not one of these characters seemed unrealistic, they were all pretty believable. Now for the writing style, apart from the whole portion in the beginning, I didn't see any line or paragraph that really impacted me but it was still quite easy to comprehend and enjoy because you're so into the story and where it is heading. A real page-turner this one. And the plot! From kidnappings to faking death to assassination to terrorism to politics, and even a bit of romance and family drama, this book had it all. And I loved it. I received a free book in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion.
A story of desire for power, corruption, lies and hidden truth, Ashvamedha is the perfect diet for a still mind in a lazy afternoon. The book unwraps the dirty side of the politics that links the high profile ministers to the local goons who do whatever necessary to stop an honest officer from doing his work.
Descriptive at its best, the book is well-written, informative, well-researched and interesting. As the story unfolds, the reader shall deal with his/her own set of "oh", "wow" and "eeks".
Ratings- 3.5 out of 5 stars
The book might seem a little bit boring while the talk of foreign ministers on terrorism goes on, as it seems as an hindrance for the eager reader to read the climax, still its important for the execution of the plot so that relevation may not seem obvious and done to end the book.
The entire book is well written though the ending is a bit predictable for an avid reader. All in all, the author has done a wonderful job as giving a well-written thriller is not child's play.
Thrilling... After a very longtime I got a book which made me put down my phone/tablet and made me turn pages at fast pace to reach climax!! Absolutely amazing debut by the author. This book doesn't disappoint in any regard. Twists and turns keep coming at regular intervals to kee you engage... I am already looking forward to next book of the author!!

Final Rating- 4/5
All in all, Ashvamedha The Game of Power is mixture of amazing storytelling skill, gripping plot with strong characters. I would recommend this book to all the thriller especially Political Thriller readers
The protagonist, Ashwin Jamwal, is an honest IAS officer. His honesty and his dream to bring a change leads to him transferring to other cities. He then realizes that he would have to think of innovative measures to do good. He succeeds in his technique until he gets screwed to an extent that he has to resign. He then joins Politics and becomes quite successful.
The premise of the book that in order to become the most powerful person on Earth, you need to create a “most” powerful person and then defeat that person, is what attracted me to read that book.
I really loved this book. It came to me as unexpected surprise. the drama, the characterization, keeps you hooked. Amazing read, doesn't look like a debut book. A job well done!
Excellent book! Kudos to the author. Amazing story with well written characters. An entertaining piece to read. It kept me hooked! Look forward to more of such pieces
Ashvamedha : The Game of Power by Aparna Sinha is an epoch making novel which is a mixture of romance, politics followed by gripping plot and mind blowing characters. The use of Stream of Consciousness is perfectly used. I got this copy in return of an honest review. Lets read between the lines :
Cover- The cover of the book is intriguing with bit dark colour scheme followed by the image of the horse. This gives us the glimpse of power as the major subject of this book.
Title- The title is fascinating as the whole story revolves around the power. The subtitle clearly gives us the purpose of this novel and we get a clear picture about the novel.
Blurb- "You have to dethrone a powerful man to become the most powerful.
Plot- The plot is gripping and a page turner. This is a simultaneous story of two people Ashwin Jamwal and Hades who come together in the end of the novel. The biggest suspense of the novel is revealed in the end when these two come together.
Theme- There are variety of themes in this novel. The theme of dirty politics and corruption is poignant. The author carefully highlights this concept without causing any scandal or hurting anyone's feelings from the political sector. It is a true picture which the author wants to show us.
Further, there is theme of romance between Ashwin Jamwal and Adya. They are true lovers who stay with each other, without any expectations. They got separated to come together when their lives completely change as Ashwin become's the Prime Minister of India.
There is a theme of friendship between Arun and Ashwin. They both are adopted and are inseparable. They stay with each other through thick and thin. Even when Ashwin becomes the Prime Minister he never stops the contact between his best buddy. Both could go to any extend.
Characterisation- The author has artistically constructed her characters and my favourites are Ashwin Jamwal , Arun and Adya. Ashwin Jamwal is the protagonist who is the puppet in the hands of the society. The way he rise to power using his brain and the way others support him is all scripted. He has some aspirations which are fulfilled accordingly. He is a true friend as he is always there to support his best friend,Arun.
Arun is a true confidante of Ashwin Jamwal. Ashwin share everything with him. He can go to any extend to save his friend from this dirty politics of people and solve many of his problems.
Adya is the female protagonist in the story who loves Ashwin Jamwal from the core of her heart. They have a very short sequence at the start or rather say the opening is from Adya's leaving him. It looks like they are not meant for each other. But when they bump into each other in a conference when Adya is the topmost Journalist whereas Ashiwin Jamwal is the Prime Minister of India. Their love blooms at the crucial time when Ashwin is stuck in a national threat by the terrorist named Hades.
Style-The style of writing is elegant and the way the author has used the varied range of sentences starting from simple to complex to compound is just fine. The book starts from a beautiful poem. The other wow factor is the quotes from Yajur Ved which shows author's interest in our roots. Further we find mystery, suspense like elements which makes the book vibrant. The concept of schrizopherania is phantasmagorically highlighted. This book is a perfect instance of a well scripted book which has all the traits of blooming into a successful movie. I wish the best for this book and I hope the directors surely approach the author.
Awesome piece of work by the author. Every character is well curated. Well this book shows the author has a huge potential. Will wait for the sequel to come.
Ashvamedha is one of the best political thrillers that I have read in IWE in recent times.
It is a story with many lines to it. On one hand, we have Ashwin who is honest to a fault. But he soon realizes that being honest and straight in this society will get him nowhere and he will never get anything done. So, he uses not so legal ways to get the right thing done. His fate soon brings him into politics, where he amasses huge power and following. He soon becomes the youngest Prime Minister of India. On the other hand, we have a kidnapping case where a politician and his cohort are taken and killed. Then there is the presence of Hades, an identity in the shadows who seems to be omnipotent and omnipresent. What is his connection to everything and what does he/she want?
The book had me hooked from the word go. The pace picks up right from the word go and struggles a bit in the middle and then picks back up towards the ending. The book has several important characters and the author has done a good job of bringing these characters to life. However, there are a couple of characters whose presence was not required in the story as they did not have much to contribute to it. The plot has a lot of things going on. There are sub plots who importance emerges later in the story. What made this book un-put-down-able was the fact that the author kept giving us information and twists in instalments which kept me going until I turned the last page.
The book is interesting and keeps the suspense going throughout. It was a well-done story that was held back by its editing. For someone like me to notice errors says a lot as my mind normally autocorrects while reading (Yes, it is a thing!). I wish authors would take this stage of publishing more seriously as a polished story is always better than one littered with typos. It takes away from the reading experience as well.
The virtue of internet or rather Amazon to be more specific is that you find such gems accidentally. What a fantabulous find. The entire plot has been played out beautifully and you can see that lot of thought has gone into the process. Each segment of the plot, all the characters, every sigle element of intrigue and mystery has been written to showcase the brilliance of a good book. The plot is absolutely gripping and will keep your attention engaged till the very end. What is authentic about this book is the touch of Indian culture through the quotes that have been used at the start of each section of the book. The entire categorization of the book makes sense and each character that has been introduced in the book play well with the whole theme of dark and dirty politics. Each and every element of the book is perfevtly in stnc wih each other.
What appealed to me specifically would be the clever cover image of a pawn and the dark horse which is a brilliant pictorisation of the plot and its various multitude of themes.
My opinion:
An absolutely fantastic read that I am going to rave about for a very long time.
My rating: 5 out of 5
Favourite quote:
The position and the power to control changes an individual's behaviour and outlook and he may end up doing the same things he protested against once.
Politics is such a bitch, it gives you pleasure, but takes away all you have.
I just wanted to be the ruler of the world. You have todethrone a powerful man to be the most powerful. The ironies if the world. I was itching to defeat the single most powerful person and there wasn't any. I was left with i ly one choice - To create a powerful person.
Ashvamedha is a political thriller which is penned down by Aparna Sinha.
Sinha with her debut novel serves us a tale of power with intense character and blockbuster storyline. This book has every element which can make you feel like you're watching a movie.
Book Title and Cover- The Title is interesting and appropriate with the book. It gives us insight about the content. The Cover is not-attractive and could be improved.
The Blurb is short, crisp and interesting
Language and Narration- Writing style of Aparna is easy to follow. Language is simple crisp and easy to comprehend. Narration is done well. Quotes from Yajur Veda and a poem in the book is cherry on the top.
Content and Plot- Plot of the book is fresh and gives you something new to read. Unlike many suspense thriller, this book deals with many social odds.
Storyline is interesting and flows smoothly with twists and turns throughout the book.
With unpredictable ending and engaging subplots, story keeps moving smoothly with good pace. However some readers can need time to get adjust with the pace and storyline but after that story flows smoothly till the end.
Along with thriller there is love angle between our characters which is written beautifully. Friendship between Ashwin and Arun is touching and was fun to read.
THE STORY: Interesting, intriguing and one that has the power to make even the disinterested sit up. The book is in every sense a page-turner. There is romance, there is politics. There is greed, there is deceit. There are lies, there are sacrifices.
One can easily relate to the story given that day-in-day-out we see the dirty game of politics being enacted in front of our eyes. Leaders are propped up only to be discarded once they outlive their utility. The system is so weak that it is easy for the corrupt to manipulate it to throw out the honest. Money and muscle power play a big role in winning elections.
There are twists and there are turns that one fails to foresee, but the icing in the cake is the climax.
CHARACTERIZATION: The characters are well-developed with all their virtues and vices. One can easily relate to each one of them, their thought process, their actions and their reactions. In fact one can catch a glimpse of some of our present day politicians in them. They are real.
LANGUAGE: Simple, crisp and lucid. No jargon to take away the taste, nor notable errors that act as road blocks.
PACE: Perfect. The flow is smooth right from the word ‘go,’ till the end thus making the book an untiring read.
After finishing the book I literally kept it and kept staring at the cover page. What a book! I don’t generally read suspense, but this is sheer brilliance!
Starting with the cover – the cover shows a horse which shows power and vigour. It gives you an insight about the book- which is politics. It Is also rather dark and intriguing.
Plot- it is a thriller. Giving you goosebumps at the end. What if you get to know your whole life has been plotted by someone else, and all that you are crediting to your hardwork is just not there. It also tells us a lot about the polictics that goes inside. The greed-killing and power at its best. There is romance and power of friendship also depicting.
This book is a page turner. With few characters having important role in the plot. It shows the trouble one goes through. Ashwin is the lead in the book working his way to make changes in the government. But what happens when a faceless man hades is behind to destroy the world. What happens when they will face each other? Vocabulary is intense. A page turner. Elaborated scenes.
It is a masterpiece. I recommend it to all the readers- 4/5.
Well, this book drew my attention in New Delhi International Airport, with the signature of the author herself. Aparna keeps it balanced, describing only things which are required and backgrounds are where they should be. As a reader, although I was entangled with lots of characters back to back, but this political psycho thriller leaves no stones unturned in linking the characters, each one of them. A fictional novella that leaves you in a non fictional mind state at the end, with a question, am I Hades?
Sequel is what, not required...The beauty lies in the end, that keeps the reader guessing....and believe me, you are not gonna understand the plot or conclusion by reading from last page.
Ashvamedha, a novel by Aparna Sinha, is published by Srishti Publishers. The cover shows a horse from the chess board and a shadow of the real horse. The animal represents power and vigour, and resonates well with the subtitle of the book – The Game of Power. Instances of dirty politics and corruption are spilled over in the book. The romance between Ashwin Jamwal and Adya is another highlight of the book. So is the friendship between Arun and Ashwin. The two friends, Arun and Ashwin are both adopted and inseparable. I am happy to see good reviews at Amazon about the book. Glad that many people are trying thriller genre. It is my favorite genre and I normally pick all the books, Ashvamwdha is a good book. Thriller in true sense. Ending was superb! As a thriller nerd, towards the end guessed the climax, but that doesn't take credit off the book. Wonderfully woven story. It will keep you glued till the last page.
Excellent, page turner! I am not qualified to write a raving review that makes you want to read this book. I Really enjoyed reading this book. One of the most challenging books I have read in a long time while staying entertaining all the way through.
Here’s my review for the book named Ashvamedha – The Game of Power written by Aparna Sinha and published by Srishti Publishers & Distributors. Actually the book was recommended by one of my Facebook friends and got it at a good price from Amazon.
The book’s cover is interesting that is featuring one horse and a knight of chess. On the back there’s synopsis of the book and a short introduction by the author. The 214 page book is a political thriller and the story does complete justice to the title.
Basically the story revolves around a protagonist named Ashwin Jamwal. He is a man with leadership qualities and willingness to change the country for its betterment, but is reluctant to join the political arena. He meets Indra Mohan Raathi in his college days who ask Ashwin to join his newly founded Nationalist Party, which, according to him is aimed to clean politics and to take India on the path of real development. He is not even thinking to accept the call at that time and goes to join the bureaucracy after completing his studies. While fulfilling his duty as a dignified and honest bureaucrat he is squeezed from all sides including political and social. At the end he gives up his job and decides to join politics as he thinks that the ultimate control is in the hands of politicians and nothing can be changed unless the politics of the nation is forced to change.
Initial part of the book mentions about a plane crash, murder of two characters named Ashish Kumar Nandi and Sumona Thandi but these incidents are not finding proper relevance in the main story. There’s also a conversation between Ashwin and Prateek (who’s Sumona’s brother) but then that is also looking like a short story without much reference to it in the later part of the book.
Author’s story telling fast paced and not at all boring. Besides I.M. Raathi and Ashwin Jamwal, there are characters like Suresh Armugham (secretary of Nationalist Party), Adya (girlfriend of Ashwin), Arun (Ashwin’s best friend), Tahir Naqui (National Security Advisor), etc. These characters are very important in the whole story of how someone becomes the most powerful man on the earth. However, between all these names, one name that appears again and again is Hades. Hades is a faceless person.
The story is about hunger of power and desire to rule the world. It touches different parts of human emotions and relations. The Author has covered a wide range of aspects of domestic and international politics. It was interesting to read how realistic the storyline was when it comes to terrorism and international commitment to fight against it. Can the powerful nations come to the same page when the question is about saving three fourth of the world’s populations from the biggest terror attack ever? The story is about one man’s desire to be the most powerful person on the earth, but to become so, he has to dethrone someone who’s already so and to do that he has to make someone the most powerful man. In simple words, it’s a story about creating a power center in to occupy it and become powerful. The story is really gripping and makes the read enthralling.
I found only two disappointing things in the book. One of them is, some initial parts of the story are not finding itself linked in the later part of the book, and rather they are irrelevant to the main plot. Second, the climax of the story is a bit too unrealistic, even if I consider the book as fiction one. At times the story moves too fast and looks oversimplified considering that main plot of the book is about politics.
To conclude, I will give this book 4 stars out of 5. Considering that this is by a new author, I will appreciate the attempt.
Ashwamedha, the Game of power, is an outstanding thriller work by Aparna Sinha with lots of Twists and Turns within the story. First of all its overall a nice read and really worth of ua time and money. Normally in usual thriller works, lots of characters come up within the story and makes u a lot of confusing. But this story has really succeeded in limiting characters as well as crafting the characters in a well and perfect manner. Coming to the plot, its extra ordinary. Its really a blend of different elements such as politics, friendship, love, lies and even Corruption. The story begins with the life of a business woman Sumona, who had captured d business empire through different unfair practices with the help of A fraud union minister Named Ashok Kumar where sumona commits suicide after transferring all her properties to her brother whereas Ashok gets kidnapped by Someone. The reason as well as the real culprits behind this get revelead by the author in further read which makes the readers more enthralled. As well as the story talks about the story portraits the Life of ashok Jamwal, a honest IAS officer who always wanted to reach at top and conquer many heights by defeating all the struggles and disputes which arises as an obstacle in his way. From his struggle and sacrifices he finally manages to becum PM. But at some point of the story, destiny takes him to another direction where his life changes wholly, by joining in a national political party. The aim behind his joining in political party remains a suspense and this also gets revealed at some part of the story. To know that , you have to read on the book. There are a few more characters like Arumughan, Raathi, Inder Mohan, Hawad who plays a mysterious role in the life of Ashwin and Ashok. Positive Aspects:- * Simple and Nice Read * Fast pace and Easy language * Characters are well Crafted and Title remains apt to the story Negative Aspects:- * Story could have been much more better including a few more suspenses.
Ashvamedha: The Game of Power by Aparna Sinha. I read my first political thriller genre. it's not like a debutant author work. every character and scenes like a realistic one. we can see many things in the novel which happened and happening in our real life. The characterizations are quite good. The plot speaks of Ashwin Jamwal and the journey in the land where everyone after one thing - "POWER". The central theme feasts upon the drive for power and a puzzle of dirty politics. The narration is fast paced and the story is weaved perfectly. I loved the ending. There is an element of surprise till the last paragraph! It keeps you guessing from the beginning until the end as to who the real culprit is and when you get to know it, you would be stunned for sure. I can guarantee you will not be bored! Once you have picked the book you will finish it.
Ashvamedha is a good read for all those who loved to read suspense political thriller.i am waiting for ur next novel.
First of all, a huge thanks to Aparna Sinha, the author of Ashvamedha-The Game of Power for going through the tiresome task of gifting me a copy of this book. I truly appreciate her humbleness. Now, about the book. This book was Enchanting! A true political thriller to the core. The book starts with a scene of village where a mysterious helicopter crash occurs and the people travelling inside it are thought to be dead. But the author serves delicious twists and turns to prove the reader's guessings to be wrong! Ashvamedha has Ashwin Jamval as its protagonist who belives in the proverb that Honest is the best policy. An IAS officer by occupation, he is determined enough to change the degrading political system of the country. The task is difficult, but not impossible. Bending a few rules for greater good is a pious deed! We come to witness a romantic relationship between Ashwin and Adya. Emotions and feelings appear to radiate out throughout the book. Hades, the villain appears throughout the book and we get insights into his ambitions. I loved his character. And the end! It will leave you sppechless. It will demolish your every guess. I am sure one will love the ending of the novel. Over all, the novel was very fast-paced. I didn't get bored for a second. The plot was realistic and the characters were appealing. It was a roller coaster ride of twists and turns and kept thrilling thoroughly. If you are in need of some fresh and addictive storyline with logical and uncoventional approach, simple language and thunderous ending, Ashvamedha must me your immediate choice. Looking for more from the author.
Good read !!! Wow climax, would have loved lot more details, here and there, everywhere in fact. Character build-up could also may have been bit more elaborate.
Neverthless, a great read, enjoyed thoroughly. Crisp and Fast Paced.
You can't guess the climax. Oki I couldn't guess 😊 Beautifully written and was a fast read. Just like Indian movies, one in fifty books are very well written and retains the faith in Indian author's. There is so much to relate with current politics in India and being a Modi bakth, I easily replaced Ashwin name with NAMO 😁
To summarise the Book I have 3 words "Perfect Fictional Novel".
This Novel provides an entry to the world of Indian Politics (its deceptions, manipulations and most importantly corruption)
The Novel plot is based by the Conversation among the Ashwin Jamwal and other party members after the airing of news of "Death of Union Minister Ashok Kumar Nandi".
The main character of the story is Ashwin Jamwal, Deputy Collector (IAS) turned Politician, the one who wanted to utilise his position and power for the benefit of the people. About him from the Novel, "His aim was not to be powerful l, but to be right. Always" The novel talks about How he is able to make it to the Top most position of Indian Politics and How he survives during the course of his journey and even after that.
The tale is full of twists and turns as we progress with the Story.
The Novel in many way presents Today's Society issues like Corrupt Political System and Hunger for Power for Every Politician..including the ones who are there for a change.. special mention #Mr. Kejriwal ji
Favorite Moments: #Ashwin becoming the Youngest Prime Minister of India. #Strategies used by Everyone. Everyone was playing each other. (I.M. Raathi especially) #Ashwin & Adya's Love Story
Heart-Breaking Moment: #When Adya left with her family to move to Alberta, Canada. #Death of Suresh Armughan Because of Heart Attack.
I would like to conclude by saying that "Ashvamedha The Game of Power" is an amazing novel and is a sure way to have a sneak peek in True Indian Politics.. I want to quote few lines from the Book!
"There can never be clean politics. Ethical politics is a myth and clean governance is a chimerical dream. Ethics in politics are meant only for parliamentary speeches and election slogans. Power corrupts! And politics is meant for power."
Looking forward to read your other literary works.
A story of power, betrayal and thirst to succeed is what drew me in towards this book. The powerful opening lines pricked my skin and I was once again faced with the realities of daily life and moral dilemmas. When fiction is mixed with naked truth, a masterpiece is created. Ashvamedha by Aparna Sinha does not fail to deliver when it comes to the plot and theme.
Ashwin Jamwal, a politician with his heart at the right place is a hero that all of us readers can swoon over. He can bend a few rules and grease a few palms to do the right thing for the general public. Ashwin seems to be the only candidate suitable to lead the country. But amidst this upwards journey of life, one wonders if he is being played upon?
“You have to dethrone a powerful man to become the most powerful. I was itching to defeat the single most powerful person, but there wasn’t any. I was left with only one choice- to create one.”
The story is full of thrilling action, murderous crimes, blatant corruption and a mysterious man, Hades that forces you to turn the page. The characters are well developed and interesting. There is a hint of suspense and drawing throughout the book and it leaves you wanting to know more. The twist at the end is quite catchy and satiates a book lover’s mind.
However, it took me a while to grasp the incidents in the beginning of the book and it was after 30-40 pages that I got entirely interested in the book. The dialogues were slightly amiss, they lacked the punch and flavour that you would normally expect in a political thriller. It was a tad bit monotonous and had there been a more power-packed conversation the book would have been an even better read.
What a book man, Really amazing, i am surprised, dumbstruck, could feel the goosebumps in last few chapters.
Never saw any of it coming, story is well narrated, plots are well hidden and gives a deep insight into Indian politics. A big applause of the author Aparna Sinha as she did a fantastic job in her first book.
when the story was nearing its final chapters, i had a theory about what would be the final twist, but what i got truly surprised me and i loved it. Any other ending would not have done justice to this beautiful story.
Thanks to the Author for giving us such a great story, waiting for your future books.
