Fatal Affair: 4-Stars 10/12/23 - I have tried to ignore the ways this book is so like the In Death series. It's just not possible to do that. I stand by my original review. But I must say that the plot was good, and I really liked the characters. I still can't believe that both Sam and Nick never bothered to seek out the other in six years.
11/24/19 - I saw a lot of similarities between Sam and Nick with Eve and Roarke from Nora Robert's In Death series. This book was in no way as good as any book in the In Death Series. The romance was hot, but not very believable, although I thought that the attraction still being there after six years was very sexy. The mystery/suspense elements, well, I just didn't buy it from the very beginning and the more I learned about the victim, the less I liked him. Everyone loved him, but he was a real SOB.
Sam Holland, a Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant, needs this case of a murdered US Senator to help rebuild her reputation. When Sam finds a one night stand she had six years ago, Nick Cappuano, found the body and is the Chief of Staff, and best friend, of the murder victim, Senator John O'Connor, things could get dicey. Nick insists on being part of the investigation, especially when Nick learns that Sam never got the messages he left after their night together and he finds that the attraction, for both of them, is just as hot now as six years ago. Trying to keep this investigation professional proves to be impossible.
Fatal Justice: 4-Stars 11/21/2023 - This was a hot issue filled book. It pushed a lot of my buttons and not in a good way. Sam and Nick continue to channel Eve and Roarke and not in a good way. The mystery was a tough one for Sam to solve, made more difficult because Sam and Nick are under constant surveillance by the press.
Just weeks after solving the murder of Nick's best friend, Sam Holland is now tasked with solving the murder of Julian Sinclair, a Supreme Court nominee and good friend of Nick's. Julian was a controversial nominee, and his left leaning politics were a definitely motive to be considered. She also comes upon information that points to the shooter in her father's case and wants nothing more than to follow that lead.
Nick Cappuano is trying to find his way as the new Senator from Virginia and the senior senator is not making it easy on him. He is devastated when his friend, Julian Sinclair, is murdered and even more devastated when it appears that Sam is not on board with his left leaning politics. Just when you think you know someone. He has even more problems to deal with when the leaders of the Virginia Democratic Party tell him they want his to run for the Senate seat on his own. Nick had promised Sam he would finish the current term of one year and be done.
Fatal Consequences: 4-Stars Riveting and suspenseful. Sam and Nick are caught up in a mega scandal and this time it isn't about them. The baddies are all high-ranking government or closely related to the government bigwigs. I loved how Sam was tenacious and wouldn't let herself be intimated. I also loved how Nick loves her and supports her throughout the case.
Two women who clean the offices in the Hart Building are brutally attacked and murdered. This si the beginning of the unravelling of a complex operation that reaches to the highest places in government. Lt. Sam Holland is right in the action, ferreting out the darkest secrets of the Washington elite and tracking down a killer.
I like Marie Force, great characters, strong, snarky, h, sweet, sexy H along with great supporting characters. Danger, murder, mystery, family, passion and love. I think they are great reads but if the entire series continues to rehash all of the books before them as these books did then I wouldn't want to keep reading them. It is too much repetition.
An excellent romance/suspense/police series. Lots of steamy sex scenes and a good back story that is ongoing and heavily sprinkled with US politics. Confronting and dramatic murder scenes and several points of view. Very entertaining.
FATAL AFFAIR: This book's storyline was good. I loved reading how Sam & Nick met after not reading the series in order. I thought it was gruesome how John died. I kinda felt sorry for John & I kinda felt like he caused his problems on himself. Sam's ex got what he deserved. FATAL JUSTICE: This book storyline was really good. I felt sorry for the victims that got killed in this book, that was a sad reason for them to die. I love the scenes with Sam & Nick. Sam made me laugh. I was sad & happy for Freddie. FATAL CONSEQUENCES: This 3rd book's story line is good but sad. This book had a lot of action. I felt sorry for Sam, Nick, & Jeannie. I loved reading about Sam & Nick's relationship, Freddie & Elin's relationship, & Gonzo & Christina's relationship. I enjoyed all the books in this set.
One Night with You Sam is a DC cop just promoted to detective. Her father was a bigwig in the force and I loved their relationship. Sam was such a workaholic and didn’t take much time to herself. Sam’s older sister shamed her into going to a party with her as there was a guy that she wanted to see. I loved that she thought there was no chance she would have a good time. She sure changed her mind when she met Nick. He was like no other man she had ever been with. I hated that Nick was going to be gone for four weeks, but he did promise to call when he got back. You need to read this book first before Fatal Affair.
Fatal Affair This book takes place six years after One Night with You. Samantha or Sam had married and divorced Peter. Nick and Sam both found out that Nick called her, but Peter never gave her the message. The two meet again at a worse possible time when John, Nick’s best friend and US Senator was murdered. This case threw Sam and Nick together since Nick knew John best, and Sam was able to get a lot of information to help the case through Nick. I can’t ever imagine being a police officer with seeing what ugly and heartbreaking scenes Sam had to see. The love story between the two was both heartbreaking at times as well as heartwarming. This story was so suspenseful at times, and Ms. Force led me on a merry chase to figure out who the murderer was. I strongly encourage you to read the book.
Fatal Justice Sam and Nick’s story continues. I felt so bad for Sam as I felt she wanted to move in with Nick, but her past would not let her trust herself for a while. I was so glad they continued to see each other and admitted they loved each other. It broke my heart that another of Nick and Graham O’Conners friend was murdered. I understood why Nick was so broken after all that had happened. Nick’s popularity was off the charts so the Democratic Committee was very happy with him. Now Sam had another high profile case to solve while her ex lieutenant was out to get Sam. He was a man no one liked. This case had so many twists and turns that kept me on my toes. Poor Sam went through so much more physical problems in this book. There were also some heartbreaking actions taken by someone you would never expect. I became more convinced that Sam and Nick were made for each other. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it.
Fatal Consequences I loved watching Sam and Nick become even closer. They were learning they could depend on each other and needed each other. Sam caught another high profile case, I hated seeing the poor immigrant maids become the target of power hungry people who thought they would never get caught. It always amazes me how Sam can start with a case that has few clues, but can work different angles to follow other clues. Poor Sam was targeted again by the bad guys. I hated seeing everything she had to go through, but loved how all the officers would do anything for her. It was very shocking to see all the high profile people that were involved in this case. I once again loved the book, and strongly encourage you to read it.
I highly recommend you first read the novella: One Night With You. Book one: Fatal Affair introduces the main characters of an almost fifteen book series. Detective Sam Holland is called to a homicide scene and is greeted by Nick Cappuano (they met six years ago in the novella). Nick is inside his boss and best friends residence Senator John O’Connor who has been murdered. We are introduced to the cops that surround Sam. Including her dad in a wheelchair, her two sisters and her ex-husband Peter (boo hiss). Those in Nick’s political world, Christina and the O’Connor family plus his father. At the end of this book Sam and Nick declare their love and agree that Nick should take over John’s last year being a Senator.
Book two: Fatal Justice. Nick is sworn in as a US Senator. He buys a house right down the street from her father so she can be near him. Sam is promoted to Lieutenant. The murder is a Supreme Court Judge nominee who is friends with Nick and the O’Connors. Nicks friend Harry is a doctor treating Sam’s upset stomach. Freddie has a crush on Elin we just met, Gonzo is seeing Christina one of Nick’s people. We finish with an engagement. I’m pretty sure Sam has been in the hospital every book. I am still waiting for Dr. Anderson to get a book himself.
Book three: Fatal Consequences. Begins with a wedding, Sam’s dad and Celia on Valentine’s Day with red and pink everywhere. Nick and Sam decide Nick should run for this senate seat he has for one year. The first murder is of a janitorial staff that was having an affair with a senator. Then another. Detective Jeannie McBride goes missing for twelve hours and is found beat up. These murders and the people involved go all the way up the political food chain. Nick is even asked by senators to call his wife off the hunt. Yes, we know how that goes! Gonzo gets a big surprise pulling Christina in with him. A very sad thing happens to Sam 😢. Scotty is introduced along with Shelby, aka Tinkerbell who plans the wedding.
You can’t help but love and be totally drawn into this series. I am actually rereading them.
I took longer reading this cause I knew once it was done it was done.
Wow- I would give these three books 6 stars.
Intense, mysterious, high emotion, personal, steamy, erotic, romantic, fast, riveting,...
I love the dynamic between Sam and Nick, long lost lovers that rekindle under horrendous circumstances. They have so much against them (public scrutiny, high pressure, intense, stressful, demanding jobs, 24/7 commitment due to their work, high level responsibility, media attention and poor scheduling not to mention enemies, and many people- wolves in sheep 🐑 clothing). There relationship isn't the easiest at all but they are all in, even in the fast pace they've gotten there.
I love he supporting relationships too of Christina and Tommy, Freddie, and Jeannie. Plus her family and his.
I cannot wait to continue reading the other books. I'd read them all in one sitting if I could.
This book has it all, like it's own cop, political drama with murder, romance and heart.
I so wish that Sam could get more of what she wants- a baby. Though I know it would change her job, but maybe there's a way for her to have them both one day. I also hope they adopt Scottie he is a perfect fit.
3/11 (almost 12) books completed ✅ The author did amazing work and although I picked this series up on sale I never would have discovered it before. So glad I did, found a new favourite author.
The only complaint I have is I wish there was more personal point of view for the other supporting characters such as the Dr friend of Nicks, other friends of Nicks (privy to his past), the M.E, and Faith the ausa, plus Terry. I hope to continue reading about the other cops too. And Nicks past- seems there's a little more unsaid there.
Marie Force The Fatal Series Volume 1 is an anthology of four fantastic stories.
Story List: 1. Fatal Affair, Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland teams with Nick Cappuano, the Chief of Staff and good friend of murdered Senator John O'Connor. 2. Fatal justice, Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland is on another murder case for Supreme Court nominee, Julian Sinclair while the romance with Nick Cappuano heats up. 3. Fatal Consequences, Senator Henry Lightfeather, a friend of Nick's is involved with a woman brutally murdered. The investigation turns up more than the murder as Sam faces a problem from her past. 4. Fatal Destiny, Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland and Senator Nick Cappuano are planning a wedding with lots of strife and Sam is facing a dangerous explosive situation. Will she make it to the wedding?
In this anthology all four books are full of danger, romance and interesting murder plots in our nation's capital, Washington, D.C.
After reading The Quantum Series I was happy to find I owned tho# Boxed Set. It’s a shame that it reeks of Harlequin romances and therefore the books were more than tame. I loved Nick but sometimes Sam was almost castrating him. Her stubbornness bothered me and her touches of hypocrisy were annoying. For example...she told Nick she needed some time when it cMe to making the decision to move in with him. He was gracious in his acquiescence. When Nick told same he needed time she just wore him down like Chinese water torture and gave him no space at all. A woman can be strong, self sufficient and more than competent in her life...Sam’s overkill to prove that was almost emasculating to Nick. Harlequin needs to step into this new century...heaving bosoms and throbbing members and euphemisms makes books seem dated.
"The Fatal Series Vol. 1" : 1) Fatal Affair Rated 5★ Loved "getting to know" Sam & Nick! The book was well written, with lots of great twists and turns, both in the case Sam is working, and the relationship between Sam & Nick! I look forward to reading the rest of this series! 2) Fatal Justice Rated 5★ Sam & Nick's relationship heats up while Sam works another twisty case. The book was well written, and I *really* look forward to more! 3) Fatal Consequences Rated 5★ I'm so in love with these books!! Marie Force is an *awesome* storyteller!! Sam & Nick are such a great couple, and the cases Sam keeps getting are crazier and crazier!! I'm *definitely * gonna get the rest of this series as soon as I can!!!
This reminds me so much of JD Robb series with a female detective in the future but this series is with politicians in the present and also a female detective. Both are amazing. I love romance with mystery. Reading “The Fatal Affair”, “Fatal Justice”, and “Fatal Consequences”, takes us into the lives of Samantha who is a Detective and Nick who is a politician. With murder and mayhem and all the circumstances going along with them, makes for a very interesting who done it. Along with all the human emotions of all the people involved. It is just like a family within a family. Need to get going on the next one. Glad I stumbled on this. Just love murder mystery with romance.
Had this anthology for a long time but just getting around to reading it. Love Nick and Sam’s relationship, love how assertive she is, how strong she is. It’s really refreshing to see a strong female lead who is consistently strong and struggles with letting Nick thru that thick armor around her heart, very realistic portrayal. Nick is a sweetie. Probably wish there was a little more romance but the mystery/thriller parts of the story are outstanding and keep me riveted to the stories!
Love these are together i a Volume so no break from reading this fantastic series. I have read a few from this series but never the first few books! So glad I got caught up on when it began. We gotta take care of Stahl for her...Cant wait to make sure I have all of this series on my kindle fire! Such page turners!
This is wonderful fast paced ,keeps you wanting read more.
I sometimes times read a mystery . Was really surprised at how it entertaininig this was. Fast had so much family members as well as how people who really fell about the who they work with every day. Understanding our law enforcement and crime and government crime we don't see.
Wonderfully written series that has you wanting to go through so many pages without even a bathroom break. Sam and Nate are amazing together. This is one of my very favorite series in a long, long time and for a girl that reads all the time, that's saying something! Don't miss out!
Wow is all I can say about the 3 books I read. You can't put them down because you want to know who did it but then you want to know how Lt. Sam and Senator Nick are doing. Now I have to read the rest of the series.
This has to be one of the best box series ever. The characters are awesome, strong and funny. Each story something different happens crime wise with the exception of one. Marie has you on the edge of your seat and keeps you up all night because it is so good.
astonishing!!!! Loved it. wanted to reach thru the Book to throttle the bad people for the cops. even the ex at the end. felt bad for the couple for their heart aches they went thru. Love books with happy endings
All three books are great as standalone novels, but were terrific as a series. Great characters, all of them interesting, flawed and endearing plus some good old fashioned murder mystery crime solving
I thought The fatal Series, books 1-3 were great. They got better with each book I read. The stories were full of crime, drama and passion. I'm looking forward to continuing with the rest of the series.
I started this series on a lark but find that I quite enjoyed it. The series reminds me a little bit of eve and roarke series written by j.d. Robb. I had to buy the following sets so I can binge read it.
Always been a fan of Marie Force's books, hadn't read any recently, until I found the Fatal Series #1-3. Wow Intriguing mystery, suspense and amazing love story that withstands death and tragedy. Can't wait to read more of this series!
ms. force has done it again in grand adventure and thrilling suspense. The Fatal series is addictive and riveting. Highly enjoyable read I could not put down!
