Today I recalled I know and read it long ago. This summarizes my twenty years of what I think about any of such books:
1) "Method" is like a condom. When you need to make some function (now I'm saying this as a programmer), you go and do it, whatever you know , and learn from what you experience in the action and improve upon. You don't first use some "method" to do the primary job. It's like kids learn. They learn from experience and available information, they don't invent "methods" in order to learn. Or, in one sentence: you can do the job with your hands, "method" is like trying to do the job with gloves when in reality you don't need them. As a consequence, all method are useless abstractions that can be created by anyone. I never read what I write, because next day is a bit different.
2) Do "success gurus" teach you what they learned doing other job or talking job? Most of them "teach" success that is applicable nowhere, because based on masturbatory circular logic: "how you know it works?" -> "because I'm millionaire" -> "millionaire from building?" -> "no, I've sold million of my books" -> "then how do you know it works?" WTF, I know so many people who believe this "self-help" religion, that I even can't believe they're so dumb to not understand simple distinction between masters (sh*t sellers) and slaves (sh*t buyers*).
3) Down to Earth, how to unlock "genius" within? Just unlock it. I know how it feels when someone says that, "just do it", but you can realize something only from the experience, not from words, so whatever is said, nothing would help anyway. You can probably read really challenging (not confirming) books that are data driven, but the realization of it into some strong foundation is still random and requires time. Is it method? No, it's just life. What you live is what data you collect. If you collect enough you get some breakthroughs. It's simple distributions summation and averaging game.
* Buying in broad sense. You can buy words from some master about some magic "methods" that will make you a Wizard of oz.
