Though lacking much authentic Welsh blood, Kim Lawrence comes from English-Irish stock. She was born and brought up in North Wales. She returned there when she married, and her sons were both born on Anglesey, an island off the coast. Though not isolated, Anglesey is a little off the beaten track, but lively Dublin, which Kim loves, is only a short ferry ride away. Today they live on the farm her husband was brought up on. Welsh is the first language of many people in this area and Kim's husband and sons are all bilingual she is having a lot of fun, not to mention a few headaches, trying to learn the language! She is a keen gardener and cook and enjoys running often on the beach, as living on an island the sea is never very far away. She is usually accompanied by her Jack Russell, Sprout don't ask, it's long story!

With small children, the unsocial hours of nursing didn't look attractive so encouraged by a husband who thinks she can do anything she sets her mind to, Kim tried her hand at writing. Always a keen Mills & Boon reader, it seemed natural for her to write a romance novel. In 1995, she published her first novels and now she can't imagine doing anything else.

I am giving a book with the hero not being celibate 3 stars and I can't believe it. The hero and heroine have a one night stand. He takes her virginity and then he tries to kick her out in the morning while she was thinking that she met the love of her life. He told her he was married just to get her, or him, out of the room. His wife had died weeks before though due to complications from MS. Since he left that bedroom he has had many relationships with beautiful women and perfectly executed sex (his thoughts, yuk), but she was the best he ever had. And she was pregnant. Oh wonderful! They never exchanged names or anything so she can't tell him. Of course she is filming a commercial on his private island and he wants to meet with her again to have sex, plain and simple. The heroine of course was celibate, she had a hard time during child birth and was not able to have children again (or probably not: wink wink). She is a model and totally down to earth. I actually liked her. I didn't like the hero that much at all. It took me to the end to like him and it was not love, only like. He just was blah to me. They were passionate but I just didn't like him all that well. So why three stars? The heroine was awesome. I loved her little girl too and I wish I had seen more of her and less of him. He was beautiful and I liked how the heroine did try to distance herself but of course she loved him. She loved him after the one night stand. I know that is just crazy but I believed her. The thoughts she had the next morning while watching him sleep in the prologue was very sweet. I felt so bad for her when he told her he was married. She was just in total shock. And then I hear his thoughts about all the women since then and I thought how could he ever remember her. Because she was his only one night stand. Oh wow. I am underwhelmed. After writing this review I am re-thinking my three stars actually. I said three when I finished and that is how I rate them. What I feel when I finish. It did have a great epilogue and of course, Jenny you will love this, with BABIES! So maybe that is why. Just an average book though. Not safe for me however because I am a freak. But not a totally bad one either.

This is an okay read. I thought the heroine was a bit of a cow....and forcing the guy to grovel and grovel....it wasn't all his fault after all....yes, he was an idiot having lied to her in the beginning...why he did made no sense to me...no don't want to give the whole thing away...but really!!!

The best part of the book was the epilogue, which made it up for me.

This is my seventh read by Kim Lawrence. The story opens in a hotel in London in the summer of 2008. Angel (Angelina) Urquart is reminiscing the night she spent with Alex Arlov during the morning after! Yep. He isn't even awake. He had saved her life last night. Alex doesn't have anything to go home to and imagine his surprise when he gets up in a hotel room instead and there she is. And when a ring falls out of his pocket, he lets her believe he's married. Ah! To which, he receives a well-deserved tight slap.

Return to present, where Alex is thirty-two and owner of a shipping empire. And an oil business too inherited one of each from both his great grandfathers. So, yeah, he's uber-rich. Unlike his parents or his uncle, twenty years old Nico wants to intern with an advertising agency and make it on his own. So he requests Alex to let his island, Saronia, be available to the agency he looks forward to join for their latest ad shoot. And he also wants to impress Louise, his love.

Alex, on seeing Angel on the agency's website, and with Nico confirming she was the model for the ad, agrees to every demand of his nephew's, as he thinks it will be good to have a fling with her. Though it is accompanied by guilt for having jumped into bed that night six years ago, only weeks after Emma's death.

With two days of constant rain and delayed schedules, Angel is missing her daughter Jasmine aka Jas from whom she's hundreds of miles away. Her talking to herself is so cute, she has entire conversations with herself and that is so relatable. Cesare Urquart acts like a Neanderthal sometimes, according to his sister Angel. And unknown to him, he had met up with Alex sometime and had even tried to set her up with him. An Italian ex-race car driver? Well sure, Cesare has his own book Captivated by Her Innocence and I'd have loved to read his meeting up with Alex in the present day. That was a bummer. His book released in 2013 while this one was released in 2014.

Emma, his wife, had died of MS. She had hidden her affliction from Alex before their marriage and hence there was quite a bit of guilt going around. Angel, on hearing that his wife was no more, was considering telling him about Jasmine. Though it all was six years too late. This was a very fun story, especially because of Angel's dialogues. Every time they meet he has to save her first.

This was a different kind of read, in which the hero was not a total jerk and the heroine was as strong as you can get in an HP. I would have loved to see more of Jasmine, she's a bright kid and her chittering was something very enjoyable. She was introduced too late in the story. Though it did have a sweet epilogue.

It wasn't badly written, grammar-wise. There aren't glaring typos or anything. The author is competent enough. Just...

It was very bland, I'd say. The 'big secret' hinted at in the title and summary, I guessed before even opening the book. And it's a romance novel so you know it ends up 'happily ever after'. The author just didn't 'sell it' well enough to make the story work despite the predictability.

For characters, there's the typical heroine-sue (this time hailing from Italy and British aristocracy), with long brown hair, golden skin and 'violet' eyes. A model, who eats junk food every time we see her, and never gains a pound.
The male lead (a Greek/Russian millionaire) is kind of an entitled ass at times (really for most of the book) - I didn't find either of them all that interesting or sympathetic. He wasn't awful, but I had no idea what was supposed to be so appealing about him - especially enough to make the heroine's hormones overload her brain so badly that she (literally) couldn't function.
The character's brother keeps coming into conversation as a mutual link between them, but the readers never actually meet the guy, so he should have been pretty much inconsequential - but they brought him up over, and over again in the story. (Maybe the author trying to set up for a future book, with him as the star?)

The dialogue is a bit awkward, and during the 'climax event' near the ending (no, not that kind you gutter-minds), the character's behaviour is so exaggerated I found it unbelievable.
Maybe the issue had been going on longer than I thought it was, which granted could add stress. But there's no way to tell - events in the book happen one right after another with no sense of time between them. The book could take place over the course of a month, or only a few days for all the readers know.

I don't even have much else to say about it. It was a fast, easy read that took a book off of my reading goal. It was easy enough to read, and while I didn't really care for it, it wasn't so boring or awful I had to put it down.
It's not one I'd bother reading again, though - it's going straight into the donate/trade pile. There's better romances - and better harlequins - out there to spend time on.

What I liked- this is a deep romance story not the usual lustmance populating HPs.
I liked the hero. The heroine wasn't too annoying. She stayed celibate during the 5 years she was raising her child. The epilogue was lovely

What I didn't like- the hero turned into a lapdog. He apologized for not taking birth control precautions though it takes 2 to make an unplanned baby and the heroine never apologized. In older better HPs heroes upon discovering they were dads used all devious means necessary to get the heroine to marry them. Not this hero. He was a lapdog. All that wealth and power and he was an emasculated lapdog once he discovered he had a child.
I found the heroine somewhat annoying. Her impulsive actions led to all the events which happened to her and she's angry at the hero...what the what...she sleeps with a stranger...she has no reason to be upset at the hero. And it really annoyed me the heroine didn't tell the hero immediately he had a child. The hero wasn't an evil douche so the heroine keeping silent was horrible.
Finally, the chemistry between the hero and heroine was zero. The prose was decent but it felt mechanical not compelling at all.

Angel and Alex spend a night together but the morning after is not what Angel expects. Alex tells her he is a married man when in reality he is a widower who feels guilty for betraying the memory of his dead wife.

Six years later single mother Angel who is now a model has to work with Alex for a campaign. He doesn't know she had his baby girl or that he is the only man Angel has ever loved.

I admired the heroine and her dedication to her daughter. The epilogue was exactly what I wanted as a reader. Overall a good read but plot wise it could have been more interesting.

2nd time read in a anthology from library and found it tough going. Lowering rating to 2 stars. This should have been better than it was. It’s missing KL’s usual excellent dialogue and the narrative is awkward. Still liked the story and the HEA is real.

It was a decent novel. I expected a bit more emotional drama and passion but it left me feeling a bit flat without it. The ending was cute but I was waiting for her brother to rip the hero a new asshole, it totally skipped that part.

Hero is grieving the death of his wife who he loved very much and nursed through multiple sclerosis.

He sleeps most days on his office couch.

Then he rescues this stunning young college girl from being run over by a bus and it is lust at first sight for both of them.

Or at least for her.

For him it is definitely about getting oblivion from his terrible grief for a short period of time.

So they book a hotel room and stay awake through the night.

Next morning, the heroine looks at hero sleeping and is all mushy and gooey eyed, planning a rosy future together. The man she had thought could not exist, the feelings she was sure were not a real thing but only fairytales were in fact possible. One could actually fall in love with another human being madly and deeply. The girl is feeling tenderness. Emotions. So on.

Well. Hero wakes up. Is not sure how he got there, Remembers the previous night and is hit by shame and guilt. He has just buried his wife. He has not been faithful to her memory.

He gets up.. is getting dressed. His wedding ring which he had finally taken off, falls out of his pocket.

Hero does not tell heroine that he is actually a widower.

He does not correct heroine’s misapprehension that he is married.

He wants to get rid of heroine as soon as possible.

For him it was a moment of madness. The sooner forgotten. The better.

The girl is naturally incensed, shocked, disgusted, hurt.

She slaps him. Locks herself in the bathroom.

So they part ways without exchanging names.

In my opinion. This was the highest point of the story. It goes downhill from there.

Six years later, the hero’s nephew wants him to loan his island to a film crew to make an ad film.

When he shows the model’s picture, the hero agrees immediately.

So the two meet again. The hero wants to sleep with her. Feelings of lust are reciprocated.

Hero has apparently always remembered her as the best *** he ever had. But also with feelings of guilt and shame.

During initial conversation he realises she has a child. He has epiphany after a few more convos. It could be mine. More convos. Yes it is his daughter.

Bedroom scene. Ho hum .. it should have in fact been placed earlier I feel.

Hero meets daughter.

He proposes marriage to the heroine. Finally she agrees. They also confess to feelings of love.

Frankly, I didn’t feel too convinced that the hero was “in love”. He wants the whole package. The woman he lusts for and the ready made child that is his.

Perhaps it’s realistic.

They get married.

Epilogue proves he’s hopelessly imprinted on our heroine. He is terrified and out of his senses while she is pregnant for the second time.

Basically it could have been a five star read. But a certain level of flatness in the story and the belaboured conversations between the hero and heroine…. it is 3.5 ⭐️ at most.

Still not bad if you’re ok with tepid love stories.

Give me the angst of Penny Jordan or Sara Craven. No. Now that I think of it. Penny Jordan is more suited for fevered hormonal teenage girls 😊😊.

Sorry. Heroines name is Angel. Hero’s name is . .. .. weirdly I’ve forgotten. Cesare was her brother. What’s the hero’s name?!!!

Ok. Checked it from blurb here. It’s Alex. Not a well defined hero.

Anyway….

One scorching night, one secret never to be told…

Angel Urquart didn't sign up for this. A photo shoot on an island paradise? Yes. Working alongside Alex Arlov? Definitely not! Six years ago he showed her passion she'd only ever dreamed of, but after his behavior the following morning, she resolved to put him out of her head forever.

Seeing Angel brings all sorts of memories flooding back to Alex—memories that stir up a forgotten hunger. Alex sees no reason why they can't indulge in one more blazing night together, but Angel has a secret that will turn their lives upside dow

Jumlah halamannya pun nggak banyak, sekitar 200an halaman.

A Secret Until Now

When a one night stand ends up with a baby, you get a HP story line. She is now a model for cosmetics. He has the location needed. But their past has caught up with them both. Once the truth is revealed who will be left alone? Or will they make a marriage out of the lies.

It was a little rough at first, with the dude being an ass during the morning after and worse being a manipulative jerk to get the woman back in his life on his terms. But he wised up fast enough, in spurts, that I was able to get over my initial dislike of him. He eventually proved he was worth her.

Padahal saya lumayan suka tema anak rahasia gini. Sayang eksekusinya kurang oke. Pengarang ini kurang bisa bikin narasi cerita yang enak dibaca, mengalir, n gimana biar pembaca gak jadi bosen. Beneran dah, udah males baca buku-buku karya dia yang lain.

Don't have any massive issues with this book,it was just dull. Intimate scenes seemed forced, fights seemed hardly necessary, issues seemed unreal. Worth giving a shot if you're looking for something really safe that won't put even one scratch on your mind.

3 Give and Take Stars

“I am not some misguided do-gooder. I am a man who wants you, and intend to have you...”

Angel Urquart spent one amazing night with the gorgeous Alex Arlov, but the next morning, she learned that he wasn’t all that wonderful. His coldness toward her and his wedding ring made her wish the night had never happened.

Six years later while on a photo shoot o a private island, Angel shocked to find Alex back in her life. She is disgusted with him, but has to make the decision to let him know that he has a five-year-old daughter.

Alex was a total ass at the beginning of the book, but it was justified – somewhat. When he learned the consequences of his actions, he was all remorse and guilt. He wanted Angel, but she needed to know if he was worthy of learning about his daughter. I loved the way she handled the situation. She was careful and needed to know that he would not come into her daughter’s life and cause her pain.

This is a book that I will probably read again. I thought it was a Darn Good Read .

This is a very good book by Kim Lawrence. As I say on most of my reviews for Harlequin Presents novels, the story is typical HP. You have a heroine who has been hurt by the hero in the past. The hero is under some kind of macho-man righteous anger and that he was betrayed in some way by the heroine. And like most HP novels, it follows the predictable pattern of when the hero and heroine have scenes where they confront one another, they wind up making out or in bed.

However, I don't say this with any kind of heat. Some series lines are just like that. It's the way the books are supposed to be written. Kim Lawrence does a very good job in this book. The only way to describe things is there is an easy ebb and flow to the plot. The resolution that is reached doesn't just happen with the flick of a page. I also think the righteous indignation held by the hero and the heroine was evenly distrubted. There wasn't just one person feeling wrong and being able to take all the verbal jabs. For myself, that's what I look for in an HP novel.

Kim Lawrence is becoming one of my go-to authors for the Harlequin Presents line. I would highly recommend her books.

I can't say more. This book really my ideal type! I really love how writers description our judgment about models and sometimes make us forget that we generalizing it. How our tongue being thorns for other people. How our impulsive acts make people crumble. And then, heroine breaks them all and being a beautiful lady. Hard life makes you beautiful. Learning about yourself makes you feel confident. :)
