This started off really strong...and then just totally took a nosedive for me.

description

At 75% I was rolling my eyes and by 90% I was laughing at how unpolished and rushed the "big" ending turned out.

And don't even get me started on how many times the female MC talked about her armpits sweating.

Sexy.

Or the nickname "Cookie." The story behind it was lame and I felt like the author threw that in there because they wanted a cutesy nickname a la Kristen Ashley.

You call her Cookie because she made you cookies once and now they remind you of her?

4 'Under the Rainbow' Stars

Sheridan is a brand new teacher and excited to teach her young students the wonders of the world. She loved her job, just not the part that includes the parents, especially not a particular single dad. She and Beck, the dad of one her happiest students, do not get off on the right foot. But she loved his little girl, English, and just can't seem to say no to her when she tries to get her and Beck together. Sheridan slowly learns that there's a lot more to Beck than brooding looks and single word responses...and that she likes those hidden depths.

Beck and Sheridan's end up forming a friendship over their shared love for English. But when Englishes mom comes back into the picture and starts to fight for custody of the bubbly little girl, he needs more than just friendship from Sheridan. A lot more.

When I started this book and saw "Part One" I got nervous because I've had bad experiences with books that have multiple parts. But with this book I actually really liked how the author split it up. There were no large time jumps or anything like that, the different parts mostly just separated where Beck and Sheridan were in their relationship. And I actually loved how there was a lot of time and pages in the book about before their arrangement came up. We got to see from when they first met, to when the proposition happened, and to what came after. Was there a lot that was told in this story? Yes, but it never got boring or too slow.

I really enjoyed these characters, especially English! Beck and Sheridan were both young but I loved the maturity that they had. But that definitely doesn't mean that there characters acted too old for their age or anything like that. Actually AM Hargrove wrote their characters perfectly because we got to see them being responsible adults, but there were also moments that we got to see them going out and having fun as if care free. I liked how she did that and thought it was great the way we were reminded that both Beck and Sheridan had responsibilities that most people their age don't have to worry about.

English was a sweetheart and I wish all six year old could be like her. Any scene with her in it was instantly turned into something fun and loving, and it was wonderful how her presence added such a lightheartedness to the story.

There wasn't any over the top baby mama drama, and the story flowed really well between each part. The bottom line is that this was an adorably sweet story, with some sexiness thrown in, that was thoroughly enjoyable.

4.5 Unexpected Stars

When I first started reading this book I had a sort of a "yeah, whatever" kind of attitude and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much.

Well slap my ass and call me Sally because I absolutely loved it!

For the Love of English had a little bit of everything I look for in a romance. Take one strong and sweetly snarky heroine, mix her with a hawt as hell single dad that's a little bit asshole and a little bit gooey, add off the charts chemistry and A.M. Hargrove has managed to create one delicious love story. Was it a case of over the top insta-love sometimes? You bet. And I loved every bit of it. English and her adorable six year old self was the icing on the cake.

Did I mention I enjoyed the hell outta this book?

A sweet, sexy, heartfelt, and totally adorable love story!!!!! A.M. Hargrove has me under the rainbow and smiling BIG!!! Seriously, this book was just what I needed. It was light, sexy, and still packed that innocent emotional punch to make your hearts flutter. What is there not to love when you have a sexy protective single father only wanting the best for his baby girl? Right.. And may I just say, no one can resist the charms of his adorable daughter, English!!!

photo 8d79fa1df2dfd9ae05242e0a5d1afa_zpsy2al8co7.gif “The thing is, this is pressuring her, and a large part of me feels terrible about it. But that part is outweighed by my love for English. Make no mistake. I will do anything for my daughter. Anything.”

Beckley Bridges was a typical 19 year old college student who was living it up and didn’t have anything to worry about that is until he got an unexpected surprise when he came back home to see a baby along with a letter informing him that English Beckley Bridges is indeed his daughter. The letter also informs Beckley that English’s mother just couldn’t raise her on her own so she is surrendering all parental rights to Beckley. Now fast forward to six years later, Beckley is a single father dedicating his life to his baby girl. His English has her little fingers wrapped around his heart. There is nothing that Beckley wouldn’t do for his baby girl. If he could give her the world, he would most certainly do just that.

#ForLoveOfEnglish

English Bridges is the sweetest, smartest, carefree, and bright eyed six year old girl that you will ever meet. Right off the opening pages, your heart will belong to English. Trust me, you will want to give this little girl a big fat hug and so it was inevitable for her first grade teacher to not feel the same way about this adorable girl.

photo 8d79fa1df2dfd9ae05242e0a5d1afa_zpsy2al8co7.gif “Having English with us is one of those things I will hold close to my heart and not take for granted. She didn’t ask to come into this world the way she did, and she certainly didn’t ask for this upcoming battle that is about to take place over her. My silent vow to her, as she lies next to me, is to protect her at all cost, no matter what.”

Sheridan is a recent college graduate who landed her first teaching job. She loves teaching and was super excited to begin her career. Right off meeting English, Sheridan was in love with her. This little girl didn’t need much to fill Sheridan’s heart with so much love. So when Sheridan meets English’s dad, she is shocked to learn that he is kind of an arrogant rude man. They didn’t get the best impression of each other and so when she runs into Beckley, and he helps her out, she begins to see him in a whole new light.

#ForTheLoveOfEnglish1

Beckley doesn’t date and doesn’t have time to do relationships since his life is centered on his daughter and work but there is something about Sheridan that intrigues him. Soon, he finds himself forming a friendship with Sheridan and spending more time with her. He loves the fact that Sheridan loves being with his daughter. But when English’s mother sends Beckley court documents requesting custody of their daughter, Beckley will stop at nothing in protecting his daughter even if it means propositioning Sheridan to marry him in order to show the family judge that he has a stable loving household.

When Sheridan agrees to Beckley’s marriage proposal for the sake of English, she never expected that she will fall in love with him so fast. For years Beckley has kept his heart guarded and for the first time, he wants to share his heart with Sheridan. Will getting married be enough for Beckly to keep sole custody of English? How far will he go for the love of English?

photo 8d79fa1df2dfd9ae05242e0a5d1afa_zpsy2al8co7.gif “You pulled the nice and kindness out of me. It was something I didn’t know I had until you. You made me want to have your back in every way, made me want to protect you at all costs, and you showed me what loving another person truly means. Because I fell head over heels in love with you when I wasn’t looking, when I least expected it. I used to think English was the best thing that ever happened to me, but she wasn’t. You are. I had to love English. It was the natural thing to do, and I didn’t have a choice. But with you, my heart opened, and you filled it with so much love. I know without you I would be less than half a man.”

For The Love of English was one of those reads that will have you grinning from ear to ear. This book was sweet, charming, full of heart and steam. There was nothing about this book that I didn’t like. The story line flowed at an excellent pace giving readers a full depth and perspective of Sheridan, Beckley, and English. So if you are looking for your next sweet romantic read with a hot single dad then you better get those one-click fingers ready because this is one book that you don’t want to miss out. A.M. Hargrove will have you bursting with so much love under the rainbow For The Love of English.

3.75/4 'Our Rainbow' Stars!

I have a weakness when it comes to hot single dads and incredibly cute children. For the Love of English gives you exactly that: the story of Beckley Bridges, a jerkish but sexy man devoted to his daughter English and how that develops when Sheridan Monroe (English's new teacher) gets involved in gaining the full custody of said child.

I have to say my favorite character in all this was English, she is so freaking adorable and so funny! I was hoping to love Beck as much as I loved her but, sadly, it wasn't the same. I enjoyed the love story between the couple, the building and the sex scenes but I missed having a stronger connection towards Beck and Sheridan. Something just felt off for me. I liked them, especially at the end, and I loved all the moments together with English. A big part of my rating is because of her, seriously!

So, if you want to fall in love with a cute, funny and stylish little girl and her parents, check this book out!

Overall Opinion: Hmmm, what to say about this one?!? I'm really surprised I stuck with it tbh. I should've just added it to my dnf pile once I started having issues, but I think I just was hoping that it'd get better somehow. I didn't find anything really all that likable about either mcs, but the kid was great! I thought some of the events were a little OTT, and then they turned around and were resolved way too easily . I also felt like it didn't have anything substantial in the way of a connection between the mcs, so things were thrown in that weren't all that relevant or we would just get another sex scene. I also wonder if he was such a great Dad -- why would he propose marriage to a woman he didn't really know and let his daughter call her "mommy" right away?!? I don't care how good of a teacher she was -- I just found it weird tbh. Others might like this one, but it just wasn't my cuppa...

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Sheridan and Beck's story. Sheridan is starting her first year as a 1st grade teacher, and she is not all that happy to meet a rude single Dad. She loves his daughter, but is not impressed in his attitude. After some more encounters and spending some time together, he ends up confiding in her that he is having issues with his daughter's mother recently showing up after abandoning her at birth. After some dates, he ends up proposing marriage to her to help his case in not losing custody. There is a lot of drama surrounding the custody, there is a good bit of sexy times, and they fall in love...and get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Sheridan and Beck's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Slow. I was bored a good bit of the time, and I did skim a little. Overall, it felt choppy and unnatural in the flow and even in the dialogue. I can't pinpoint exactly what it was, but it just felt off to me.

Instalove: Yes. I only say this because I didn't understand their connection, so it felt unfounded to me.

H rating: 2 stars. Beck. He was a jerk at first, then he redeemed himself, but then he acted like a jerk again, but he redeemed himself. He was also not all that masculine to me. He was a dirty talker and took control in the bedroom, but there was something that nagged me a little about his characterization that felt a little feminine.

h rating: 3 stars. Sheridan. Ehh, she was ok *shrugs*

Sadness level: Low. No tissues needed.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate/high. I did feel like at one point that the sex scenes were just used as filler for the lack of events going on in the story, and I skimmed some scenes because of that.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes. Mentions of birth control and STD status, and both mention that they had never been without a condom before the other.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had a cute epilogue with a HEA ending.

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: I'd call this Safe for most readers.

I am sorry but I couldn't finish reading this book, so maybe you should not trust my rating.

My reasons are:

1. I hated both characters, I mean the hero and the heroine. Only the little girl was cute and lovable.

The man is, I guess, the rudest hero I have ever met. He is only kind and good to his child and family but an arrogant as*hole to all others.

And the woman is one of the least likable heroines ever for me. She is pathetic and she swears like this all the time, which is way more creative than I can handle:
“Aww, double fuck me sideways with a big fat dildo. Now look what I’ve done.”
OR
“Fuck me hard and fast! What am I gonna do? Of all the rotten dicks around, how come I get butt fucked like this? Suck a giant boner.”

2. I couldn't understand how they started to go on a date. She is his daughter's teacher. When they first met, he was incredibly rude to her. He was really mean and after a while, his kid asks him to invite her for dinner because she loves her teacher a lot. So, he does, and she comes. And a few days later, they are on a dinner date in a restaurant. No feelings developed! Nope, none at all. (ohhh, she finds him hot, there is that...)

The man starts to behave less rude to her in time and he says he finds her attractive but he never makes any amends for the times he was rude.

And then, there is this marriage proposal for the sake of the little kid's custody, but the marriage he offers involves sex and because he is hot and handsome, she says, "Oh why not? I love the kid, too..." after a little bit of thinking.

See why I disliked her?

So, as you see, I tried - I really really tried hard and I read more than half of the book indeed, hoping I would relate to them somehow or at least hoping that these characters would grow on me but no, it didn't happen and after %60, I said, "why still try, I should have liked it already" and then, I dropped it.

You see what I mean? I have read so many books that made me furious but I finished them all. I very rarely drop a book. My actual reason for dropping this one is not my anger, the fact is I didn't like this book even a teeny-tiny bit, that's why, I couldn't go on...

(The book is 302 pages and I dropped it at page 170)

I always give low points to books that I cannot finish so you should consider that when you question my rating. A book that I cannot stand even after I tried for so long gets 1 point from me :(

I was anxious to read this release, as my previous reads by this author were some of my all time favorite reads. She definitely didn't disappoint. It was a delightful, sweet, satisfying story. It has wonderful characters. And seriously, you absolutely can not, not fall in love with English. She's simply amazing.

Beck & Sheridan have a love/hate relationship that initially builds on a love of a little girl. I loved the way this author uses Beck & Sheridan's mutual love for English, as a catalyst for their relationship. Several circumstances happen in this story to change the course of their relationship, however, it's all based on one love however that quickly changes and priorities are shifted. Its beautiful to read, however, I wish we could have seen more into their lives when things 'change'. I still enjoyed this one.

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we practice to conceive. Is this the line?

Anyway, who doesn't love a single dad story. Don't all little girls wish/want/are daddy's little girl.

This story has the sweetness that comes from pure love. It has the heat that comes from well... sexy times that sizzle the pages. And damned it has a plot that gets you to turn the page.

I won't say too much more because I like going in blind and I have nothing but good things to say.

It's a winner. One you should read especially if you like your stories to have all the above!

For the Love of English is the first book I've read by A. M Hargrove and whilst I didn't love it, and it certainly wasn't what I'd term flawless, it was enjoyable enough, largely down to the fact that I'm a big old sucker for a single dad.

“Make no mistake. I will do anything for my daughter. Anything.”

There were a few aspects that didn't work so well for me: some of the dialogue came over choppy and a little unnatural, the chemistry between Beck and Sheridan was tenuous at times, and the drama at the end—everything this story was building up to—was underplayed and over too quickly. But this was counterbalanced by the fact that I adored English who was as cute as a button with her innocent and insightful observations and I loved her relationship with her dad and her teacher, Sheridan.

“...my daddy’s kisses are like magic. They make everything feel better.”

Add in some scorching moments between Sheriden and Beck as they get to know one another and you have a story that blends sweet with sexy. Didn't blow me away but I'd definitely check out more from A. M Hargrove.

I'd just recently been introduced to the writing of A.M. Hargrove when I read one of her co-authored books, A Beautiful Sin, so when I saw the blurb for For the Love of English, I knew I wanted to check it out.

For the Love of English was a refreshingly different plot for me. Frequently being inundated with so many tropes that all sound the same with just a slight twist here or there, I'd never read one the likes of this. Beckley Bridges finds himself a single dad midway during his college years when the mother simply drops his infant daughter, English, off on his parent's doorstep. Armed with just a letter and custody papers, Beck changes the path of his life to be the best dad he can for his daughter.

With the support of his wonderful parents, he's grown successful in his photography career and English is a perfectly well adjusted six year old. Entering elementary school, Beck doesn't make the greatest first impression with English's teacher, being over an hour late for parent/teacher conferences. She's young and beautiful and he was a certifiable a$$hole. Great first impression...

How can such a darling young girl can have such an egotistical father was Sheridan's inner monologue. Tall, dark, and muscular, the man was a specimen of perfection...until he opens his mouth. Or more so doesn't speak. His clipped monosyllabic speech is all she needs to see for her to know she's not his #1 fan. But suddenly when English's mother comes into the picture, Beck finds himself at the mercy of one Miss Sheridan Monroe.

If you're a fan of a$$holish heroes, you'll love Beck. He's the specimen of perfection as a single dad but wow, his rudeness with Sheridan was off the charts. I loved that aspect of it...but no worries, he warms and his walls come tumbling down. My heart melted whenever scenes centered around him and his spunky artistic daughter that's in love with all things Frozen.

Sheridan- I had a love/hate relationship with that heroine. My first impression of her was that of a very unprofessional young teacher with a mutha of a potty mouth- very inappropriate for that of a local school teacher to a parent. I could've went without that. But when push comes to shove, she's the hero for both Beck and English.

For the Love of English is a cute, emotional yet also steamy love story between not only a man and a woman but the growth of a family. Chocked full of endearing characters and just enough conflict to keep the pages turning, I enjoyed it a lot and look forward to more from A.M. Hargrove.

4 Single Daddy Stars

I was in a single parent mood and For the Love of English hit the spot. This is my first book by A.M. Hargrove and it won’t be the last. I really like the pace and flow of this one. I also love all the steam! I read it in on sitting.

Beckley is a single dad to a six year-old. Her name is English and she is 100% adorable. I love it when it’s a single dad and a cute little girl. I also like it when the child is sweet.

Sheridan is a teacher and English is her student. English is a quirky little girl and slowly starts to steal Sheridan’s heart. But her Dad is something else.

I really like the tension between Beckley and Sheridan it was so funny and kind of over the top at times. I think they run into each other like five times. How accurate is that? But it was cute so I went with it. I like how Beckley kind of ignores her and tries to stay away from Sheridan but is always there when she needs saving.

I love the relationship between English and Sheridan and it was just all cute and warm fuzzy feelings. When Beckley’s ex comes into the picture it adds some tension to the story.

Overall, it was a cute and sweet single parent book. There are some parts you kind of wonder how accurate that could be, but I liked the low angst feel of the book. I recommend!

For the Love of English by AM Hargrove
5 stars!!!

“When life hands you rotten eggs, don’t eat the fuckers. Just throw them at someone you hate.”

This was a book that definitely left me “under the rainbow” today. AM Hargrove is one of those authors where I go in blind so I really didn’t know what I would be getting until I started reading. AM Hargrove delivers a heart stopping, beautiful, sexy, sweet, heart numbing, adorable story that will leave you with the warm and fuzzies. A story whereby a single teenage dad steps up to the plate to raise his little daughter, a little girl whose ambition in life is to be happy, to be “under the rainbow” every single day.

Beckley Bridges’ life changed one day with an unexpected brown box delivery, a brown box that contained his baby daughter with a note and legal parental rights papers saying she was the result of a one night stand and that the mother couldn’t cope. He was at college, his life was there for the taking, but as soon as he clapped eyes on that little baby bundle he became one over protective father that lived and breathed for his daughter’s happiness. An adorable, clever, quick witted little girl called, English. A girl that you couldn’t help but fall in love with. Now a successful photographer, Beck has come to that time in life where English starts school and it is here that his path crosses with Sheridan Monroe.

“You’re the most important thing to me now. Do you hear what I’m saying? English is going to grow up and leave, but I want you with me forever.”

Sheridan had just completed her own education and was embarking on the career that she had always wanted. This is her first tenure as a teacher and she is as nervous as hell. Being a first grade teacher she feels it is up to her to make their education a happy experience so that school becomes a fun place and her class is the foundation that can mar their educational minds forever. Sheridan though had a heart of gold and had nothing to worry about.

Sheridan and English’s connection was instantaneous. There was something about this little girl that melted Sheridan into a pile of a goo. A little girl that was wary yet astute and didn’t show her emotions to everyone. English though loved Miss Monroe and their connection went way beyond teacher and student, a connection that would only flourish as time went by.

“I told Daddy to be nice to you because you’re our rainbow.”

I really don’t want to say anymore because you need to read this story page by page. The emotions that AM Hargrove evokes with ease will have you smiling and laughing one minute and crying tears the next. The relationship between Beck and Sheridan is far from conventional, yet their underlying love for one another was always there, that tangible connection that they were both oblivious to until it hits them like a steam train. Two people that were drawn together by their mutual love and adoration of the most cutest, sweetest little girl who really made this book.

“We fit perfectly together, not a conflict, but a true harmony.”

But this is not all hearts and flowers, this is a book with real issues that are faced every minute of every day by single fathers. It is this plot line that really makes this book so much more than a single dad love story. Beck would lay his life down for English and nothing makes your heart beat faster than a father with that unconditional love, a love so fierce that I felt everything from his little glances, his actions, his protectiveness and his words, his love for that little girl poured from the pages.

“We all have flaws, Beck. But as long as you recognise your mistakes, that’s what’s important.”

But, this is also a love story and that initial love/hate relationship was the initial spark that these two needed to rage into a blazing inferno and AM Hargrove captured this slow build to perfection. The chemistry was palpable and with each tortured confrontation between the two I was frantically waiting for the moment that these two connected in all ways and AM Hargrove didn’t disappoint.

“If it weren’t for the love of English, I wouldn’t be standing here.”

This book had it all, a fantastic plot, fantastic dialogue, chock full of emotion with some amazing characters. But most of all, it sends a message and it is a message that I will definitely be taking away. People may think they know what is right, who is right, what situations are right, but the heart knows what is right. Sometimes it is okay to go with the heart, your gut instincts, nothing is ever black and white…the world is a rainbow. Live your life under the rainbow.

5.0 "BIG.FAT.LOVE.SQUEEZE" STARS!!!

For The Love of English by A.M Hargrove is my first book of the author. And to be honest, this is one of those books that I enjoyed reading not because of the thrill but because I became invested right from the start and I feel like I am being swayed and lost in the story.

True, reading this book feels so different. I admit my interest was captured when I read the blurb because who wouldn't? Sexy Single Dad Romance is just so fun and enjoyable to read, and when you say single dad I usually thought of it as being HOT and I am really a sucker for that. But....

FOR THE LOVE OF ENGLISH is SO MUCH MORE!

For one, the characters are easy love. They had this chemistry that so sizzling and so undeniable yet so frustrating at times you do not know who to punch or kick ass but at the same time you just want to hug them so tight. Because of the steady pacing of the story and the vivid story telling you will not get only glimpses of them but you will have the moment to savor their journey from being Parent-Teacher, to "enemies" to friends and then later on to being couples. It's not an insta-love romance but you will get to enjoy the growth of both the characters as well the blooming of the relationship. Please don't get me started with their hot scenes because I tell you, it was one hot of a sex scene! Those bathroom scenes for eff's sake! Cold shower is not enough and it wasn't just a one time thing. And well, not only that because this sexy dad is one hella of a dirty talker and is capable of doing dirty and filthy things to you.

***Fanning (not enough)

***Runs to the bathroom for a cold shower

Yes! he's not just a great father but he's a great lover too. And is being paired to someone you may think so innocent but could swear like a sailor you will be in awe of her mouthy transformation from a teacher of six year old bunch of rugrats to a dirty lover too. She has her own baggage but she wears it confidently. She might not often talk about it but she's a strong woman and knows how to handle herself. And well,as a mom?? She nailed it! Yep, told you they had a great chemistry.

And of course, it wouldn't be entitled For The Love of English without ENGLISH right? Yeah, this cute, quirky adorable baby is really the STAR of the SHOW! She did not stole it, she OWNED it! She made my reading one hella of fun. I couldn't stop myself from laughing on her antics and grinning from ear to ear. This cutie is just so adorable you will feel like you wanna adopt the kid. And her interactions with her family is just a blast!

Seriously, it's a good story to read. It's on point, fun, lighthearted may be and angst-ish, what with the biological mother and all those issues that arise but above all, it was written well and a good book portraying the love of a single dad who will do anything and everything just to protect the his kid. It's a good story of a portrayal of what a family should be despite past, despite issues, despite ups and downs. And indeed when I finished reading the book, I said to myself that this book should be read not just for my fellow readers but to be shared also to all the single dads out there that all they're efforts are admired and loved.

To the author, a great job done! You just delivered a beautiful story of single dad, his love for his kid, romance and a family in whole totality that just blended so well and with a great substance that made me captivated from beginning until the end. And oh, you made me cry and made my heart gripped so tight. But you made me laugh too and you left me with a beautiful smile and a warm heart.

A must read!

This is my 2nd book that I've read by Ms Hargrove. The 1st was A Beautiful Sin.
I found this book on Totally BookBlog. I picked this up through KU on Amazon.
*Possible spoilers***
The h in this book, Sheridan is a brand new 1st Grade school teacher.
One of her students is English, an adorable 6 year old. Yeah- she steals the show.
She's fantastic from the start. Very realistic and amazing in the literal sense. She takes EVERYTHING at face value. Sheridan, "Miss Monroe" of course loves and appreciates the heck out of her. Sheridan is a great teacher and becomes friends with English.
Beck is a single dad. In the Prologue, he's 19 y/o college student, living with his parents. Infant English is left on their doorstep by "The Mother"- another college student who leaves a note & legal documents giving Beck sole custody of baby English.
Chapter 1 starts out when Sheridan meets English in her classroom.
Sheridan and Beck finally meet, but not at all off to a good start. Sheridan has some righteous anger, but she kinda blows her credibility when she spouts off with crude words.
She has a potty mouth-never around English or any of the kids! 125 times or so w/ F word throughout the book. I usually don't notice, but it seemed like a weird quirk. Some of the swearing was their dirty sexy talk, so I shouldn't count that, lol.

The story flowed a little better as it went on. I loved English- she really made this book for me. Sheridan and Beck form a truce in order to protect English from her "Other Mother".
There are absolutely NO good feelings between Beck and the ow (all of their dealings are through their attorneys or the court). The baby mama, Abby is definitely the villain in this story. Beck and Sheridan are stressed to realize that the ow wants to work her way back into her daughter's life. Beck and Sheridan hold each other up for the sake of English. The custody battle takes up a large part of 2nd 1/2 of the book. I actually was riveted to the legal goings on. Beck and Sheridan are very suspicious of Abby, but haven't been able to prove anything concrete.

The writing and the flow of the story got much better as it went on. The author really knows how to write a great child character.
I liked Beck's parents-Anna & Mark. Very supportive to Beck and terrific grandparents to English.
The love scenes are hot, but brief. Don't skim a paragraph, you'll miss them.
Near the 40% mark, Beck and Sheridan get together for the love of English (see, the title!). The rest of the book, the three of them adjust to each other & fight to retain sole custody of English. Beck and Sheridan's relationship grows stronger-with the exception of a conflict where I was happy that Sheridan stood up for herself.
This is mainly 1st person Sheridan's POV, but the last few chapters are Beck's POV. We do get to find out what he's thought of Sheridan from their very first meeting.
This is at the end & I love this from Beck (it says it all):

'But then English tugs on my arm and asks, "You ready, Daddy?", "I sure am." She squiggles down out of my arms and leads Sheridan over to the side. I see her giving her some kind of instructions. This is either going to be hilarious or a complete bust. I'm counting on the kid to steal and save the show.' ** YES she sure did....
I loved the single dad trope. It started off kind of... slow and stiff. I really warmed up to Beck and Sheridan. It moved up to 4.25 stars. I love a strong finish.

For the Love of English by A.M. Hargrove

Introduction: Beck is a single, handsome, stong, comes across as a bit arrogant single father.

English, Beck's daughter who is entering grade one and Miss Sheridan Monroe who happens to be English's first grade teacher.

Brief Snopsis: Six years ago during Christmas break and after a night out with the boys Beck's parents wake him up to show him the present that was left on their front porch with a letter. Here we first meeting English. Present Day: English is now entering grade 1 and on the first day of school we are introduced to her teacher Miss Sheridan Monroe.

Immediately reading this story you fall in love with English, she is smart, independent, strong and a force to be reckoned with. She made me laugh out loud and I love how she is so comfortable wearing whatever she wants. Sheridan is a beautiful young woman with a caring, compassionate, easy going personality everything that is required to become a great teacher. Then there is Beck, English's dad, he doesn't make the greatest first impression but no matter what Sheridan cannot deny the attraction she feels and the attraction is mutual. English knows what she wants!

Beck is struggling trying to deal with someone from his past, he will do anything for his daughter even asks Sheridan for her help. Then arrangement begins and it actually works out because they both love English and will do anything for her and their attraction to each other sure helps the situation.

I loved how this book was written, I loved each part and I felt the story flowed extremely well. Its no secret A.M. Hargrove is one of my favorite authors, her writing can make you laugh out loud and then the next thing you know your looking for the Kleenex. A great author is a person who can write a story and make you feel what her characters are experiencing. A.M Hargrove is definitely what I consider a great author. Her stories make woman swoon over her male characters and you want the female characters to become your BFF's. And English is the type of young girl any mother would wish for.

I have rated For the Love of English 5 stars, great story, well written and you will not be disappointed at all. I highly/strongly recommend For the Love of English by A.M. Hargrove.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

description

This is the first book I read by AM Hargrove and I am really happy to give a book of hers a try. The first thing that popped up to me was the blurb. People who know me know that I have a weakness for single parents. Especially single dads convince me to one-click a certain book. I am happy that I read this book.

This book is about Beckley and his 6 yours old daughter English, and Sheridan who is English's teacher. When Beck and Sher first meet during parent-teacher conference, he was such an asshole towards her. I really wanted to smack him for talking and acting so rude. Beck is a very broody alpha male that doesn't talk much. Sheridan was an awesome character, she turned out to be a bit different than you first expected her to be. Then English's mom, who abandoned her when she was just a baby, comes back for custody. Beck needs to find himself a wife to make sure that doesn't happen. Who better than English's teacher Sheridan, who English can't stop talking about.

I absolutely LOVED English; she was so cute, sweet and just AWESOME! I also loved her relationship with her dad and with Sher. What I also loved is that Sheridan didn't take any crap from Beck. She was a strong and independent woman with a very kind heart. Also I couldn't stay mad at Beck because he was just super swoonworthy whenever he was with English. I also loved that he was a dirty-talker, especially in the bedroom. It was so HOT, and I couldn't get enough.

There was no unnecessary drama, and the pace of the story was PERFECT. There was no rushing through it, the author took her time to really tell the story in the perfect way. As for her writing, it was very easy to follow and I could really connected with it. I wouldn't mind a sequel or even a novella about the authors because I really enjoyed reading about them.

A really promising start that got progressively more ridiculous.

Initially he's the gruff, taciturn and hot single dad, but in the space of a couple of pages he's transformed into another horny alpha wannabe. Oh and boy was he determined to probe her bumhole with every single part of his body capable of pointing.

Anyway, I persevered because I enjoyed the beginning and I'm always hopeful a good start will claw its way to a strong finish but I had reservations with the plot from the start and as the story progessed, those reservations had me rolling my eyes so often I was dizzy.

Some of this might be a little spoilery so I'll hide it just in case.

I was on a roll of awesome reads an then this came along.

It started off awesome. I loved the beginning. I loved how sweet Sheridan was, I loved English (she was so stinking adorable!) and I even loved how much of a jerk Beck was while still being the sweetest dad ever. I loved how much he loved his kid. Then things went awry.

I didn’t have a problem with Sheridan going out with her bff. The scene was fun and she deserved a night out. I don’t mind swearing, not in person and not in books. It doesn’t bother me. But what bothers me is when a character does something so out of character that I’m left scratching my head…and that’s what happened with Sheridan and her night out. She went on at least two long rants of swearing and both times left me feeling like the author was trying too hard to make it funny. It felt forced and completely out of character for Sheridan.

But that was just a little bump in the road. That was nothing. And honestly, this book could have been a 5 star read, and was…until it wasn’t.

This is the only warning you’re going to get….THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

So, English’s biological mother comes back into the picture and wants to meet her daughter. Ok. Fine. Meeting her and wanting to develop a relationship with English would have been fine. But that’s not how this went down. Not even close. The biological mother comes back and immediately files for custody of English, throwing Beck into a custody battle. HERE’S WHY THIS DOESN’T WORK…In the very beginning of the book, English is dropped off on Beck’s FRONT PORCH with a note from the biological mother saying (this is a direct quote):

Beck,
I tried. I really did. But it was too much. So I’m giving her to you. She was a lot more than I bargained for. If you don’t want her, then you can give her up for adoption. In the box under her blankets, you’ll find the legal papers, signed by a lawyer and me, which give total custody to you. I’ve given up all legal rights to her. If you’re wondering, she was conceived homecoming night at the fraternity party in November our freshman year. I doubt you even remember since we were both drunk. I don’t blame you, as the fault was mine as much as yours. On the documents, you’ll find my name. I’m sure you will follow up with DNA testing, which I encourage you to do. But you are her father, as you were the only one I was with. In the envelope with her legal documents, I’ve also enclosed her medical records. She is healthy—if you’re wondering. That’s not why I’m leaving her with you. And so you know, I couldn’t go through with the abortion I scheduled.
I’m sorry. I guess I wasn’t cut out for motherhood.
Abby

Ok, so…let’s break this down…in the box with her baby, she included a letter saying the baby was Beck’s and that she wasn’t cut out for motherhood. ON TOP OF THAT, she included (and this part is important) LEGAL PAPERS GIVING UP ALL HER LEGAL RIGHTS TO THE BABY…so someone please tell me how this woman had a leg to stand on!?!?!?!?!?!?

Ok, so if she wanted to know her daughter after 6 years, I can see her contacting Beck. Beck even says multiple times to the reader that if she really wanted a relationship with English he wouldn’t keep them apart, but he didn’t trust that’s what she wanted and felt like she had an ulterior motive (for the record, he was right)…SO CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY ANY JUDGE WOULD LOOK AT THAT INFORMATION AND THINK “Yeah, let’s rule in her favor, when the dad is a loving dad who stepped up and provided for his child and has provided a good and loving home for her and has done a good job raising her” and ALWAYS FIND IN FAVOR OF THE WOMAN THAT GAVE UP HER RIGHTS!

I’m sorry. But this doesn’t work for me. A) While there are places that still find in favor of the mom, that’s not really the norm anymore. B) Seeing as how the biological mother approached English ON A PLAYGROUND, and scared her, AND the police were called BECAUSE THE WOMAN WAS A STRANGER WHO APPROACHED A CHILD...that would be a HUGE red flag…FOR ANYONE. C) the author wrote herself into a corner with those legal documents. If she hadn’t included that, then maybe this storyline would have been believable. Yes, it would have still pissed me off and it would have sucked but it would have been believable. But as it stands, the mom had no legal rights, but everyone under the sun acted like she did.

This book could have been a 5. It started out that way but I’ll be honest, everything with the stupid custody case dropped it to a 2. I just couldn’t help but feel like not enough research was done in this area.

Honestly, by time I got to the end of the book, I felt awful. I started this, it was going well and I even recommended this to a friend. And I regret that. So to my friend…I’m sorry I sucked you into a buddy read of this. The best part of reading this book was buddy reading it. The rest…not so much. The book pissed me off THAT much.

I don't know how to review this. So this might be really short if I manage to stop myself from rambling.

Funny thing happened when I started reading this, like a page in, I don't know why but for some unfathomable reason I thought Beck was our lead.
Our FEMALE lead.

Yeah...

So anyway, moving on, If you're reading this and you've read the book already, could you please explain to me How the effing hell are Beck's parents so chill about everything?!
I mean I get being laid back but COME ON!
No one and I mean, No One, reacts that well to a baby on their doorstep supposedly belonging to their nineteen year old, back on college break.

I loved where the author was coming from with the idea for this book. Kudos to Single Dads.
And I wanted to love this so much b-but *sigh* I didn't.
It was a great effort but it fell short.
A lot.

The writing wasn't smooth. Kind of choppy. The words just weren't flowing.
And I'm not sure I actually even liked Beck as a hero...as a Dad sure, total awesomesauce but as the hero, a husband, No.
The shit he pulled against Sheridan, after everything she'd done for them, unacceptable.
The woman gave up everything, put her career, her dreams, all of it on the line for the man and his daughter and he repays her in the douchiest way possible.
Freaking dipshit.
I really think Sheridan forgave him way too soon, he should have begged and groveled till his voice got hoarse and his palms and knees bled.
(Phew, that escalated quickly.)

So apart from that, it was a pretty okay book.
English was love.
I love reading books with actual child characters and all their kid talk.
Hilarious!
And this was no exception.
English's child-like innocence was just Gah! So cute!

I'm probably not going to pick up another A.M. Hargrove novel soon but I am glad everything worked out in the end.

Some of the heroine's inner monologues and antics were very familiar which gave her a pass and generated a lot of affection from me. She's not quite an adorkable manic pixie, but falls close to the line. As a first year teacher, she's young and enthusiastic and falls for English, daughter to a sexy but rude single dad. She also has a, uh oh, deep backstory.

With lots of alternating POV, the story devolved from an I hate you into a MOC in order to keep English away from the potentially evil bitch mother then finally a love story. The H who is pretty much a jackass for a lot of the book does something irredeemable that the heroine not only makes him grovel but EXPLAIN. She caves of course, but she pushes the separation more than most little h's.

English is a sufficiently adorable little moppet and relatively realistic although she only throws one fit, but the story wasn't fleshed out enough for the FOUR POINT SOMETHING ratings and orgasmic ARC reviews. For the Love of English didn't change my life, complete me, and the jackass isn't my new book boyfriend, and, oy vey, spare me the superlatives.

Oddly enough, unlike most of these ARC lying, YA, CA tropefests, the sex was uncomfortable and awkward. For me. Obviously not for the couple.

Surprisingly I like this book thanks to English. She is such a cutie. This is my first read by Miss Hargrove. And I do like it. She can writes such a adorable curse words.

Sheridan is a young woman working as kindergarten teacher. One of her student which is adorable 6 years old English. was in her class. English father, Beck is a sexy hot single father. But Beck is very very rude and stiff to Sheridan with no appearance reason. Just because he is rude. When unexpected circumstance crash into Beck world, he needs Sheridan to married him.
It is a cliche plot. But on For the Love of English, the writing is so engaging especially with a dialog that belongs to Kids Say the Darnest Things, it elevate the book into sweet cute.

I just feel the story is tad too long dragging toward 60% of the book with unnecessary drama about English being taken by her biological mother. But I do not feel bored thanks again to English cuteness.

Single dad. Teacher. Marriage of convenience.

This was a good single dad and the teacher romance, but it didn’t blow me away. And sometimes the characters all annoyed me a bit. The only one who didn’t was English. She was the best character in the book.

Anyway. If you’re looking for a single dad romance, with a bit of enemies to lovers and marriage of convenience, this one is pretty good!

A delightful, quick but ultimately satisfying book. Wonderful characters. Its totally impossible not to fall in love with English, the precocious first grader that comes barrelling into Sheridan's life. I adored her imagination, idiosyncrasies and the very realistic manner she is portrayed.

Our MCs, school teacher Sheridan and single dad, Beck are fabulous and my only complaint would be that I wanted more of the broody, monosyllabic behaviour from Beck and the feisty responses from Sheridan. The tension was spot on. I loved the way the author used their mutual love for English as the entire catalyst for their relationship without sacrificing the 'grown up' elements of the book *eyebrow waggle*.

The plot was nicely paced to keep the reader invested and the external threat of English's biological mother provided a bit of suspense. I have not read this author before but would place this book in with Melanie Harlow's style of sweet with a twist.
