Tea Cups and Carnage is the 7th Tourist Trap Mystery written by Lynn Cahoon. I've read the previous books in the series as well as most of the author's other series too. In this installment, protagonist Jill bonds with a new store owner who is a previous beauty queen. The woman's sister and cousin sneak into town, and one of them ends up dead. Plus, there's a hellish crowd of motorcyclists causing trouble and the new teller at the bank is causing lots of problems. How's it all connected? In a fun way, of course... and I enjoyed getting to know all the new people around town. Cahoon's books always make me smile, and this one helped readers learn to like several of the supporting characters even more. I felt bad when a few were accused of stealing money from Jill, but there's a reason for it all happening. A nice ending, and I am excited to dive into another one next week... since I'm officially halfway done with the series now.

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from Kensington and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions stated in this review are explicitly mine*

The seventh book in a quickly growing series, Tea Cups and Carnage was a vast improvement over the last book and overall an above-par book that I enjoyed!

The main characters were back, and they all seemed to have new life breathed into them. The characters had started to get repetative in the few books before this one and in the last book they fell completely flat; however in this book they were wonderful. They all had new layers added on and I especially liked the parts with Josh.

The mystery was also so much better. Jill didn't do very much sleuthing and it all just fell into her lap; that's my favorite kind of mystery! The ending was very suspenseful, and my heart was beating so fast!

Overall a simply wonderful book. I will be reading the next book and I'm very excited for Ms. Cahoon's new series coming in September!

A good addition to the series. It was good to catch up with some of the characters, of which Esmeralda is still my favorite, even though she only shows now and then. Oh, and Emma, the sweetest dog ever. It needed a bit of editing but, fortunately, it was a good enough story to keep on reading. The next in the series is on the WL.

The Tourist Trap Mysteries gets better and better with every new installment!

I knew this series by author Lynn Cahoon was going to be one of my favorites when I read book one, GUIDEBOOK TO MURDER. The characters, the setting, the theme of this series are, quite simply, a joy to read.

TEA CUPS AND CARNAGE introduces another new shop to the town of South Cove. Housed in what was once a bank, the Tea Hee tea shop seems to fit in perfectly with the other wonderful shops in town, even if something doesn’t seem quite right about Tea Hee’s owner, Kathi…not that the men of town notice. They’re too busy ogling her. What? Nope! You have to read it for yourself to see if Kathi is a welcome addition, or a taste of bitter tea. ;-)

All of the returning characters are back and better than ever. They really are growing, and Ms. Cahoon is adding new dimensions to each one with every new book.

A solid, fast moving mystery, TEA CUPS AND CARNAGE is a fabulous tale of secrets, lies, murder, and more! Trust me, once you take a sip of what Lynn Cahoon has to offer, you’re going to be begging for seconds, and thirds, and…!

You’ll also find an excerpt from, A STORY TO KILL, book one in an exciting new series from Lynn Cahoon!

It's time for another great visit to Coffee, Books, and More, with owner, Jill Gardner and her golden retriever, Emma. Detective Greg King and Jill make a great couple who have busy careers and enjoy living in charming South Cove, California. Jill bought a used food truck so she could take her coffee and desserts on the road to the Summer Beach Blast and other events. It's a huge success! A new specialty shop, Tea Hee, is about ready to open next to Jill's store, and Jill wants to welcome owner, Kathi Corbin, into the town's business circle. During the festival, a corpse is found in a seedy motel nearby, and once identified, has ties to Kathi. Join Jill, Greg, and the gang we've come to know and love in the previous six stories, as they try to keep each other safe; help each other with their businesses; and get the criminals off the streets and behind bars. It's always my cup of tea to relax and enjoy a new story in The Tourist Trap Mystery series.

It’s summertime in the small town of South Cove, California and everyone is getting ready for the Summer Festival on the beach. Jill Gardner, owner of the shop Coffee, Books, and More, is busy getting her new food truck and staff ready for the big party.

Jill is excited to see a new shop opening up called Tea Hee. She even has an arrangement with the owner, Kathi Corbin, to feature her tea in Jill’s coffee shop. It’s not long before Jill realizes mystery surrounds Kathi when her sister shows up looking for a job. She can’t understand why she doesn’t work for Kathi and, instead, is applying for jobs all around South Cove. Then, murder strikes in a local motel and all the evidence points towards Kathi. She’s determined to prove that it couldn’t be Kathi’s doing, but how well did she really know her new friend and her family?

Jill and her boyfriend, police detective Greg King, have an agreement – she keeps her nose out of his investigations and they will get along just fine. Of course that’s an agreement Jill finds impossible to stick to.

I love this series and the latest entry into it is even better than the previous ones. We get to know the main characters more and more with each book. The romance between Jill and Greg is moving along at a steady pace. Greg is a bit more tolerant of Jill’s snooping but not 100%. The romance does not overpower the mystery. The mystery is still the main point of the story which is exactly what I want in my cozy mysteries.

I was a bit surprised at the ending, but not blown away. There were really only a couple of choices and the one used worked well. I liked how it all wrapped up in the end.

One of my favorite things to do on vacation is explore small towns just like South Cove. So, for a few hours, I felt as if I was actually in one. That’s probably why I adore this series so much…the small town atmosphere, the cute little shops, and all the nutty characters. I always enjoy every minute in South Cove.

It’s a busy time for Jill, with the carnival in town, and for her detective boyfriend, when a murder takes place. So much happens in this tale, from missing bank deposits, to a reckless motorcyclist, to estranged sisters, to a shop owner’s mysterious absence, to a beating, and to a murder. Jill decides not to investigate this time, but just can’t help changing her mind. The story is delightful not only for the intricate mystery, but for watching the characters go about their everyday lives, filled with normal and not-so-normal problems. This is a fast-paced treat for cozy readers.

Review:

This is the seventh book in the Tourist Trap Mystery series and it is a very good read. Jill is busy with Coffee, Books and More, her coffee shop/bookstore that she owns, getting the food truck up and running and keeping her relationship with her boyfriend, Greg, moving on the right track. That’s a lot for anyone to handle and when you throw in a murder, it becomes almost overwhelming.

The character are well developed and well rounded. I enjoy the bickering and banter between Jill and Aunt Jackie, she is a real pistol. Aunt Jackie is a hard person to like, even Jill has trouble sometimes liking her, and she’s her niece! Jill has a lot of good friends and coworkers and it is enjoyable reading about all of their interactions.

There is more than one mystery to be solved: where did the deposit money go, who is the killer and what is up with Kathi’s family. I really enjoyed this fact and thought it added another level to the book. Jill, who is already busy running the coffee/book store and participating in the Summer Beach Bash and the library fundraiser, needs to find the time to work at solving these many mysteries. Can she figure them all out in time or will there be more murders taking place?

One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was the fact that Jill never saw the dead body. She heard about it but she was not the one to find it. That was refreshing to me since that is not what usually happens in the cozies that I read. Another thing that made this book slightly unique was the fact that Jill does not continually put herself in harm’s way. She asks questions and looks for clues but is not always placing herself in dangerous situations. This made the book seem more realistic to me.

I would recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I have read all of this series and I have greatly enjoyed them all.

I have found a new cozy series to follow. Lynn Cahoon in Tea Cups and Carnage introduces us to a very realistic set of cozy players who combine to make the perfect recipe for murder. We are given the main characters, Greg, a good looking policeman, and his girlfriend,Jill Gardner, who runs the local coffee shop and tries to solve mysteries before her lawman boyfriend. Aunt Jackie is a bit overbearing; and Kathi, owner of the new tea shop, her sister Ivy, who seems to hate her; and chick-magnet Toby, plus Josh, Jackie's former boyfriend, all add depth and layers to the story. When the coffee shop comes up missing money and a dead body is found, both Greg and Jill are left to scramble separately to put the pieces together before another corpse appears.

Lynn recounts the action in such a way you will feel this could happen in your small town amongst any given group of business people. I was drawn into the action and readily identified with the coffee-loving business owner who was trying out a new idea. Frankly, I found most everything about the book interesting, from the idea of the main character owning a coffee shop, to the expansion of said shop into a beach truck, to selling books, to the mystery, to the romance, it is all just appealing.

Quotable:"You design a plan, implement it,then start over when it works or doesn't.You never really fail, you just find ways that don't work."

This is a book that DOES work, and I gratefully received it from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

In the latest adventure of the Tourist Trap mysteries, South Cove is planning a festival to bring customers into the stories during a slow period. Jill Gardener is busy keeping the store and the food truck fully staff. Aunt Jackie finds a missing check and both Jill and Jackie are looking for the answer. A new specialty shop called the Tea Hee is about to open and Jill is the liaison person who involves the owner into the town's activities. During the festival, a motorcyclist is raising havoc in the town and Aunt Jackie is almost run over by him. This makes more problems for Jill to handle. Greg has a murder case at a miserable motel. The topics are woven together expertly. I recommend this series.

I love Cosy mysteries set in small town America and this is the third book I’ve read in the Tourist Trap series. It’s nice to return to familiar characters and settings. Jill has bought a food truck to take her Coffee shop wares on the road to events. A new tea shop is opening and the business circle in place is keen to welcome them.
A murder is thrown into the mix and Jill is then in the middle of the investigation. You are drawn into the investigation with her.
It’s nice to settle down with a less gruesome murder investigation and with characters you already know.
The cover is really attractive and would draw me to pick the book.
I read that there is a new series due in the autumn and I will be eagerly awaiting it’s release.
With many thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the chance to read this one.

There is a new shop owner in town and her crazy family has followed her to town. When a body pops up, the question is which one of the family members is the guilty party? The characters are really fleshing out and becoming friends that you just can't wait to catch up with in the next book! The interpersonal relationships enhance the story line and bring an extra pizzazz to the plot. Definitely an entertaining book to spend an afternoon with!

This one in the series didn’t hold the same appeal for me as the previous ones did. You never meet the murder victim or really get to know much about him so it’s almost like watching the story unfold from afar. The characters that I’ve grown to love just didn’t do it for me in this one.

I would actually give this a 3 1/2 star. I enjoyed it but a couple things annoyed me, but that is me and probably wouldn't bother most. The story kept moving with a new shop owner in town, a crazy motorcycle driver, a shop clerk that is secretive, a missing check, and more. The mystery wraps up nicely in the end and I will continue on with this series.

Tea Cups and Carnage is the seventh book in the excellent Tourist Trap Mystery series and shows no sign of slowing down. There's a new shop owner in town, Texas beauty queen Kathi is set to open Tea Hee, a shop specializing in custom teas and tea sets. South Cove is just entering the tourist season with a beach festival weekend when a man is found dead in a motel just outside of town. Kathi and her sister Ivy are under suspicion and Jill works to clear them and find the real murderer.

First of all, I really liked Kathi. I think she'd be a great sidekick and BFF for Jill, unlike Darla, who just pumps her for information to report in her small newspaper, and Amy, who is kind of annoying. So I have high hopes that there is more of Kathi as the series goes along.

This series never disappoints, and this book was no different. There were several plots woven into the story, so the pace never let up. From the missing money to the mysterious sister to the murder, there was always something going on. I enjoyed that some of the minor characters were fleshed out a little more; it was nice that more dimension was added to the characters that frequently pop up in the series.

Also, whatever happened with the old mission? In the last few books, it has merited little or no mention.

Overall, another great addition to a great series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the whole series because it's hard not to fall in love with South Cove.

This is one of my favorite series and this installment doesn't disappoint. The town of South Cove is hosting a Beach Festival to draw in more tourists. With the arrival of vendors and tourists alike, there are also a few unsavory characters stirring up a whole lot of trouble, or could it be the new tea shop owner? Coffee, Books, and More owner, Jill finds herself asking questions about all the ruckus going on expecially the motorcyclist who almost ran over Aunt Jackie.

I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was a little different. Coffee shop owner, Jill seemed determined tnot to get involved in the murder investigation, she was more concerend about the motorcyclist causing chaos. This leads Jill to ask some hard questions and the answers she gets are quite surprising.

I feel a part of the story as I read and can almost smell the briney scent of the ocean. The author does a great job of setting the scene and bringing the characters to life. I really enjoy this series and look forward to reading more. I can't wait to read what happens next!

An ARC honest review for Kensington Books/Lyrical Underground via NetGalley.

This is the 7th book in the Tourist Trap mysteries.

Coffee, Books, and More owner Jill Gardner has got enough on her plate at the moment. What with the festival on the beach and them using their new outside catering van, a library evening with guest author, and being left to make the monthly report at the Shop Owners Association meeting at the Town Hall, and a fellow store owner asking her to keep an eye on his store while he is away.

With a new gal in town, a former Texas beauty queen who's planning on opening a tea and china shop across from Jill's place, several of her relatives also turning up in her wake, a missing $3.000 cheque, a group of bikers and a murder. And Aunt Jackie has fallen and sprained her ankle.

What else could possibly go wrong?

As always these books are an enjoyable lively read, well written and plotted.

I've only recently found this author, but already I've devoured all of the books in this series. So far, this is my favorite of the bunch. The characters feel more rounded in this installment and I like that very much.

I also like that in this book, Jill, while still being Jill and poking her nose into things, shared more with Greg and really only stumbled in to danger this time around. I like that much better than when the main character stubbornly sticks herself in a bad situation because she can't just pick up a phone and call for help!

One thing I have to admit that has grated on me through out the whole series is the lack of manners that most of the characters display. There's talk about being polite to customers, yet no one seems to ever say "please" or "thank you" when they ask for or receive something. In an earlier book Aunt Jackie even chides Jill about not saying please. Seriously, are manners dead??

I love this series and it continues to pull me in and want to move to South Cove (or somewhere similar!)

Jill and Greg's relationship looks like it might be hitting a high point - they both admit they don't want to date anyone else, so perhaps it the relationship will become more serious than it already is between the two.

The mystery portion was intriguing and I liked that some of the new characters were from Texas. While it wasn't easy to figure out who the killer was, there were some big clues that something was amiss with one of the characters.

And then there is Josh, the antique dealer from next door, that disappears for a week. You find out why at the end, but that was a mini mystery since we weren't sure if it was tied to the end of his relationship with Jackie or something else. Oh and Jackie has a surprise for you too!

All in all, I really like reading this series and can't wait for the next one.

Things are heating up in South Cove, California, especially as it's time for the Beach Festival and Coffee, Books and More shop owner Jill Gardner is excited to be showing off the company's new food truck!
Making it even more exciting is the new business that will be opening up, Tea Hee, featuring exclusive tea blends and tea accessories. Kathi Corbin is Tea Hee's proprietor and it seems she is happy settling in the little town of South Cove. When a body is found at the no-tell motel, it seems Kathi and her sister Ivy are the prime suspects.
Jill doesn't really have time to interfere in the investigation, but we all know that has never stopped Jill before!

Tune in June 7th to read all about Jill's latest investigation in this fantastic series by the very talented Lynn Cahoon!

I have enjoyed this series and like visiting South Cove, California and all of the characters. Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books and More, is a likable character as is her boyfriend, local lawman, Greg King, and the rest of the residents. Things are not staying status quo with some of the characters. Aunt Jackie and her new boyfriend Harrold are still an item and maybe more. Jill's store worker,Sasha is doing well in all areas of her life. Even sourpuss Josh Thomas, owner of Antiques by Thomas, has something going on that is a secret. It sounds like a fun and lovely little place to live on the the coast. This book was not my favorite of the series. There was lots going on and worth reading but I seemed to have a little trouble getting into it. That being said, I love the series and in reading a series, some books are better than others. I give it 3.5 stars.

Tea Hee

I just love the names of the businesses in books - they are always so clever. There's a new tea shop about to open in South Cove, California. It's name is Tea Hee. Adorable! The new owner, Kathi seems nice, but when her sister Ivy appears telling Jill not to trust her it makes Jill wonder if Kathi isn't what she seems.

Then there's another death and it's a question of whether Kathi or maybe even Ivy killed him. However, Jill is too busy to get involved in solving the mystery... sort of.

And who's the mysterious large man running amok on the sidewalks with his motorcycle practically hospitalizing several people? Jill has her sleuthing work cut out for her, that's for sure! That doesn't even include what has gotten into Josh. What's up with him? He's got his own mysterious attitude and then absence going on. That reminds me, I do think I'm finally beginning to like Josh. If you don't, you just may after reading this book!

Hey readers, I just want to mention what you may be missing with each of the book’s of this series and that’s the writing before Chapter One. There’s always a dedication page and Acknowledgements. Take a moment to read those! They tell us a bit more about the author. 😊

Since I’m currently reading the next book “Hospitality and Homocide,” Book 8, I am open to Cahoon’s Acknowledgments page now. Here’s a preview:
“I’ve always wanted to open a bed and breakfast. To open my home to strangers who just need a place to stay. A place to rest their heads. And as a bonus, I’d be required to bake every day. Bake treats that I could share with others. I think it would be a lovely lifestyle. As long as my guests are lovely, too. Alas, I’m more of an isolationist. I like my quiet time…”

Just those several sentences allow me a glimpse into who Cahoon is as a person and that makes me like this series even more.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy Jill’s town!

Coffee, Books and More owner Jill Gardner is looking forward to the opening of another new  store in Main Street, South Cove, California. Tea Hee will specialise in china tea sets, cups, and pots, all things she loves. Before the enjoyment of browsing though there is the small problem of a murder to solve and a biker intent on causing major disruption to identify.

With her neighbouring store owner acting even more strangely than usual, and a problem with her accounts, Jill is as run off her feet as boyfriend and South Cove detective Greg King. When staff numbers fall Jill finds herself covering shifts and running errands she thought she'd long passed on to others. Even with her experiences with previous cases Jill can't begin to imagine the dangers to come or why she may never get her hands on new cups and saucers.

This is the 7th Tourist Trap book and the first one I've struggled with. Usually the main protagonists and their everyday lives add to the whodunit elements seamlessly but this time Jill's Aunt Jackie was snippy and unpleasant and spoiled things for me. The identity of the biker didn't take much working out and by the end I felt distinctly unsatisfied although I do love the sound of the new store.

This is still a series I enjoy a lot, this installment not so much.

This book just wasn't up to Lynn Cahoon standards. It was OK, but the plot was lame. Jill seemed more concerned the mystery motorcyclist than she was with the murder. And don't even get me about the missing money. I would not have left the bank until they could provide me with an explanation. Then there is Aunt Jackie...who seems like more trouble than she is worth. Perhaps at some point Jill's affection for her will be explained.

A new business in town brings a former beauty Queen and her sister along with drama and murder. Jill of course is in the midst of it, what with missing money deposits, Josh going away for a week, a biker terrorizing the town, and grumpiness all around. My problem with Jill is her inability to express herself with Greg but she’s okay with him expressing himself, makes for a one sided manipulative relationship. Aunt Jackie gets on
My everlasting last nerves!!!!!!

I felt a big disconnect in this one. We didn't ever meet the murder victim. And a majority of the beginning of the book, the murder was very much in the background, with the MC not even investigating...since she had no real vested interest in it. Anyway, on to the next one. I got this one and the next two pretty low on the Kindle.

This was the first series I started from this author and remains one of my favorites. Set in a coffee and bookshop in northern California. Coffee and books could not fit my likes any better. This series is a light and entertaining cozy mystery!
