"Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right."
cute book, but something just didn't work for me, which doesn't mean it won't work with others. If you like YA paranormal give it a try, it very well might trip your trigger.
Book 1: This book is definitely YA. As a parent, if my daughter were 12 or 13, I would be ok with her reading this EXCEPT for the focus on weight. Like others, I would rather Kendra was more of a "I don't give a sh*t what you think" person than one who runs off and cries then takes something dangerous to lose all of the weight miraculously. The book is easy to read too so nothing overly complicated. For a teenager, there is the cute boy factor and some mystery, but nothing overtly inappropriate.
I got the book as part of the bundle so will read the other 2 books to see if this focuses on something more than Kendra's weight and the resulting bullying. I don't know if there is an underlying theme around the focus on her weight, but again, I would rather she stayed heavy and mayhap as time went on, she did slowly lose it if that is so important to the character's development. Otherwise, can we stick to the part where they are trying to save someone's life while defeating the bad witches and learning to become a witch too?
Book 2: The good news is that the characters stay true to form. Definitely still a YA book, but not something I would be leery of letting a younger teen read either. It is still a pretty quick and easy read. I found myself enjoying the story and the little twists. It picks up where the first ended, with Kendra and friends searching for the wand to heal her mom. Things don't go exactly as planned. Again, it ends with no major cliff hanger, but still allows for a continuation to the story.
Book 3: I've said it before, but worth repeating. This is definitely a YA book. I got stuck on that and expected more, but we seemed to have circled back to earlier issues. Kala wanted Penelope because she needed to be special. Her twin could not have a great boyfriend, be slim and good looking now too, and have a special wand as well. That would just not be fair so she needed a special wand and a special broom (which she seems to have easily mastered). She had the boyfriend, but that couldn't be easy, so we have some drama there too. Don't get me wrong, in the first book, I did like Kala, but found her a little too easily blind to things. Her friends behavior towards her sister being the main one. However, you could see that she really did care. She didn't change drastically, just my impression of her didn't improve. As a matter of fact, I found all of them worse than what I would have expected of teenagers. At 18, I definitely don't recall acting this way and feeling more like an adult than not.
This is still interesting in that I love books about magic, and teen books can be fun and easy to read. I just wish the characters would have grown too. Perhaps their time at the school could have been expanded without all of the angst about going in the first place. Everything happened so quickly, that they didn't get a chance to really see what being a witch could be about. Vivian being in the globe longer and probably driven mad with the need to get out would have been more satisfying too. She was like the bad character that just didn't go away. And when she did, it was a bit anticlimactic. Now, I did like how it happened since I figured they weren't going to resolve it by murdering her, but everything was just so short lived.
I fancy myself as a budding author (like so many others). So I try to read a wide range fiction. This book is definitely written for the YA crowd. I found the story pacing moved to fast and was very sophomoric. The younger generation will probably enjoy the story. I would not recommend this for adults and serious readers. I found the plot was thin and just found it difficult to keep my interest. Magic was treated as such that it could be performed with no training, it just seemed wrong to me. Just my opinion.
A dark urban fantasy adventure trilogy. Follow along as dark battles light evil versus good. And evil witch searching and trying to find her twin sister who is a white witch. The black which wants to kill her twin sister and her twin daughters. The twin daughters do not know they are witches or that their mother is a witch. Follow along on the adventure when they realize that they are which is in the battle begins. A great cast of characters and an extraordinarily well written storyline. Toss in a couple flying brooms, apparating, shape shifters and magic. How can you go wrong. Check it out.
I really enjoyed this series. The way the twins run in the family but can be so opposite is interesting. These two witches end up being right in the middle of their mother and auntie after their mother spent their whole life keeping them safe. Now it is their turn. They have a crash course introduction to magic then race ahead learning faster then they can be taught. I liked the idea of the 3 wands, an interesting concept. Many twists and turns, the shape shifters intrigued me. In total, a great read, thanks to the author.
Loved all three stories. The family values the love. Teaching ur kids what family really means even if not thru blood. The story kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat I just had to know what was going to happen. I'm glad it ended the way it did, I do believe there could have been more written but no cliffhanger so I'm good w the end.
Enchanting! I just love to get lost in the stories and lives in the books I read. These books are YA books about witches who didn't know they were witches and then the fight of good versus evil. Definitely a great read.
This is a fair read for a young girl. The pacing and presentation is appropriate for YA girls.
The grammar and writing style is easy middle school leven. Unfortunately, the author uses words she doesn't actually know, like many independent authors. It would be better to just leave them out.
YA. This set of books was free. By the middle of the second book, I knew they were duds, but slogged through because I 'm stubborn. The stories are slow and repetitious with not much plot or characterization or any believability. Not terrible, but not good.
Was short so left out some detail and to me ended too abruptly especially after getting the vision from the fae. Ok world building, interesting plot, some action and romance.
What happened at the end??? Reading on my phone and said 3 pages left to read!!! And it wouldn't let me read??? Ahhh... The last part I could read said Kendra and Kala mums hands turned red . Did she die??? Loved this story .
The plot is interesting, characters well presented, good world building and the story moves along quickly enough that the reader does not become bored.
Occasionally it becomes difficult to differentiate between characters and I became momentarily confused about which character was either speaking or being spoken about. For the most part the story could be read effortlessly but occasionally the wording and grammar were off and a bit awkward.
There are a few foul words, some kisses but otherwise it's clean.
