Carlita and Mercedes Garlucci have settled into their new life in Savannah and are eager to get their rental units occupied as well as their other businesses up and running, but the local permit officials are dragging their feet with delay after delay.
When Mercedes decides to help move things along by organizing a protest for justice in front of the local government offices, things go from bad to worse as one by one, all of the protesters become targets of vandals.
After the vandals ramp up the attacks, the mother and daughter duo vow to fight back despite having their hands full with an obnoxious tenant who could quite possibly cause Carlita to commit a crime of her own!
Will they discover who’s behind the attacks and stop them before someone gets hurt or will their dreams in Savannah become the stuff nightmares are made of?
In Justice in Savannah by Hope Callaghan, Carlita Carlucci and her daughter Mercedes have gotten everything ready to open their pawn shop, except that the city has been dragging its feet on issuing them their business license. Determining to picket City Hall, Mercedes rounds up all their neighbor friends and gets the news station to cover them, causing the mayor to demand an explanation for the delay from the administrator in charge of permits. The man stammers that he can't issue a permit without serious further investigation because he received an anonymous letter accusing Carlita of leading a drug ring from her home. The next day, Carlita discovers that someone has destroyed the ceramic statue in her courtyard, which begins a series of vandalism events in their neighborhood. These appear to be related to the effort to quash their pawn shop permit, but who is behind all these actions?

This is the first I've read by this author but it won't be the last! It comes across as small town or cohesive neighborhood working together to help new neighbors against local bureaucracy. Then the vandalism begins and must be investigated and stopped. Good writing and engaging characters make this a 5 star read. Valerie Gilbert really shines as narrator with her ability to make each character distinct and project the emotions.
This is another garlucci adventure. You have got to love these endearing characters andd plot twists. Love the recipes at the end of each chapter. Eating is such a large part of my Italian upbringing that my mouth waters as Carlita cooks. You dont have to be Italian to enjoy this series. Highly recommend this cozy mystery series,
Wonderful Series Justice in Savannah is the third book in Hope Callaghan’s Made in Savannah Cozy Mysteries Series and is a wonderful read. This book has a well thought out and interesting mystery to solve, with a good story line, and excellent character development. The writing style flows smoothly, the book is an easy read, and is filled with compassion and warm heartedness. There are enough twists, turns and suspects to hold the reader’s interest. This is a clean cozy mystery featuring no gratuitous sex, violence, or foul language. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment in this series and seeing how the characters and their relationships continue to develop. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a well-crafted cozy mystery.
Carlita Garlucci and her daughter, Mercedes, are settling into their new home in Washington Square in Savannah, Georgia. Carlita’s contractor, Bob Lowman, and his construction crew have finished the renovations of the remaining three apartments and Carlita asks Annie Dowton, the owner of Riverfront Real Estate, to help her find suitable tenants for two of the apartments. She’s still hoping her oldest son, Vinnie, will decide to join them in Savannah and wants to save one of the apartments for him. Carlita and Mercedes are upset that the city hasn’t approved their application for a license to operate a pawnshop in one of their buildings and their friends and neighboring business owners join forces to try to resolve the issue. When businesses in Washington Square start being vandalized, Carlita, Mercedes, and their friends, Steve and Autumn, set out to find out who is behind it.

Justice in Savannah: Made in Savannah Cozy Mysteries Series Book 3 is by Hope Callaghan. Carlita Garlucci and Mercedes have applied for a business license for their pawnshop. If they get the permit, maybe Vinnie will come down and run it. However, it has been over a month and still nothing. They can’t get a straight answer. Mercedes comes up with the idea to picket. They get several others in the square to picket with them. While they are there, Calvin Burell, the District Manager comes out to ask them why they are picketing. When they say Mr. Yates keeps blowing them off, Mr. Yates, who came out behind him explains they had received an anonymous note stating a drug ring was operating out of the building. Mr. Burrell says he will get to the bottom of this so they go home. Who is trying to sabotage their efforts to get a license? Meantime, they are being subjected to vandalism as are several other stores in the square. How can they figure out who is doing the vandalism? Is it Paradise Pawn who doesn’t want them there? Is it their new weird tenant, Elvira Cobb? Why now?
I loved this series. It was a fast-paced, cute, entertaining story. Of course, as I've said in my previous reviews for this series, I've listened to the audiobook versions and love Valerie Gilbert. She's a great narrator!
I did have two questions though:
1. Prior to Elvira getting the approval to move in, how was she able to get the power and water put in her name? Especially without having a copy of the rental agreement for the power/water companies which you typically need?
2. I never understood why Carlita thought the little girl (forgot her name) screaming the one night was that big of a deal? The first question that seemed to pop into her head had her wondering if the child was being abused by her mother.
Other than that, I can't wait to listen to book 4. :D
Justice in Savannah (Made in Savannah Cozy Mysteries Series Book 3)

Well, I totally recommend this mystery series because it is believable, good characters, good family and friend relationships that make me want to read more to see where the story will go. If anyone likes a good story line with believability and no bad language or innuendos, these are the ones for you. God bless all and especially Hope for another great series.
Carlita and Mercedes Garlucci are settled into their new home & waiting for the license to be approved so they can open their pawn shop. It appears to take longer than they think it should. Many adventures take place during this waiting time---a protest, neighborhood vandalism, a very interesting but annoying tenant and stake outs. Who's causing all the problems in the Walton Square neighborhood? You will be guessing up to the end! I am part of Hope Callaghan's review team and was gifted this book for an honest review. Her writing has never disappointed me!
Carolina and Mercedes are still struggling to get permission to open the pawn shop, but two more of the apartments are finished. Vandals are targeting the square and the owners must figure out why. The ladies have one sweet tenant and one......difficult one. The square's inhabitants are growing closer with few exceptions. Clean and engrossing cozy able to be shared with all.
How I love Hope Callaghan Cozy mysteries. They are so easy to read, the characters are down to earth and sometimes quirky. I love the addition of Elvira to the series. She is going to keep everyone on their toes. The descriptions of Historic Savannah makes me want to rent one of Carlita's apartments. All in all, I love everything about the book. A copy of this book was given in exchange for an honest review.
Hope Callaghan is a gifted writer. Her style and short paragraphs make Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery Series an enjoyable read. The saga of Carlita and her daughter Mercedes in beautiful Savannah continues. Hope Callaghan's descriptive writing, character development of Carlita, Mercedes and the Savannah Architectural Society, and a plot with unexpected twists and turns makes the reader wanting more. Received copy of this mystery for an honest review.
The adventure continues for Carlita and Mercedes in Savannah. As they precede in their attempts to open a pawn shop they encounter all kinds of problems. The license to operate gets stalled in paper work, someone is paying teenagers to vandalize the neighborhood. But Carlita and her friends band together to form a neighborhood watch and catch the culprits. Its good to have friends.
Justice in Savannah is the continuing story of Carleta and Mercedes. In this book they are looking for the person behind vandalism of some of the area shops. Read and see if they catch the culprit. I received this book as a gift in exchange for a review.
Life isn't easy for the Garlucci family when it comes to getting a license for their new business Savannah. There is more mystery to solve and more quirky characters in this episode. Ready for book 4. I especially appreciate author Hope Callaghan for writing books with not cursing. It's refreshing.
In book 3 Carlita and her daughter Mercedes run into some trouble along with their friends, grocery store owner and the tattoo shop as Carlita takes steps to seek approval for her pawn shop. This story is fast moving and the reader is kept wondering who is Carlita's enemy.
This series kept me interested but didn't make me love it so much that I couldn't put it down. I did like the characters however the story line just kind of plods along until you get to the next to last page then it quickly wraps up into a perfect package in the last page and a half.
I am enjoying the adventures of these ladies in Savannah! The culprit got me though, I didn't see that coming. Looking forward to joining their next adventure in the series!
Someone is targeting the local businesses in Walton Square, causing chaos and panic. Carlita has new tenants, is fighting for her business license, and stl trying to talk her son's into moving.
Keeps you guessing to the end. Looking forward to seeing what problems the new tenant causes. Will another family member move? Looking forward to the next book.
The characters are very charming and well developed. The setting is quaint Savannah. How fun is that! The book is a peaceful, pleasant and easy read. Exactly the kind of read many are looking for in these crazy times.
Have by now thoroughly enjoyed then whole series . the ladies are all quite believable with reasonable healing powers which is hard to find in many mysteries anymore and yet the plots have plenty of twists and turns to keep one guessing .
I'm loving these books. The twist and turns in the plot are crafty. I also love the characters. You get to know a little more about them with each book.
