I have enjoyed MaryLu Tyndall's books for years and she has always been a favorite, but she has absolutely outdone herself with this one! I especially appreciate how she includes spiritual warfare in her novels. Spiritual warfare is real. It exists and Christians need to be aware of what goes on in the spirit realm.

This book is set in the medieval time period, my absolute favorite era. MaryLu knocks this one right out of the ballpark . It is powerful, tremendous and full of intrigue, suspense, danger and heart pounding revelations.

In a time where people were taught that it was heresy to read the Scriptures for themselves, there lives in the forest, one young woman who has been taught by an humble friar that God's Word is for everyone and not just the elite of the church. She takes God's Word to her heart, memorizing it and allowing it to change her life and strengthen her for God's work.

Alexia has been hiding in the forest for years, because she has been thought long dead. However, she is intent upon rescuing her sister from the evil that resides in Castle Luxley. She does not know it yet, but there is greater evil afoot than she has ever thought.

Ronar, Knight of King's Guard, has been sent to Luxley, along with a high ranking bishop who intend to root out a long lost relic of the church. Ronar thinks he must do penance the rest of his life for a sin committed earlier in his life. He believes everything the church tells him, not realizing that God forgives the moment we ask.

I could barely tear myself away from the pages of this book as I read. It is powerful! The spiritual message contained here is powerful as well. We can boldly approach the throne of God for help in time of our need! He is there for us, mighty and powerful to run to our aid.

Tyndall has once again crafted characters that seem to jump off the pages and jump into our hearts, daring to convince us that they are real people. Her descriptions are terrific and her plot great! I loved roaming through the forest with her characters, walking through the castle as they seek to find the truth. I felt the evil as the powers of darkness threatened to cover those that were loved by Alexia.

Don't miss this one. And there are more to follow!! If you love the age of chivalry, the thrill of victory in the Spirit, this is your book!! I can't say enough good about it.

I've been meaning to read a MaryLu Tyndall book for a while now, and I decided to start with this one as an audiobook I found at the library. It's pretty cool. A historical fiction with a little bit of influence from Robin Hood (can't you tell by the cover?) and Beauty and the Beast. There was a little magic involved too, in the form of a Holy Christian Relic, angels, demons, and demonic sorcery. Not exactly magic, more like God's blessings of sight into the spiritual world for the main characters and evil sorcery for their enemies.

I enjoyed the romance and the danger. The evil schemes that almost succeeded. The contrast between people who truly follow God and the "ordained priests" who only serve Him in name while taking advantage of the power the status gives them.

In this dynamic story that reminded me of The Three Musketeers combined with Robin Hood, Tyndall takes readers on a medieval adventure like no other they have ever experienced! Alexia is Protector of the Spear, an object with divine powers that enables her to be nearly invincible in helping God's people, fighting injustice and watching over her sick sister from a distance from an evil power that wants to end the D'Clere Legacy, Alexia's family. With the help of a friar who rescued Alexia when she was a child and taught her to survive both physically and spiritually, she is determined to find the cause of her sister's sickness and surrounding evil while doing the will of God.

Along comes Ronar, a noble knight on the king's mission with his two friends, protecting Bishop Montruse who has his own unholy motives in approaching Castle Luxley. Will Ronar help Alexia fight the evil in Luxley or will he be convinced that Alexia is an untrustworthy heretic who needs to be turned in? Ronar is also determined to find the Spear and submit it to the king to as an effort to pay penance for his sins. Will he discover what God's love is really about?

I was slightly uncomfortable with some of the villains in the story and even though I was eager to see Alexia succeed, I didn't fully connect with her character. I loved her fearlessness and her courage in being there for her sister even as they were both surrounded by danger, but there were a few times I didn't understand her recklessness.

My favorite character was the friar and loved his fatherly relationship with her! He gave the story humor, faith, wisdom, and I truly appreciated how he protected Alexia as well as guided her when she loses her senses to fear. Even Ronar catches on to her fear and knows how to calm her down patiently.

I really enjoyed the spiritual aspect of this story, I totally understood the supernatural world described in the plot and the danger of what religion will do to a person. I also recommend everyone who reads this book reading the author's note at the end, it explains her beliefs regarding the story and I fully agreed with those thoughts.

The other two knights in the story were also a treat. Their courage, honor, and friendship pleased me. Each of these knights are flawed men, but still heroic and eager to help when revelations are made known. I got the impression that their stories will be next in the series and I look forward to learning more about them.

Tyndall is mostly known for her exotic pirate adventures, which are always fun and action packed, so when I found out she was writing a medieval story, I was definitely excited to be a reviewer! Even though this was not a five star read for me, it's still a tremendous book that goes deeper than other medieval fiction I've enjoyed and encouraged me as well. The ending was one of the best endings ever done! Tyndall has proven herself yet again as a master storyteller!!

Venture if you dare, back into medieval England to encounter valiant and roguishly handsome knights atop their Destriers, weapons at the ready as they go about the King’s business. Beware however, of the deep, dark shadows hovering among the forest trees and castle walls where even the most accomplished of knights will need to learn a new way of fighting.

Hidden in the Emerald forest since she was twelve for her own safety, Alexia D’Clere has been under the tutelage and guidance of a godly Friar— studying the Holy Scriptures, honing her ability to see and move in the spiritual realm, and mastering the bow and arrow. For upon Alexia, was the crucial task of protecting the Spear of Destiny—a powerful, holy relic, that was entrusted to Alexia for safekeeping. Her striking archery skills and agile ability to fly through the King’s forest to hunt and provide food for the hungry villagers, has her branded a thief and named the Falcon of the Emerald Forest. When an important Bishop arrives at Luxley Castle on a mission to find the Spear, the evil permeating the Castle darkens. Her life and others are in grave danger, and Alexia must learn to rise above her fear to allow the Spirit of God to work.

Three of the King’s elite knights, including the perfectly heroic Sir Ronar LePeine, first happened upon the mysterious and beautiful flame-haired warrior and her particularly pointy arrows in the forest, while accompanying the Bishop to Luxley Castle. Ronar is then surprised to see the enchanting outlaw disguised as a servant girl, at the Castle later. Why would she risk her freedom to be discovered, and as he soon finds out—to look after the sick Lady of Luxley Castle? Ronar is torn between exposing Alexia and gaining penance for the guilt of his many sins, or finding out more about this intriguing and captivating woman. His fascination with Alexia is set to overturn his world and he may just find himself in a spiritual battle of epic forces!

Wow, what a journey! Transcending not only back through the ages but also unveiling a spiritual realm we too often forget about. The vivid descriptions positioned me amidst the stone walls of the castle and within the mossy, verdant forest; the inspirational message reminds me to seek God’s wise counsel instead of allowing emotions to guide me; and the excitement had me holding my breath and then almost had me shouting aloud “Huzzah!” A highly recommended not-to-be missed experience!

She Walks in Power #1 Protector of the Spear series***** by MaryLu Tyndall

MaryLu Tyndall takes us back to the Middle Ages of England where we encounter Kings, Earls, Lords and Ladys, humble Friar, noble Knights, young maidens, villages, spiritual warfare, and even an evil warlock. We are thrust in the middle of a time when it was hearsay for anyone to read the Scriptures—Bible—except for the chosen Priests. I appreciate the way spiritual elements are very much part of the story, evident in the lives of the characters—whether they are believers..followers of Christ...or not—including spiritual warfare and God's unwavering faithfulness and love.

I love the main characters...Alexia D'Clere and Ronar LePeine. I love how feisty Alexia is, her strength, loyalty to family, faith and trust in God and dedication to protecting that which was intrusted to her despite the possible risks to her own life. Ronar is an honorable, loyal and courageous Knight, I love his integrity and his heart for others. I so enjoyed the interaction and sparks between Alexia and Ronar. The humble Friar is another favorite character. I love the way he cares for Alexia and how he mentors her in her spiritual walk and the task she has. Ronar's fellow knights, Jarin and Damien are just as loyal and courageous as Ronar—will not say more and spoil it for other readers.

This fantastic medieval story captured me from the first page taking me on a journey filled with integrity, suspense, danger, laughter, joys, sorrows and grief, secrets—including secret rooms, intrigue, fears, spiritual realm, faith and so much more. From the vivid descriptions I felt as though I was souring through the trees of the forest with the elusive Falcon, riding across the lands on horseback and dining with Knights at an elaborate meal. I think this is MaryLu's best book yet and I await patiently—maybe not so patiently for the next book in the series.

~I received an e-book ARC of this book from the author (no monetary gain were exchanged), this is my honest review~

She Walks in Power is a thrilling battle of light vs. darkness wrapped up in a remarkable romance story set in medieval times. The unconventional heroine battles the evil men who have taken over the lands she holds dear. Ronar, the hero is a stalwart knight who deftly guards a bishop on a mission from the king. From their first meeting, the chemistry between Ronar and the Falcon, as the locals call the heroine, is undeniable. Though enemies, respect and admiration grow on both sides. Can the Falcon make the knight realize he’s dedicated his life to serving the wrong King?

Loaded with adventure, a sinister plot, and characters that quickly garner your respect, She Walks in Power, is a book you’ll find hard to put down. Angels vs. demons aren’t a topic often touched on in Christian fiction, but Marylu Tyndall never whitewashes the power of God. Many of her books clearly show the power Christians have over the evil one, and that supremacy is clearly evident in her fabulous new book, She Walks in Power. Don’t miss reading this exciting medieval tale.

This book is so much more than fiction! It covers a lot of deep issues that we all can relate to in our daily lives!

Tyndall dove straight to an issue that many would not want to know or read about. But the spiritual realm is very much a reality. Satan and his demonic forces are just as real. This book is so much more than good verses evil. There's a lot of power in this book! I could feel it as I was reading it!! MaryLu wrote something that I applaud and appreciate.

Yes, she has written some romance elements in this book. There also is a part a lot of virgins struggle with remaining pure. Tyndall gently writes about this and explains why it's so important to wait.

I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!

My first reaction when I saw this book on Amazon was to be apprehensive of yet another girl Robin Hood type spin off. Indeed, it was the fourth such story published in eighteen months (since March 2015).
Yet I gave this a chance, and purchased it with some Amazon credits, because I have a weakness for Medieval Fiction and it was said to be more of a fantasy story. I'm getting back into the genre, though I believe that fantasy is best when it’s set in an entirely invented world. That way, it’s not bound by the rules, or history of our own world. Fictional countries can have their own laws, customs, language, history, culture, social structure and have mythical and supernatural elements alongside the everyday.
They can have anything. Interestingly, the woman on the cover looked oddly familar, then it clicked: she's almost exactly the same as Tauriel from The Hobbit movies- right down the slightly pointed ears.

description

Perhaps the comparison is apt- the heroine's ability with a bow is superhuman, and she turns out to have special powers. On the whole this turned out to be a decent adventure story and an interesting spin on the old Robin Hood stories. To be honest, it had to offer something different to stand out from the others.
Until the end, I enjoyed this a little more than I have previous books by this author. It could have been better though, and there was some unnecessary silliness, like the bare-chested fencing scene, which was clearly put in just so the heroine Alexia could see the hero Ronar in the buff as well as knights wearing what I call ‘butter armour’ which could be sliced through in a single stroke. Add to that a few clichés of Medieval Fiction, like filth, squalor and dirty helpless peasants who did not seem to know how to grow their own crops so they were dependent upon the heroine.

Had it followed the conventions of the fantasy genre more closely, it could have been better.
However, I believe the author made a serious error in setting a fantasy story in a real time and place- England in some vague version of the Middle Ages. Something had to give, and in this case, it was historical and to some extent geographical accuracy.
One example was the inordinate number of Pine trees in Medieval England. We do have them in England, but there were no large pine forests in the Middle Ages. Trees like Oak, Beech and Elm are indigenous species far more common in English woodland, but there were almost none of them here.
Also, whilst the descriptions of wildlife were generally accurate, there was one reference to a raccoon. There are not, nor have there ever been populations of racoons running wild in Britain. Even wolves were extinct by the 14th century, so I doubt people would have believed stories about three people being killed by them in the same area and a short space of time.

On the historical side whilst some research was done, perhaps a lot much of the story fell far short. I really do wish authors would do their research on Medieval English Law, as well as Church law. At one point Alexia was accused of witchcraft’ and was going to be burned on the say so of a Bishop. No, only a church court could convict a person of heresy- and you could not legally be condemned as a traitor or proclaimed an outlaw without due legal procedure either. Nor was it ever ‘treason’ to kill the Kings’ Deer.
It was against the Forest Laws, which applied only to the Forest. Nor was it High Treason to help a prisoner escape or steal a Relic. High Treason meant trying to kill or physically harm the King, taking up arms against him, siding with his avowed enemies, or seducing his wife or daughter. I’m getting very tired of reading about characters being charged with ‘treason’ for so much as sneezing in the King's presence.

description

Nor was it ‘treason’ to Read the Bible. It was not heresy either. Now, I’m no lover or apologist of the Catholic Church, but I do believe in accuracy. Medieval Catholics did not believe the Pope was ‘divine’ as was claimed in this novel- I’m not even certain what that’s meant to mean. Nor were they banned from reading or quoting the Bible- they had Psalters and Prayer books for goodness sake! They certainly would not have considered it ‘Blasphemy’ to talk about the Holy Spirit, or believe in the Indwelling of the Spirit. They believed certain people were indwelled by the Spirit- one being the King.

Oh, but of course, Friar Josef and Alexia, who were meant to represent true Bible Believing Christians rejected the idea that the King was God’s anointed because according to them 'we are all appointed of God'. By the end, the formerly faithful subjects are happy to be outlawed because they believe the King to be ‘unrighteous’ and so unworthy of thier loyalty and service.
That's not in any version of the Bible I have read. In fact it says “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God”. (Romans 13:1-2) and “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether a King as one in authority or to governors sent by him to punish evildoers” (1 Peter 2:13).
OK, I get that this is by an American who is most likely anti-monarchy, but I think this content owes more to her own ideas than Holy Writ. I don't believe we should say something is Biblical when its really only what our society deems to be right and true.

I fear this was one of those Medieval Fiction stories written because it’s the ‘in thing’ and ‘cool’ at the present time. People believe what they read in Historical Fiction, and so I believe authors owe it to them to accurate. Yes, there is a sound Gospel message in here, but I would not agree with everything, nor is everything correct.
Those who want to write about spiritual warfare, which is the main theme of this one would find plenty of room for it in the Fantasy or non-fiction subgenres.

This is the first book I’ve read by MaryLu Tyndall and it was quite enjoyable. I’ll be sure to follow this series (Protectors of the Spear) as well as go through her backlist of books to enjoy the action-filled, plot-driven stories filled with adventure. This first book in the series combines fluid writing, plenty of medieval-style combat, flawed yet beautiful characters, power of faith and the realm of the unseen supernatural to weave a striking tale of good overcoming evil.

Alexia, the self-exiled and hidden mistress of the manor whom everyone believes is dead, is an expert archer with a gift of discernment. Ronar is a King’s Guard tasked with the unpleasant duty of escorting a bishop to the manor on an errand for the king. They find themselves caught in a dark and ominous web of lies, betrayal, and deceit as evil descends further into Alexia’s former home and they try to fight it together. Though they’re both seasoned and tough warriors, their romance is quite sweet and tender and Ronar’s vulnerability is especially heart-wrenching. There are, of course, the typical medieval characters, like corrupt nobles and clergymen as well as the righteous and loyal clergymen and knights, and holy relics that are being sought after. I can’t wait to read the next in the series to find out what happens!

If you enjoy historical romance with a bit of supernatural, you will enjoy this book. I received the book from the author/publisher via Interviews and Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Clean Medieval Romance

“Draw your strength from within, Alexia. Not from what you feel, but from what you know. The truth you know. Feed your fear to the truth.”

She Walks in Power is a story about A seer with a secret, in hiding -on a mission to follow the spirit and do Gods work, and try to put the pieces of her broken home back together again. And a knight with a past, with a mission of his own. As these two cross paths, they realize over time, they have a lot more in common than either one could imagine.

This was my first Tyndall book and I think I have a new auto read author. Writing was beautiful, plot was well developed along with its characters. I loved the way she weaved in faith and spiritual warfare throughout it and she didn’t hold back on truth. Our main characters were raw and had incredible depth. Their romance was built over time- I’d definitely call it an enemies to lovers and give it an A+. The warfare was portrayed so effortlessly, it was like raising a curtain from dark to light. I thoroughly enjoyed it- Medieval times are always fun to read including the spiritual aspects totally raised the bar!! We need more books like this! Highly recommend!!

Power is an understatement!

MaryLu Tyndall has woven yet another tale that grabs you from the start and keeps you reading until the end. I cannot get over how much I enjoyed this story. Medieval knights, maidens, villages....throw in an evil warlock and you have the makings of a thrilling ride. This story has characters that are so real, you will find yourself totally mesmerized by them. You can't help but cheer them on.....hoping that all will work out for them.
Ronar, a great knight to be sure and Alexia, the feisty lady that keeps him guessing, will have you smiling from ear to ear. I truly adore them. And don't get me started on Ronar's fellow knights, Jarin and Damien....and the friar!
I will say no more, for I do not wish to spoil ANY of this fantastic story for other readers.

I was asked to read this book by the author in exchange for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to give a positive review.

Oh my gracious! Ms. Tyndall has outdone herself with this first book in the Protectors of the Spear series. After many wonderful books about pirates, she has moved backwards to the Middle Ages.
Alexis D'Clere has a secret mission - she is the Protector of The Spear. Others know her as the Falcon of the Emerald Forest - one who protects and provides for those in need. With great skill and a faith that exceeds her skill, this young archer protects more than just the spear. At a time in history when darkness abounded in the church as well as the common man, can the faith of one help the faith of others and thus light their world? Warlocks, curses, poisons and greed abound. Can those flickering lights of faith win this battle?

Oh. My. Goodness. Talk about an incredible book! I've been a fan of MaryLu Tyndall's from her first series, but this one really shines. I was hooked from the first page to the last, unable to put it down. Not only is it filled with MaryLu's signature adventures, but she weaves in such a deep spiritual battle that had me on the edge of my seat. Then there are the amazing characters! Alexia is strong, devoted, and has a large heart. She cares deeply for those around her, though sometimes her emotions can get the better of her. Then there's Ronar, a knight desperate to do good, to atone for his past. So, when he meets Alexia, he can't understand why he is kind to her, even helps her, when she stands between him and his mission. They are so equal in intelligence, both skilled in strength, and were such a delight to read! While I love a good swoon-worthy, romantic knight (and don't worry, Ronar does have his moments), it is also fun to read wills clash as each attempts to fight his or her own feelings for the other, and MaryLu's dialogue just shines! Add in some truly evil villains, a few valiant friends, a battle greater than any on earth, all set in beautiful medieval England. This is a stunning novel, with a wonderful romance, a heart pounding adventure, a great spiritual battle, and a book I highly recommend.

She Walks in Power is an interesting blend of a medieval setting, church history, and spiritual warfare. Being previously unfamiliar with MaryLu Tyndall's writing, I did enjoy her pacing and structure. It also seems fitting that I would read this book in the year we will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, because Tyndall takes on the corruption of the church with it's relics, indulgences, and its withholding of the Word of God from the common people. Without denying that we are engaged in spiritual warfare (Eph 6:12), at times the story included elements of mysticism I found unsettling and unbelievable.

I loved this walk through the Middle Ages. The book exposes the reader to spiritual warfare-darkness against light. Love, revenge, secrets, superstition...it's all there in the spell binding pages. And MaryLu set it up for a sequel..I hope!

She Walks In Power by MaryLu Tyndall is a marvelous Christian historical fantasy adventure. It is the first book in the Protectors Of The Spear series which promises to be fabulous.
Life is a spiritual battle. There is so much more than we can see, hear and touch. The powers of God wrestle with demons. “When the night horrors come, read this [God’s Word] aloud.” We need to defeat evil with faith and by standing firm on the Word of God. At His name the demons will flee – fight the enemy by saying the name of Jesus.
The action is set in the Middle Ages. At this time the Bible was in Latin and it was believed that a priest was needed to quote the Word of God. We do not need anyone to stand as a bridge between us and God because of the sacrifice of Jesus. We can boldly approach God’s throne. “You don’t need to pray to a dead saint nor pay for your sins.” We need no third party. We can go straight to the Father because of the Son.
We need to tune into the voice of God. We must not let our emotions or our fears drown out the voice of God. “Feed your fear to the truth.” When we have faith, there is no room for fear.
Some believe that for prayers to be heard we need to make them elaborate. Prayer is merely a conversation with God and should be as natural as breathing. “They [the prayers] were simple and forthright as if God Himself sat around the fire with them.”
The story has a supernatural element to it. There is much that we do not understand but we do know that God can be trusted. We need to keep our eyes on the Light and remember that God has defeated all the powers of darkness “ ‘Can you not put out this light of His?’ ‘He is the light.’ “
There is the theme of trust. We can trust God and sometimes He places something in us because He trusts us to do the right thing. This is an honour but it can feel overwhelming at times. We need to fix our eyes on Him and remember that our race is not that of an individual but it is a relay race. We need to be mindful of others running with us.
She Walks In Power was a thrilling adventure. It was a departure from my usual time period and genre, having not read much fantasy before. I loved it. There were elements of both Robin Hood and the three musketeers. Over all of the action was the voice and heart of God. There were many lessons to be learnt. I cannot wait for the subsequent books.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Sometimes with so-called Christian authors (or far leftist political folks too, its on both sides of the spectrum, I'm not just accusing one of this), they are focusing way too much about plugging an agenda and not about their own story.

This one appears to be pushing a very big anti-Catholic thing.

Like, I don't mind books being pro a certain religion...I just don't like when they use one religion to purposefully put down another. MOST TIMES the religion being put down is the Catholic religion.

Not that there's not precedence: Mark Twain was WILDLY anti-Catholic after all. The entirety of "A Yankee in King Arthur's Court" is meant to be as anti-Catholic as possible as it was written during the time many Irish, German, and French Catholics were immigrating to the USA and the mostly protestant population was NOT AT ALL happy about that.

Honestly there's such a history of anti-Catholicism in the United States...Like, they had their property burned, some of them were killed for being Catholic, the KKK even went after them...

But people just don't talk about it because I guess it's not important to them.

SHRUGS.

My point is: I could have handled the book if it was just "pro-Christian whatever". There was a good enough story to still support that. But it insisted on being anti-Catholic to the point where it claimed things that AREN'T TRUE AT ALL about the Catholic religion just to try and prove its own point. And...IDK about you guys, but I feel like it's bad to promote a book that spreads lies about ANY type of religion just to make their own religion look better.

I think it sets a bad example if we really want people to get along in the world.

Like: I was onboard with her going after the fact that there were corrupt priests because: YEAH. THAT'S A THING. AND THEY SHOULD BE PUNISHED. But it went from saying "the church needs to clean house" to "Catholicism is a religion of guilt and misery and is completely corrupt and bad etcetera etcetera, all the good guys are going to be Protestant, all the bad guys are Catholics".

And that's...just...

IDK.

Annoying? Insulting? Sort of upsetting?

Look, I wish the author the best, and clearly a lot of people like her work, but I just can't support an author who tries to make her own religion look better by saying that another religion is "bad".

I'm not going to give any stars because I didn't finish the book, but...

Why can't we all just get along, folks?

SHE WALKS IN POWER is INCREDIBLE! High praise from a person who stays away from the medieval/mythical genre.

Alexia D’Clere is many things, but being Protector of the Spear is by far her highest honor. Passed to her at the age of eight—it is an honor that comes with both responsibility and danger; something she knows all too well.

After the death of her parents, Alexia and her sister are elevated to caretakers of their family castle, along with a trusted steward. But, when Alexia becomes the target of a murder plot, a friar who knows the responsibility she shoulders, spirits her away to live in the forest. Once there, Alexia learns the ways of archery and comes to be known as The Falcon of Emerald Forest. She is a Robin Hood figure to the townspeople of the local village, providing them with game and sharing Scripture even though it is considered criminal for anyone outside of the church to read God’s Holy Word. But Alexia knows there is comfort in God’s Word and refuses to be silenced. Though Alexia would like nothing more than to go back to the castle of her birthright, not knowing whom it is who wants her dead, keeps her incognito. Though her life is in danger every time she goes near the castle, she refuses to stay away because of her ailing sister.

So, as you can see, Alexia wears many hats: Protector of the Spear, The Falcon of Emerald Forest, heir to a castle, provider to the local village. Somehow, she manages to balance her many roles without the slightest trouble; that is, until she meets Ronar LePeine, one of the King's elite guards.
Guard Ronar LePeine, along with his two closes friends, is escorting Bishop Godfrey to Luxley Castle. The Bishop is convinced The Spear of Destiny is hidden there and is determined to find it. While traveling through the Emerald Forest, Alexia decides the Bishop’s band of men have gotten too close to the hiding place of the spear. She sets out to distract the elite guardsmen and ends up coming face to face with Ronar.

From their very first encounter, Alexia and Ronar are befuddled with each other. At first, they want nothing more than to best each other. Alexia is determined to protect the spear from Ronar, the Bishop, and anyone else who searches for it, while Ronar is sure the forest sprite is up to no good because of her mastery of deception and her knowledge of the Scriptures. However, the attraction these two feel for each other is undeniably scintillating.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Marylu has an amazing way of building such chemistry between her characters; it wouldn’t matter if the story took place in a forest, a castle, or a shoe store. It is that good! The concept was brilliant, and Ms. Tyndall’s attention to detail in creating her world was flawless. The repartee between Alexia and Ronar is so incredibly delicious; you can’t help but smirk as these two banter in a battle of wits—a battle neither of them realizes is based more on attraction then one-upmanship.

SHE WALKS IN POWER is another amazing book from Marylu Tyndall. I am convinced; no one writes Adventure/Romance likes she does. The only unfortunate thing about finishing SHE WALKS IN POWER so quickly . . . the time I have to wait until the next installment.

She Walks in Power is the first book in a new medieval romance series called "Protectors of the Spear" by MaryLu Tyndall.  I have been eagerly awaiting this new release and I am so pleased that it is finally here! Fans of Tyndall may worry that this isn't a pirate book like most of her others, but I can assure you that it is still phenomenal.  Also, there seems to be quite the trend recently with young adult red-headed heroines in the Christian fiction market.  Authors including Jody Hedlund, Melanie Dickerson, and now MaryLu Tyndall have all recently released novels with this in common, but again, I can assure you that this book is still worth the read; it stands out among the rest and is in fact my favorite of the three.

The novel centers around a girl of noble birth who is hiding out in the woods since an assassination plot on her life almost a decade before the book begins.  She is a follower of Christ and has been gifted with a spirit of discernment, which may be disconcerting for some readers, but I believe in it and loved to see it interwoven into current fiction.  Anyway, this girl, Alexa, was entrusted by her mother with the spearhead that pierced Christ's body to ensure he was dead on the cross.  This has been passed down through the ages in the story, and is now protected by Alexa.  Alexa is also a Robin Hood type figure, who hunts in the forest where she lives for food for nearby villagers.  She also tries to keep crime low and morale high.

Ronar is a local knight who happens to be traipsing through Alexa's forest one day.  Naturally, she attacks him, and naturally, he fights back and tries to catch her before realizing that she is a woman.  This catches both of them off guard: Ronar isn't used to being ambushed, and Alexa's not used to being caught.  The story that ensues from this meeting follows the two as they try to follow God, defeat evil, and per the series title, protect the spear.

I have been a fan of MaryLu's writing for many years now, and I must say that this is one of her best books yet.  I loved, loved, loved the spiritual aspects woven in, the characters were so fun to read about, and the plot was very unique.  The only thing that I could complain about was that the story's narration jumped to and fro from four or five different characters--some of which weren't even main characters.  It was very confusing and frustrating, but not enough to dissuade someone from reading the book over.

Thank you so much to the author for providing me with a electronic copy of this book to read and review.  All opinions are my own and were not required to be positive.

I love all of MaryLu Tyndal’s books. She is a great writer, brings her characters alive before your eyes, you watch their actions and listen to them talk, and this book is no exception…..plus she always bring faith and christian principles into her books.
The setting is in medieval times, kings, knights, friars and bishops. A time where only the priests had the written word and it was heresy for the common man to have access to the word of God. Alexia D’Clere lives in the forest with an humble friar who rescued her when her life was threatened. She and her sister are orphans, but she had to leave her sister behind. Alexia has long been thought dead and she wants it to stay that way. Now her sister’s fate is to be married to the son of the man that wanted her dead. Alexia disguises herself and enters the castle to help her sister who is ill and to escape the evil that is there. . Ronar, along with other knights has been sent to Luxley, along with the king’s bishop to recover a lost spear of the church. This spear was given to Alexia’s mother before she died, so they feel sure it must be hidden somewhere at Luxley. Ronar thinks he must do penance the rest of his life for a sin he committed earlier in his life. He believes everything the church tells him. He doesn’t know the word and does not know if he repents, God will forgive his sins. On their way to Luxley, they meet up with this forest Sprite and thus begins a battle between them and also the evil that lurks at the castle. A most interesting and riveting tale of romance, suspense and spiritual awakening………

Medieval Enchantment!

Author MaryLu Tyndall takes the reader on an exhilarating medieval journey through lush, verdant forests teeming with game and wild berries, muscular, courageous knights, and evil lurking behind every moss-covered tree.

At the age of eight, Alexia D'Clare makes a promise to her dying mother to become Protector of the Spear. But as she accepts the tiny metal object and begins to take over her parents' castle, someone plots to take her life. Whisked away to the forest by a friar, she learns to shoot a bow and arrow with expertise, and to be able to discern the spirit realm. Providing the village folk with meat and secretly caring for her ill sister who lives in the castle, throws Alexia in the path of the fierce and handsome knight, Ronar, one of the King's Guards. This lovely red-headed Falcon of the Emerald Forest enchants him as no other, but together they must face the greatest battle of all...a spiritual battle which tests the very limits of their faith and endurance.

Get ready for a breathtaking, heart-pounding journey filled with exciting battles—both spiritual and physical—knights, evil villains, and toe-curling romance, of course! I was a bit leery of reading about demonic forces until I stopped to think that we are surrounded by them every day...and would be in constant terror if we had the capability to see them! And it's good to be reminded in this amazing novel how to fight them. The author's use of descriptive imagery was so powerful that I felt as though I were watching the battles between good vs. evil taking place in the dark, shadowy castle and amongst the thick shrubbery, ginormous trees, and sparkling waterfalls of the emerald forest. Captivating, enchanting, and heart-racing—a novel I highly recommend!

She Walks in Power by MaryLu Tyndall is an amazing Medieval Historical Romance/Fantasy Romance /Christian Romance/Clean Romance. Book 1 in "Protectors of the Spear" set against the backdrop of Castle Luxley. A "Medieval Romance surrounding the Spear of Destiny!"

What an amazing start to what promises to be an absolute intriguing series!

Meet, Alexia D'Clere, the Protector of the Spear, with red, flaming hair and a spirit to match and Ronar LePeine, an elite guard of the King's, who only wishes to pay penance for his past sins, do his duty to God and King. Until he and Alexia join forces.

Evil lurks in the Castle Luxley, a spiritual battle will bring danger to both Ronar and Alexia, while they fight to save the castle's occupants, the village, and protect the "Spear of Destiny".
Can Alexia and Ronar find their HEA, fight an evil warlock and Alexia survive an assassination plot?

A fast paced adventure, to be sure! The characters are engaging, flawed, enigmatic, and well developed. The storyline is unique, intriguing and utterly fascinating.

Ms. Tyndall has written a refreshing story of spiritual adventure. One that is a bit of a detour from her usual pirate stories or her stories of high sea adventure, she has done a magnificent job of world building, character development and written in a biblical sense. Fantastic storytelling!

A story of the spirit realm, an evil warlock, the Spear of Destiny, faith, assassination plots, secrets, romance and the power of love.

An absolute delight from beginning to the last page! Fans of Fantasy, Medieval Romance, chivalry, uniquely written adventure, Clean Romance and intrigue, will enjoy "She Walks in Power".

Ms Tyndall is a brillant and masterful storyteller, no manner what genre she writes. Compelling, powerful, captivating and mesmerizing, as well as, intriguing. A must read! An absolute fantastical adventure! I absolutely loved "She Walks in Power"! I can hardly wait for Book 2.
Received for an honest review. However, all opinions, insights and thoughts are my own personal opinions.

An absolutely incredible medieval romance!

I loved the depth of main characters and their individual pasts that are presented over the course of the story. Both Alexia D’Clere and Ronar LePeine have been through very hard times and that has shaped who they are at the start of the book. Alexia’s past is presented in bits and pieces from the very beginning. Ronar’s integrity and character is shown and painted in great detail and then much later we are told about his past that drives him to be the way he is.

Throughout the novel there is a war going on between good and evil in the spiritual realm and there is never any doubt as to which character is on which side of this battle. I was captivated by the development of this battle and how both Alexia and Ronar grew in their understanding of God’s power and the need to trust in Him. I also liked the fact that they each had strong supportive friends that helped them right from the start.

There is a warlock and manifestations of demons so if this is something you don’t want to read about you may want to skip this book.

I received a free eBook copy of this novel from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

“She Walks in Power” is a new twist to MaryLu Tyndall’s writing! We are not setting sail in a nautical swashbuckling novel, but trailing through a novel of mythical medieval times! Alexia D’Clere is the Protector of the Spear who didn’t want to take on this task, but was given to her on important circumstances from her dying mother at such a young age. Shortly after, she is hidden away in the forest by a friar when someone wants to murder Alexia. Growing up, Alexia learns to shoot with a bow and arrow and learns God’s law to what the Church’s law by men teach. Ronar LePeine is a knight guard who is set on doing his duty to God, king of London, and trying to pay penance for his past sins.

Throughout this medieval novel I enjoyed reading and could relate to many different scenarios the adventures Alexia and Ronar went through. Like Alexia with her good qualities in life, I am devoted, determined, spirited, and kind. Then I can relate to Alexia when her emotions can get the best of her and where she is stubborn to get something accomplished when there is a better solution God wants to be done. With Ronar, I grew up also thinking/believing in order to be good and earn my way to God one needed to be a ‘Good Person’ doing ‘Good Deeds’ to outweigh their sins. I can even relate to when growing up, I was told the Holy Bible was only meant for priests, bishops, or pastors (whomever taught), and for everyone else wouldn’t understand it. Anyways, I can’t wait till the next two come out! Read to see what happens with Alexia and Ronar when faced with danger and how they put their trust in God!

She Walks in Power reminds me of many great stories all rolled into one! It is like Robin Hood, The Sword in the Stone, and the stories of Martin Luther and William Tyndall. There are so many different components of this story, but in the end, the greatest part is when both the heroine and the hero realize where their true power comes from. The power that she walks in, comes from the power of the Holy Spirit living inside her.

MaryLu Tyndall has a way of taking deep issues and weaving them into a wonderful stories filled with romance, mystery, and daring adventures. The heroine is full of bravery and I love the fact that she finds her true courage when she discovers in whose power she is in. I encourage you to journey back to the medieval times and enjoy this story from MaryLu Tyndall. I always love a story with ladies, knights, and castles!

I have enjoyed MaryLu Tyndall’s books for many years and always anticipate each new arrival. This is another one of her great books and I look forward to the next one in the series!
