A BIOGRAPHY OF THE ‘MIND CONTROL’ TRAINING METHOD
Author Robert B. Stone wrote in the Preface to this 1990 book, “As the author or coauthor of some seventy-five self-help books, I have written several biographies of individuals who have been a special inspiration to others… The man who is the subject of this book is a star in the field of evolution, the evolution of mankind. If you think this is too tall an order for one individual to fill, read on. You will experience two major benefits as you read this book. First, you will discover how one man harnessed scientific and spiritual powers to develop a method to use more of the mind, and how he used those powers heroically to overcome scientific and spiritual opposition. And second, you will acquire insight into and a practical understanding of the Silva Mind Control Method for enhancing your own quality of life…
“At the age of seventy-six, José Silva is obviously doing mor than making discoveries. Yes, he is tapping the computerlike capacity of the brain to raise the intelligence measured in IQ tests, but he is also activating the creative power of human beings, interpreting ancient teachings in light of New Age thinking, and giving humankind the hope that it may someday empty the prisons, hospitals, and battlefields of the world.
“I have been a lecturer on the Silva Method for mor than fifteen years, and as such have come to wish I could shout from the rooftops its many quiet successes---the slow advent of the first psychoneuroimmunology and then cyberphysiology in the medical field, the accomplishments of entire faculties in the education field based on the Silva Method, and the secret problem-solving achievements of business executives who use the method daily.”
He states in the first chapter, “The fact the José Silva has never had a day of formal education in his life and yet is the trainer of geniuses makes him unique. He notes, “José found that relaxation was the first step, not only for the … clairvoyants but also, later, for the ten million Silva Method trainees. Scientists later confirmed that relaxation slowed brain-wave frequency. They called the relaxed mental state alpha… Scientists later confirmed the computerlike, or cybernetic, aspects of the human brain. José found that subjective thinking during meditation was a valuable adjunct to problem solving. Scientists later confirmed that subjective thinking was right-brain thinking and that two hemispheres were better than one.” (Pg. 56)
He reports, “As he studied the teachings of Jesus … José came to realize that, besides Jesus, only Matthew, of all the disciples, used the term ‘kingdom of heaven’ to refer to the dimension of wisdom and prophecy Jesus was encouraging the disciples to enter. All the other disciples called that same dimension the ‘kingdom of God.’ The distinction, José understood, was no accident. The kingdom of heaven, he realized, could be reached by going within, while the kingdom of God could be reached only by dying.” (Pg. 73)
He states, “José was never ‘thrown’ by his detractors, but they go under his skin sometimes. He knew that none had taken the training and that they were writing from ignorance. Still, it disappointed and bothered him to see them mask their ignorance with authority and write as if they knew what they were writing about, damaging others by their untruths.” (Pg. 99)
He recounts, “José made a decision to confront the scientific fraternity directly. He selected sixty of the leading research scientists in the field of brain and mind research and invited them to Houston … for a three-day weekend… Forty accepted… All day Saturday was devoted to a review of the Silva work and the potential it offered to scientific research for the ultimate benefit to humanity… In assessing the weekend, José was satisfied that new friends had been made---although how many and how permanently no one could say…. But… The critics continued to criticize. The skeptics continued to cry foul. The professionals continued to turn their backs. But Silva Mind Control continued to grow.” (Pg. 114)
He asked José his ideas about God, and was told, “I believe in a hierarchy of intelligence in the universe---that there is a certain level of intelligence assigned to govern the galaxy we call the Milky Way, a higher level to govern a group of galaxies, and the greatest of all intelligences, God, whose domain is the entire universe.” Stone adds, “In fact, if the Creator made us in his image to perfect creation on earth, prayer is like turning the job back to him. It would seem more appropriate for God to pray to us.” (Pg.124)
He concludes, “Are you willing to go to the kingdom within and activate more of your mind? I hope your answer is yes. José Silva hopes your answer is yes.” (Pg, 179)
This laudatory book will interest some studying José Silva.

The moment that changed everything, serendipity: a teacher at high school invites me to take a mind control course to improve my performance: “The Silva method of mind control.”
I changed practically from one day to the next, from being a mediocre student to a 10 (closed) student, from not having friends to going out all the time, from being lonely to having interesting loves.
And all from one day to the next.
I had never read the story of José Silva. This book tells his story and surprises me even more: uneducated, orphaned at a very young age, staying to live with relatives because his mother had married, in short, a story that seemed pitiful.
He ended up a millionaire and above all fulfilled and happy. Without knowing it, José Silva is perhaps the person who most influenced my youth, for the better.
After 45 years of taking the course, I will be taking it again very soon.
