Maxwell #4

Dare to Dance

Rate this book
Based on true events.

Hoping to sign with one of the biggest boxing promoters in the country, Kross Maxwell has to maintain a near perfect record. He can’t afford to lose any more bouts. But his head isn’t in the ring. Instead, he can’t seem to shake his past that’s been beating on his mind. To get back in the game, he goes in search of the girl he walked away from — the one girl who's always owned his heart.

Twenty-year-old, Ruby Lewis, is angry and frustrated with the way her life turned out. She dreamed of becoming a ballerina, but instead of performing for the rich and famous, she’s swinging her fists at girls twice her size in filthy, underground fights. She’d give anything to sleep in a bed, rather than the cold dark streets of Boston. Begging for her next meal, she often thinks of the friends she once had, the nice home she lived in, and the only boy to ever steal her heart. But Kross Maxwell wouldn’t want her now — not with dirty fingernails, ragged clothes and oily hair. But when she runs into him, the concrete wall she’s erected around herself threatens to crumble, and she can’t let that happen — if she wants to survive and get back the only thing that's ever mattered to her.

Dare to Dance is the 4th book in the Maxwell series and can be read as a stand-alone. The book is intended for audiences 18+.

Took me a little longer to get into the story but once I did, I finished the book in no time. I wasn't expecting the direction the story took us in but I was pleasantly surprised. I felt like I was going back and forth with whether I liked or disliked some of the aspects. For example, the situations the characters were presented some I found realistic while others I found uncomfortable...it's hard to explain without spoiling the story. I found some characters to be enjoyable and others I tried to like but couldn't push back some invisible boundary I had with her. Now, I have heard of this companion series and since I have read this one, I feel like I should go back and read the others.

** I received an advanced readers copy directly from the author and JKS Communications in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!**

I have read all of the books in The Maxwell Series so I was excited to get to know Kross and his story. It is not necessary to read the others in order to follow along but I recommend it simply because the series is enjoyable.

I did not like this instalment as much as the ones before it. It was an entertaining story but I enjoyed the previous ones better. Kross, like all of his other brothers, was easy to like. With his rugged good looks, strong family ties and sense of loyalty, how could I not. I loved the bond that he shared with his brothers. Being a twin, I understood the closeness that they shared.

I struggled a little bit with Ruby. I wanted to like her and I wanted a happily ever after with Kross but her character bugged me on more than a couple of occasions. She was in a terrible situation and was suppose to be trying to prove that she was responsible and able to care for her daughter. However, her actions were the total opposite. She was late for a fight that would have provided her with some much needed funds because she needed time to herself. Granted, it was an illegal fight but still. She was desperate for money and wanted her daughter back so bad but didn't even have a good excuse for being late. She also refused help, refused to listen and pretty much did whatever she wanted even though it hindered instead of helped her situation. I was frustrated with her character a lot. So much so that I didn't fully feel the connection or chemistry between Ruby and Kross.

Even though I was frustrated on a few occasions I still liked the story. Unless faced with a situation like Ruby's one can never say how they would deal with it. Although it was my least favourite of the series thus far I was still happy to get my fill of Maxwell brothers. I also look forward to the next in the series. There is still one Maxwell brother to hear from and I would also be really happy if Dillon got a story or series of his own. In fact, I REALLY want Dillon gets his own book.

Well personally this book was a shit show. The character flaws and plot line really got to me and honestly I can’t beleive it’s part of the same series. The author did a swell job from the start of building the hero as an u likable asshat. As the book progressed where I probably should have been falling in love with him, instead I only hated him more. I’m disgusted over how he treated Ruby and the end of their relationship. His literal avoidance of her and dismissal of her was frankly disgusting especially since it’s clear he had no trouble moving on. As for ruby, she was a interesting character and while I fully supported her even she posed me off after awhile. I mean the fact that neither of them saw through Trent and actually gave into him made me want to throw down the book for good. I skimmed sex scenes because they felt dirty, I didn’t want them together and I certainly didn’t feel myself rooting for them. I did appreciate the book dealing with so many issued such as homelessness, life on the streets, prostitution, selling drugs and more, the heavy subjects were pretty much all only in Ruby’s life and it was exhausting and honestly depressing. I just did not like this.

We heard Kades story, then Kelton's now it's Kross's turn!

Kross is the dark and dangerous brother with boxing skills like none. Whilst kade is the brains, Kelton's the humour, Kross's is the muscle and broody one . That is until Kross finds out Ruby's secret she has kept from him for 4 years.

Ruby wanted to be a ballerina until her fathers incarceration force her mother and her to move. Now ruby is facing a daily struggle to survive, plaged by memories of a life she used to lead and a life she wants, she will do anything to get it until the night she see those eyes that bring back painful the painful past

This book takes you on a roller coaster of emotions, that make you want to keep reading praying this story never ends.

Feel this is the best book in the maxwell series. Thank you for bringing me this beautiful story of love and giving hope for a second chance at life!

An absolutely fabulous story from Sue has been the reward for waiting for this book. As a big fan of the Maxwell bros I've been patiently waiting for its release and now it's here and read I can't recommend this book highly enough. Fluently written the story line has third party interests for our Lizzie, dangers and problems round corners and a fight to get the man she loves and her inheritance. Extremely entertaining, steamy in places but not overdone and quite funny haha as well. Very highly recommended read

I haved loved the Maxwell Series since it’s beginning. I loved how each brother is unique. I have since fallen a bit behind in their releases and when I saw Dare to Dream was my next review I was ecstatic. Although I loved the premise of the book I got from the blurb, it overall fell flat for me. I loved the characters on the whole as I will always identify with young parents, but there were some flaws I considered to be deal breakers.

Kross Maxwell was always the quiet, dedicated, and mysterious brother. I have been anticipating getting into his head from the beginning. What I didn’t expect was for him to end up being so rude when it came to his past. Honestly, that took a bit to get over as it was not very “Maxwell” of him to treat a lady like that. However, he really didn’t know about the baby as he was accidentally misled and he definitely was ready to step up fast.

Ruby wasn’t as described either… and that is both good and bad. I thought we would have gotten more of how she wanted to be a ballerina and the fighting wasn’t really what all she was doing that whole time to provide for herself. I loved her dedication to doing whatever to get her child back. She was rightfully ruthless in that regard. I however could not get on board with her half attempts at getting ahold of Kross (phones just don’t cut it) and how she treated him when he found her. She treated him like he willingly left them to dry for almost four years. I also adored how she had no issues calling Kross out when he was being possessive. I do always love a straight shooter.

Overall, this book was okay despite the one central storyline issue I had. It was a good bridge to continue on with the series and I would still recommend the series as a whole. The characters are resilient and hard workers. I will be happy to get their updates through out the rest of the series.

Greatest read

I picked up a copy of dare to kiss from a Facebook advertisement. After reading the first two books I was hooked. This is book four in the series. Although this book could be a stand alone I do recommend the first three. This book has happy, sad, emotional twists and turns. Suspense and drama. I would have figured Keltons book (book 3 ) would have been my favorites but Ruby stole my heart. Anyone of us could land in her shoes. Most Americans are one or two pay checks away from the streets the way we live. This character has to over come so many obstacles now only within herself but with the harsh realities of a female on the streets. Then there is Kross. I wouldn't have pegged him for the character he turned out to be however I'm glad it took the turns it did with him in this book. Recommend read!

I know I'm going to be in the minority but I found it disappointing :-(

I wanted a big story for Kross as we didn't really know a lot about him. He held a lot of promise, however, I was let down. I knew going into this that it was going to be a second chance romance (which I adore). I also knew that Ruby had a secret and I wished and wished and wished it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Well, my wishing didn't pay off and it did end up being what I thought it would be. Now, let me say that it is possible to write a good story using the "secret" so I didn't immediately discount this because of that. However, I don't like how this one was handled.

Ruby and her decisions were what killed the book for me. I had to put the book down and walk away from it numerous times due to Ruby's decisions. It took me almost 2 weeks to finish this book where I will normally finish a book in 24hrs (all of the previous books in the series were 1 day reads for me).

Now, I do understand why Ruby made the decision she did in the beginning because if I were in her shoes I can't say that I would have made a different one. BUT, I can say that I would have tried to get in contact with his family when all else failed. I can somewhat get over that because she was young and scared BUT where Ruby lost me was when the shit hit the fan in her life and she found herself homeless. At that point - to me - her motivation became selfish. Unfortunately those selfish reasons showed up fairly early (7%) in the book.

"I'd wanted to find him, but with how crazy my life had been with my parents and Raven, there was never a good time. Now that I was homeless, it definitely was not a good time"

So..let me get this right. For 4 (!!) years your life was too crazy AND now that your homeless its still not a good time for you? HELLO!! When at the bottom you look for a hand up, put your pride aside, and reach out for help. Unfortunately from that point on her excuses were variations of "I don't want him to see me like this" or "I'm dirty and homeless". Don't get me wrong...I understand pride BUT Raven was the one who suffered. Raven could have never endured what she did if Ruby would have just put her pride aside.

Eventually she did BUT Kross pursued her relentlessly for over 50% of the book begging for her to come clean with him (he knew in Chapter 1 and found Ruby in Chapter 2 or in the early parts of Chapter 3). When she did fess up it was just too late for me to find any sympathy for her or her circumstances.

My other problem with Ruby was that she was not the girl described in the synopsis. I expected a tough as nails girl who was fighting (literally) for a better life. That's not what we got. Was she strong in some ways? Yes - it takes a lot to survive on the streets and to do what she did for Raven. However, the strength I was looking for and needed for me to love her character just wasn't there.

Finally..Kross. I was also let down by his character. He accepted way to much responsibility for what happened. Did he make mistakes? Absolutely. Did he try to remedy those mistakes? Absolutely. Did he deserved to carry ALL the weight of those mistakes? No.

I felt that Kross never forced Ruby to answer for her decision that ultimately caused pain for Raven, Kross, and Kross' family. He deserved more from her and she deserved some of his anger. When he tracked her down after finding out about Raven he didn't deserve for her to run from him EVERY SINGLE TIME! He tried and tried and tried to get her to speak to him but she was too concerned about him seeing her dirty. Unfortunately, Kross became a pushover.

I wanted to like this book but the combination of Ruby and Kross just didn't work for me. Ruby wasn't a strong character and Kross became a weak character in this book. The writing and emotion that Susan wrote and tried to convey in the story is the only reason I can give this book more than 1 star. I can see how she tried to pull on the heart strings and how she tried to make it a beautiful reunion. I also think that many people will love this book. For me though, it just didn't work.

“Star light. Star bright. You’re the only star I see tonight. I wish I may. I wish I might. You’re the only one I wish tonight. You’re my angel, and I want to dance under the stars with you until death do us part. Naked that is.”

I love this book, I adore this story and I am a huge fan of this entire series. SB Alexander Knows how to deliver a phenomenal plot filled with twists, turns and beautiful lessons on what it means to be a family.

Aside from the charming ongoing character development, we get to experience whole new levels of steam and sexiness in this book. I all but panted for Kross, and I'm confident that I'm not the only one. We also get that quick whites Maxwell humor that we've all come to know and love. I laughed, I sighed, I cried, I threw things. The emotions were just that intense.

Kross is every single thing that I could have wanted out of a Maxwell triplet. He is strong, honest, humbled, occasionally stubborn, borderline alpha male-ish, unbelievable handsome, caring, and utterly swoon worthy. The fighting in the ring is cool, sure. But it's his fight OUT of the ring to win over Ruby that makes my heart beat faster. It's his willingness to throw caution to the wind to protect his loved ones that makes me all warm and tingly. He is so perfect that I spent more time than I'm currently comfortable admitting contemplating ways to make my husband more like my new favorite 'superman'.

Ruby, oh Ruby. I wanted to punch her face on more than one occasion. I'm trying to be honest, I found her to be selfish, prideful, and manipulative... at first. It was apparent from the very beginning that she had a big bleeding heart, but that was overshadowed by her determination to shut Kross out and keep things from him. If I'm keeping it completely real here, he was basically a saint in my eyes for putting up with all the hoops she threw up (can you tell that I'm a bit protective of him). The truth was, she didn't really have a leg to stand on but he didn't know that. The anger was a legitimate and coursing thing for me, but that level of intense emotion means that the plot was written so well that I felt like I was a part of the story. Naturally, I ended up rooting for Ruby and sympathizing with her more than I'd like to admit (because hello, she gets to put her paws on Kross). In the end, all that I wanted was for a fairytale happily ever after for these two soulmates.

Wow. What a ride! The constant plot twists and unyielding drama sucked me in before I could even fully process what was happening. The story flowed so well that I didn't check my book progression once, and that in itself is impressive. By the time I got to the epilogue I was debating on writing the author to beg for some extra content... I just need a little more Kross in my life. The truth is, this series has come together so wonderfully. Each story brings new trials and new love and every book makes me love the Maxwell family a little bit more. To say that I am antsy for Kody's story is now a huge understatement. After this most recent amazing addition to the series, I can hardly wait. I can only assume from the steady upward progression, that Kody's story is going to blow everyone away. That's fantastic, but I just want to say AGAIN that I already have book-boyfriend dibs on that handsome musically inclined Maxwell triplet. Congratulations SB, this book is perfect and I am on the edge of my seat fidgeting in anticipation for what you give us next!

5 Heart Dancing Knockout Stars

Dare to Dance is the 4th book in the Maxwell Series. This is the third brother, Kross' story.
Susan Alexander is the amazing author in this series. Which each new book I am amazed as how she is able find a new story in each brother.
This Book which is about Kross is not another retelling of Kelton's or Kade's story, no this is a whole new brother with a whole new vision and world of his own.

Kross is like his brothers in the fact that he is such a strong believer of family. Her was the main care giver of his mom's before she was sent away. He has emotions that have had to be pushed a side for the love of his family.

During a year away at a school he and his brothers were sent to Kross meets Ruby. Ruby is an aspiring ballerina who capture Kross' attention. The pair begin dating and of course as soon a things get heavier, Kross leaves school to go back home.

Now Fast forward 4 years and everyone's life is running fast and furious. As paths are formed they are also collided. What began as an innocent teenage love is thrown to the forefront again.

What I Loved and yes I said Loved about this book is that Kross is portrayed as such a bad ass fighter but what the reader gets to see is also a bad ass family man and lover.

Ruby a woman who loves her family, fights by whatever she thinks is right for them. She never thought life would throw her the cards she ha,s but one way or another Ruby will crawl back to the woman she can be.

As in all stories unforeseen truths are exposed yet there were really never any secrets kept on purpose. But when the truth comes back ,the focus will change a brother and his priorities, making him more of a man than you can ever image.

Yes I will admit at times some of the decisions that Ruby made, made me upset but she learns and grows so much as a character in this book. She finally is allowed to grow into the adult we new she could be if life had not turned her world upside down.

SB Alexander has written a beautiful story about fighting for what you love and what you know is right while protecting as best you can the ones you love. You will laugh and cry while reading this love story but in the end I promise you will be glad you took the time to read Kross and Ruby's story!

What I loved:
I have read every book in this series and I am still surprised by where each journey we take during each new couple's story. Ruby is a tough cookie, but most people who have been through what she has, would be. Sometimes circumstances make us shut out people and other things for survival. But then we meet someone who has the ability to smash down any wall we have put up no matter how much we fight against it. Kross was that person for her. Kross is the type of guy that knew what he had to do to keep and protect the love he had for Ruby. He gave her everything he needed. Kross and Ruby's story is a second chance for them and I am a sucker for that. I didn't expect some things and that is what makes a book captivating.

What I didn't love:
This section is always hard for me when it comes to a book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I guess what I didn't love is a bit selfish. I didn't love the fact that S.B. Alexander made me fall fast and hard for Kross. I hate o say it, but Kade has been replaced. And this I don't love because I feel guilty. And I don't do well with guilt. DARN YOU WOMAN!!!

Overall:
Dare to Dance is an amazingly well told story about hardship and overcoming. Ruby is a fighter in every sense of the word and Kross is the perfect person to be by her side. Take a chance on these Maxwell Men. They are dreamy, swoon worthy, and worth getting to know. S.B. Alexander has done it yet again. Thank you so much for this story. I can't wait for more from you!

Dare To Dance is filled with shock value, passion, rekindling love, and one hot, loving, and sweet Kross. It feels like I have been waiting for this book forever. Ever since I read Dare to Kiss back in December, I fell in love with the Maxwell brothers, but Kross was always my favorite. I was beyond excited when this book popped up on my kindle. Dare to Dance left me in utter shock and disbelief. S.B. Alexander did amazing with the book because I couldn’t predict anything. That is what I look for most in books and she delivered it well.

I won’t go into much detail for the book because I want the everyone to experience the full effect that is Dare to Dance. But I will talk about the characters because I loved them so much!

First, I will tackle Ruby. She was a character that is tough, because life made her that way. I was feeling so much turmoil over her. I felt so sad and broken one minute and the next I was angry because she could have asked for help. But once I finished this book I understood her actions and her behavior. She had a difficult life but she did the best she could. Ruby is a character who is stubborn, a hard worker, with a very loving personality when she allows her walls down. In the end, I was so happy that Kross was able to find such a lovely woman that could fight for herself.

Kross. Sigh. Where do I begin with him? I love that he is a boxer. I thought he was so interesting since I met him in the first Maxwell Brother book. He always knew what he wanted and he is dedicated. That is what I love about my book boyfriends. They go after what they want and Kross did just that. But just when I thought everything was going good there is something so unexpected that smacks me in the face. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. I did not expect what was coming at all. It took me a while to accept it but when I did I was so crazy over what was going to happen. Kross brought out all the feels for me, especially during a certain part where he sang. It was so adorable and unlike him. It made me fall hard and that is where his journey began. Unexpected and tantalizing indeed.

Dare to Dance is a book with unexpected turns that hit you with all the feels and leaves you gasping. S.B. Alexander has written one of her best books. It is truly remarkable how she was able to put this book together and make it flow perfectly. I cannot wait until she releases more of these Maxwells because with each book comes a new surprise and new romance.

Does one really find "the one" while in 10th grade? With all that I believe the answer to that question is YES! This wonderful work of fiction while rooted in truth can and does answer that question in the same way I do.

Is it a lasting relationship with no obstacles in the way? Nope, but like real relationships, they dare to stand the test of time. Dare to Dance is a story of 2 young people with dreams and goals who encounter their own set of trials and tribulations.

Ruby dreams of being a ballerina. Kross dreams of boxing professionally. Together they each want the other to succeed in reaching their goals until one night when young lovers encounter the biggest obstacle that could exist to destroy them. For Kross it couldn't be worse he isn't ready for this. Ruby isn't either but what choice could she make. Then a breather, aunt flow comes to town and they think they are off the hook, lucky them. Guess again, twins!. Kross thinking he was home free runs fast and far and loses track of Ruby for 4 years.

Ruby has a tragic yet hard life. But not wanting to be pitied by anyone and wanting to prove she can do right by Raven, she spends many a night living a life so far from her goals that she doesn't see a way out. A chance encounter at an underground illegal fight sparks fly! Can Kross save Ruby and can Ruby forgive Kross for running? Take a chance, read this fabulous 4th book in the series of Maxwell Brothers. Susan Alexander has once again mixed the right amount of angst and honesty to suck the reader right in from the beginning and keep you reading until it's finished. Yep up all night reading this one.

"Life is precious"

I don't even know if I can find the right words to do this book justice. Kross & Ruby were high school sweethearts and as in everyday life things happen & they drifted apart. Kross went on to become a successful boxer & Ruby, well life dealt her lots of harsh set backs. They eventually run into each other again & that's where the story takes off. I won't go into a lot of detail because I think you should read & experience it for yourself.

Ruby, ruby, ruby I adored her, she hadn't had the easiest life, but what I loved about her was that every time life threw something at her, she got back up & dusted herself off. She was strong, sassy, shy & she knew what she wanted in life. At times my little heart broke for her, I wanted to crawl into my kindle & give her a hug & tell her everything would be ok.

"Your decisions in life will make you who you are"

Now Kross I disliked him for about 1 chapter, but he stood up took responsibility for his actions and was the man Ruby needed him to be. He was bossy, protective and strong. Oh man he loved Ruby something fierce, he was exactly what she needed after everything she had been through.

This was a story about heartbreak, second chances & finding that forever kind of love. Susan Alexander is a magician when it comes to words. I felt every roller coaster of emotion reading this book. I'm not ashamed to say I shed a few tears & got this ball of nerves, in my tummy every time I felt something bad was going to happen.

Without a doubt a 5 star read

I love SB Alexander's work and this series, I was so incredibly excited for Kross's book that I wasn't even prepared for how amazing it was going to be. Out of the 4 books in the series so far, Dare to Dance takes the cherry on top for being my favorite. I wasn't prepared for how much I would love Kross after Kade and Kelton, but Kross is my new favorite Maxwell.

Kross, how do I even describe him? He's a boxer and he let go one of one the best things in his life because he wasn't ready, but he never forgot her. He wasn't prepared for how he would find her again either or the circumstances that would be revealed once he found her and she told the full story...

Ruby- sweet, amazing- Ruby... She is my favorite leading Maxwell lady. There were so many times I wanted to crawl into my kindle just to love her. She hasn't had it easy and letting the one person back into her life who broke her heart isn't going to easy, especially with that secrets she has.

I was in a puddle of tears with many parts of this book. It tugs at your heart strings and makes you want to hug Kross and Ruby. I wish I could say more, but I don't want to spoil it for others. Know this, Kross Maxwell loves fiercely and that family always comes first.

received the ARC, felt the book was okay, don't have any part of the story that i really hate or really like therefore only rank 2 stars.

the story turn out to be different from what i expected from the book synopsis -
"...she’s swinging her fists at girls twice her size in filthy, underground fights", i was actually expecting ruby to already be a fighter fighting to survive and not just entering the fight with no experience and losing -_-'''. and i sort of predicted bits and pieces of the story as soon as trent threaten ruby, like he will use raven to his advantage. the book become less appealing when i guess what the author's direction of where the characters are going.

among kade, kelton & kross stories, kelton's is still my favorite, ranking at 3 stars. gave kade's story 2 stars as well due i think its too lengthy.

Love is beautiful, consuming and can complete you in ways you never imagined until it doesn't. Love can crush you soul and shatter your heart into a million pieces leaving behind a person you no longer recognize. How far would you go to get control back over your life? How great a risk? This amazing journey shows that no matter how far you have sunk you can always find a way out. Become the better person in order to get you life back. Fight for the only things that matter. Love will always find a way. This book was my favorite book in the series. The characters showed so much emotion you couldn't help but connect with them on another level. The plot was very believable and had a real life feel to it. S.B has an amazing talent which leaves you wanted to read more of her books. I really enjoy her writing style and can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

I love the Maxwell series! Kross and Ruby's story is a wonderful addition to the series. After reading the first three books, Dare to Dance was full of surprises. I couldn't anticipate what was going to happen next. I know Kody's book is next but I think SB Alexander has opened the door for a couple more books. Dillion is still a mystery.

Once I started this book I could not put it down! I finished it at 2am lol. Loved it.
Ruby & Kody's story has its heart ache and triumphs. There is plenty of drama and heart pounding moments. This book or for that matter any S. B Alexander's book are on my first to read list. Now I wait for the next story....

This was a hard one to get into. Ruby made some dumb choices. I tried to be understanding to her situation. However, instead of getting help that was offered she choice to do things her way. Of course they ended badly. Thankfully she had Kross in the end to help her fix things. It was nice that they got their HEA this second time.

I received this book for a fair and honest review. This is the first book I have read by S.B. and I loved it. Kross and Rubys story was filled with so much...... muchness!!!! The angst and turmoil were a lot to bear but everything was proof positive that just about anything come be overcome!

4 Maxwell Loving stars!

Source: eARC for Honest Review Courtesy of Author
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Part 4 in an ongoing series

My Dare to Dance Review . . .

Finally Kross's story.  I wasn't sure what was going to happen for Kross, but what a journey it ended up being.

These Maxwell boys have quite the drama magnets for their choice in woman.  Each and every Maxwell so far as gone through quite the ride when it comes to their ladies, and for Kross his lady  takes the cake with her heartbreaking story.

I first fell in love with this series in Dare to Kiss where we first meet Kade Maxwell and his equally handsome, loyal, and charming triplet brothers.  Kross, Kelton and Kody may be triplets and look alike but they are completely different from each other.  We've already had Kade and then Kelton's stories, now we get Kross but I have to admit I'm dying for the intriguing Kody's story.

In Dare to Love Kelton had quite the scare but that scare ends up being Kross's reality.   For one year the Maxwell triplets got shipped off to private school while their mom was having a hard time.  Here is where Kross met Ruby Lewis, the incredibly shy but beautiful girl who completely intrigued him.  At first they had tons of fun but when it was time to go home, Kross didn't look back.  Even when Ruby was desperately trying to get a hold of Kross.

Now four years later and Kross's world is about to be blown apart.   Ruby Lewis was living a good life, but then her parents made some bad decisions causing them to leave Ruby in the most desperate way.  Ruby needs to survive so she makes poor choices with terrible consequences.  Now she's trying fight her way back from those choices.

". . . 'Until you know their story, you shouldn't judge or freak out.'"

Kross is still trying to make things right for his coach after his arrest with Kelton.  So when he's forced to go back to his old high school he feels the guilt of not returning Ruby's calls.  As he's in his old stomping ground he looks Ruby up to not only find out that she no longer lives there, but there was a lot of stuff he missed with those unreturned phone calls.

Now determined to wrong his rights, Kross is trying to find Ruby and doesn't know where to start.   The last place he ever thought he would find Ruby is the underground fighting ring.  Kross instantly feels what he lost and once had, and now wants to get it back.  As well as get him the answers to his new found questions.

Ruby is a bit gun shy and doesn't know how to react with Kross re-entering her life but she never really got over her feelings for Kross either.   Kross and Ruby start to re-connect but they also have to go through some hard truths if they want a future.

"No one is touching her except me,"  Kade grinned.  "I believe Dillon is right.  You're quite smitten."

As with all the books we don't just get one Maxwell we always get the amazing Maxwell family as well.  This family and their dynamics are what always make the stories.  I love the Maxwells and if only in reality we got men like these Maxwell boys.

I did like this story and Ruby's story is crazy to the point it could become unbelievable but from the world where she is living anything is possible and we truly don't know the truths behind many peoples story, so who knows what she had to go through, could be a very real truth for many that are in a similar situation that Ruby was in.

This story had a great balance of angst, suspense, love, loyalty, family and hope.  Plus it had the most adorable little girl that you just couldn't help but fall in love with that character.

**REVIEWED BY CASSIE**

>Book Review – Dare to Dance
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 4th in the Maxwell series and ends in an HEA. Kross is the fighter in the family. At 16, he had a girlfriend that he cut ties with after he transferred schools. Four years later, he tries to find the girl, Ruby, in order to apologize for how he left things. Ruby is an interesting character. She has a strong personality as she survives being a single parent and homeless. Her experiences out on the street are described in this book and are sad. There is a fine line between being successful and becoming homeless. Scary to think how easy it is to lose it all.
>Kross finds Ruby and realizes he is a father. The scenes with Kross and his brothers and his daughter, Raven are the sweetest. I felt the whole issue of custody was presented without rose colored glasses and interesting to read. The story has some suspense with creepy fight promotors, less than legal propositions and kidnapping.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this story 5 stars. The way this family interacts and loves each other is amazing.

Kross & Ruby

Wow! & I thought I couldn’t love the Maxwell brothers more. Kross & Ruby’s story is a special one. One is because a child (a Maxwell) is involved & two, everything Ruby went through felt raw, real & relatable.
Kross— he’s the perfect human being. Man, these Maxwell boys love hard. You know how many times I yelled at Ruby while reading this haha But I understood where she was coming from, from a mothers point of view. You’d do anything for your child & that’s exactly what she did. It wasn’t the right thing to do, but it was out of love for her child. Love this story & cant wait to continue reading the Maxwell series .

I will not restate the plot nor reveal any spoilers in this review.
To date, I believe Dare to Dream is the best of the Maxwell stories. It deals with many social issues, such as teen pregnancy, single parenthood and homelessness. While this book does not condone certain actions or choices which were made, it does give you a glimpse of the human spirit to survive. I shed a few tears in both joy and sadness. But there is a HEA ending. S. B. Alexander has written a great novel with wonderful characters which draws you in and tugs on your heartstrings. Thank you for such a fabulous story!

Heart squeezing

I think read this book in less than 2 days. I just couldn't put it down. S. B. Alexander has not disappointed me yet in this series. Each book is more amazing and I can not put them down. I definite recognise series of you haven't read them yet. It's hard for me to say anything about the story without a few spoilers, so to avoid that I will say that it really touched me and I could not put it down.

Beautiful!

I will say I didn't get into this book as much as I did with the previous 3, I'm not to sure why. I did really enjoy the last 10 chapter's. It was nice to see this sweeter side of Kross. I absolutely love his little nursery rhyme he does, so very beautiful. Still a really good book in this series like the previous ones. I love that the Maxwell family if getting bigger.
