Hiding from a man who wants him dead, Matthieu Whitney has finally made a peaceful life for himself as the pastor of Sweet Town. Much of that peace relies on passing as white, which proves agonizing as he finds himself driven to distraction by the beautiful and sharply intelligent Beulah Douglass. He knows from experience courting and secrets don't mix.
Already struggling as a young mother alone, Beulah isn't looking for trouble. Certainly not the kind of trouble that comes in the form of a tall, dark, and handsome pastor with haunting green eyes and a protective streak as wide as the Mississippi. After he's injured rescuing her from an accident, she's happy to help Matt, though it means trying to deny the growing connection between them. As danger mounts and their enemies grow, can Beulah have any hope of being the Preacher's Wife?
In the shadow of wild Deadwood sits quiet Sweet Town. Established in the Dakota Gold Rush of the 1870s, Sweet Town is surrounded by gentle hills and fields of clover. It's a place where anyone can start over and redemption is never out of reach.
Sweet Town romances tell the stories of the community as its members fall in love. These inspiring stories explore the power of charity, the nature of good and evil, and all the miracles that can happen when you open your heart.
Sarah Christian is a new author for me. I enjoyed the twists and turns in this story .I hope you will read it and appreciate the voice of Sarah Christian!!!!!!
From slavery to trying to forge a life forward. Well told from a black person POV, but not written by an AA novelist. The author handled both characters in a respectful manner. Beulah was a hard working woman with a child. She’s a woman of an abusive and uncomfortable background simply bec of the color of her skin. But she was proud of who she was. Braver than many men! A great mother to baby Jonah, a great friend to Mrs. O’Quinn, and a great person to be on your side. An upstanding woman of integrity and grit. She gets the opportunity to help the pastor Matt Whitney while he mends from a horse accident. In a few short days her presence has mended more than hurt ribs.
If you are looking for a simple, fluffy romance then this is the book for you. This book just made me smile. It doesn’t have a lot of action nor any heavy conflict. The romance was cute and the main characters were interesting. This book ( which is a part of a series) reminds me of Little House on the Prairie or Dr. Quinn Medicine Women. This whole series is ultimately about Sweet Town a place where people go to and ultimately find a place where they are accepted and belong. Each individual story builds upon the town and it inhabitants.
Beulah was a former slave Pastor Whitney was the pastor of the only church in Sweet Town. This is the story of Beulah and the Pastor of the town which has kept a secret from everyone. This secret could turn the citizens of the town against them. You need to read to see if it does. This is a good read.
Wonderful read... Kept my attention and imagination buzzing. I could picture the beauty of Sweet Town and it's local daily bustle. I'm looking forward to the next visit to Sweet Town
The characters are interesting and the story is well told. These are not complex stories but they celebrate the triumph of human nature and, or course, love.
As promised, Preacher's Wife is a clean book. The violence that takes place in the story is minimal and the brutality is described while skimming over the gritty details. The romance is chaste with only hints of a greater passion within. Lacking a bit of spice and the gory specifics (not a bad thing), this book focuses instead on emotions, spirituality and history. It was good although at times I found it a little ho hum.
