Conviction

"Rarely does a written story give me pause as this one."
When six-year-old Lilly Parrish disappears, ex-con TJ. Bennett sets out to find the biological daughter he’s never met.
As T.J. and the nurse who saved him from a fatal wound, begin to piece the puzzle together, they realize they have little time to save Lillie from losing something she will never have back.

In the lower level of his prestigious home. renowned surgeon Dr. Vince Monahan prepares the operating room. “Jesus loves the little children,” Vince sings softly to the sleeping child. “Black or yellow, red or white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.” "In this taut, troubling thriller, Shursen takes yet another controversial topic and voiced herself beautifully as she penned the story of the Parrish family from Justyce, Georgia." "The villain is so well written that you understand him, knowing that no one is all bad or all good. He's evil, yet you see the reason. From the gripping beginning to the surprising end, you'll find yourself hating to put this one down." - Bestselling author Jerilyn Dufresne "Conviction deals with one of the most difficult people to rehabilitate...emotionally, relationally and spiritually.” "You're drawn into the mind and life of a psychopath who believes he's doing God's work. Once you reach the end you think it's over but you're in for another story that just begins.” “As all the pieces fall into place the ending has your mouth hanging open saying, "I never saw that coming!"" "I have read all of this author’s books and have been knocked over with each one." “Once again, Shursen's creativity, writing abilities, and research make for a fast-paced, exciting read."

Someone has been kidnapping biracial little girls. They are returned to their parents 3 after being gone for 3 days. All of them bear a small incision scar on their tummies. He's been doing this for 10 years and has yet to be caught.

The reader knows from the beginning who is doing this. The reader even knows why.

This story revolves around Zeb Parrish, raising his biracial grand-daughter after his own daughter commits suicide. Zeb finds his daughter's diary and learns the identity of Lillie's father. T. J. Bennett is in prison and does not know that he is the father of a child. Zeb's plan is to befriend him and see if he can be worthy of being Lillie's father.

They are unaware that someone is watching Lillie ... a beautiful biracial child.

The same day that TJ realizes that Lillie is his, she goes missing. "T.J. faces a decision; should he run away like he's always has, or risk going back to prison to try and find the innocent child who loves him unconditionally? "

This is a well-written story with lots of great characters. I fell in love with Lillie and Zeb. I was rooting for TJ all the way. There are secondary characters that lend an air of credibility .. Ronnie, Zeb's late wife's best friend ... Maddy, the nurse who falls in love with TJ.... Jack and Olivia who play a pivotal part of the story.

There is a huge twist at the end .. something I don't think anyone will see coming. There is no cliff hanger, but there is an opening for maybe another book.

Many thanks to the author who provided a digital copy. All opinions expressed here are unbiased and strictly my own.

For ten years a madman has been kidnapping biracial girl between the ages of 6-8, and returning them three days later, seemlingly unharmed except for the small scar on their abdomen from the tubal ligation he performs on them. None of these girls seem to have anything in common other than their age and race, so it's shrugged off by the police in most cases.

Around the time the last girl is kidnapped, young Lillie loses her mother, and is sent to live with her grandpa Zeb. The two of them form a family of sorts with an ex-con named TJ, his girlfriend Maggy, and longtime family friend Ronnie, but of course this is a Kimberly Shursen thriller so you know it can't all be that simple. A simple accident puts Lillie on the radar of a madman, and it'll be up to her new family to not only save her, but stop him as well.

This is simply one of those books that keeps you up past your bedtime trying to find out what happens next. Such an amazing story, that hits on every quality a good book should be.

Kimberly Shursen took a controversial topic and voiced herself beautifully as she penned of the Parrish family from Justyce, Georgia.
As I have read her outstanding trilogy Lottery, I now have indulged in another great read, listen folks, Kimberly has a flair when describing a topic that is right here under all our noses.
Her writing will tell you a story that we all have at least heard of, but, of course, all with fictional characters - and her characters? oh they read so real - so no worries. Your alongside for the ride for sure.
A lot of people have an issue with mixed bloods - let Ms. Shursen tell you a story: read my review at http://buttonholed.blogspot.com/
