Welcome to an enchanted land ruled by unicorn princesses! Cressida Jenkins, a unicorn-obsessed girl who is sure that unicorns are real, is invited to visit, and readers will be thrilled to journey to the Rainbow Realm along with her! In each story, Cressida is called to help a unicorn princess and her sisters in a magical adventure.
In Flash's Dash , the annual Thunder Dash is approaching, and Princess Flash has opened the race to non-unicorns for the first time ever! Cressida is the first human girl invited to participate, but Ernest the wizard-lizard accidentally casts a spell that covers the race track in sticky, pink goo! Can Cressida and the unicorn princesses find a way to save the race?
This magical chapter book series is full of fun, sparkle, and friendship.
I really liked this book. If the other unicorns in the book like breeze, moon and firefly were in the book I don’t get why they would put them in the book if those books hadn’t came out yet. Flash was pretty cool but I liked the first book more. Even my friend read the first book, and I didn’t even tell her about it!🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄
Another fun, cute entry in the series. This time, one of Ernest's spells goes awry (again), and the Thunder Dash (the annual unicorn race) is jeopardized. Can Cressida organize everyone to help out to clear the track, or will the race be cancelled?
Despite being a book written for a young audience, it is well written and uses descriptive language. It is simple in terms of plot, but not basic. The characters encounter obstacles and grow from them. I am impressed by the strong moral values being taught. I want to share a few examples:
"She tiptoed into the kitchen. Her older brother Corey, and her parents were still asleep, and she didn't want to wake them. She poured herself a bowl of Whole Wheat Squares and ate her cereal quickly: she couldn't wait to get back to her book." Cressida (the main character) is shown to be considerate and thoughtful. She is also modeling that reading is fun.
"When she finished, Cressida put her empty bowl in the sink and crept back to her bedroom." Cressida is responsible. She cleans up after herself. This was such a minor detail to include, but this is an example of the intention the authoress has taken in her writing to show strong moral character, even in minor every day tasks.
"And then, suddenly, Flash surged forward, running so fast Cressida wondered if they were flying. Cressida squealed with delight as silver and gold lightening bolts crackled from Flash's horn and hooves." This sentence shows off wonderful imagery and vocabulary.
I could go on and on with more examples - the book is full of details that showcase good values and strong and beautiful writing. It is the perfect gateway book to high quality literature. This is exactly the kind of book I want my daughters to read.
I appreciated that Ernest was woven throughout this story and that his spell gone awry was revealed later in the story, rather than as a device to explain Cressida's need to visit to the Rainbow Realm.
Since this was our fourth Unicorn Princess book, I'm getting annoyed with the reminders about how this all works. I appreciated the notes like "because time in the human world stops when Cressida is in the Rainbow Realm..." in our first few books, read out of order, but they're starting to wear on me now that we are so steeped in the Rainbow Realm mythology in this house.
I'm also annoyed that Cressida seems perfect. She's just so gosh darn happy to be in the Rainbow Realm and has such thoughtful ideas and mature conflict resolution skills that we don't see much growth or development on her part. I would like to see her struggle with some human flaws and emotions a bit more.
I can't justify a rating lower than 4 stars as my kid keeps begging for another chapter, though.
I read this to my 3 year old daughter and she seemed to enjoy it. I thought it was good for what it was and I was curious about how they would solve the problem in the book. There was a scary part where a fox got stuck, but it was only a little scary.
This has got to be the cutest sequel EVER! I swear that I have read the first one, but I can't really remember when/where, so... L.O.L. I love this book a LOT, from the fact that it is just the cutest story on this planet, to the fact that the characters and world-building are to die for!!!
My 5 year old picked this out of a little neighborhood library. I read it to her over about a week. It mostly held her attention and overall she liked it.
