3.5 - "This is the most alive I've felt in centuries." Stars!
Book five in the Last True Vampire series, brings us newly turned vampire, Saeed Almasi’s story. This is a character whose POV has been present in previous books so, it was nice to finally get fully into the guy’s head.
Sayeed’s story has been a long time coming, it you have read the previous books in the series, you will know that the recently turned Dhampir and now Coven leader has been struggling to control his dropping out conscious reality and into The Collective since being turned. The Collective is essentially the memories of all Vampires, which as a Vampire he now has access too, only problem being he keeps seeing woman he believes to be his mate, in other Vampires memories, each and every glance of her through the years just makes him yearn to spend longer locked in his mind to find out more about her.
He would find her. Because he had to. His soul, his very sanity depended on it…
That it until a certain little girl, who also has the ability to see into the future gives him a hint as to where she might be and who she may be with. Saeed promptly hands the control over of his Coven over to his two seconds-in-command and heads of to Seattle to find her.
"Yours is the only blood I thirst for. I will pierce no others flesh but yours…"
Cery’s Bain’s life for the last couple of thousand years, as essentially a soul-stealing enforcer for Mage Rin, has been less than pleasant, each and every time she is forced to take a soul for a debt unpaid to the Mage, she loses a little more of herself in the process. Problem is Rin also has her soul and until she finds out where he has it stashed she has no option but to follow his orders. That is until Saeed turns up, a Vampire in her city is rare enough, but one professing to be her mate… completely inconceivable.

"I didn’t think you’d actually take me up on it!"
"You absolutely did. You simply hadn’t counted on enjoying it."
I loved the verbal sparring between these two, Saeed was a bit stiff and staid, while Cerys was more Twenty-first century, and I will be honest it was these interactions that kept me reading the book for the most part. Again Kate put together a well-crafted story, with multiple POVs (Siobhan, Christopher & Ian Gregor to name but a few) but the story contained in within the pages I personally think could have played out just as well if it had had a good hundred pages of unnecessary rambling taken out.
"Not that I’ve found you, I don’t plan to ever leave your side."
I think the other thing is that this is the first story in the series that felt like it didn’t really add much to the bigger picture overall, apart from Ian Gregor and the rest of the Berserkers appearance towards the end, and the unusual deal he struck with Saeed, nothing of real note has changed or moved on since the last book. The Whole Siobhan/Christopher situation is still being dragged out, and the story arc itself seems to have moved off of Mikhail and away the original Vampires completely, particularly if you take into account the next book; The Wicked Vampire being about Sasha Ivanov, who is one of the newly turned Vampires that Saeed left in charge of his Coven.
So many fates intertwined.
So many lives disrupted…
You are given her POV in this book, and having gone completely off the rails towards the end of it I am interested in seeing how the author ties her story into the bigger picture of everything going on, bearing in mind who her potential mate is I think The Wicked Vampre has the potential to be one helluva read! December cannot come soon enough.

I think this is the best one yet. It surprised me because I honestly wasn't that interested in Saeed's story from what little pieces we got of him in previous books.
As much as I love the soul tethering these vamps experience when they find their mate, I really liked this one more since it didn't happen right away. Saeed's determination and loyalty despite not tethering showed his love for Cery to be stronger. I really liked how Saeed had to earn her love and trust first.
There is a lot going on in this series with so many characters and so many of them having their own agenda. It keeps readers on their toes and prevents boredom in the story line. But if you don't start at the beginning, it can be hard to get invested. I highly recommend starting with the first book.
I'm really looking forward to the next one. I believe it's Sasha and Ewan's story next and the fact that the author paired a Vampire with their enemy, a Beserker, I can't wait to see how this is gonna play out and what it is going to do to affect the overall plot. ARC provided by NetGalley.

'The Lost Vampire' by Kate Baxter is the Fifth book in The "Last True Vampire" series. This is the story of Cerys and Saeed. I have read most of the of the other books in this series and I do feel that it helps if you have done so too. Although this can be a standalone, I just think you will understand the story better if you have read the previous stories.
Saeed is without his sole and he thinks if he finds his soulmate he will regain his sole.
Cerys is being held hostage by the mage Rin who uses her to steal souls.
But can Saeed rescue Cerys and will see actually be able to heal them both... exciting read for sure!

Cerys is a soul thief who is being held hostage by the mage Rin. He’s kind of like a mafia boss and Cerys is his hitman. Instead of whacking someone who has double crossed the boss, she is sent in to take their soul. In the previous book Saeed, while lost in a dreamland the vampires call The Collective, discovered the fae he believes to be his mate. He lost his soul when he was turned but once connected with his mate, her soul will tether to his and it will be returned to him. Unfortunately, this soul thief is soulless and there is no tethering.
Cerys character is typical of what you might expect of a fae that has been held prisoner for thousands of years and expected to perform when called upon. She’s definitely tough but so lost and misses the fact that she can’t feel emotion. Saeed has been labeled “mad” because he has spent much of his vampire life in The Collective, looking for his fae mate.
While I enjoyed Cerys and Saeed’s story, I was completely lost with all the politics and on goings of the different supernatural factions. I have not read the first books but I did read the previous one and I was still lost. Some of the names were very similar and it made it difficult to keep track of what was going on. Other parts had nothing at all to do with this story but I’m sure the author is building up for the next book. I read The Lost Vampire during a road trip and it was a good choice as a vacation read. The story is evenly paced which made it easy to pick up and put down. Although it is book five in a series, I was able to read and enjoy it as a stand alone story. However, because this story takes place further into the series, there were instances where more context would have provided better understanding for Saeed's history.
Cerys and Saeed are both in bad situations that feel inescapable to them. Cerys is basically enslaved to Rinieri who controls her by holding her soul captive and using her powers for his own purposes. I enjoyed Cerys as a character; she has the strength of will to do whatever is needed to take care of herself in a horrible situation. She does not come off as weak or beaten down, but instead as a woman who is surviving in a position that would break most people. It was also nice that Cerys doesn't instantly fall for Saeed and look to him to save her. Instead, Saeed becomes a steady force that she can eventually count on to help her reclaim her soul.
The Lost Vampire has plenty of action to move the story along as well as the building of a romance between two complicated people. There is also the buildup of the story that will probably be the next installment of the series. So although Cerys and Saeed's story comes to a nice conclusion, I was left interested in what will happen next. Because I enjoyed The Lost Vampire, I think that I will at some point go back and start at the beginning of this series so that I can get the other stories that lead up to this point.

I've been really enjoying this series. I don't often read vampire romance anymore, unfortunately I've gotten a little tired of them, but for some reason I really enjoy reading Kate Baxter's The Last True Vampire series!
I really enjoy her writing and the characters she writes about. Each book moves the main thread along while still gives you a individual story. You can't ask for more. Or could you?
At first I couldn't remember Saeed. It bugged me trying to figure out who he was. Then it finally hit me. I have no clue how I could have forgotten him, but it happens. And believe me it wasn't because he was one of those characters you quickly forget about, I really enjoyed him. It was me, all me. I sometimes mix characters up. Ha!
I was so sad for Cerys. Her life for a long, long time has been shit! Having someone control your every move isn't fun or life fulfilling. You really wanted her to find happiness and to be free, her own person.
The wonderful part is that both Saeed and Cerys is each others everything! How wonderful is that? Together they can take on anyone, and have. Both have their own issues and doubts that they have to work through and by the end do so.
You can read The Lost Vampire as a stand alone but I very much enjoyed reading them in order even if it did take a chapter to remember Saeed. I just feel the story reads better having read the ones before.

This book continues on where the last book left off and focuses on the Vampire Saeed, newly turned and looking for his mate.
We meet Cerys, his mate who has been a slave of a mage for thousands of years and who has had her soul taken from her. Saeed does what he has to to gain her trust and her love while aiding her in her escape and the retrieval of her soul.
The books are also getting more complex within the story they are weaving and the amount of characters that we are getting a POV from. However it all merges to give a bigger picture in the world that the author is creating for our enjoyment.
This was another book that i just could not put down and i almost hope that the books just continue, however, i also want to find out what happens at the end of all things when it all pulls together.
I love this series.

This is book five in this series and can be read as a standalone, however, to clearly understand Saeed, Diego, Sasha and Mikhail, it would be advised to read the previous book. You could get by without it. I recommend reading the entire series, as there is a running plot.
This is my favorite of the series so far. I couldn’t wait for Saeed’s story as I was intrigued from the previous book learning of his struggles with his time spent in The Collective. The Collective is memories of long dead vampires and these visions happen to newly turned vampires. It usually passes; however, Saeed is obsessed with the fiery redhead that haunts his dreams. He is convinced that she is his mate and he is determined to find her. He has spent so much time in The Collective, he fears he is going mad. His coven is worried over his sanity. He finds out from an oracle where she is so he leaves his coven and his responsibilities in LA and heads to Seattle to find his mate.
Cerys is a fae that is a soul thief and is greatly feared for this ability. The sad thing is that Cerys also has lost her soul as payment to bind her to Rinieri. She has worked for him for centuries and with each soul that she retrieves for Rin, a part of her is depleted and she fears that she will soon be dead because of Rin draining her powers. Cerys is a strong, skilled fighter, smart and beautiful. When Cerys meets Saeed she is attracted to him and she is intrigued. When Saeed finally gets her alone and explains his reasons for being in Seattle, to claim her as his mate, she doesn’t believe him. There is something about him that calls to her. Saeed is so fierce but when he is with Cerys, he is tender and romantic and he is so confident in himself and in his love for Cerys that she can’t help but question everything that she thought she knew.
This book takes you on Saeed and Cerys journey to free Cerys soul from Rin and gain her freedom from her indenture to Rin so she is able to tether her soul to Saeed. Their connection is built on trust, and Saeed is a magnificent hero. They fight side by side and he will do everything in his power to protect her. He is old fashioned as he is one of the oldest dhampirs that was recently turned to a vampire to aid in growing the vampire race since they were eradicated with the exception of Mikhail.
There are vampires, shifters, faes, mages and berserkers to name a few. There are twists and turns that keep you entertained and a beautiful love story that makes your heart soar. I loved Saeed and Cerys story and I can’t wait for the next book!
If you like paranormal romance, give this book and series a try!

The Lost Vampire tells Saeed's story. He's lived a very long life, millennia, initially as a dhamphir more recently as one of a handful of vampires. Upon losing his soul (as all newly turned, untethered - unmated - vampires do), he lost himself to the Collective. Through the memories of vampires long since dead, the Collective had shown him the female that would tether his soul. He passes his job as a dhamphir coven leader off to two of his trusted friends (newly turned Sasha and Diego) so that he can search for ... the fae with hair like fire. Saeed is convinced Cerys Bain is his mate and will tether his soul. He has no idea where to find her, but that doesn't stop him. What might ... Cerys is under the command and the property of a mage, Rinieri (Rin) de Rege.
There are several different story arcs in the series, therefore I recommend reading the books in order. This installment didn't change much of the bigger picture, but I suspect we'll see more action soon. Oh how I revel in new vampire romance! Has anyone noticed that vampire romance has petered out a bit? Well Kate Baxter brings to life a new world with her Last True Vampire series. An interesting new take on a world were vampires have almost gone extinct and those that remain must regain their race's footing.
In "The Lost Vampire" we meet Saeed, a newly created vampire, who's on a mission to find the woman who's plagued his mind for years. Through a vampire collective memory (aptly named The Collective) he's seen memories of his true mate over and over throughout time. He's been entranced by her and finally, now mere cities away from her, he thinks he can find and tether her soul to regain his.
Unfortunately his one true mate, Cerys, is a soul stealer and through a tragic past has lost her own soul; leaving her unable to tether herself to Saeed in a way that convinces her of their true bond. I loved the whole world that Baxter created and I already had book 1 on my TBR shelf so I've wanted to dig in to this series before. And I am so glad that I did. Baxter's vampire world is reminiscent of Lynsay Sands Argeneau series in that she has created a new outlook on the history of supernatural races that isn't too convoluted nor is it too far out there to be unbelievable. I'll definitely be reading the first few books in this series but this was a wonderful start! I do recommend reading from the beginning. It can be read as a standalone but I felt lost at times when their were secondary character views that I didn't understand their significance.
Oh how I revel in new vampire romance! Has anyone noticed that vampire romance has petered out a bit? Well Kate Baxter brings to life a new world with her Last True Vampire series. An interesting new take on a world were vampires have almost gone extinct and those that remain must regain their race's footing.
In "The Lost Vampire" we meet Saeed, a newly created vampire, who's on a mission to find the woman who's plagued his mind for years. Through a vampire collective memory (aptly named The Collective) he's seen memories of his true mate over and over throughout time. He's been entranced by her and finally, now mere cities away from her, he thinks he can find and tether her soul to regain his.
Unfortunately his one true mate, Cerys, is a soul stealer and through a tragic past has lost her own soul; leaving her unable to tether herself to Saeed in a way that convinces her of their true bond. This is the 5th book in the series, and it is awesome. It is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. It is not necessary to read in order though it probably makes everything even better if you do.

This was a really enjoyable read. I loved the story and the characters. Some of the characters I didn't like. The Lost Vampire is an action packed paranormal. If you read the last book in the series you will remember that Saeed was not doing well. The endless search for his mate had taken its toll. We now find Saeed making plans for his future and Cerys is the most vital element in making them a reality. He must find his mate regardless of the dangers and they must overcome the damage time apart and an evil mage has conceived. Cerys is lost and questions the relationship with Saeed. Her secret could destroy everything he has been working towards and leave them exactly where they started. Baxter delivers female heroines that are bold, who have a knack for taking care of themselves, and Cerys is no exception. Saeed is a keeper! There is something sexy and desirable about a man who knows what he wants and knows how to get it. I can't wait for the next story in the series.

THIS WAS JUST THE KIND OF BOOK THAT I NEEDED TO READ RIGHT NOW!! I was so excited to read this book, especially when I saw that the main character and I shared the same name, but it's not just that that had me so excited to read The Lost Vampire; the blurb instantly sucked me in, and this series has been popping up on my Facebook newsfeed all the time, and every book has sounded so good that I'm always checking and double checking that this series is definitely on my TBR. When I requested and was granted this ARC, I immediately wanted to jump right on in, but this is the fifth book in this series, and I was at first hesitant to start reading it since I've not yet read any of the other books in this series, and that's something that you should do before reading this book.
Sure, I guess The Lost Vampire could be considered a standalone novel, but whenever I was introduced to new characters, it was clear by the lack of description of who they are, what they look like, and what their supernatural power is and all that jazz that this character has been introduced in this series before. I'm not 100% sure, but I think this may be a series where there's an ongoing story happening throughout the books, so I highly recommend that you read every book in the series before doing what I did and reading this book first.
It took me a few chapters to get into the story and catch up with who's who and what's what with the limited information I have on these characters, but once I was caught up and knew what was going on - like the fact that Vampires are pretty much extinct in this world - I was instantly hooked to this story, and I did not want it to end.
When turned into a Vampire, Saeed lost his soul, and in his soulless state he has found comfort in the Collective (the memories of dead Vampires that newly turned Vampires see), but in spending so much time in those memories, it's slowly turning Saeed mad. In order to be able to ignore the Collective and be the leader that his coven needs, he needs his soul, and in order to obtain his soul once again, he needs to find his mate. The first time he saw her was in a memory from the Collective, and instantly he knew she was the one for him, but when he goes in search of her and finds her and comes face to face with Cerys - his mate - his soul has still not returned. But how could it? The soul of your mate is the one thing that could return a soul to a Vampire, and Cerys had her soul taken from her centuries ago.
For all those centuries, Cerys has been used and abused by the man holding her soul captive, and she's forced to use her unique gift in taking other people's souls for her capturer's gain. She's feared and hated by many, and without her soul, she constantly feels empty and lost, but it's when Saeed comes into the picture and claims that he's there for her that everything changes, and when Saeed learns of her lost soul, he'll do anything to both find it and return it to Cerys, and will stop at nothing in making sure that his mate is free from the clutches of Rinieri de Rege.
This was such an amazing paranormal romance, one that took me by surprise. It all seemed so real, like these supernatural creatures that I'm currently reading about could be real and living among us, and I think that's what kept me hooked to this story. The writing was phenomenal, and the uniqueness and originality to this story kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. And both Cerys and Saeed were AMAZING characters; Cerys may feel empty and lost, but she was such a kickass, feisty, badass fae, and I loved her instantly. Same with Saeed; he's an awesome Vampire who's loyal to a fault, and he captured my heart in the first few chapters.
I was truly blown away by The Lost Vampire, and I'm now itching to get my hands on the rest of the books of this series, especially the next book - Sasha's book - because with how she was at the beginning of this book, compared to how she was by the end... God, I am really, really, really excited to read her story soon!

I really loved the hero and heroine in this romance. Especially the heroine! She's broken and badass and cynical. She also loves to devour burgers and Chinese take out. My kind of girl!
However, I made the mistake of reading this out of sequence of the series. While you can probably make it through without reading the previous books, it'll be a slog at times. I was unaware of some of the terminology and how secondary characters related to one another, giving me some confusion at times.
This was definitely a case of reader error rather than there being a problem with the actual book.

This one gives us a lot of action, mystery, and what I really enjoyed is this was not a insta-love between mates. I love berserker books and the author gives us those also which is a plus for me. I really hope to read the first 3 books in this series so I can learn everyone in more detail.

When I began The Lost Vampire, I was prepared to put up with some selfish, craziness from Saeed. I didn't think he had the organization to get Sasha and Diego turned and prepared to lead his coven while he runs off to Seattle to find his mate. The Collective is driving him into madness and he sees his mate in the Collective's memories. He has to follow the hints he received from the child Foreseer as that is the only lead he has. Saeed believes once he is tethered and his soul is returned, he will be able to get his life back together.
Saeed is going to find getting his soul back just a bit harder than he expects. Cerys is a soul stealer who has had her own soul stolen and now lives in captivity with Rin. Rin uses Cerys to collect souls of those who break their agreements with him. Slowly this is killing Cerys. Saeed believes that once Cerys has her soul back, then she will tether him. He embarks on a plan to get her and her soul away from Rin.
I have to say, The Lost Vampire made me hungry. Cerys tries to fill the emptiness that was her soul's with food, and lots of it! Cerys tries not to get her hopes up about Saeed's plan, and tries to keep him away from Rin. Unfortunately she ends up losing Saeed and being pushed at Gregor. What Gregor is after is a mystery. Even after he helps Saeed get Cerys, Gregor's intentions are hidden. Saeed doesn't wait for Gregor to change his mind and quickly gets Cerys back to LA. He'll discover Gregor's plans soon enough.
Cerys was a great, spunky character. Even after thousands of years being Rin's captive, she still has an attitude with him. She's kept a part of herself that keeps her from becoming too submissive. Saeed seems to be obsessed with Cerys, which worries her, but he is able to keep his head straight for the most part. I feel like he had desperation and I wasn't crazy about that characteristic. It took away from the strong hero outlook I wanted to have for him. Cerys was a character I really connected with though and I loved all her scenes. I didn't find the book as intense as I was expecting, but I did really enjoy it. We do not see much of our previous characters, probably because the story was based in Seattle, and I missed that a bit. I would like to see them all interact more.
We have some side characters who are building parts in anticipation of the upcoming war as well as their books. I am really excited for The Wicked Vampire and Sasha's story which is coming out December 5, 2017. Saeed was a vampire and on a plane which was like being trapped in the confines of an all- you - can-eat- buffet with strict orders not to eat. He had gorged himself on Sasha;s blood before getting on the plane. The two and a half hour flight hadn’t been long but it seemed like centuries had passed to Saeed. It had seemed lately that no amount of blood could keep him away from the memories that plagues him Saeed had given himself over to the Collection which was the memories of every vampire that had ever existed transferred through the blood at the moment of a vampire’s turning. To Saeed the Collective had become a lifeline to the only thing that could save him here on earth. The Collective had shown Saeed the female that would tether his soul. The members of Saeed’s covet thought Saeed was mad and Saeed’s friends considered him lost. . Sasha and Diego were Saeed’s most trusted advisers. Saeed turned Sasha and Diego just as he had promised Saeed turned the leadership of his covet to Sasha and Diego. Saeed was empty and hollow. As void and black as the night that stretched out before Saeed. Saeed;s soul had been taken from him when he was turned and he was obsessed with getting his soul back. Saeed was following the inarticulate ramblings of a child oracle. Humans were such easy prey drawn to predators like Saeed. Saeed was looking for his mate- a fae . with hair like fire and Saeed would find her, he had to his soul depended on it. Cerys was exhausted if only Rin would give her a chance to sleep but Rin was as wicked as they came.Cerys was his property and under his command, Cerys had carried out a lot of wicked deeds for Rin so she was as wicked as him. Cerys was Rin’s collared pet, the tool that carried out his will. Rin took care of all of Cerys’s needs. Cerys felt as something was coming and it would stir up all all kinds of trouble. Cerys went to the Caged Canary which was primarily a club for supernaturals hang out. Most every supernatural knew Cerys worked for Rin. Rin was a stealer of souls that is why people stayed away from him. Derek was by the pool tables when she got near Derek said he was getting ready to go see Rin but but Cerys knew he was getting ready to run and Cerys cut off Derek’s pinkie finger and told Derek he better have the money to Rin by the next day. Then Cerys picked up his finger. It would be a long five days before Saeed’s heart quit beating, or his lungs quit breathing and his throat became unbearable. Saeed refused to take any vein but his mate’s. No other blood would sate Saeed. I fSaeed didn’t find his mate soon he might go out of his mind completely. Saeed went into a dive bar and a werewolf named Wes recognized Saeed as a vampire. SWes also told Saeed he was the only vampire the werewolf had seen and that there were a lot of talk around the city about Saeed and that Saeed could make a fortune.Wes said he knew Saeed was out every night and had killed a warlock who had wanted Saeed’s blood for some dark magic. Wes had no idea who Saeed was and what he was capable of. Then after Saeed asked who was at the top and Wes said Rinieri de Rege/Rin who was a mage and the boss of the local underworld. . Then the shifter said Rin was much worse than the warlocks and said Rin had a place called the Crimson and was there every night. Caerys was at Crimson with Rin all Cerys wanted to do was go home and sleep but they were at Crimson every night as Rin was an attention floozie. No one wanted to be around Cerys as she was a soul thief. Rin had made Cerys an assassin. Cerys had tried alcohol as the absence of her soul left Cerys feeling perpetually empty, hungary. Alcohol only managed to make Cerys feel emptier. Food was Cerys’s vice. Cerys had been working for Rin for a thousand years. Rin had Cerys ‘s soul and until she could find it she had to obey Rin’s orders. Every soul Cerys retrieves a part of herself is depleted. Cerys worries she will soon be dead. When Saeed finally finds Cerys and they meet she is attracted to Saeed and intrigued with Saeed’s belief was she was his mate.

REVIEW: THE LOST VAMPIRE is the fifth installment in Kate Baxter’s contemporary, adult LAST TRUE VAMPIRE paranormal, romance series. This is newly turned vampire Saeed Almasi, and Fae /soul thief Cerys Bain’s story line. THE LOST VAMPIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.

I probably would have rounded up instead of down for this one except for the fact that there was just so little Mikhail in it (practically none at all, really). I know it's not his book, but he's still my favorite and I want more of him.
What I liked probably most with this book is that the main couple here did not fall in love in an instant. The last six books I've read have made insta-love a very urksome thing to me so this was almost refreshing with it taking weeks at least.
By the end of the last book, I was a bit worried about how much I would like Saeed here. He's lucky he won me over. He ended up being a great guy once he got his head out of the damn collective. I loved the way he talked and acted. He might have been a little too full of himself considering he was newly turned, but that wasn't surprising.
I also liked Cerys. Over a thousand years as Rin's slave have changed her. But she also has made herself into a cold and uncaring person as a way to keep moving. A rare type of fae, Cerys is a soul stealer. Having been betrayed by her own sister, Rin holds possession of Cerys' own soul and forces her to do his bidding. Even though it kills her a little bit more each time she takes another's soul. She hates her life and she especially hates Rin. But she IS taken care of, in a fashion, and she really sees no point in even hoping for change let alone wanting it. Until Saeed shows up.
Saeed was so sure that Cerys was his mate, but when she fails to tether his soul he is at a loss as to why. Even so, he still believes that she is his and is determined to prove it to her. Playing a dangerous game with Rin, Saeed puts himself into place as Cerys' bodyguard. Weeks pass as the two of them get closer and learn more about the other, but Saeed is no closer to finding where Rin has hidden her soul. Cerys has lived so long without emotion that when she feels things around Saeed she is taken by surprise. Worst of all is the hope she feels from his unfailing conviction that she is meant to be his and he will free her from her soulless state. Add to that the fact that he is the only person to treat her with kindness and actually wants to be around her, and her heart is done for. No matter how hard she tries to push him away or change his mind, Saeed refuses to leave without her.
When Gregor and some of his men show up in Seattle, things take a very quick turn for the worst. Despite the danger, Rin sends Cerys out to collect another soul. Were it not for Saeed, she would have no doubt died there. As it was, even Saeed barely makes it back to his condo. They end losing themselves to each other, and then losing track of time. Which leads to something that was easy to see coming. When the sun finally goes down, Saeed is out of time and out of options. Making a very temporary alliance with an interesting fae named Fallon, it's off to Rin's club. I really liked how everything went down there and did not expect Gregor to do what he did.
It may have ended well for Saeed, but Sasha has gone off the deep end. I honestly don't like what her character has turned into. So I guess, much like with Saeed, I can only hope that she doesn't piss me off too much in her book next.

If you read The Untamed Vampire you should be pretty acquainted with Saeed who was turned by Mikhail and then promptly swept up in the memories of the Collective. While looking through the memories of those long since dead, Saeed sees a beautiful Fae woman. Instantly he knows this woman is meant to tether his soul. When he's given information that suggests the fae woman is in Seattle, Saeed quickly steps down as head of his coven, and departs.
What awaits Saeed is an entrapment that is centuries long. Cerys Bain was captured by the feared mage Rinieri de Rege centuries ago. As a soul thief, Cerys generates enough fear on her own merit, but being under the command of Rin, and people try to avoid her at all costs. It's been a lonely existence for Cerys, but when she meet Saeed and he speaks about tethering, she can't help but draw a little bit of hope about one day being free, no matter how futile this hope may be.
I loved the build up of Saeed and Cerys' story in the previous book. I think that maybe this set me up for certain expectations, and while I still really enjoyed their romance, it didn't quite meet the expectations I had myself set up for.
While, yes, Saeed has been looking for Cerys for months and envisioning her within the Collective, Cerys doesn't know anything about Saeed. So I felt her attraction wasn't as genuine as Saeed's, understandable so of course. I would have like to have seen a little more balance in regards to Cerys' feelings for Saeed. I felt like the action of the storyline moved along too quickly. Really, the story is supposed to take place over the course of weeks thereby giving Cerys and Saeed the ability to get to know one another, but for me, it didn't feel like that. Had it, I think I would have been more on board with Cerys' feelings for Saeed.
I did love the insertion of the fae into the supernatural mix of this series. Of course the vampires take center stage, but I like that it's not just vampire and vampire tethering that's happening. I love that the world has been expanded out a bit more, and this includes Saeed actually leaving LA. True, he doesn't travel too far, but I like that things are growing as the series grows.
One of the big draws for me, and something that Kate Baxter has really executed well up to this point, is the overarching storyline with Ian Gregor and the berserkers. Their backstory, and the history they have with the vampires is very interesting. What's more interesting is Gregor's endgame. How is everything being set into place for the finale? I think we still have a few more set-ups, before then. Besides the Gregor storyline, Kate Baxter seems to have some interesting character romances in the works. I say "seems to" because I never know how these things will end up playing out, but I can't wait to see.
So far, this has been a great series, that keeps getting better.

I LOVE this series!! This is the fifth installment of "The Last True Vampire" series and I really would suggest reading the others so you have a stronger sense of what's going on. The characters are interrelated and the individual story lines play a part in the plot of the series as a whole. Plus they are really fun reads!
"The Lost Vampire" wasn't my favorite in the series. The heat factor I am used to in these books was sadly missing with only just a couple of steamy scenes. The author is good at bringing some sizzling chemistry into the mix and I felt like I needed a few more scenes so I could really feel that connection. The plot was good but I almost felt like a lot of this book was more to further the plot of future characters.
That being said, it was still really very good. The pace was swift and while not quite as much action as some of the previous books it still had enough to keep me flipping pages. While not my favorite couple, I did grew to like both Saeed and Cerys. One thing I love about this series is that the female characters totally kick ass. They usually have a great combination of delicacy and badassedness. The guys are deliciously alpha and although protective they work as a team with their mate. I liked that the "tether", the connection of two souls in this series, was missing at first. Not that I didn't love that in the other books, but it was a nice switch. Saeed and Cerys had to figure out their connection on their own. It made them really get to know each other better and learn to trust each other with out the "supernatural" component. By the end of the book I really loved the pairing of the two.
I'm very much looking forward to the next book which I believe is Sasha and Ewan's. Sasha has been a side character in the past couple of books but not enough that I feel a connection to her so I am interested in learning what makes her tick. And super excited she's paired with a berserker. That should be interesting. Can't wait!

This book was everything I wanted from a book about the broody and (maybe) crazy Saeed. I started the story unsure of how I felt about that particular character but he ended up being a pretty good guy.
When we last saw Saeed, he was going insane, falling into the Collective, and determined to find the mystery woman he was convinced was his mate. Having only seen her in the visions from the Collective, he obviously had nowhere to start looking. That was remedied by the helpful young seer, and off he went. He abandoned everything he cared about (some with pretty hurt feelings) and began his chase.
Cerys is an enslaved fae who has the deadly power to steal someone’s soul. The power isn’t infinite, and she convinced that any time now might be her last. The mage that owns her has little regard for her safety and keeps her on a short leash. It is through this connection that the two soul mates finally meet. It isn’t really with sparks and fireworks, since they are both missing their souls, but instead tests both their faith in the tether.
The other larger story revolves around the hunt for a dhampir who began the berserker’s downward spiral. All of our favorite side characters make an appearance, slowly progressing things to their inevitable conclusion (hopefully soon in the upcoming books). I’m completely addicted to this story and each of the unique love stories contained therein. I will devour each one until there are no more left to read!

An interesting take on the supernatural genre, where it's not only vampires that walk among us - it's also mages, fae, shifters, and lots of other mythical creatures from around the globe. I hadn't read any of the earlier books in the series before picking up "The Lost Vampire," and while there were a couple things I couldn't make heads or tails of due to jumping in at the middle, I was able to figure out most of the mythology and world-building, at least at a high level. However, because I didn't know the backstory about any of the characters, I didn't feel as invested in some of the side stories (Sasha, for example) nor did I get the full impact of some of the twists and turns. That being said, there were some cool ideas here that I hadn't read before in the vampire genre - specifically the whole stealing souls aspect - and I liked the character of Cerys especially.
A lot of the drama started to wear on me, though. The whole 'I'm empty and lost but I know this other creature can complete me' and 'everyone is conspiring to keep us apart but I will die for you' just went on and on and on. It felt like we had to rehash everything at the beginning of every single chapter, and I just wanted the story to get on with it already! When it finally did, for the big finale, it was pretty awesome. I just wish more of the book had that momentum and creative magic.

The Lost Vampire is the fifth book in the Last True Vampire series by Kate Baxter. This was a fabulous paranormal romance that easily kept me entertained until the end.
I really love this paranormal series and the intriguing world the author has created. I have loved every book so far and this one was no exception. Saeed was definitely struggling in the last book. He was right on the edge of insanity, but as this story opened, we find the beleagured vampire taking a soul searching journey to find his mate. Cerys is the one who can tether his soul but the powerful Fae is in big trouble herself. She is a soul reaper, hated and feared by all, and a hostage to an evil Mage.
I really loved Saeed and Cerys and worried they could never find a way to be together. The situation seemed fairly hopeless even before the author threw in some twists to complicate the plot. The writing was perfect and set up some future stories for other characters, as well. I always love it when that happens cause then I have something to look forward to later. I really liked how the author deviated on a few aspects and kept me guessing about the HEA for a while.
I loved everthing about this book / series and can't wait for the next book.

What would you do to find your mate? In Saeed's case anything as he has been looking for Cerys forever and now he has an idea where she could be. He gives up his coven to go find her and he just has to get her to tether to him but it doesn't go according to plan when he finds her. Cerys has no soul, her boss Rin took it years ago and she is now his slave and she is also rare she is a soul eater and that gives her boss the advantage over other supernaturals. And Saeed only knows of one way to get her away from him so he joins his crew, now he just has to get Cerys on his side before she kills herself.
Cerys isn't to sure about him as he seems to have a death wish and she can't believe that she deserves someone to love her. Can she really have a chance at happiness and away from Rin for good? But they don't only have to worry about Rin as the beserkers are in town and they want Cerys but why? And Saeed knows that they will still come for her but he has given his word so they will have to wait and see what will come for them. A new-to-me author I jumped in with book 5 of the Last True Vampire series. I felt that Ms. Baxter did a good job of capturing the story line until now so that jumping in this late in the game was not too confusing. There were some secondary characters, over-arching plot lines I did have some confusion with but the overall world building and character development were easy to enjoy. Saeed is a vampire who has spent years without his soul knowing that once he meets his true mate he'll finally find completion. He begins his hunt for his mate in Seattle and finds her in Cerys, a fae who can steal souls. I was very excited to read this book because of wanting to know what was going to happen to the crazy vampire Saeed after the ending of the last book. Thankfully, this story didn't disappoint! In this book, you are given a deeper insight into the memories Saeed has had to deal with and why he's become obsessed with finding the woman he believes will be his mate. What was even more interesting was learning about Cerys' backstory and origins. She's a supernatural creature that we haven't encountered previously in the series. I liked that it didn't take forever for the two lead characters to finally get something going in the romance department. There's already been enough of a lead-up to their romance in the last book. This book also continues the overlying story of the berserkers trying to exact their revenge on the Sortiari and the vampires. A great part of this story was that it contained a lot of action which I really liked and gave the story a focus other than the romance. In addition, I'm very excited to read the next book in the series which is about Sasha who becomes out of control at the end of this book.

Although this book could be read as a stand alone I advise that you read the previous book to understand who Saeed is and what he is struggling with. Otherwise you might be a little lost when you read about the Collective, Diego, Sasha, and Mikhail.
Anyways, I really enjoyed this book better than the previous one. I love the way Saeed speaks all sure of himself and what he wants. His protective side is hot too. I was expecting a little more fight from Cerys where Saeed was concerned. She was really struggling with what she wanted and needed. She knew that having Saeed is what she needed but she couldn't help questioning if she deserved him.
This book was full of action and mystery. Cery's is hiding something from Saeed which Rin holds against her. I liked the concept of their souls being tethered once they found their mate. I thought it was a clever twist on the whole mate thing.
Totally recommend this book to those who like vampire and fae books that have romance and action.

Saeed is a newly-turned vampire, after being a dhampir for centuries. He's struggling with the changes and is convinced he's not gonna survive...unless he finds the one person who is destined to tether his soul. Cerys is a fae with problems of her own....she's being controlled by a ruthless mage who is forcing her to do his bidding (taking the souls of people who have "wronged" him). Saeed knows Cerys is for him but she takes some convincing...plus the whole "she belongs to an evil mage" thing. Can Saeed save Cerys...while hoping that at the same time she'll save him? Read and see.
This is the 5th book in the series. It's considered a standalone but I do think you need to read the other books in the series to know who all the characters are and how they fit it this world (I haven't read them all and felt a little lost at times). Overall, I did enjoy this book and loved Saeed and Cerys as a couple.
