Book four in Laura Trentham’s Cottonbloom series sees the introduction of the Abbott Brothers, and their Garage & Restoration business.
I am a huge fan of all things Trentham, from the Falcon Football days, and all the way through the Cottonbloom series, Leave The Night On although a decent read, fell a little short on my expectations.
She was Southern femininity and grace. And he was a grease monkey…
I think my main issue was the fact that Sutton and Wyatt’s relationship wasn’t as well balanced as previous couples in this series have been. I don’t mean because of their difference in social stature in the Cottombloom hierarchy so much, as the fact that what starts out as a ‘fauxmance’ and then develops into more, seemed to be all on Wyatt’s part, bearing in mind Sutton is the one who lied, and expects him to play along with the charade, the way she treated him at points thereafter really grated on my nerves.
I think this was exacerbated more by the fact, that Wyatt is a classic Laura Trentham male, sweet, caring, and willing to do anything for his woman. Sutton abused that amicability several times, and pretty much every time I started to warm a little to her she went and did it again. I’ll be honest I thought it would be the ex-drama that would be a problem for me with this one, and it actually turned out to be the characterization.
"I knew going into this I would never be more than her rebound."
That-said I still pretty much read the book in one sitting, the brothers all get a little page time, so you know who's, who and what they are about as well. The little teases for Willa and Jackson were there to keep me invested in the series as a whole too, and I cannot wait to get my hands on their book; When the Stars Come Out which sadly isn’t due for release until January 2018.

Sutton Mize thought her life was all planned out. Get married to her longtime family friend turned fiancé, run her small town Mississippi clothing boutique and pop out some kids. Life was good.
That plan gets a swift kick in the butt when her bff's undies are found under the seat of her fiancé's car. The only thing worse than suffering that revelation is having it happen in front of Wyatt Abbott.
Wyatt had always been attracted to Sutton as a teenager but the two had never run in the same social circles. When Sutton hires his auto shop to fix up her fiancé's classic camaro, that spark is still there. Agreeing to spend a few weeks playing Sutton's new boyfriend while she saves face seems like the perfect way for them both to get what they want.
I picked this book up at just the right time. I was looking for a well written, light contemporary romance with a strong story. Luckily, that's just what I got. Laura Trentham does an outstanding job of laying the foundation for this slow burning southern love story, both with vivid descriptions and colloquial references. It all worked for me.
Sutton and Wyatt could've been the stereotypical prissy girl/rough around the edges guy kind of love story we've all seen a thousand times. To an extent, it was. The characters and the way they evolved for the better, both individually and together set this one apart from most.
I enjoyed the more smokin' bits to Wyatt and Sutton's story and the slow burn feel upped the heat for me, but I wasn't always feeling the chemistry between the two.
Laura Trentham is a new to me author I'm definitely putting on my future read list. More stories from Cottonbloom can only be a good thing.

Sutton Mize was wanting to do something special for her fiancee before their upcoming wedding so after tossing around ideas she decides to take his Camaro in to be restored. After arriving at the shop ran by Wyatt Abbott Sutton has the unthinkable happen to an upcoming bride, a pair of underwear are found under the seat of the car. Sutton knows right away being that they are a specialty order from her own boutique who they belong to, her own best friend.
Wyatt agrees to give Sutton a ride home so that she can have some time to think about what to do with what she has found out. While confronting her fiancee Sutton finds herself hurt but not heartbroken to find out that he has been using her friend as much as he seems to be using her too. Ending the engagement Sutton also tries to save a bit of dignity by telling him she had her own affair with Wyatt. Now to only get Wyatt to agree to pretending to be in a relationship for awhile.
Leave the Night On is the fourth book in the Cottonbloom series by Laura Trentham. I didn't realize this was even a series when I picked it up to read but thankfully as with most romance/contemporary series the book reads find as a standalone novel as each in the series feature a new couple.
While I'm not a huge fan of jumping into a new relationship right after ending a serious one this book did a good job at making that not seem quite as bad to me. Sutton obviously was in her previous relationship more because it was what was expected of her than actually being in love. With starting something up with Wyatt it's also done as the pretense of fake which I actually kind of like stories like this as it gives the characters time to develop feelings while being together.
Overall, in the end with the story and characters and all that was involved I decided to give this one 3.5 stars and would look into reading more by this author in the future.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
It's no secret that Cottonbloom is one of my happy places, so I'm happy to pack my bags and head off there at any given opportunity and this time around the series shifts focus from the Fournette siblings to the Abbott's: four brothers, with very different personalities, who joint own the town's garage and vehicle restoration business.
“She was Southern femininity and grace. And he was a grease monkey.“
I'll be honest, I was as nervous going into this after reading the blurb because I'm not a fan of the fauxmance trope. But it quickly became apparent that my reservations were unfounded as whilst Wyatt and Sutton's romance may have an expiry date, the countdown to it is a heated and heartfelt one.
“...she’s going to rip your heart into little pieces and feed it to the gators before she goes back to her old life.”
What made this the story it was was the lack of drama and how the difference in social stature wasn't heavily played upon, as with Sutton being the daughter of Cottonbloom's judge, residing on the affluent side of the river and expected to marry someone of equal stature, and Wyatt coming from the less wealthy side and being less polished, that could have easily not been the case. And this is precisely why I love Laura Trentham's writing because she knows how to create a couple to fall in love with; regardless of their situation.
Wyatt was perfect: thoughtful and protective but not overbearing he wears his heart on his sleeve and was attractive all round. Sutton was as frustrating as she was loveable and although early on I could understand her thinking, towards the end I started to want to shake her. Yet she brought many of the more surprising moments in terms of character and there's no question that Wyatt brings out the best in her.
“I heard you’re good with your...wrench.”
All in all not my favourite couple of the series so far but still a strong addition and one that can be easily read if you're unfamiliar with the previous books. I can't wait to see what Laura has in store for Wyatt's twin, Jackson in When the Stars Come Out.

I was so happy to be back in Cottonbloom! Leave The Night On is definitely a great addition to the series. New characters are introduced, promising more stories to tell, and there are some cameo appearances of the Fournette family. Laura Trentham’s writing is fantastic. This author really has an impressive way of evolving her characters until you feel you’re reading about people you know. Her characters are vibrant and easy to love (I’ll make an exception for the villain of the Abbott family).
Sutton Mize is the daughter of a prominent family from the posh Mississippi side of Cottonbloom. Wyatt Abbott is a car mechanic from the working-class Louisiana side. When Sutton is betrayed by both her fiancé and her best friend, Wyatt offers his help to get even with them. Sutton and Wyatt are no strangers to each other, but have never been on friendly terms, partly due to Wyatt’s awkward attempts to attract Sutton’s attention when they were teenagers. More separated them than just the river, they never moved in the same circles.
Sutton feels vulnerable and hurt. When she rather thoughtlessly tells her cheating fiancé that she is romantically involved with Wyatt, they start a fake relationship they both consider as a short-lived business arrangement. I enjoyed the slow burn building of their relationship. Sutton is irresistibly drawn to Wyatt by feelings that have nothing to do with logic or reason. She enjoys his luminous personality, his honesty and his kindness. But she doesn’t trust easily and needs time to heal the pain from the betrayal. Wyatt is willing to wait, he isn’t one to back down from a challenge.
This sweet and charming look at love, set in a quirky small town, was a delightful read and a definite keeper on my shelf. I loved everything about this story, the characters, the storytelling, the pace, the perfect balance between emotions and humor. The cast of secondary characters add depth and warmth to the story. Wyatt’s twin aunts are something else and I can’t wait to read more about the Abbott brothers, although I’m not sure if Laura Trentham will manage to redeem the eldest one, Ford Abbott. If you enjoy small town romances, I highly recommend this book! If you haven’t started the series yet, this story works perfectly well as a standalone.

Wyatt is the mechanic extraordinaire. Yes, please. I have a soft spot for dirty mechanics. He works in his family-owned garage with his 3 brothers. He’s known Sutton since they were kids, but they grew up on different sides of the river. Wyatt has had a crush on Sutton since they were kids, but she was from another world, compared to his.
Sutton is….was engaged. Without spoiling anything, her heart is broken early in the book, and Wyatt happens to be right there when it happens. A quick bond is formed between them, and to save face, Sutton volunteers Wyatt to be her fake relationship to get back at her previous fiancé.
To Sutton, Wyatt is dangerous. Her feelings are honeyed and gooey and a little bit scary. I loved the attraction between them. Wyatt is the perfect blend of sexy, good guy with an edge. He is the adventure in life that Sutton needs. It was a slow burn, but worth it in the end.
“I heard you’re good with your…wrench.” Her glace down as instinctive as her retreat had been. She held her breath in the ensuing stillness.
“Out of all the tools available, you didn’t pick screwdriver?” He bobbed in to lay a kiss on the tip of her nose. “You’re so dang cute.”
I love me a good fake relationship story, especially when it starts to become a little less fake. I loved the small-town, southern feel of this book. It was relaxing and these two were so adorable. I had been wanting to read Laura Trentham for a while, and I’m so glad I finally did.

Sutton takes her fiancé’s car to Wyatt’s family’s garage for restoration. When Wyatt is helping her clean it out for drop off, Sutton discovers evidence that her fiancé is having an affair with another woman and her best friend.
Wyatt has always had a thing for Sutton so when Sutton, trying to save face, tells everyone she’s with Wyatt, Wyatt agrees to help her back up her story by playing her boyfriend.
I found Leave the Night On interesting and cute but had a very predicable plot. Well mostly predicable, I truly cannot fathom Sutton’s ability for forgiveness. I think that is flip flop is what was the final straw in my going from really liking to a 3.5 for me. Okay, I can even go with forgiveness but not engaging in friendship again, it just didn’t work for me.
Easy, enjoyable and entertaining, Leave the Night On is a feel good, sweet read with little to no humor or subterfuge.
I received this ARC copy of Leave the Night from St. Martin's Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. This book is set for publication August 1, 2017.
Leave The Night On by Laura Trentham was a sweet, fun and heartwarming read.
The writing was well done, the storyline kept me turning the pages and I enjoyed watching Sutton and Wyatt's relationship develop.
Wyatt was a sweetheart, I loved his honesty, his big heart and how much of himself he gives to the people he loves and cares for. Sutton took a little longer for me to like, the more time I spent in her head the more she grew on me. By then end of the book I had no doubt these two were going to have a long and happy life together.
Leave The Night On introduces us to the Abbott brothers and for me the brothers relationship added to my overall enjoyment. Each brother brings something to the book and I'm looking forward to watching them find their own happily ever after.
In closing, Leave The Night On is a good addition to the Cottonbloom series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all.
From book 1 I have been a fan of Cottonbloom. Be it the Louisiana side or the Mississippi side I’ve enjoyed every single book.
Until now.
I still love the quirkiness of the towns. The secondary characters really add to the book. The Louisiana side is my favourite. I’m sure to read more but this just didn’t work for me.
I can’t quite pinpoint where it went wrong. I’ve also had to pull on me grownup girl knickers and figure shit out why it didn’t work for me. I’m going wiggle myself through this one.
I loved Wyatt Abbott, hell I loved all the Abbotts well except Ford but when you read about him in this book you’ll understand why.
Wyatt is a superb subtle Hero. He is a rock, a pillar of strength and the author captured him in a fantastic light. He is tortured but has never let that get in his way. His family means everything to him. Since he’s been a kid he has had a soft spot for Sutton. But as teenage boys are they don’t show it the right way.
Sutton Mize a pillar of the community has been following the path that her parents set out for her. The route of least existence until she finds out a betrayal of the two people closest to her. Now somethings just aren’t that sure anymore. I sympathised with her struggles at times but I found her negativity to be annoying and quite frankly I don’t like Sutton she ruined the book for me. Always doing what others wanted her family etc. The perfect daughter until she realises that she hasn’t been leading the life she wants. The push/pull of the relationship was just too exhausting.
Nevertheless, I will continue with the series as I love the Abbott brothers especially Mack, Ford can go to hell for all I care.
The advantage of being related to half the parish means that I have plenty of people to call on if I need help. Of course, the disadvantage is my dating pool is drastically smaller. Unless I aspire to become a redneck joke.
Hyacinth could spout scripture from one side of her mouth while tippling moonshine with the other.
The gossip about her and Wyatt had legs like a Louisiana jackrabbit.
He might not be invited to the governor’s mansion anytime soon, but Hyacinth and Hazel had taken it upon themselves to domesticate them after a fashion. He knew enough not to fart in public or eat with his fingers.
He tensed while the woman’s gaze traveled the length of his body down to his black boots, not in a sexual way but rather like she was sizing him like a female praying mantis before she devoured her mate.
My Review:
Despite this being book number four in the series, Leave The Night On was my first trip to Cottonbloom, and I could kick myself for my lax in awareness. I adored this charming and cleverly amusing story from beginning to end. The main characters were endearing, nuanced, and absolutely adorable as a couple despite their inauspicious beginning. Written from a dual POV, the storyline was engaging, humorous, easy to follow, and well-plotted. The main protagonists were a blue-collar mechanic named Wyatt from the “swamp rat” side of town and a Junior Leaguer Judge’s daughter named Sutton, who happened to have been Wyatt’s childhood crush. The morning she pulled into his garage lead to a comical discovery that was life altering although initially devastating for Sutton. I savored the comfortable and easy flow to the writing style as well as the quirky characters and their colorful phrases. I want to go backward and read all the previous installments as well as every book this talented wordsmith has and will ever produce. Laura Trentham has a new fangirl.
Hot of the press...Released on August 1. LEAVE THE NIGHT ON, the first book I have read by Laura Trentham, is #4 in THE COTTONBLOOM Series and can easily be read as a standalone.
A river divides Cottonbloom in two: the upscale enclave on the Mississippi side and the rundown, rough and tumble side in Louisiana. They are two worlds apart. Can the gap ever be bridged?
The cover is beautiful and the story is about a lovely beautiful young boutique owner from the rich side of the river and how she copes with a shocking discovery of betrayal.
I liked Sutton Mize and had mixed feelings when her betrayal was revealed. Wanting Sutton to know the truth, but not wanting her to be hurt had me cheering for Wyatt Abbott, part owner and mechanic of Abbott Brothers Garage and Restoration. I also liked Wyatt's twin brother, Jackson, their older brother, Mack and their Aunt Hazel and her twin sister, Hyacinth.
Andrew Tarwater, Bree Randall and Ford Abbott were characters I loved to dislike.
I enjoyed reading this romantic story with a twist or two. The similes were very astute. "...it incited annoyance like a swarm of no-see-ums." "It's like talking to a termite-riddled tree stump." "When he entered, she locked eyes with him, and everything inside of her settled down like a cat finding its favorite spot in the sun." "The hurt in her voice was like a foot long paper cut on his heart." "Wyatt looked around, feeling like a freshwater fish dumped in the ocean."
If you are looking for a light read between some heavy reading or enjoy romance books, I recommend LEAVE THE NIGHT ON by Laura Trentham.

One-Sentence Summary: A mutually beneficial fake relationship becomes more
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the original Cottonbloom trilogy so I'm glad that it's being expanded.
This first book in the next trilogy revisits the old class wars and different side of the river prejudices that readers will be familiar with. Sutton is from the posh side of the river with classy parents. She forges a deal with Wyatt the lowly car mechanic in a bid to show her cheating ex-fiance that she's over him. They both end up finding more than they expected in their fake relationship and a happy ever after ensues.
This book was enjoyable but I looking forward to Jackson/Willa's story even more (WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2018?!?!?!).
PS. I really really dislike Ford. At the start I was hoping he was going to turn out to be the black sheep brother with issues who works his way back into the fold and gets his own happy ever after but I really don't see that happening.
I love visiting the quirky small town of Cottonbloom. The town and the people always come alive for me. Leave the Night On was no different. The story was full of love, both the romantic and platonic kind. It was sweet and touching and I loved both MCs right from the get-go.
Quick Summary: Wyatt has always had a crush on Sutton Mize but he’s a small town mechanic and she’s the daughter of a prominent Judge. Their adult lives don’t cross paths until fate throws them together. Saving Sutton is Wyatt’s chance to get to know the girl he thought he never had a chance with.
Sutton always thought Wyatt didn't like her when they were younger, but the Wyatt that comes to her rescue is a man with profound depths she can't resist exploring. It's the wrong time to jump into a relationship so suddenly after her last disaster, but Sutton is done being safe, she's ready to take a wild risk.
The role of forgiving nice girl who never rocked the boat would have to go to her understudy tonight. Not only was she going to rock the boat, she planned to blow the mother-flipping thing to smithereens.
What starts as a business arrangement between them to save face and help Wyatt's family garage turns into something much more complicated. Pretty soon Wyatt and Sutton are knee deep in emotions and the clock is ticking down the minutes to the end of their temporary relationship.
Can Wyatt show Sutton he's ready to settle down, with her? Or will Sutton let her past cloud her chance at a real HEA with Wyatt? Lol, this is Cottonbloom, so although the ending is predictable, the road leading to that sweet ending will have some unexpected twists!
What I loved: Sutton and Wyatt were great MCs. They complimented each other and I loved their easy, almost instinctive trust and emotional pull. Not to say they didn't have enough heat, because they generate some crazy intense heat between the sheets - just saying! Their romance was not without it's bumps but it was worth it in the end.
There are three more Abbott brothers waiting in the wings that will hopefully have their own stories soon! Mack was intriguing, Jackson and Willa - I'm anxious to read ASAP! and Ford, well idk how I feel about him . . . lets just say, he needs to be redeemed but I have faith LT will be able to pull it off!
A few things felt off for me . . . The whole Bree thing, I felt Sutton was way too easy on her, not only because of what she did and with who, but the selfish way she behaved after the fact. I didn't buy into her remorse, she was just a terrible person and I wanted Sutton to break all ties with her. Granted this isn't Sutton's style but still I wanted less Bree time all around.
Something else that stuck out as odd to me because the behavior felt so out of place, was Sutton's reaction to Ford baiting Wyatt at the gala. It was odd because she and Wyatt had always been upfront about their situation. The fact that they had just cleared the water and she was finally ready to take that next step with Wyatt, only to over-react (in my opinion) to Ford's accusations was a bit frustrating for me. TBH I was already a bit miffed with the way she had left things with Wyatt before this, so my frame of mind was not very forgiving when she puts him out of his misery and than soon after, pushes him away. Again.
Lucky for me, the drama was downplayed and not drawn out for drama's sake. It was low angst and except for those few hiccups, I really liked Sutton and loved Wyatt. Can't wait to stop by and visit Cottonbloom again soon with Jackson and Willa's story next!!!
Favorite Line(s): ”You look real pretty in your dresses and heels, but I like you a little messy and wild. Makes me feel like I’m home.”
Wyatt was all color. His energy, his laughter, his impetuousness. She craved color in her life.
Memorable Moments: I fell in love all over again with Wyatt and Sutton with that super sweet ending. The gift exchange was the perfect surprise for the perfect ending.
What do you do when you find out your best friend is having an affair with your fiancé? What do you do if you're born an bred to always do 'the right thing', your daddy's a prominent judge, appearances matter? What do you do when you learn this information standing in front of an extremely sexy man your family and friends may find slightly inappropriate? If you're Sutton Mize you create a diversion, a diversion in the form of steamy Whyatt Abbott. Sutton Mize is standing in an auto restoration shop in front of Whyatt Abbott arranging for her fiancés sports car to be restored as a wedding gift when they find a pair of woman's panties under the car seat that don't belong to Sutton. Immediately she knows they belong to her best friend, a special order from Sutton's high end boutique. Humiliated and betrayed Sutton concocts an affair of her own. Whyatt has harbored a crush on Sutton since they were kids and readily agrees to 'fake date' for a short time to help her save face. Realizing she was anguished more over the loss of a friendship then your fiancé is freeing, and allows Sutton to really break free from her fiancé with no second thoughts. As Sutton moves through anger, grief, manages rumor, innuendo, her own feelings towards Whyatt, we see a young woman who for the first time seems to be considering what she wants, what she needs. It's refreshing to watch. I love that while doing so she also stays true to herself. This makes the story very relatable. On the surface Sutton appears to choose revenge. As you read you realize there's much more to it, it's not that trite, and Sutton has chosen herself. I love a good romance, a hot and steamy one...even better! However, a story that also manages to empower a woman to walk away from an ugly, self serving relationship has me standing up and cheering! Laura Trentham does a wonderful job balancing these at the same time while sacrificing neither. These were characters I cared about, are multidimensional, we understand their motivations. I wanted to keep reading to learn more, and I'm anxious for more books in this series. I thoroughly enjoyed Leave the Light On and highly recommend. Well done! I received an advanced reader copy (eGalley) from St Martin's Press through NetGalley. This review reflects my honest and unbiased opinions.
This is the first book I have read by this author but it certainly will not be the last. While it is the fourth in this series, I think it can definitely stand on its own. This is a great small-town romance reminiscent of Donna Alward. It features Sutton, who rather than admit her fiance was cheating on her with her best friend, instead concocts a story of her own affair with town bad boy, Wyatt. Little does Sutton know, Wyatt has had a crush on Sutton since they were children. This was a very enjoyable read with great characters as this fake romance turns into something so much more.
When Sutton takes her fiancee’s car to Abbott Brothers Garage for a restoration, which would also be a wedding gift. What could have been a nice surprise, turned out as a shock as she discovers lace panties under the seat and she knows exactly to whom they belong. One thing leads to another and Sutton finds herself lying about having somebody else as well and that someone is Wyatt. They agreed to play a couple for a few weeks, but a lot can change during those weeks.
I enjoyed the small-town setting and the romance between the main characters. I’ve read almost all books in the series and will definitely want to read the ones I haven’t gotten around to yet. The writing style, characters and the vibe of the town makes it a great book to read at any time.
Laura Trentham has turned into on of my all-time favorite authors. I just love her books and when I see a new one being published I get all excited. I just can't help myself.
I have to admit this was one of my favorite romances of the year. For some reason the characters and their story really stood out to me. I just loved them and wanted them to find all the happiness they could.
These two really deserved it.
I think you'll really enjoy both Sutton (great name) and Wyatt. They both are truly nice people. You can tell right away that the last thing they'd do is hurt someone. From the beginning I cheered them on!
What started out as a slip of the tongue turned into the talk of the town, two towns in this case! You can't help feeling for Sutton. No one deserves to be betrayed by their best friend, of course I see this as they were really never your best friend or they couldn have done this to you. Plus, would you want to be friends with someone of such lower character? Nope!!
The only (really one) of the good things that came out of this is that she lost the asshole and got a Wyatt!
Oh Wyatt! Love you and your messed up family. I really can't wait for all their stories. I hope the author is listening, from what I could tell there are a ton of Abbott's in this family. I'm in heaven thinking about all the stories I could have.
From page one you won't want to stop reading Leave the Night On. It's full of everything you'd want in a romance. Great characters, love, friendship, humor, you've got it all. Did I mention family conflict and cheating assholes? My bad, you can't forget those things.
I've really enjoyed this new addition to the Cottonbloom series. Do yourselves a favor and read the series in order. It really helps to build the story line that runs through the series. Not to worry, it's the perfect end of summer reading.
Sutton Mize is a good girl who toes the lines, worries about appearances, and always does what's expected of her. Her engagement to a prominent attorney is more of a merger than actual relationship and she's..mostly okay with that. Until she's presented with an incriminating set of panties, belonging to her bestie, under the front seat of her fiancée's Camaro..that she just drove in to Abbott's garage to have restored as a wedding gift. To make matters worse, Wyatt Abbott, the bane of her childhood existence, is there to witness her mortified reaction. Instead of embarrassing her, however, he agrees to her rash plan of a fictional relationship as payback.
Wyatt Abbott is a charming good ole boy. He works as a mechanic with his brothers at their family shop on the Louisiana side of Cottonbloom. He's the peacekeeper in the family, always wears a smile, and is willing to lend a hand when needed. And Sutton Mize needs a big helping hand. He's got no problem playing devoted boyfriend to a woman he's been crushing on since childhood. But Sutton hails from the wealthy Mississippi side of the river and while he's not sure she'll be willing to make their arrangement permanent, he's going to do whatever is necessary to show her he's in it for the long haul.
I loved Wyatt and Sutton's romance! It was an interesting mix of vulnerable and strong, with fun tweaks of humor and sass. Sutton and Wyatt may have started out with a fake relationship, but their feelings escalate beyond the fun and harmless from the start. Their physical chemistry was undeniable, especially after a couple of steamy kisses, however, baring their real feelings to each other was much harder and exposed vulnerabilities neither one was readily willing to admit. When an Abbott family disagreement bursts Wyatt and Sutton's fragile bubble of trust, will she trust Wyatt to color her world or continue living a beige existence?
Wyatt and Sutton's romance was a rocky road of trust, but the journey was the best 4 hours I've spent today! I loved the relationship dynamics between the Abbott siblings, Wyatt and Sutton..even the Mize family had their own quirky nest. New characters are introduced into the series and gettting to check in with the Fournette brothers from earlier books was an additional treat. With a heartwarming blend of small town charm, family, new friends and old, this series has bounced up my radar and reminded me of the joys of living in small town America. Obviously, I'm in love with the Cottonbloom series, considering I devoured the series in one weekend, but it's one I would happily recommend to contemporary romance lovers!
I reviewed an advanced copy of this book for the Bambi Unbridled blog.
Who needs soap operas when the citizens of Cottonbloom are only a bookshelf away. Laura Trentham knows what her readers want. In my case, she reeled me in with her sweet tale of small town living and big city heartache. Leave the Night On gives readers something to talk about with a hint of scandal and a bushel of heart to guide the way. Sutton is my type of heroine. She's not afraid to rock the boat to prove she's nobody's victim. In this case I think she got more than she bargained for. She lost her heart, but gained something much more precious. Her self - respect and a love she never dreamed of. Wyatt and Sutton may be wrong for each other, but nevertheless, they make perfect sense. Sometimes a bad decision can end up leading to the right one.
When Sutton Mize takes her fiancee's cherry-red Camaro convertible to Abbott Brothers Garage and Restoration for a full restoration as a wedding gift she gets a rude shock - her best friend's panties under her fiancee's seat! Cheating on her would be bad enough, but with her best friend? That's devastating! Desperate not to look like a schmuck or a loser Sutton tells a little white lie, that she was also seeing someone else, and then compounds it by naming Wyatt Abbott, the guy who found the panties when clearing out the Camaro.
Wyatt is one of four Abbott brothers (looking at Goodreads this seems to be the fourth book in the series but the first about one of the Abbott brothers and you can definitely read this as a stand-alone) running the garage. The garage is on the Louisiana side of the small town of Cottonbloom whereas Sutton comes from the more affluent Mississippi side and there is an intense rivalry between the two sides of the town. Wyatt has known Sutton since they were at school together but the paths of a grease monkey and the daughter of a judge don't cross that often - until she brings a car to his garage!
I really liked this book. It encompasses several of my favourite tropes: fake relationship; opposites attract; and small-town. Sutton and Wyatt are both 'nice' people, Sutton tries too hard to please people and worries what they think - until she discovers that Andrew was more interested in marrying a Judge's daughter than being with her for herself. Wyatt is the likeable peace-maker of the Abbott brothers, trying to keep the peace between his two elder brothers Ford and Mack and his quiet twin Jackson. But more than that, they are likeable characters, neither of them behaves irrationally or acts unreasonably. maybe they are each a little insecure but in the context of their history it seems appropriate.
Overall, I liked the book, I'm going to go back and read the earlier books and I'm really looking forward to seeing who will be the subject of the next book - will it be Ford, or Mack, or Jackson? I like Ella or Willa for the love interests - but I could be wrong, it could even be Bree.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
3.5 stars Once again a simple straight-forward feel good contemp. The heroine was showed as too good and kind though and willing to forgive a friend who betrayed her like that. I liked the H/h
LEAVE THE NIGHT ON (Cottonbloom: #4) Written by Laura Trentham 2017; St. Martin’s Press Paperbacks (350 Pages) Genre: series, fiction, contemporary, romance, small town
Rating: ★★★ 1/2
We return to Cottonbloom, but this time we meet the Abbott brothers - four brothers running their family business - fixing and restoring cars. Wyatt Abbott, one of the twins, is set to work on Sutton Mize's fiance's car for a big commission for the shop. As he empty's the car's glove compartment he accidentally unleashes heartbreak for Sutton. They find receipts for fancy dinners and a thong underwear that was custom made by Sutton for her best friend, Bree. When Andrew, Sutton's finace, and Bree confront Sutton together she tells them she has been cheating too...with Wyatt. Wyatt, who has always had a thing for Sutton as kids, readily agrees and the two end up falling for each other.
I really liked this one! I found Wyatt so endearing and I could relate to Sutton (like I could with Tally). Even though I knew they were destined for a HEA I was invested in seeing how they would get there. We do see some of the characters from the first three books come through so it is a nice surprise if you have read them before. If not, they just seem like random characters with some importance and they are overly described for the part they play. I recommend this series...and is perfect for the remaining weeks of Summer.
***I received an eARC from the PUBLISHER via NETGALLEY***
Leave the Night On is the 4th book in the Cottonbloom series by Laura Trentham and I am a huge fan of this series! I didn't realize that there was going to be a 4th book after reading the trilogy, so I was very excited to see this book pop up. Which makes it so hard to leave this review.
I wanted to love this book. I really wanted to. I love the author. I love the series. I love the town. I love the hero. But the heroine ruined it for me. While Wyatt, the hero, was sweet and wonderful and a classic romance hero to swoon over, I could not stand Sutton and the way she treated Wyatt. The ruse that makes up the main plotline for this story was her idea, but it became more than that for Wyatt and Sutton kept using and abusing his feelings for her. Knowingly, she kept doing it. I tried to like her because Wyatt loved her so much, but I never saw it. And it ruined the plot for me.
I am giving this book 3 stars for Wyatt and the other characters, but I can't go higher because of Sutton. I am such a fan of this series that I will most definitely come back to read about the other Abbot brothers, but this one just didn't do it for me. So with a heavy heart, I can't recommend this book.
A very good book about two people one Wyatt Abbott who owns a garage along with his four brothers. They live over the river in Louisiana. The other side of the river is Mississippi and that is where Sutton Mize lives and owns a boutique. Her father is a judge and everyone knows the Abbotts and their garage. She also knows Wyatt from school and thinks that he hates her but when it is explained later in the story you can tell it was just a country boy having a crush on a city girl. Who doesn’t likes snakes not all of them are piousness, and they are better than giving her a salamander, which I agree. She didn’t like the snake. Now years later she is bringing her fiancés classic Camaro in for restoration as his wedding present. Wyatt suggests that they go through it before she leaves it and upon looking he finds a women’s undergarments under the seat. Thinking that they were hers he shows them to her but alas they are hers but she knows who’s they are since she ordered them out of her boutique special order her so called best friend. The best friend who is supposed to give her a ride back into town which Wyatt tells her he will take her back. Now the fun begins later that night when her fiancé confronts her thinking he did nothing wrong, but when the other women shows up also, she tells them that she and Wyatt have been seeing each other for some time now as well. Neither of them believe her and later that night she tells Wyatt what she did and could he be her boyfriend for the next few events that are coming where she needs a date. Not knowing that he has been in love with her since they were kids he agrees, even if it means his heart shattering into pieces at the end. Along the way she finds things out about Wyatt and his family, but also she is trying to work things out with herself and yet when he tells her though words “I love you” it is the girl that runs not the guy. Now she must decide what to do before it is too late. A very good story that actually gets better as you go along. Excellent characters, and very good scenes that are both funny and sad at times. Overall a very good book. I got this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
This was my first Laura Trentham read and I can promise you right now that it won't be my last. OMG, I loved this book so much.
Wyatt is a mechanic from the wrong side of the river. He owns a car restoration shop with his three brothers, twin brother- Jackson, the one in charge- Mack, and the outcast- Ford. (Note: I will be standing in line waiting for each of their stories...gah, I loved them all. Yes, even Ford...my heart hurt for him.) Wyatt went to school with Sutton and had a crush on her when she was awkward and geeky, but she never knew that about him.
But Sutton's wedding gift for her fiance is that she's going to restore his classic car. She brings it to Wyatt and they are cleaning it out when they find a pair of panties that don't belong to Sutton. They belong to her best friend. In one moment, Sutton loses the two most important people in her life and Wyatt steps in to help. He's just that kind of guy...definitely amazing hero material.
I loved everything about this story. I loved that Sutton had no idea that Wyatt had a crush on her. I loved that she's a secret amazingly good designer. I loved the setting of the auto shop and the conflict between the brothers. I loved Wyatt and Jackson...I have a thing for twins and the connection they have. I just loved everything about this book. I even loved Sutton's parents who could have so easily been bad guys in this scenario, but they weren't.
The book was good, the romance was fun and sizzling. The storyline is a classic, but I thought the author gave it some unique twists that really kept it interesting.
I can't wait for the stories for the rest of the brothers, and I'm really hoping bff, Bree shows back up again, too.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review, but I did buy a print copy for my keeper shelf for re-reads later.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, pain, betrayal, revenge, and heartbreak.
Before reading this story please read the below books first Kiss Me That Way (Cottonbloom, #1) Then He Kissed Me (Cottonbloom, #2) Till I Kissed You (Cottonbloom, #3) Candy Cane Christmas (Cottonbloom #3.5) Light Up the Night (Cottonbloom #3.75)
This is Sutton and Wyatt‘s story. Sutton is engaged but when she finds a lacy thong in her man’s car that is not hers she knows things are about to change. Since she runs a store that sold that thong she knows just who’s thong it is. Now how is she going to get back at her fiancé and her best friend? Wyatt has had a crush on Sutton for years. He is around when she finds the thong. When she comes up with a crazy plan that she needs Wyatt’s help with. What starts out as revenge turns into a whole lot more than they bargained for. Now what will she do? She was engaged to one man but she is falling for a different one. Could she have been wrong about who she thought was in her future? Is Wyatt the right one for her?
I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Sutton Mize brought her fiance's Camaro to the Abbot's Garage to have it checked, but found an incriminating evidence inside the car - a laced thong that didn't belong to her, but to her best friend. To save face, she told her ex-lover that she'd been dating the hunky mechanic Wyatt Abbott and stirred gossip around Cottonbloom. It wasn't until they realized they were using each other to get what they needed.
This is just the kind of sweet and exciting story I need to read after a stressful day. Wyatt Abbott could be my newest book boyfriend and stress-reliever. Gotta love a man who knows cars and cherish 'em. Although, despite the fact that I've read multitudes of stories about pretend lovers ultimately falling in love in the end, it was their journey on how they realized their feelings for each other that really get me everytime. Sutton and Wyatt are from opposite sides of Mississippi but this didn't hinder them from taking chances on their feelings. Thanks to Sutton's cheating fiance and conniving best friend, she found herself crying in the arms of Wyatt, her childhood friend and apparently a longtime secret admirer.
Wyatt Abbott really got me, hook, line and sinker. I thought he was quite naive in love, despite his reputation as a ladies man. Sutton is a little snob, due to her lavish upbringing. I wasn't quite smitten with her in the beginning but she earned my trust at the end of the book.
Cheers to another great story from the Cottonbloom series by Laura Trentham! Can't wait to read Jackson's story next!
I adore the quaint little town of Cottonbloom that Laura Trentham created and I'm so glad to be returning in this amazing new story. The town may have always been split not only by state lines and the river but also by social status. Times are changing though and sometimes the heart wants what it wants. Sutton Mize may not have spent a lot of time on the Mississippi side of Cottonbloom but after her personal quickly implodes, she can't seem to stay away from Wyatt Abbott. There's just something about the kind and funny auto mechanic that pulls at her heart but what would her friends and family think?? She's about to find out~
A fantastic small town romance that I recommend to everyone!
This was the first book I'd read in this series, and my first Laura Trentham book, but it certainly won't be my last. I'm really looking forward to reading the other books in this series now as this was such an easy-reading enjoyable story.
Sutton and Wyatt both live in Cottonbloom, but Sutton on the rich side of the river and Wyatt on the poorer side of the river, and there has always been a them and us split in the town. Wyatt is one of four brothers who run a mechanic shop that is now moving more toward classic car restoration, and Sutton is the daughter of a judge and owns her own womens boutique.
Sutton brings in her fiancees car to be partly restored as a surprise engagement present, and whilst there clearing it out they find a pair of panties belonging to her 'best friend' who it turns out has been having an affair with her fiancee. Suffice to say the engagement is broken off, and the best friend dumped and, to safe face, Sutton impulsively makes up an affair between herself with Wyatt, which then turns into a pretend relationship as Wyatt helps her out, and of course turns into more as Wyatt has had a crush on Sutton since they were children.
This was a real heart-warming, family, small town story with some really great characters. I can't wait to read the rest of the stories for the other brothers now. Very enjoyable.
