Tate Brothers #1

The Dangerous Billionaire

Rate this book
Money doesn't always change the man in this new standalone romance from Jackie Ashenden.

Navy SEAL Sullivan "Van" Tate has been called home to reluctantly inherit an empire and finds himself facing the most difficult mission of all: love.

"Sinfully sexy."--Opal Carew on Mine to Take

Nothing about Sullivan "Van" Tate is what it seems. A Navy SEAL raised among the New York City elite, Van prefers heart-pounding action over a Wall Street corner office. But when his adoptive father dies and his business rivals move in to overtake his empire, Van must suit up to save the company and protect the one woman most forbidden to him...and the object of Van's most dangerous desires.

Chloe Tate is as ambitious as she is gorgeous. With a newfound independence, Chloe is no longer a prisoner on her father's ranch. But everything changes when losing her father may also mean losing her life. Even with her survival on the line, Chloe can't deny the burning attraction she feels the moment she locks eyes with Van, her rich, rough and ready, foster brother and the new head of her father's company. Tall, dark, and muscled, he's the one man who she has no business being with. But how can she resist a Navy Seal Warrior when he'll do anything to protect her?

Jackie has been writing fiction since she was eleven years old. Mild mannered fantasy/SF/pseudo-literary writer by day, obsessive romance writer by night, she used to balance her writing with the more serious job of librarianship until a chance meeting with another romance writer prompted her to throw off the shackles of her day job and devote herself to the true love of her heart – writing romance. She particularly likes to write dark, emotional stories with alpha heroes who've just got the world to their liking only to have it blown wide apart by their kick-ass heroines.

She lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband, the inimitable Dr Jax, two kids, two cats and some guppies (possibly dead guppies by the time you read this). When she's not torturing alpha males and their stroppy heroines, she can be found drinking chocolate martinis, reading anything she can lay her hands on, posting random crap on her blog, or being forced to go mountain biking with her husband.

I look forward to books by this author and as soon as a I hear about a new one I start reading but I just couldn't get into this one at all. It took me four attempts to get half way and then I skimmed the rest.
Don't get me wrong apart from being repetitive this isn't a bad book it's just that I didn't like either Van or Chloe they were far too whiny and I personally need to like the characters I'm reading about or it just doesn't work.
This was very nearly a DNF but I skimmed to the end and the second half was better than the first but by that point the book had lost me.
Sullivan, Wolf and Lucas were adopted by billionaire Noah Tate, all three of them are Navy Seals but after Noah's death Van as heir is left in charge of Tate Oil and given the additional task of protecting his step sister Chloe who's real father Cesare de Santis was Noah's long time enemy. If you're familiar with this author's work then the de Santis name will be familiar but this time it's the father and not the sons.
Van's not happy at being away from his unit, he's not happy being left in charge of Tate Oil or the takeover problems they're having, he's not happy he's been left in charge of Chloe....the list goes on it's easier to just say "he's not happy" on top of this Chloe is not happy either.
Now I understand why they're both upset and they both have good reasons but it makes for dull reading plus I didn't feel any real chemistry between them either.
While this book didn't work for me I'm intrigued by both Wolf and Lucas and I'm looking forward to their books.

ARC provided by NetGalley and Publisher for an honest review.

I found this very disappoint and not this authors best work.

The billionaire is Sullivan "Van" and he's a Navel Seal. There are three foster brothers (all Navy Seals by the way) and Chloe.

Chloe loves and works on the family Wyoming ranch. But when their father dies, Van is left in charge as well as inheriting the ranch. Chloe is heartbroken and also learns that her life is in danger.Their father had some dangerous enemies and now they believe they might be after Chloe. All three brothers are Navy Seals.

So Chloe is summoned to New York and while there she hopes to convince Van to give the ranch over to her.

Chloe has had a crush on Van for forever and while in New York they have a night of sex. Well Van says that's it and can't happen again. Chloe is seeking love and wants more. Repeat!!!

So I found Chloe to be a brat (sorry, that's the word that kept coming to mind) and a girl with major Daddy issues. And Van was always negative and pushing Chloe away. The bickering was childish and immature. I found neither character had depth and each irritating in their behavior and actions. It was a flat story line and not the authors best work.

I had found this a chore to finish, sadly. Hoping the next book in the series is better.

I am kind of bummed about this one as I really enjoyed this author's other books but this one just isn't keeping my attention. The hero and heroine are WAY too whiny and childish acting.

Sullivan “Van” Tate was adopted and raised by an oil tycoon. Instead of taking over the family business he became a decorated Navy Seal. When his tycoon father dies, Van is instructed to protect his foster sister Chloe.

Chloe wants to know why her father gave Van everything, including the ranch she has been running and living on since birth in Wyoming. She heads to NYC, to confront her adopted brother only to discover there where secrets on top of secrets.

Chloe has always had a crush on Van. Chloe was a decade younger and raised completely separate from Van. Both had a distant and unexplained childhood caused by the secretive tycoon. I did have a hard time with the overall concept coming together with the reveal all hitting you speedy and at the end.

THE DANGEROUS BILLIONAIRE provided a good mystery with a heavy dose of daddy issues on the side. I didn't feel the foster siblings was a relevant issue, especially with Chloe being 25, so I didn't buy into that taboo.

I enjoyed THE DANGEROUS BILLIONAIRE and its intriguing characters that are relatable and likable. Easy, entertaining and leaving me wanting more, Ashenden has a great start to a new series with THE DANGEROUS BILLIONAIRE

I received this ARC copy of The Dangerous Billionaire from St. Martin's Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. The Dangerous Billionaire is set for publication on May 2, 2017.

This book I reviewed had all of the checkmarks I look for in a interesting read; military, money, and hot romance.

There are many parts of the book that I enjoyed but there are some that I just had to shake my head and move past. The author put a lot on the foster sibling relationship issue, but since they're adults and not related in any manner this seemed not much of an issue, to me anyway. Plus Chloe did some not too smart maneuvering on her own placing herself and others in danger.

The other two foster brothers are really not involved too much in the story but they are set up for additional books in the series. With the character development as such, they should be a good read.

Overall I enjoy Jackie's writing. Her development of the characters is usually pretty good and the steam factor is pretty high, especially in this story.

The Dangerous Billionaire offers great flow with some hot and sexy moments to make this a captivating and interesting read. Plus Van is delicious!! This series is one to keep an eye on.

Van carries a heavy burden after a mission he was responsible for turned bad. Having been raised by a father that expected perfection he finds himself in the position of proving that perfection when he is left with the family’s oil business. Add that to his previous failure and he’s a man struggling to do what is right.

Chloe has never left the ranch where she was raised despite the promises her father gave her. Now all she has is the ranch and that has been left to her foster brother Van. Lonely and unwanted, her only hope is that he will relent and deed the property to her if she follows his instructions and travels to New York where he is waiting. Her safety is at issue and Van has been given the job of securing her along with the business.

While this was well written, I found the story itself to have several holes in it as well as the characters to be inconsistent. I wanted to like this couple but their reunion showed them to be rather immature and it was hard to feel any real chemistry between them. The sex is hot and steamy but otherwise I never felt they really had any longing for each other.

We are given both points of view so I was always aware that Van never really wanted to stay with Chloe at least until the very end. Of course there is a reason he is determined to return to the service but even in his thoughts he had no turmoil over that decision.

I’ve read other works by this author and have enjoyed them so I will continue to read her books, I just wish I could have enjoyed this one more.

This book. This. Book. This book and I had an extremely ... tempestuous ... relationship. It's not that I didn't like it. I did. But there is this one little splinter that worked its way into every single thought about this book and it just kept festering and festering and poking and poking until I was so irritated that I couldn't even enjoy the last however many chapters of the darn book.

Let's do the nice stuff first because if I start talking about this splinter, I'll lose my focus and who knows where we'll end up. I liked the story. I really thought it was an interesting idea and for the most part, the plot was pretty flawless. There were quite a few little surprises that knocked me off guard and kept the book entertaining. Except for the splinter that shall not be named. Yet.

I also enjoyed getting to know the Tate brothers ... Van is pretty badass and I don't know how this dude could be topped or even measured up to with the other brothers. He's so stubborn that he could win a gold medal at the Olympics for digging his heels in. Chloe was also a great character - her tenacity was almost endearing. And these two together was just a great romance that kept me wanting more.

But. That pesky splinter. Literally, my biggest issue with this book was one word. SEAL. SEAL!! Dude. If Van could have thrown himself parades each day to announce that he was a Navy SEAL, he probably would. It was over and over and over, ad nauseam (shout-out to my high school Latin teacher - those two years totally came in handy today). It got to the point where I started rolling my eyes every time I saw the word SEAL. Then I started getting mildly irritated. It finally came to a head when I shouted "JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL" and promptly put my Kindle down for two days. Two whole days. Me putting my Kindle down for two days - that is unheard of. But I was pissed! Just say that he's a SEAL a couple of times, then we've got it. The readers will pick up on the fact that he's a SEAL without saying he's a SEAL every time he takes a breath or sneezes or uses his eyes. It was in the book like 40 times. And no, I didn't count that shit ... my Kindle did ... so I'm not that damn crazy. But it ended up being like every 8 pages, Van was talking about being a SEAL or thinking about being a SEAL or dreaming about being a SEAL. Ugh. Over it. Now I'll never be able to listen to Kiss From A Rose ever again. I liked that song. But it's dead to me now. Just like this book. Until I get un-mad at it and I don't know how long that will take. It's really too bad because everything else about this book was almost perfect.

Van Tate and his two brothers grew up in a boys home. Until they were taken in by Oil Billionaire Noah Tate. He raised them into good men, men who were one day supposed to take over the family company. Only now that dad is dead and left everything to Van, he doesn't really want to deal with it. He's not a New York business man. He wants to go back to his life as a Navy SEAL, just like his brothers.
But in a private letter from his dad he reads that he has to man up and be there for the company AND for his little sister Chloe. She's in danger from dad's old friend-turned-enemy.
Chloe.
The girl never really felt like a sister. He's ten years older and he left for boarding school when she was only two. He only remembers the little girl who was so full of smiles for him whenever he came home for the holidays.
And now here's this beautiful, grown woman, who needs his protection but doesn't want it! She only wants to go back home to Wyoming to take care of her horses.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO CHLOE & VAN?
WILL WE GET A HAPPILY EVER AFTER??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT ☺

BUT ....
This book had the potential to be a great, interesting story - just what I like - a sexy romantic suspense. And I kind of liked parts of it. BUT - I just had way too many problems with the book to enjoy it. I almost DNF'd twice.
I prefer books told from the first person POV. I don't HATE others, but I just prefer it. And this one was told in the 3rd. And in the first few pages alone I read the name Van a million times, which bothered me extremely - no idea why. Would not have happened with a first person POV!
But that was only the beginning of my dislike for the book. But I got off to a 'great' start that way. ☺

It's the first time I've read this author. And I hate those moments when you find out that persons from books - or rather, from book #1 in a series, have been in other books before. In this case the sons of the 'bad' guy used to have a series - that's why they were all mentioned a few times. But, that's not really all that bad, it's not necessary for this story, but I still hate it. I need to read all books in the right order! Grrr.

Another thing, the title? Or rather the whole billionaire SEAL thing? Doesn't that sound like the cheapest and oldest grocery store dime romance? Or even a bad porn? When I chose to read the book, I saw the cover, liked it, (especially when I found out that this open-white-shirt scene actually happens!) and I loved that it was about SEALs, the title I could've done without. Or the weird situation Van finds himself in. The being-a-billionaire thing. The stepsister thing. Ok, I kind of hated the idea of the story too. Sorry. I would've loved it more without the step-sibling thing and without the NYC billionaire thing. The story should've happened in Wyoming. NYC was so not fitting for anything in this story.

And now to the worst part of this book. REPETITION!
OMG Jackie! No offense, but did you not send this book to your editor to go over and cut unnecessary stuff out????? Every single fact and thought and event gets repeated numerous times. I almost stopped reading during the first few chapters because it hurt my brain!

So, while this was a nice story, with 3 potentially great SEALs, and a bit of suspense and some sexiness, the writing and editing was horrible. I tried reading all of it, but in the end - or rather - from around the 20% mark on, I mostly only read when people talked to each other.
I'm not sure if I'll read the 2nd book, but I'm kind of interested to see what Lucas and then later Wolf will have to deal with.

I'm sorry I don't have anything better to say - it could totally just be my personal taste - I know I'm weird with many things about books, but I'm always honest in my reviews, so ... sorry. But this one wasn't my kind of SEAL book :/

THE DANGEROUS BILLIONAIRE was pretty adorable & sexy & suspensy romance! There was room for more ... but I don't want to stop you from enjoying it - try it - run to your nearest amazon for your own Van!!

The dedication at the beginning of Jackie Ashenden’s new Tate Brothers series starter, The Dangerous Billionaire reads:

To the person who picked this up and thought: “Billionaire Navy SEAL? HELL YEAH.” You’re my people.

Personally, I love a good billionaire romance, and novels with military heroes are always on my to-read list, so combining the two definitely works for me. However, there are those who’ll read this and think another billionaire? Another navy SEAL hero? Aren’t we done with these romance trends yet? To you I say, never mind about that, it’s a Jackie Ashenden title! This means you’re in for a sexy treat with a bit of suspense and drama thrown into the mix, regardless of the characters involved. Plus, it takes on a forbidden romance theme. The result is an entertaining and steamy read that introduces the three Tate brothers and delivers a satisfying romance.

Noah Tate, Montana oil tycoon has died. He’d never had children of his own but had fostered three orphaned boys; Van (short for Sullivan), Lucas and Wolf. At eighteen, all three were shipped off to the military and are now active Navy SEALs, but have taken leave to consign their father’s ashes to the East River in New York City as requested in his will. The will has given Noah’s fortune and Tate Oil (headquartered in NYC) to Van and a seat on the board of directors to each of the three men. None of them are happy at the prospect of having to leave military life. Each son has also been given a letter, contents unknown. Van’s letter has to do with their younger foster sister Chloe.

Chloe Tate has been coping with the death of her foster father by throwing herself into her work at their family ranch in Montana until she’s summoned by Van to New York. Expecting the ranch – a place she’s expended blood, sweat and tears on over the last decade – to be left to her, she’s stunned to discover that Van has been received everything. Van, who hasn’t stepped foot on the ranch in eight years since Chloe was seventeen. Van who, ten years Chloe’s senior, was someone she’d looked up to, someone who’d paid attention to her as a child, unlike her cold and distant foster father. Van, whom Chloe had developed a crush on as an older teenager only to have him disappear for years. Her memories of Van don’t prepare her for the hard, dangerous man that he has become, or for the adult sexual attraction that flares to life between them. Van has been charged with keeping Chloe safe as family secrets and a plot of revenge threaten them both. Will he be able to keep her at arm’s length while protecting her, or will they both succumb to temptation? After all, forbidden fruit always tastes the sweetest…

So how forbidden is this fruit anyway? Well, to be honest, I don’t think it’s as big a deal as Van makes it out to be. For the first half or so of the story, he really gets hung up on the idea that it’s wrong for him to be attracted to Chloe. It’s natural for him to think this, as he’s the elder by ten years, and his memories of Chloe are from when she was much younger. But it’s clear that there was nothing inappropriate in any of their interactions when they were younger, and they don’t share the same biological parents so they aren’t siblings. Part of Van’s conflicted feelings for Chloe stem from an incident that happened in his military career where he was unable to successfully complete a mission that involved a young woman. It’s colored his relationships since then, and when Chloe appears to be in danger from an unexpected source, he worries that he won’t be able to protect her – and that includes protecting her from him and his desires, too.

Chloe comes off as somewhat intimidated and hesitant at first, having just lost her father, lost her ranch, and been summoned to New York to be under Van’s protection while he deals with threats that are shocking and unsuspected. I liked how her character gets bolder and more determined as the story progresses, standing up to Van and his alpha male protective ways when needed. Chloe isn’t a virgin, but she’s not overly experienced. When she makes the first move on Van, he’s quick to take control of the situation and the result is a super steamy sex scene, but one they both agree is a one-time thing. Of course, that doesn’t last long and things get hot and heavy time and again, even as outside forces are closing in on them.

There are some great scenes between the three brothers that reveal details of their individual characters as well as the complicated relationships they have with each other. Plus, we never find out what’s in the notes given to Lucas and Wolf, a tease to make sure readers want to pick up the next two books in the series. There’s a little bit of everything in The Dangerous Billionaire – drama, suspense, action, sex, and a hefty dose of romance as Van realizes just how deep his feelings for Chloe are, and vice versa. If you’ve read Jackie Ashenden before, you’ll be satisfied with how this story plays out. If you’re new to the author, this is as good a place as any to start.

Book Review For: The Dangerous Billionaire by Jackie Ashenden 3-5 stars'The Dangerous Billionaire' by Jackie Ashenden is book One in the "Tate Brothers" series. This is the story of Sullivan “Van" and Chloe. Van has been left in charge of the family and the family business. Chole, Van, and two other brothers were the foster child of Noah Tate. Noah Tate is down dead leaving most everything to Van. Chole who ran the family ranch is somewhat upset that her foster father didn't leave the ranch to her. When she is summons by Van to come to NYC she goes to try to convince him to leave her the ranch. Van and his brothers are Navy Seals who have no desire to be businessmen but they have a great sense of honor to their foster father Noah. So they settle in to do as their foster father asked. Van feels that Chole is possible in danger and he plans to keep her safe. Our story begins when Sullivan “Van” Tate and his foster sister Chloe Tate are forced to see each other after their tycoon foster dad dies. Chloe is almost a decade younger than Van and has always admired him, even though they did not grow up together. Van’s father tells him before he dies to take of Chloe and he wants to take the job seriously without giving in to his deepest desires.

The drama and daddy issues were a bit too much for me in this novel. I thought the characters acted a bit childish at times and the whole “foster-sibling” relationship was focused on too much (I don’t even think its taboo, especially when they weren’t raised together) but the pace of the story was well done and the racy scenes were picante!

Overall it wasn’t my favourite novel by Jackie Ashenden but I still enjoy her writing and the other characters in this series seem to have interesting stories so I will probably read on!

Sullivan or 'Van' is one intense man, "he gritted his teeth. Great, an argument about food was exactly what he needed right now— not. “Because I’m a gracious effing host, that’s why.” Van is very protective, “you know what else is mine?” he went on in that steady voice, his thumbs stroking the backs of her hands over and over. “You are, Chloe. You and the company are both mine and I’m not handing either of you over to anyone ever again.” I loved this book, Van was protective and possessive.

This book was ok. I'm a fan of this author and have enjoyed everything I've read from her but this one was a bit disjointed. You've got to suspend belief with this plot, which I can normally do but their seemed to be too many things that didn't add up for me. On top of that, I didn't like Van. The Hero's are what draw me, personally, to a book. I never felt his connection to Chloe. It really bothered me that Van and his brothers didn't visit Chloe for 8 years. They are foster siblings but grew up together. Pretty much everyone abandoned Chloe and I couldn't seem to get past that. It was a fast paced storyline and the brothers stories have potential, but I wish they were more eager to help Chloe since she was in danger. Hopefully that will get answered in their book. This is the first in a new series featuring the Tate brothers. You may recognize some of the characters from her previous series concerning the DeSantis family. In fact, in this book the Tate and the DeSantis family are bitter rivals (with good reason). I wanted to like this book more than I did simply because I enjoyed the previous two books from Jackie Ashenden. However, at times I just felt like both Van and Chloe were too whiny. And a SEAL should never be whiny. Eventually Van did step up but it just seemed that the story lagged until he did.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

When the Tate brothers father dies unexpectedly, they all meet in NY where his large oil business was based. All three brothers are Navy SEALs. Sullivan "Van" is the oldest and so blinking dominant that despite his brothers warnings that he is not their CO, he runs right over them. After the reading of the will which Tate leaves everything to Van, each son also receives a letter. Van's is special. Because they have a foster sister back home in Wyoming who is running the ranch and Van is in charge of keeping her safe. Because of her fathers rather shifty dealings which come to light more clearly throughout the story, he fears for her safety. With good reason. And only Van knows why. Chloe is summoned to NY City, angry and upset at not only being summoned but he's taking her away from the ranch and her projects she's got going on. Chloe was left nothing in the will.
To say the father was less that any semblance of a father to these three men is an understatement. Along with his lies and deceit to both them and Chloe, Chloe comes to never expect anything from anyone. A lesson hard learned vis her father's neglect. Her only bright spot growing up is Van.
Van taught her how to ride. The boys were shipped off the boarding school while she remained at home, but when they'd come home, there would be Chloe waiting. Always making him happy to see her. Until 8 years ago when he stopped coming home. With no explanation and not a word.
This story is a romantic suspense one that had a few crazy twists in it. The story really focuses on Van and Chloe and their past and present. It's a great read. Van was really hard to like much of the time. Chloe I really liked. Van had good qualities don't get me wrong, he just didn't know how to put it all out there. There's plenty of steam in this book too and these two burn it up. It's well done and not over the top. Great read as always Jackie!! I look forward to the next brother's book, hopefully Lucas.

The synopsis of this book reads like something I special ordered for myself. A NAVY SEAL who prefers combat to the treacherous terrain of a boardroom, the country girl determined to fight for what she wants in enemy territory and all that blistering passion between them? Heck, yes! Wealth, danger and passion? Just what the doctor ordered.

With their foster father's death, the Tate brothers have to step up and take on the empire he left behind, much to their chagrin. All military men, they prefer to be in the thick of battle than to cool their heels in an office, but their responsibilities to the Tate empire are ironclad.

First up is Van. He always knew he was being groomed to be the heir to everything but his father's will revealed one more task: to keep his foster sister Chloe safe. The best way to do so is to keep her with him and he's not willing to entertain her reservations. But Chloe is all grown up and very gorgeous, knocking him off his game in a big way.

Chloe has worked all her life to earn the right to her father's ranch but to her surprise, he left everything to her foster brother in his will. Chloe is determined to brave the city to get what she worked for. But the Van she meets is a different man from the one she grew up crushing on. Van has become even more attractive and hardened by his experiences, but the chemistry between them is still there and growing by the minute.

Their father's death has opened up a can of secrets, danger and betrayals and could destroy them if not handed carefully but Van and Chloe can't seem to get on the same page. Chloe discounts the threat to her, to her detriment and Van is consumed by his guilt over not being the perfect son his father wanted, putting both of them at risk.

One thing Ms. Ashenden knows how do in spades is write sizzling hot chemistry between her characters, with enough heat to melt your e-reader and Van and Chloe had it! In my opinion, Chloe could have made better choices if Van hadn't treated her like a child who didn't know what was good for her and Van needed to loosen up a little bit. But the heat between them? Totally made up for the stupid decisions they made:)

I had a few reservations about some reservations about the characters and some bits of the story, but for the most part I enjoyed it. I would have loved more interaction between the brothers, but I have that to look forward to in the next book. THE DANGEROUS BILLIONAIRE is an exciting start to the series and I'm looking forward to the rest of it.

A navy SEAL turned corporate shark, Sullivan is in over his head. Sullivan aka Van, is a man who wants to protect the innocent and defend those who can not defend themselves. This is the reason why he left his father's world of corporate movers and shakers. He no longer wants the heir apparent role to run his father's large conglomerate. He does not seek his father's approval that will never materialize. Now that his father is dead, the chance for his father's approval is zilch.

The conflicts story in this story are messy and emotional. At the heart of it, a selfish man messes up his three adopted sons and his daughter. His death only makes matters more complicated and it seems as if the apology from the grave is more a backhanded compliment rather than a sincere regret. Van's father is a jerk. The way he treated his kids shows a man focused on money and his legacy rather than shared memories with children who idolized him. Neglect is a form of abuse. It may not show on the outside, but it certainly hurts on the inside. This is never more evident than in Van's sister, Chloe.

Chloe is the flesh and blood of Van's adoptive father and she's experienced more disappointment and broken promises from their father. His callous exclusion of her from his attention and affection is painful to learn about. After the death of her father, the truth comes out and it all becomes clear. The shocking news about her past makes her question everything. Who does she trust and is she really wanted?

I liked Chloe and I felt bad for her. She is dealt a raw deal and the men in her life are arrogant domineering jerks. Van may not be a complete jerk, but he is certainly domineering. I didn't like Van. I felt for his situation and understood why he does what he does. I just didn't like how he treated Chloe and I don't think he is right for her. His actions do not really match up with his declarations. His pushy agendas and willful ignorance of Chloe's dreams and hopes bothers me. The sex between them is lackluster for me because it feels like it is just Van scratching an itch, finally tasting his forbidden fruit. Chloe's heart will be broken by this man whose dreams and plans are nowhere near hers. This is why the book is just okay for me. I did not believe in the chemistry between the two and I do not like Van.

Van may have used his "alpha" personality to do a bit of dominating in the bedroom. I would say this worked only because Chloe is a young 25 year old with close to zero experience in the bedroom. Van's quite experienced so it is an unfair advantage for him. Fortunately he is not a selfish lover and works to pleasure Chloe.

The story pace moves in a nice even canter. The subplots help move the story along. There are a couple of set ups for future books as Van's two brothers received letters post death from their father too. The details are not revealed but it is clear the brothers do not like what they read. The issue left for Van to solve places him in a pickle and only hurts Chloe. Which ones again makes me feel badly for Chloe. She is constantly getting the short end of the stick. Overall this is a rough romance between an alpha male and an independent female. The ending is a bit of a hook to the next book in the series.

Well, wasn't that fun.

Let's just be real. You are here because of the story, the blurb is intriguing...but, the reasons you looked in the first place are the cover (because, hello) and the billionaire SEAL because, well, it's a BILLIONAIRE. SEAL.

If that isn't one of the things that got you here, turn right back around because this book is exactly what you expect. It's hot, he's rich, he's super alpha, capable of leaping buildings in a single bound (wait, he was going down the building, but nevermind that detail, the meaning is there) and really into his woman. Although, it does take him a bit to admit that to himself.

Van and Chloe are great for one another. I loved the slightly forbidden aspect of them being pseudo siblings as he is her foster brother, but really, the connection is far enough removed that no one, but Van when he is trying to protect her, is going to care all that much.

You get what you are expecting with this book, a fun, hot sexy ride with a couple of characters you enjoy and who steam up the pages with their sexy times. This is not my first book by this author, but it is definitely one of my favorites. I am looking forward to the rest of the books in the series, because, well...Billionaire. Seals.

Enough said.

Ms. Ashenden always leaving you wanting more, and this book is no different. First we me the DeSantis brothers and now we get to meet the rival family, the Tate brothers, all of whom are SEALS. And Chloe.

After Noah Tate has died the boys come together to spread his ashes in NY and then each are given an individual letter. Van's is to protect Chloe because DeSantis is coming after her.

He reluctantly accepts all of what has been asked of him but goes about it his own way.

Chloe is pissed. Everything was left to Van including the ranch she was promised and come hell or highwater she is going to get what belongs to her. But she doesn't count on all the secrets she is going find out though.

Secrets, lies and revelations. This book is full of them!

When I first picked up this book the beginning reminded me of another story I had read by a different author, where the adoptive father had passed away and left each of his three adoptive sons a letter along with his last will and testament, and that was the end of any similarities. This story had to totally different feel to it and I was hooked. This was a great beginning to a new series by Jackie Ashenden and I cannot wait to read Lucas' story which will be out later this year.

The Dangerous Billionaire is the first of a new series, an offshoot of Jackie Ashenden's de Santis Brothers series (ie: The Billionaire's Virgin). Unfortunately, it lacked the same punch that series offers, but it's not bad. It's got the same type of theme: billionaire bad boy, younger, less experienced heroine. Sullivan "Van" Tate and his two foster brothers, Wolfe and Lucas have just lost their father, Noah Tate, billionaire owner of Tate Oil. All three are Navy SEALs who would prefer they were back with their units rather than being in New York dealing with their father's company and his estate. Each has received a letter from their father, but none of them are sharing with the others what their letters said. Van's letter tells him to protect their younger sister, their stepsister actually, because she's actually Cesar de Santis' biological daughter, and now that Noah is dead, Chloe is in extreme danger from Cesar.

When Van and Chloe see each other again after eight years, she's not the same young girl he remembers. She's not happy to see him, for one, she's not smiling, and she's beautiful, a grown woman. Van wasn't expecting to be attracted to her, but he is, even if it's an unwanted attraction. As the two fall into a physical relationship, it's apparent that Van can't offer Chloe anything but sex and protection. He may care about her, but he isn't willing to give her what she wants: love, real love. Their chemistry is kind of steamy, but it felt as if it were all they had going for them. I never felt their bond to be very strong, and the back and forth that Van put Chloe through was really annoying. I felt sorry for her, he was so hot and cold, and he played with her poor heart, a lot. Not purposely, but still, he was cold with her when he should have been more understanding. Not only that, but he should have kept his cock in his pants, because it was obvious Chloe had feelings for him that he simply couldn't reciprocate, or at least not admit that he reciprocated. I don't like Van, but I can't say that Chloe is that great, either. She's a little immature and whiny. She didn't act 25, more like 18, and not a very mature 18. All in all, neither of them is that likable, and I never believed their feelings were anything other than lust and perhaps a little hero worship on Chloe's part.

I am interested enough in this new series to want to read Lucas' story, though, so here's hoping it's better than The Dangerous Billionaire.

#1 in the Tate Brothers romance series

I haven't read an Ashenden romance in a while, and this was a good start to a new-to-me series from her. We meet Sullivan Tate--oldest brother of the recently deceased Noah Tate, owner of the Tate Oil fortune. There's a complicated family relationship since Noah adopted 3 sons from a foster home years ago, and they have grown up together but apart. They are all in the military, all strong yet independent, but there's still a family bond beneath the surface. Van is a Navy SEAL and wants nothing more than to return to his command. But along with the will, Van has been tasked by his dead father to take care of his foster sister, Chloe, and keep her from danger from Noah's sworn enemy. Chloe, though, is taking exception to his "protection" and wants nothing to do with it. The immediate chemistry between them is hot and adds another layer of complication to a possible relationship between them. There's some dangerous action to keep the story moving forward, and there's plenty of action between the sheets as well. The book kept my interest, and I look forward to learning more about Lucas and Wolf, the other two brothers.

I have been a fan of this authors other works so when I was offered the chance to read the first in a new series I was excited because I seem to always start her series two or three books in. I was really looking forward to reading The Dangerous Billionaire but no matter how hard I tried I could not get into this book. I had to force myself to finish. For me, the book started out slow, which normally wouldn't be a problem if I liked the characters and was rooting for their story. That was not the case here. I felt that Van and Chloe we flat characters. It seemed like all either one of them did was complain - which was became quite annoying. It was also unrealistic given that Van was this big bad alpha who was former military. Also, there was a lot made of the foster sibling relationship being a taboo but I didn't really feel that because the circumstances didn't support the story line.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley.

3.5 stars! I'm on the fence on this one. Terrific writing, interesting characters and an entertaining plot. Here's my but.. It was pretty repetitive and slow moving, the conflict was dull and unconvincing. The "billionaire lifestyle" that we all fantasize about was lacking major. I understand that the characters are both, not materialistic, but it was still not what I was expecting, especially, when the word billionaire is in the title.
I wish the the Tate brothers were more in the first installment and I hate that we don't get to read their individual letters (that is all I'm gonna say). Even though this was not my favorite, I will read on to the next installment because I already bought it. I will leave you with this: WE WANT WOLF. Which I'm guessing will be the third installment, since Luc is next. So, it looks like I will sticking with it.
Happy reading.

I'm somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars. I really liked the premise of the book and the chemistry between Van and Chloe was there, it just was a little inconsistent for me. Van was so determined to not feel anything for Chloe and at the same time, he wanted to keep her safe. I liked how dominant Van as with her, it was H.O.T.

The last 25% drug a little for me but I did really enjoy this book and I'm definitely going to read the rest of the series.

This book is about Navy SEAL Billionaires. Did I mention Van is a Navy SEAL? Because he is and he will remind you of that just about every chapter. And Chloe has had a crush on Van since she was 16, because she has. Yes, it was a bit repetitive and kind of dull. I didn't find the attraction between Van and Chloe convincing. I DNF'd it at about 50%.

WHY DIDN'T I READ THIS SOONER!!!! It was soooo good and dang Van is surely an alpha dirty talker! I loved the beginning how we get a glimpse of the other brothers moods and in which their stories will follow.
