Time flies when you’re reading a good book.

I don’t know about a lot of other reviewers or even readers in general for that matter, but I can sometimes find a long book somewhat intimidating. Now Blaze wasn’t an overly long book but it wasn’t a short story either. There are always deadlines to meet, time constraints because of life and family commitments and even your mindframe at the time can make or break whether a book seems too long. Not sure if this has happened to other readers but it’s happened to me more than once. I started reading Blaze and six hours later (slight exaggeration) I looked down at the bottom of my Kindle and realised I’m only at 16%. What? How can that be? So, I batten down the hatches and get serious. Then, 10 minutes later (slight exaggeration) I’m at 82%. HUH? How did that happen? Which leaves me trying to slow down because it’s going too fast.

I don’t know about you, but this happens to me a lot more frequently when I’m reading a good paranormal romance. It’s the mating attraction, with growly Alpha males and unsuspecting heroines, mixed with action, suspense and forces beyond our wildest dreams. You get the buzz from seeing the good guys battle it out with the bad guys. We get to see mates/families/clans having each other’s backs and fighting alongside them to see that good overcomes evil. There’s this feeling of doom, just around the corner, that you’re waiting to arrive. Will they have their magic sword at hand when the evil forces attack? Can their magic fight the other magic or will a new spell conquer them all?

These are the feeling I have come to love experiencing while reading a Donna Grant paranormal romance. While Blaze, may seem to be a little long in the start and may even drag while we do the meet and greet, it doesn’t take long to get into the swing of things.

I really enjoyed seeing Devon and Anson’s love story take shape. There was an attraction between them from the start, but you could almost call this one a slowburn…well for a paranormal it was slow..ish. I mean, they didn’t jump each other after 5 minutes of knowing each other, it was more like 10 minutes. In the paranormal worlds, I’ve met, that’s considered a long courtship.

Anyways, I don’t know about any other Dark Kings fans, but geez the Con and Rhi saga is KILLING ME!! Crikey, Ms Grant, I’ve only read the last couple of books in this series, but I feel for other readers who’ve read all of them. It’s killing me seeing these two apart when they’re obviously meant for each other. It will devastate me if these two don’t make it to the end…OR…heaven forbid…ended up with someone else???

Now, I’m the perfect example of someone who can come late to the party but still enjoy it. I only started reading the Dark Kings series at #9 and while there were some initial teething problems, I soon settled in. I think Donna Grant successfully manages to help regular readers "remember” and new readers “catch up” on what happened previously. I liked the friendly reminder and it helped me follow along better.

So, Blaze was a success for me and I will definitely be back for more. I got to know a few more of the Druids and Warriors when they stepped in to lend a helping hand. And, Now, it looks like I have to add the Dark Swords to my unending list of books/series to be read. Time…if I only had time…only time…

BLAZE is book eleven in the Dark Kings series. I can’t believe how many books are already out in this series. Somehow, Grant has managed to keep this series feeling fresh and interesting and I especially think she did a good job with this book.

I’ve always said Grant’s heroes are especially delicious in this series and Anson is no exception. As a fierce Dragon King, he is everything that you want in a hero. And yet, this unstoppable man requires the assistance of a human female named Devon Abrams.

Devon had no idea that her work life is steeped in the magical world of Fae. Out of the entire series so far, I think Devon might actually be one of my top favorites. To me, she was the most unique and the most independent. I loved that she is so career-oriented but still had that balance of personality to her. The blog aspect was really cool to read and I thought it added a fresh touch to the series while giving Devon’s character a lot more spunk and personality. There aren’t many heroines who think like Devon does so I found her especially refreshing to read about. I actually think the main reason why I enjoyed this book so much was because of her. So kudos to Grant for creating such a unique and fun character.

Of course, there’s plenty of worldbuilding and progress made in this book. If you’re a fan of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series then you will probably enjoy this one as well. They have the same level of worldbuilding and frequent cameos from other characters in the series, so that being said, I would highly suggest reading this series in order.

BLAZE totally exceeded my expectations and I definitely think the Dark Kings series is one of the best Paranormal Romance series out there right now.

I really enjoy Grants storytelling but think I would absolutely love it if it was written in first person. I'm invested in the characters but I know 3rd person just takes that additional closeness away.

When you crack a Donna Grant novel, you know you're in for a treat. BLAZE brings us back into the world of the Dark Kings with a situation critical already brewing, electrifying chemistry and action intense suspense that grabs the reader and keeps them hooked till the end.

I received this ARC copy of Blaze from St. Martin's Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. Blaze is set for publication May 30, 2017.

Anson and Devon are another great Dragon King couple. Her situation and the way out of it are again completely different from the previous couples. Plus add in seeing the previous couples, plus the Dark Warriors coming to help. Rhi is getting back in my good graces again. Why can Con not put on his big boy pants and just kill Ulrick already?

Book Review For: 'Blaze' by Donna Grant 'Blaze' by Donna Grant is book 11 in the "Dark Kings" series. This is the story of Anson and Devon. I have been jumping in and out of this series so for me this was a standalone book. Anson is a Dragon King shapeshifter who is trying to get the jump on a company called Kyvor with a hacker that tried to break into their company. To do so they need to get Devon on their side to get the secrets of that company...and to help bring it down. Anson and his crew start slowly at first trying to bring doubt into Anson business world. Devon is on the fast track at Kyvor but is unaware of what some of the things that company does. Anson is opening her eyes to allot of things that have been going on. Anson isn't to excited with humans, but he is finding Devon who is a human hard to resist. Devon who loved to be in a relationship but hasn't found a man yet that isn't imitated by her and her job. Will Anson be the man/Dragon for her?Ms. Grant writes so exceptional stores that take you into a very exciting 'world'. This book was another hard to put down story...loved it. My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover is what attracted me to this book!

This is my first time reading Donna Grant, and I definitely want more! This is the 11th book in the series, and now I want to read the rest of the series! The book is for adults only due to the steamy content. You can definitely understand what is going on having not read the rest of the series, but I bet it would be a whole lot better having read all of the books in order because then you would have all the background that is mentioned and know the characters better.

Anson would definitely stand-offish in the beginning, and I really wondered if he cared at all about humans. Anson definitely warmed up, and you understood him more and more as the story unfolded. Devon is driven and works hard toward her goals. She has a back story that made me cry, and she has come back stronger. I’m not sure what to think of Con or Ulrik at this point and would love to read more of this series to see.

I highly recommend to any paranormal fan because you have a little of everything with dragon shifters, fae, druids, magic, treachery, and mates with a uniquely fantastic story!

Anson (Dragon King) & Devon's (Human) story:

This is a continued plot line with Anson and Devon as the main focus. Devon works for Kyvor, the company that targeted Kinsey (previous book in series). Kinsey, Esther and Anson are focusing on Devon hoping to convince Devon that Kyvor is not the company she thinks it is and to spy on them for information. What they find out is that Kyvor has targeted Devon like they did Kinsey. Anson wasn't expecting to fall for Devon and now wants her out of danger.

This series is kind of complex with the many characters and different species and figuring out who they are working with or against. It's a very creative story and plot line and I love how the author has worked in the characters from her Reapers series into this plot.

The timeline of this book was working almost side by side to the timeline of the previous book that was focused on Demetri and Faith.

I love that this focuses on Dragon shifters since there are not many quality books out there that does. It's a fun series and I'm looking forward to continuing with it to see how it all ends.

Overall Series Review: Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Mates for life, protective alphas and many foe. Main characters are the dragon kings along with Dark and Light Fae, Driuds, Reapers and humans. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book.

The timeline in Blaze overlaps some with Paris and Dmitri's stories so Anson really does not know what has happened with those two and their mates. We are in London with Anson, Esther and Kenzi investigating Kyvor. The company that somehow has a Druid that messed with Esther and Kenzi's minds. They also totally invaded Kenzi's life and privacy in trying to capture Ryder.

A lot of pieces are starting to come together in Blaze. The possibility that all may not be Ulrick's doing, and that there is someone that is impersonating him starts to enter the equation for the Kings. Things are not going according to anyone's plans anymore since Mikkel has discovered Ulrick's secret and in turn Ulrick learns of Mikkel's Druid. The odds are starting to look kind of scary as to just what Mikkel is going to be able to do to Ulrick. This Druid is scary as the Druids of MacCloud Castle will attest. She has powers that are unheard of.

Devon is a great, independent woman. Loving her job and dabbling in the dating world. She reads a hilarious dating blog that even shows up at the end of the book so I'm kind of curious as to who is actually behind the blog. It may have nothing to do with the Kings and their world, but she sounds like quite the character and I think she'd fit in nicely with the family at Draegan!

Devon doesn't believe in the magic at first but quickly gets introduced and is forced to accept that the man she is interested in is a dragon. It takes her some thinking, but she gets so overwhelmed by all the other magic, she is can't help but just deal and finds that she actually has fallen in love with Anson, even in his brown dragon form.

Anson is sick to death of the no-fly rule and hiding from the humans. I felt like he was dangerous to have out since he didn't really want to to try too hard to hide his true form. Even in front of humans. When he is trapped his choices are limited and even though he is falling into Kyvor's plans, he shifts. Much to Kyvor's delight. But, Kyvor is acting on assurances of protection from Mikkel and the Druid. He doesn't seem to be the most confident CEO at times.

I was really scared that Devon was going to get the same forced treatment from the Dark that Denae received. The Dark Fae really creep me out and their powers of seduction and death are just wrong. Even if the woman does not understand what is happening to her, it just really freaks me out. Devon needed protection from them at all costs.

Bringing in this Druid to the story is adding another enemy and more danger to this war. Blaze seemed to build up more towards the final war than the previous books but we are left with a LOT of questions. We still have the wooden horse. Mikkel and Ulrick as well as Tareath and Balladin also have issues to be resolved. The web is getting tighter and every little bit of information may be a tipping point to all the tension that is hanging in the air. Explosions are a hair trigger away and battles are coming sooner rather than later.

I'm so wrapped into this series now. I'm dying to know what is going to happen to all these threads we have open. OH and we seem to be getting SO close to knowing who Rhi's King is! I thought for sure that nugget was going to be outted, only to be disappointed. So close! This is why I love this world. Not only do we have the main couple of the book, but there are so many threads building that I feel pulled completely pulled into the story trying to puzzle out what the next moves on the board will be.

Blaze did not disappoint and I'm thrilled with how intricate this overall war arc has become. Some things tying together while others are keeping me guessing. I love that Con got caught up on mating ceremonies in this book as I fear the mates are going to need their immortality soon. Con's attitude towards the mates has improved greatly and he has finally accepted that the Kings need their mates. They have all become family and Con is enjoying the feeling of them all together as well. It's nice that the Kings don't have to worry about his disapproval. Not that they really cared once they found their mates!

We still have a few mates that are flying solo, and I'm not sure if we are going to see them mate before hell breaks loose on the Kings. We do have relationship issues that need addressed and I hope they resolve peacefully. So much is happening, I'm dying for the next book to be released already! This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

Loved it! So much happens in this book I found myself book marking and highlighting like a crazy person so me and some friends can theorize about what we think will happen next!! So much is changing for our beloved Dragon Kings and I am excited to be on this journey with them!
I have been with this series from the beginning and devoured every word!
I think it's fantastic that we get to see the Warriors and the Druid's of McCloud Castle! I was sad to see that series end, but was happy to start the journey with The Dragon Kings! I love getting to see some inserts into the lives they have made and their willingness to still fight the good fight even if it's not their own!
Devon is a successful business woman and has worked hard to get to her position at Kyvor. She loves her job. She is a workaholic and takes pride in her work. The only thing that would make her life more complete is a man who is not intimidated by her success. When she meets Anson she finds that and so much more. He opens her eyes about Kyvor and a lot of other things she finds hard to believe. Now she has a new mission to uncover the truth about the company she has devoted her life too. The deadly secrets that she was unknowingly apart off make her sick but she is determined to help Anson and all those at Dreagan.
Anson never thought he'd take a mate especially with them fighting battles from all sides, but Devon has changed everything. Whether either of them wants to admit it or not. She is his, he is hers, and he will do anything to protect her. Anything! Their bond is unlike any other and together they are in for the fight of their lives.
I'm not kidding this book is a doozie!
You will not want to put it down for a minute!

Three and a half
Well I admit I almost gave up on this series but I'm really glad I've persevered. We all know that Ulrik is still out there plotting his revenge on Con the King of Kings and he's managed to involve the Dark Fae but they are slippery creatures whose alliances can change faster than the wind. However he's not the only one with plans in motion and that's were this book comes to life.
Devon is determined to rise to the top and her ambition has taken her pretty far up the ranks at Kyvor but she has no idea that the company she works for has a habit of removing any and all who oppose them. Well that is until she starts receiving cryptic messages and then meets Anson who is Devons idea of the perfect man except unknown to her he really isn't a man at all! Devon may be a workaholic but she's no simpleton and when she starts trying to delve deeper she gets caught up in a world of magic and obsession . Anson needs to discover who is pulling the strings behind Kyvor and stop their interference in the lives the Dragon Kings have so carefully cultivated but he never expected to feel so protective of one human woman. A woman who turns out to be far more important than the Dragon Kings realised !
Ok this story has the two lead characters happily enjoying their sizzling chemistry and to this reader it felt a little too immediate but then they have both been lonely so ok let happy times commence! This author always writes scorching romances but it's her constantly evolving work that keeps me entertained. I've enjoyed the way her Reaper series connects with these stories but now there's signs of her Dark Warriors and Dark Sword characters also being added to the mixture. Clearly a joy for long time fans but also a treat for newer ones as its enriching the world building no end. If you enjoy her Dragons then seeing Druids, Immortal Warriors and even Gods get involved will surely leave you bouncing in your seat. Yes this series is certainly heating up as secrets start to be revealed . Everyone's favourite Fae Rhi, is still torturing readers with "her King" but guess what ? He's not that far away ! Hmm I do have my suspicions but my lips are sealed. I would have liked more of a resolution as honestly apart from the mating I just didn't think there was any real progression here but yes I'm still very likely to read the next book.
A copy of this was provided for me with no requirement to review. I've voluntarily read it and these thoughts and comments are I believe a fair opinion

I really liked this one. I think it might be one of my favorites out of the Dark Kings books. These books are addicting!

I've enjoyed listening to the audio book versions of all the books so far. I think I only have 4 books left to listen to before I've listened to all the books that are available with Audible Escape and that makes me sad. I wish all the books were available with Audible Escape. :(

••••••••••••

REVIEW: 4.25 stars-- BLAZE is the eleventh full-length installment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is Brown Dragon King Anson, and IT specialist Devon Abrams’ story line. BLAZE can be read as a stand alone but for cohesion and backstory I recommend reading the series in order. There is a war approaching between the dragons, the fae and humankind, and the buildup has been ongoing for several installments.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Ulrik the Silver Dragon King and his uncle Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides-but Ulrik wants revenge against King Constantine of the Dragon Kings; Mikkel wants to become King of the Silvers, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon and to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. FIRESTORM overlaps with Donna’s new spin off series THE REAPERS who may be a potential ally with the Dragons Kings in their war with the Dark Fae.

Told from several third person perspectives including Devon and Anson BLAZE runs parallel to several other recent Dark Kings story lines including FIRESTORM ( #10), and picks up shortly after the events of SMOKE AND FIRE (#9). Like Kinsey Burns (Smoke and Fire) Devon Abrams works for the tech company Kyvor, and unbeknownst to our story line heroine, Kyvor has plans for Devon Abrams. Enter Brown Dragon King Anson, who has been assigned, along with Kinsey Burns and former MI5 agent Esther North, to keep an eye on our story line heroine. What ensues are Anson’s attempts to persuade Devon to search for the truth about Kyvor’s involvement in the upcoming inter-species war, and the building but forbidden relationship between Anson and the woman with whom he will fall in love.

BLAZE reveals much of the backstory and history of the war between the Dragons and the humans that led to the eradication of most of the dragons that once dominated the world. We are one step closer to learning the identity of Rhi’s Dragon King-the man that destroyed our heroine’s heart but a Dragon King who may have been duped by a rival for his love. BLAZE also brings Mikkel to for forefront of the Dragon King’s search for the truth, and Ulrik is hoping to take down two dragons in the war with the Fae.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several couples that cross-over from Grant’s Dark Warriors and Dark Swords series that begins the build-up to a final show down between the Dragon Kings and the Fae. The Reapers, once again, make a cameo appearance but their presence is limited to Rhi’s acknowledgment of Daire’s existence.

BLAZE is a captivating, revealing, and encouraging look at Dragon Kings and the women they love. The premise is intense; the characters are energetic and colorful; the romance is fated and seductive. There are some scenes of violence that may not be suited for all readers.

Returning to the Dark Kings, this tale features Anson, another dragon king. For those who have not read the previous books in this series, this book can be read as a standalone. Ms. Grant does an excellent job of quick recaps to help a reader get caught up to speed. That being said, it is recommended to read these books in order to understand the nuances between the different secondary characters. In addition, there are several subplots that wind through the multiple books which may be missed if this book is read out of order.

This book definitely appeals to my inner geek. I can easily identify with Devon Abrams. She is a woman working hard up the ranks of her company. She avoids the gossiping politics at work, does a great job and is thorough. So when she's targeted by her own company, she's blindsided. Why is someone who works so hard get penalized? Lucky for Devon, it isn't the first time this has happened to someone in the company. Her guardian angels are not what she expected, but they do offer the help she needs, whether she wants it or not. Sparking the interest in a Dragon King, Anson was not on her list of To-Do's but it happened anyway.

The characters in this story are fun. Devon is the disbelieving heads down working girl. She has a goal and she works towards it. Her world is filled with data and she loves her spreadsheets. To be drop kicked into the supernatural world could have sent her into the mental ward pretty quickly. It is nice to see how she stays in character and sticks to it. She logically tries to explain everything and when there are no other answers, the impossible becomes possible. It does not hurt that Anson is a hella sexy dragon in his human male form. Seriously are there any ugly dragons in human form? Doubtful.

The interactions between Devon and Anson are amusing with the "lost in translation". Basically, with Devon's narrow view of the world, Anson's explanations and actions are mystifying. This makes the dynamic between the two all the more fun to watch. Devon does hop onto the supernatural train rather quickly and the insta-lust hits both pretty fast. Their sexual chemistry is sweet and for me, a bit forgettable only because I'm a jaded erotic reader. I'm more interested in the several subplots slowly moving forward. In addition to why Devon's targeted by her company.

The book moves at a nice easy pace with just enough action and downtime. This book does build up the long running plot of two friends who became enemies over humans. As we learn a little bit more about the long running feud as well as the fae interference, I'm intrigued and wishing the next book would come quickly! This paranormal romance is recommended to dragon lovers.

So I enjoyed this book... It was good, not great. When I think about all the dragon kings books this one does not stand out. It just kind of fades into the storyline as whole. Which is fine you know. With a series that has been going on for as long as this one has it's bound to happen. What I really got out of this book is that I want to go back and re-read the warriors books. I miss those characters. I loved that they were involved in this book.

Our main characters were Anson and Devon. Devon worked for the company that was responsible for attacks to the Dragon Kings and their mates in the past and the company has information on all of the Kings. They talk Devon into helping them find out how they got that information. Devon agrees because she had no idea the company she worked for was evil. Anson is kind of her body guard and they fall in love.

Really that's about all that happens. It's kind of the same story as a lot of the other books. And again that is totally fine! Because it was still an enjoyable story but I am ready for more things to happen in the series plot line. This book felt like a filler. And I am pretty sure I said that about the last book as well. So it's time for some action to happen.

Will I read the next one? Hell freaking yes I will. I am completely obsessed with theses characters. I love the warriors, the druids and the Kings!

Dragons. I've always been fascinated by them, even better when they shapeshifted in handsome and dignified men.
Anson was a Dragon King and was on a mission to protect his race.
There, he had the help of Kinsey, who was Ryder's mate, friend of Anson, and Esther. The two humans were trained in technology and disguised. But they would need someone inside the company where the enemy was. That's where Devon Abrams comes in. She was the key.

Devon was a successful woman. But she wanted to be loved too, and it was hard to find a man who wanted her out of bed for a serious relationship. The men were intimidated by her.
So it was refreshing when she met the self-confident Anson.

But the coming of Anson in Devon's life brought two dangers: the first one was her life, since she discovered that her boss actually participated in a plan that could put the human race in extinction; And then to her heart. How could she resist her attraction to Anson?

Adventure, fantasy, mystery and romance.

So hooked on this series now! I have to go back and read them all. This was a magical book. The characters were amazing, the storyline is addictive, and I literally couldn't put it down.

As Kinsey, Esther, and Anson are in London to find a way in to Kyvor, time feels like it's running out. After watching for weeks they have found their way in, Devon Abrams. She has something each of the women like and Anson just finds her beautiful. But while the girls want her help, he is questioning whether or not they should up end someone's life this way. If Kyvor didn't have his face he would go in by himself.

Finally they decide on Devon and contact her. Once their story is told and she finds out what the company has been up to she decides she will help. At the last minute, however, Anson tries to talk her out of it.

As they are planning a way to go in to get her if necessary she has been call to the boss's office and he has questions that she isn't willing to answer.

This is an intricate story that grows more convoluted and dangerous each time they find out something new. It's amazing for the readers. I loved it!

I liked Anson and Devon's slow-paced courtship. It allowed both characters to come to terms about a multitude of issues between them and didn't feel like an insta-lust relationship. Now I realize this book was about their romance along with plot progression regarding Ulrik-and it was a good story-but I'm really interested in Rhi and Con! Talk about two people who should totally be together...

The Dark King series is becoming a new distraction for me! The world building is nicely done, but the characters! I love the variety of characters-Dark Fae, Druids, Dragon Kings, humans, Warriors, Light Fae-and how they all bring something interesting to the storyline! Blaze started out slow but ended on a high note for me. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this saga!

I am always on the edge of my seat when I listen to these books I love the dragon kings. Just when I thought I was not sure how I was going to be able to deal with how slow moving everything is going that ending made me jump for joy finally its going to get real. I am always going back and forth with who I think is Rhi's dragon king and just when I am like OK I've got it I definitely know who it is now I get knocked for a loop and then I'm not sure again.

When I realized partway through reading this arc that it was the eleventh book in the series and not the first, I should have listened to my gut and stopped reading. However, the mere fact that it was given to me through goodreads for a rating kept me going. I was hopeful it might be the type of book you could finish without needing to read the other books, but I was very wrong. This is not a standalone. So, my rating is not based on how much I understood the plotline, but rather on the writing, logic the characters displayed, etc.

Unfortunately, I could not connect with this author's writing. I was actually really surprised when I realized this was the eleventh book in the series, because the writing is extremely simplified and vague. It's very much like novice fanfiction. The characters are incredibly bland, especially Devon (who I'm not sure has been introduced in previous books, but she had zero personality and was so easily sucked into the cheesy messages on her laptop. What does she even do at Kyvor? Her work was never made clear). Anson seems like a typical macho alpha male. I had to laugh that he didn't care if the human they pulled into their scheme got hurt at Kyvor until he had sex with Devon and decided he was suddenly her protector. The sex itself was just silly. Who thinks having sex is a good idea when dark magical beings are trying to break into your house? Of course it's all insta-lust and insta-love anyway, which I despise. The logic they followed and the drama that unfolds seemed insipid rather than tense. On a side note, this is also the first time I've read a book where one of the characters has an accent. Anson's Scottish brogue was really hard to read and just did not resonate with me. It's a personal preference that I'm glad to discover, because while I love the sound of accents, apparently I really don't like reading them.

As the plot progresses we get side shots of various other characters who, I'm guessing, provide a bit more clarity into the plot, although to me it seemed like no one was really saying anything. It does seem to be quite convoluted, with a wide range of cast members. I am interested in the types of magical beings the author introduces, such as the warriors (who can apparently inhabit a god's spirit and be granted fearsome characteristics for battle). It seems like the dragons have a long history that has already been explained in previous books. The one thing I didn't particularly like about them was how they would constantly refer to the women as mates if they were in a relationship with a dragon king. For some reason it just rubbed me the wrong way. I was disappointed in how weak Anson seemed to be in dragon form as well. He doesn't accomplish anything in that form, so the action scenes were incredibly frustrating.

The last quarter of the book is very messy. The situation needs to be made more clear in the writing because I had trouble following along with what was happening. It seemed like something would happen and then suddenly something else was happening that made no sense. It just needs a firm hand in editing to make it more clear. The entire book needs a lot of editing, as there are errors on every single page. I realize what I read was an arc and probably not the final version, but for a book that I received in April to be published in June, I would have thought it would be in better shape editing-wise.

It was really nice going back to the Dark Kings world, I don’t why but I kind of stopped reading them around book 4 I think, anyways reading this one made me really want to go back and read the ones I didn’t and read the Druids series (Dark Sword/Dark Warrior) because I realised I had missed them. It also has made me really curious about the reapers series which I have not yet read.

Anson is the Dragon King of the brown dragons, with his current job to well babysit two women on a mission to bring down Kyvor, a tech company that might be working with the enemy of the dragon kings and is involved in some shady things happened in the past at Dreagan.

Devon Abrams is a human working at Kyvor, she completely happy with her life (yes she does miss having someone to love but she’s happy with what she has) and she loves her job. Finding out that Kyvor is not at all what it seems and getting those rose coloured glasses ripped away, Devon decides to help Anson and his friends and bring down Kyvor.

I really liked Anson and Devon, who wouldn’t? They were great characters and had strong personalities. Anson is of course an alpha hero, he’s protective, loyal and possessive of Devon. Devon similarly when she found out what Kyvor were doing, she wanted to get to the bottom of it even if it meant putting herself in danger and I admired her determination. Devon and Anson are attracted to each other from the get go but how can a human and Dragon king be together especially with all those enemies trying to get to them.??

I liked how their relationship gets build up, they had great chemistry and they worked really well together!

The danger is nigh in this book, with the enemies of Dragon Kings; Ulrick and Mikkel having their own struggle with each other and ofcourse fae who seems to be really involved everything. There are still loads of questions to be answered after this book but the end it seems is nearing. I would really like to know more about Rhi and her Dragon King (I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHO IT IS??!) and how dragon kings will defeat the fae and Mikkel and maybe Ulrick will get his own happy ending who knows??

While I think it would be okay to read it as a standalone, it would just be a great read if the reader is already familiar with the world, storyline and the characters because the cast of this series includes other series characters as well so it would just be better/more enyoyable if one’s familiar with them.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and since I need some answers I will definitely be checking out the next book!

In the beginning I wasn't sure if Devon would be a strong enough primary female character for this book but she had a quiet strength about her that was refreshing and created a no-nonsense type feeling as she moved through this story. Readers will come to admire her and how she deals with all the unusual and scary things that begin to happen to her.

Mr. I don't need help, Anson, comes across as not caring or involved in what is happening but don't let this fool you. As a primary male character, he is continually evolving throughout the story showing him as caring and compassionate as well as angry and violent. The author does a phenomenal job of slowly letting his softer side come out while keeping the tension present.

This book has most of the characters from previous books to this series so it feels like home while you are reading. You learn a little more about Rhi and Con's lost relationship and you get to see more of the Evil Ulrick and his uncle. For me, Rhi's part in this book just keeps her pain up upfront and personal regarding her breakup with Con, constantly tearing at the hole in my heart when I think of them losing each other.

Also, woven into the story are characters from the Dark Sword series and the newer Reaper series. This is by far one of the parts that I love about the author, Donna Grant's writing. She always brings in previous series creating a larger world for the reader. I have read every book of these three series and many of her other series. How many have you read?

Because of the uniqueness of Anson and Devon's story I give this 4.5 Stars.

Blaze by Donna Grant
Dark King #11

In the complex entertaining supernatural paranormal world created by Donna Grant there are dragons, fae, druids and more. In the Dark Kings series the dragon kings are featured and though I came in on book 10 and missed out on much I find I can read the books as they come out and not feel I need to have read the previous ones. That said, I do hope to find and read each one of them at some point in the future.

In this book the two main characters are Anson, dragon king of the browns, and his mate-to-be, Devon. Devon works at Kyvor, a business that the dragons want to get information from. Two women from past books in the series are working to ally Devon with their cause and Anson is there as their bodyguard. The novel is action-packed and includes spying, kidnapping, bad guys, fights, attempted rape, torture, friends that come to the rescue, romance and a bit of backstory, some catching up with major players not necessarily part of this book and preludes to what may be coming next. There are a number of characters still waiting for their stories to be told and I am eager to find out what will happen to all of them.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

So much happens in this book. The real enemies are revealed, kidnapping, more unanswered questions and of course love.

Anson and Devon were instantly attracted to each other. Their struggle to bring down Kyvor and find out who is pulling the strings was intense. Devon struggled to accept that fact Anson is a dragon, as well as there being other magic out there. This brought new tension to their relationship but the fear of loosening each other made them realize how much they cared.

I really liked these two. I really like how career driven Devon is. I also loved how honest she is because as soon as she realized Kyvor was bad she worked to stop them.

I still want to know who Rhi's king is. I thought we were going to find out at the end but nope. I need to know!

I also want to see the confrontation with Usaeil because I know it's going to be intense.

This novel is #11 in the series, "Dark Kings" by author; Donna Grant. Okay, for me so far in the series, this novel moved a little slow for me in the beginning but once I got into it (about 1/2 way) man, did it get exciting! The HOT Scottish alpha male that's able to shift into his natural form as a dragon really goes through some stuff!! The action and suspense are crazy in this novel and the surprise characters, WOWza! Yes, the plot twist are still building so when the final novel is released in this series, it's going to be EPIC! If you are in a book rut, then this series and author are definitely worth a try! You won't be disappointed! Definitely takes the reader on a Dragon ride!

I've never read a dragon shifter book before. If they are all as captivating as Blaze, then I want to read a lot more. If not, then I just want to read the others written by Donna Grant. The suspense is there right from the opening paragraph, and just builds as the story unfolds. It was like reading an epic fantasy set in our modern world. I love battles between good and evil, and when an attraction grows into love during the process, so much the better. It's obvious that this is just a chapter in the whole story arc; count me in for wanting more.

I love the direction of this series. This series really heats up with Anson and Devon's romance. I really liked the twist at the end and all of the bumps in the road that Anson and Devon encountered. I also loved how Devon kicked but; she was such a fighter and was not afraid to fight for the people she cared about.

Overall a great addition to the series.

Better

than the last book, but still missing something for me. These Dragon Kings have been abused at every turn. I just wish they were written in a deeper way that really showed their anguish and distrust of humans. It would make their finding love all the richer.
