ROBERT HARRIS is the author of nine best-selling novels: Fatherland, Enigma, Archangel, Pompeii, Imperium, The Ghost Writer, Conspirata, The Fear Index, and An Officer and a Spy. Several of his books have been adapted to film, most recently The Ghost Writer, directed by Roman Polanski. His work has been translated into thirty-seven languages. He lives in the village of Kintbury, England, with his wife, Gill Hornby.
I found the narrative interesting at times and there were definitely some page turning moments. Where I struggled was that the plot was quite far fetched and also the characters were so odious. I suppose that’s the point but for me I prefer a character I can root for and engage with. Harris writes well there’s no doubt and I’m sure others will love it, but it just wasn’t my thing. Hence only 3 stars.
Ok as a thriller but I really just couldn't buy into the whole idea of Stalin having a secret heir hidden in the far north woodlands of Russia, ready to take over the nation once someone came to fetch him.
