This collection contains Blind Spot, Down Shift and Dead Head, which combine to form a standalone novel in the Long Haul Home series.
Blind Spot
Army veteran Cash Bishop chases little white lines around the South and Midwest, working as a long haul trucker to make ends meet until the homestead he is building with his mother and sister can support the family.
When a security breach at Hoover Dam takes all the U.S. hydroelectric power stations offline the day after a category five hurricane hits the Gulf of Mexico, cutting off electricity to millions and threatening an already compromised fuel supply, Cash figures it's time to chase those white lines home to Tennessee.
By the time he hits Chicago, the lights are out across the country, throwing America into a new dark age in which only the strong and the prepared will survive.
Down Shift
More than two days go by before solar scientist Hannah Carter realizes that the power and communication systems have gone out across America.
Obtuse? No — her state-of-the-art research facility has all the power it needs and Hannah is elbows deep in a patent application.
When she does wake up to the New America, her first thought is of her teenage brother, Ellis — stuck on his own in a boarding school with similarly troubled boys.
To reach him, she’ll have to escape everything from riots to solitary killers on the road.
First she has to escape her employer.
The research company isn’t what she thought it was.
And the men in the shadows know her name.
Dead Head
After weeks of traveling dangerous roads, Cash Bishop is almost home. But other forces are converging on Dover, each with their own plans for Cash and those he is sworn to protect.
In a contest of who will live and who will die, sometimes it’s the lucky who win.
This was a great series. This collection contains all three books and we follow several sets of people as they try to get home after electricity, phones, etc. stops working in the USA. We have a wonderful hero who has to get home from several states away when it all falls apart--he is our primary hero. A lot happens besides the power outage, and the author has taken the story in a very unexpected way. We see the history of what is happening in several states as unrest takes over. The primary heroine is a scientist and she has to deal with people who are trying to capture her-capture her!-when she heads off to find her stepbrother and make sure he is safe and then she has to figure out what to do next. Besides that we have the hero's family and some friends and a bad guy that we hope doesn't cause harm. It is very exciting and I really loved how the author wove together the groups trying to get to safety and how the relationships between different people developed. I guess a big part of why I loved the story is that it shows what you can do if you are trained in survival and prepared for anything--and also what you can do when thrown into a chaotic, unexpected situation without preparation. I think several more stories could come in this future history and I look forward to reading them.
The premise of attack and collapse has been done before but the collusion of a shadow government here because the world population needs to be reduced was very far fetched. Organizations run by out of control insane people are not effective. This also had a predicable criminal and predictable outcome. The ending was very weak.
I purchased the first 3 books in a set. Once I started I could not stop. The characters are so real with a very good story line. I am going on Amazon right now for part 4.
Oh my gosh I loved this book. I like how all the characters and their stories merged. Fast paced action, I found myself saying out loud oh no, watch out!
A good twist to the getting home scenario. Well written and very real characters. Only problem was, it was too short! Definitely needs another book or two.
The main character, Cash, is a strong, moral man. I just wanted everything to work out for him. What a good job Dana did making the characters come alive. I thought the mix of bad guys a little strange and unbelievable. Would the U.S. Army collude with such a hodgepodge? I can't complain too much because I don't want to spoil the plot line. Can't wait for book. 4.
Loved it, great character development started, can't wait to find out more about what happened and why, how these people gathering together will survive, too many unanswered questions to stop this series, can't wait for the next installment, can it be longer length of book please?
This is one of those books that you say "couldn't put it down until you finished it" and REALLY mean it. It was interesting from the first page and what a way to end the book!!! Please don't let the story end there!!!!
This series is not one to miss if you are into good post apocalyptic stories. Well written, action packed and with just the right amount of romance. Cannot wait for the next installment!
I love PA fiction and this was a pretty good one. Truck driver Cash trying to make it home as the world collapses. If you enjoy apocalyptic fiction you should enjoy this story.
Really enjoyed the book. We need more to complete the story. Although there were many characters in the book it was not confusing or left you with who were they again? Great storyline, absolutely loved the key characters and the evil ones. Write faster Dana Fraser!
The power goes of all over the U S . It is a conspiracy by the U S gov. They want to reduce the world population by half. The ones they want to save are in bunkers. Unfortunately this apparently is a series of books so this first one 'LEAVES YOU HANGING' !
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's well written with a good storyline and characters you actually can identify with and enjoy. I will be looking for more in this series.
it is real enough to keep me turning pages. a different take on end of the world as we know it. sure hope it doesn't happen this way. waiting for the next book is going to be hard.
Good story train. Cannot wait for next in the series-what happens Sands, what happens with Cash and all of the rest. Still a lot of development for Ellis.
I chose this rating because I felt that the storyline moved smoothly throughout the books. The only 2 things I didn't Care for ( just personal opinion) was the light sex scene at the end. I realize you felt the need to put it in, but the books were good without it! The second thing ( unless I missed it) was that Mr. Sand was kind of missing after the first couple chapters....
