Too creepy. Yes, even for me.

I LOVE taboo romances. The more fucked up they are, the better.
I LOVE MC books. The darker and grittier they are, the better.
I DON'T mind a big age difference in books.

In fact, I’ve read: this, this, this,
this, this, this and this.

And I loved them all.

HOWEVER.

********** Mild Spoilers **********

That photo on the cover? Yep, that’s the hero. His name is BATTERY.

Late thirties, with a moustache and “sweat in his long hair”.

The heroine is 16. A virgin.

He takes her away from the carnival. She wants to leave. He doesn’t let her. There is no one around to help her.

He is lusting after her. Watching her sleep. Brushing her hair out of her face. Rubbing the lotion onto her ass because she can’t do it herself.

He isn't conflicted because he's known her for a long time and developed feelings for her. No. He sees her for the first time and immediately likes what he sees:

"His gut tightened at the smooth caress of her sultry voice. The kind of voice where he expected the next words out of her mouth to describe how he made her feel and what she wanted him to do to her."

"Battery forgot about his cigarette and stared at her young body barely contained in the tank top and cutoffs. He exhaled, and a low growl came from his throat. Anyone with half a fucking brain would know the girl was nowhere near eighteen years old...
What they saw was sex. Her large breasts on a slender body."

I get it. They find some kind of a connection later and they fall in love. But he shouldn’t have approached her and lusted after her in the first place. Period. There are other ways in which he could have helped.

Life is life. It's illogical. It's messy. It's complicated. Anything is possible. However, lusting after a child and looking at her rack is creepy. I’ve read lots of books with a twenty-year age gap between a grown-up man and an underage girl and they were all written beautifully. This one was disgusting.

If he approached my daughter, I would cut his balls off.

Please note that my review does not refer to the author's writing or the quality of the book. Just to the fact that a grown-up man loves an underage girl's "sultry voice" and lusts after her "large breasts".

...or something is book 1 in the Ronacks Motorcycle Club series and it's the story of Battery the President and Bree the sixteen year old he took from a Carnival. Honestly I don't have much to say about this book because first I'm hooked on this author and second although it's very similar to the ones I already read I don't care. I really enjoyed Battery and Bree's connection which goes back longer than Bree realizes and their chemistry was hot. Another plus for me Older Man/Younger Woman which keeps me coming back to this author.

I could've loved this book if it wasn't for the fact the h stayed true to the H while he slept around. If that doesn't bother you then it is a good book. A few sad scenes (a couple of characters die) but a decent read nonetheless.

BOOK REVIEW: …Or Something
SERIES: Ronacks Motorcycle Club #1
AUTHOR: Debra Kayn
GENRE: Erotic Contemporary/MC Romance
PUBLICATION DATE: August 16, 2016

SYNOPSIS:
He took her away from the carnival.

She was sixteen years old.

Thrust into an unfamiliar way of life with the president of the Ronacks Motorcycle Club; Bree Walsh manifests an unusual connection to the older, sexy, powerful biker until every neglected emotion from her childhood resurfaces. Intense, all-consuming, and unfathomable, Bree pushes the boundaries with Battery only to find herself caught in the most painful and raw existence she's ever known.

One moment in time changed Battery's life and set him on a masterminded course that would come full circle before he was ready. The president of Ronacks MC has shaped his life around his club, his family, and Bree. But when everything he's worked hard to achieve starts crumbling and the dangers become real, he refuses to lose and desperately risks everything, including his obsessive heartache named Bree.

MY THOUGHTS:
This is the first book in the beginning of a new series. It is also another stunning work of art! This book wove such a beautiful tale. I loved every minute of it. The story is set up to make you think that it is lecherous and illegal, but that couldn't be further from the truth. You are brought on a journey of self-discovery and a love so deep that it makes your heart hurt.

I was so drawn in to the story to try and figure out the secrets that were kept, gradually told and the fear of what would happen if the truth came out. I was afraid that the consequences of the truth could destroy love and lives. I had a lump in my throat on more than one occasion. So much feels going on.

Breedescription

Battery description

Bree is the strongest yet most vulnerable heroine. She is afraid to let herself get close to others because she has been abandoned so many times in her life. Battery is a powerful figure, but his heart is pure gold and the love he has for Bree is deep and true. I loved these characters. I am getting choked up writing my review because I am so sad that this book is over. I can’t wait for more!

There is a lot of intrigue and suspense in the story that kept my interest all the way through. The story flowed well and you were given just enough to satisfy your questions, but then twisted and turned so you were back to asking questions. I love that!

What an amazing story, give it a chance you won’t regret it!

Recomendo!

I love the author and I don't know why it took me so long to read this book.
The story is slow at the beginning but gradually the mysteries are going to be unraveling and we're connecting in reading.
Don't expect flowers and songs of love, the story is very real.
We have drama, hot scenes of sex, nasty club whores trying to turn old lady, loyalty among members of the Club, closely guarded secrets, enemies of the Club bringing danger to everyone and action scenes and sadness.
What ruined it for me was after hero take the virginity of the heroin he feels guilty and kiss one of the bitches at the Club. I felt like putting a bullet in his head and launch the kindle on the wall!
I liked the secondary characters also and I was curious about the direction of the series.
Recommend!

Read the blurb. Take what you think this book is about and get rid of it. Read the book. Blow your mind.

This is my confession: Being my usual fashion, I include no spoilers in my reviews. In this case, I would go as far as not to include my own synopsis. You really need to read the blurb and venture on your own with Battery and Bree. I will tell you this: Bree and Battery have literally the love of a lifetime. In fact, ...or something might have the most poignant love story that I have ever read. The intricacies that Debra Kayn weaves is a masterpiece and in my humble opinion her best work to date. Given the work that she consistently puts out, thats really saying something.

I think I’ll be going against the majority here. Although I thought …Or Something was a decent book, I didn’t love it. From the synopsis, I was expecting something controversial and got all excited that I would get a book I could put in the “Why the *&%#@ Did I Like That Book!” category, but that’s not what it ended up being. Yes, there is a 20-year difference in age between Bree and Battery, but nothing controversial happened. Yes, he was somewhat of a parent figure to her and they eventually ended up in a relationship, but it was well after she was of legal age.

From the beginning, it’s obvious that Battery had a connection with Bree, one she didn’t know about. Checking up on her, he finds her working at a carnival trying to pass as an adult. When her situation gets precarious (or even more precarious since she’s already run away to be a carny) Battery gives her the out she needs, even though it’s a huge gamble on her part since she didn’t know him from Adam.

We are told they built a strong loving relationship that was somewhat strained because of the pull between the two but being told this is much different than being shown. I would have loved to have had a front row seat to how Battery raised her, how he treated her, and how she came to love not only him but the rest of the Ronancks MC. Because of huge time gaps in the story, we miss all that so I never really felt the connection between them.

Bree was a young girl with an old soul. I wanted to know more about her, but what I did learn, I liked. She had some immature responses to some things, but being so young and in some intense and confusing situations, her actions and words were understandable. I applauded her when she stood up to Battery and called him on his BS.

Battery ended up being the biggest mystery to me, and I can’t say I liked what little I was shown. I’m not a fan of a hero who can’t make up his mind and Battery had one of the worst cases of this I’ve ever read. The fact that he kept her hanging for years just didn’t work for me.

Even with the time gaps, the mystery weaves throughout, with clues dropping here and there. I pegged who the mystery man was from the start, and as things started adding up I found myself wondering why the issues weren’t taken care of long before. When the past finally caught up with them, what happened left me with my mouth hanging open and thinking “WTF! Why didn’t he just do that 20 years ago?”.

Again, …Or Something was a decent book with characters I wanted to know more about. My constant questioning of their actions plus my complete dissatisfaction with how things turned out kept me from giving this book a top rating.

Bree has a connection to the club but the reader is taken on a slow trip to find exactly what that connection is. That trip is filled with suspense and intrigue. This isn't a story of an older biker seeing a 16 year old girl and lusting after her. There's deeper reason and a longer history of him watching and taking care of her. No spoilers here since it would ruin the story. There's a 20 year age difference and a transition from protector to guardian to lover. No sex with a minor girl but a love that went soul deep.

June 2018 -- DNF

If pressed, I'd give this 1.5 Stars. Just a bit oogy for me. The subject content, at about 84% just skeeved me out a bit. The whole daddy [or worse yet .. justify that this really is that] thing is just not my cuppa.

A decent author but this seems to be her main focus; really, seriously older men, and very, seriously young girls into young women. And the whole thing is supposed to be normal.

I may try to read others, if she can stay away from the social danger of making this seem almost okay. It is not.

Happy Reading!

“Time was a cruel reminder of how little she had in her life.”

Very rarely does a book touch your soul. I have had a week to process this book and I still at a loss for words. Thinking about this book makes my heart hurt.
This book…this book quite simply is EVERYTHING.

I do not give books a top rating lightly. This book is the reason I love to read. It obliterates every other book I’ve read until now. Does that sound crazy? Do you know why it knocks all other books out? Because this book is about a selfless love. A love that from start to finish is all consuming and beautiful. It transcends age, time, and genres. This is not just an MC romance – this is a love story for the ages. It is not a love story that is taken lightly and is not given to us wrapped up in a nice package. This is a love that is real, raw, and true. This selfless love is not only what Bree & Battery give each other, but also what Battery gives those he comes into contact with. Bree takes this love and flourishes and finds the family of her heart. Who doesn’t want that?

Is this book all sunshine and rainbows? No it is not – it is about life. Not a rose colored look at life, but life that happens & circumstances that shape us. Battery took a road that would lead him to the greatest love he could ever know. Bree didn’t know her path until she met him. The conflict, the age difference, the strength, the circumstances are told in a way that will break you in the best way possible. I was gutted the days after I read this book, even now when I think about it my heart hurts. I am not a crier, but this book did it to me. The emotions will leap off the pages and grab your heart and not let go.

I have always said Debra Kayn is a masterful storyteller and never settles until she gives the readers a book worthy of reading. This book solidifies her position even more. She is quite simply the best at what she does. She continues to strive to give her readers the best story possible with original storytelling. Her books transcend any genre – she is in a category all her own. That is a sign of a great author. She doesn’t fit in anyone’s box & I, for one, am thankful for that. The quality of her books speak for themselves.

Battery & Bree is a love story that will stick with you. The emotions will be so raw that at the end, even when DK puts your heart back together, you will still feel the aftershocks of reading this book. The passion, the heartbreak, the love will leave you thanking her for the ride and leave you wanting more.
Well done, Debra Kayn, well done & thank you.

I absolutely loved Battery. Strong, determined and loyal, he knows that he's crossing a line but when it comes to protection, he's willing to risk it all.

Bree has grown up knowing that she needs to look after herself. She has no one and she's hardened herself to cope with being alone. Until an encounter changes everything for her.

Although I really enjoyed this book, what I missed was that cohesive feeling that normally comes with a MC book. There wasn't very much information on the other MC brothers and it lacked that feeling of togetherness, family.

There are quite a few twists and turns in this book but it flows well and is easy to follow.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and I'm sure you will too.

3.5 A Good Man's Sacrifice Stars

If you have read some of Debra Kayn's books you know she loooooves to make her readers cringe with age differences between her Hero's and Leading Ladies. She enjoys the walk on the wild side to see just how much you can deal with.
Battery is 37 - Bree is 16: That's a 21 year age for those of you who don't want to do math.

Having just finished Chief & Jett my expectations of this Book was off the charts. I am happy to say though I read Chief and Jett first as those books made me love her writing. This one just made me "eh."

My Book Rants:
-Bree kept trying to get the MC to call the cops. Coming from a girl who ran away from the foster system and was in hiding for years and did her best not to be found by cops/the system it was hard for me to believe she would keep wanting to involve them. She kept begging for them to call the cops and it became a little annoying after a while.
-I keep comparing this novel to Chief and Jett and I can't help but judge Battery for how he treated Bree for 6 years. He would give in then treat her like she didn't matter... by 36% I would have done my best to leave his ass. But of course she didn't... she forgave him for everything. I wanted her to have a little more backbone.
-Bree was so bitchy to Mel. Sure the prospect liked her but I feel like she could have had a friend if she wasn't such a Bitch to him all the time.

Overall it was a decent book. I will try another of her series next: Wrapped Around Him and hopefully that one will be on the same level as Chief and Jeff :)

Right from the beginning you knew there was so much more to the story and it took getting the end to finally find out everything. There are some great characters in this series. The age difference didn't bother me as Battery was very respectful of that fact. The only reason its only a 3 star rating is I found it a bit choppy. I had to constantly remind myself of Bree's age because she would grate on my nerves at times, but then she would surprise me with her maturity. She had a rough childhood and had to grow up real fast so although she was only 16 when Battery took her to the club she came across as a lot older than that. I have read a few other series from Debra Kayn and I have always liked her style of writing so I'm looking forward to the next one about Swiss.

Carla's Five Star Review

Bree Walsh has not had an easy life. Tired of bouncing from one foster home to the next, she runs away. She ends up getting a job running one of the booths at a local carnival. When an older yet oh so sexy biker shows up at her booth one day, she has no idea why she feels such a strong connection to him. After all, she is only sixteen years old. Her body should be screaming "Stranger Danger", but its not. When the biker tells her to get on the back of his bike, she does so without any reservations.

Battery is the president of the Ronacks Motorcycle Club. Years ago, he found himself in a dangerous situation that wound up linking him to Bree forever. As Bree grows up, Battery watches over her as best as he can from a distance. However, everything changes when she disappears. He becomes obsessed with finding her, and every day that passes without knowing where she is at is driving him mad. When he finally finds her, he decides that the best place for her is at the clubhouse with him in Montana, so he and his brothers can keep her safe. Bree adjusts to her new life fairly well, even though she is still plagued with past hurts and insecurities. Things are quiet for a couple of years leading the club to drop their defenses.Big Mistake!! Out of no where, chaos erupts. Secrets refuse to stay buried, and past enemies show up threatening to destroy everyone and everything Battery holds dear.

Wow! I freaking loved this book!! If I could, I would give it ten stars! Five stars just aren't enough. Of course, I fell in love with Battery the moment I saw him on the cover of the book. It was nice to have that sexy image in my mind while I read the book. On one hand, Battery was a tough and intimidating biker- one you would never want to mess with. On the other hand, his love for Bree just melted my heart. Despite their age difference, it was obvious that these two were meant for one another. If you are worried about the age difference being creepy, dont!! Nothing happens between Battery and Bree until she is of age. For me, the age difference didn't bother me at all. Age is just a number, right?

One thing that I love about Debra Kayn is how she keeps her story lines real. While this is an MC book, the real story lies within the relationship that exists between Battery and Bree. It is that once in a lifetime love that we all hope to find for ourselves. If you are looking for your next great read, one click this baby now! I promise you won't be disappointed!!

I’m not really sure where to begin with my review that would do this book the justice it deserves. You know how you get that story that pulls you in from the first paragraph, grabs a hold of your heart and soul and doesn’t let go? Yeah, this is one of those stories. I know from the blurb you’re thinking “this guy is a perv”, but I promise you that is not the case. Debra Kayn does a masterful job of bringing this true love story to light and making you realize their twenty year age difference doesn’t make a hill of beans. It truly shows that love knows no boundaries.

Even at age sixteen, Bree is wise beyond her years, and one of the strongest female characters I’ve ever read. Even when she is being strong, her vulnerability is enduring and as real as it gets. Forced into a life of taking care of herself after being shuffled from foster home to foster home, she finally has enough and runs off and joins a carnival. Battery, after finally tracking Bree down at the carnival, decides the best place to keep her safe is back at the clubhouse with all his brothers surrounding her. As the years go by, there is a subtle change in their relationship, one that Battery is fighting every step of the way. Bree is determined to make him realize that he loves her just as much as she loves him, but as secrets from the past come to light and her life becomes endangered, Battery is worried he’ll lose her forever.

If you’re looking for a book that is suspenseful, raw, intense, and as real as it gets, then you don’t want to miss …Or Something. It just doesn’t get any more real than this. This is one of those reads will "all the feels" and will stick with you for a long time to come. Thank you Debra Kayn for this magnificent read and making me believe again that love knows no boundaries and true love will always win.

**Gifted A Copy**
Now I'm not a fan of giving spoilers away so sorry you won't be getting any from me, because let's face it where's the fun in that? Besides I went into this book on nothing more then faith in the Authors previous work that I loved & a Beautiful cover (Yeah Yeah I know "Never judge a book by its cover") but I chose to go in blind, why? well I saw something the author wrote and it stuck with me "This story is between Battery, Bree, and each reader." Don't ask me why it stuck with me it just did so I stayed away and went in nervous, excited, and completely clueless and I'll never regret it!!! not knowing magnified the suspense 10 fold.
...Or Something was magnificent! (that's not even a good enough word to describe it but it's all I got) I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. It's been a long time since I've had a book hangover but I just couldn't bring myself to put it down (I tried..I swear..OK ok I didnt..lol) I ended up staying up all night to finish it and it was worth every minute I dragged butt the next day.
Battery & Bree's story is not your typical Happily Ever After, It's not your average love story..It's something different, something raw, something out of the norm, something out of the box and it's Beautiful
It may not always be pretty but not ever Happily Ever After is a Fairytale.
Everyone needs a little ..Or Something in there life...so give it a chance you won't be disappointed

From someone with there very own none typical love story Thank you Debra I loved every second of it and i can't wait to see what you give us next
& Thank you DBBB for my gift

I love when an author challenges me. Debra Kayn's ...or Something does. It challenges me to look beyond the age difference; to see two old souls who need each other. Bree is a beautiful, wild-red haired, free-spirit working at a carnival. Passing herself off as eighteen, but Battery knows she's lying. Knowing he can't leave her, he takes her with him back to his home and his club. She wants more, but he can't. Once she's of legal age, things change, plans change, but Battery can't let his guard down. There are things about Bree that no one knows - not Bree and not his club - and Battery knows that once the secrets are out, she won't be safe.

Debra Kayn's writing is superb. She has a way of lulling you in and making you feel safe, and then twisting everything you thought you knew. By the end of the book, you're heart is pumping, your anxiety is high, and your wringing your hands wondering what other surprises she has in store.

This is the beginning of a new series for Debra Kayn, and it is full of new characters, a new MC, new storylines, surrounded by the comfort of the Bitterroot Mountains. I cannot wait to see what new adventures her series will take us. Hold on - ...or Something is an exhilarating ride!!

This one was a relatively okay read. I was not a fan of the time jumps and the hot and cold bullshit that Battery was giving. I understand being confused and unsure when there is such a large age gap. Plus the added predicament of being the person that took her in, but fuck enough of the cowardly shit and go after what you want already. I mean she was obviously stating her feelings and emotions towards the situation in a mature manner how come he couldn't have given her the same respect??

And I really wish Bree would have been able to leave the club for a little bit just to show Battery what he was missing. Another thing that I didn't like was how drama filled it all was, and all of the hiding information and lying. None of the secret revelations really added up and I sort of lost interest and became bored by it all. Not to mention the declarations of never leaving but constantly leaving emotionally and planning a fucking suicide mission.

On a side note, I really hated the nickname Battery and Carny-girl. They both felt very odd and did not roll off the tongue for me. But I will say that I really loved the cover! You can tell that so much time and effort went into it.

Debra Kayn continues to amaze me with her brilliant storytelling and unforgettable characters and I freaking loved her newest MC book ...Or Something. I immediately liked Battery and Bree right from the beginning and I had no problem with the age difference between them because I trusted Debra to tell their love story. What a beautiful love story it was!

Even though Bree is very young, she really has an "old" soul because of what she's been through in her life. I liked her feistiness and her endless love for Battery and she's proven to be the perfect woman for him. All I can say about Battery is that he is awesome! I loved and adored him so much and Bree was one lucky woman. There was so much more to their relationship than what you initially see and what a rollercoaster of emotions this author brings you on. My heart was pounding the entire time and when it wasn't, I was crying at what they've had to go through to get their happy ending. I loved everything about this story and this is one of Debra's finest work, if not the best.

10 stars!!

I loved this book. We first meet Bree who is working a booth at a carnival. She is just 16 years old - but she is wise beyond her years after growing up in foster care. Battery, who is the president of a MC has been looking for Bree, but she doesn't know this. Circumstances happen and Bree leaves the carnival on the back of Battery's bike. The story that follows has twists and turns. Why was Battery looking for Bree? How does he know her? What happens when the full story comes to light? You need to read this to find out.

I have NEVER connected with a character like I did Bree. This is a passage from the book that could be describing me "...but she protected herself from growing close to others. Always afraid to feel too deeply in case she had to leave, she kept her needs and wants to herself, afraid if others formed an attachment or opinion about her, they'd abandon her."

Both characters in this book are so real. I never saw the connection coming. Thank you for another great story Debra.

Battery took away bree from the carnival at 16 years old he'd always watched over her from a young age but she didn't know that as she grew into a young women his feelings started to grow and bree felt the same way but there would come a time when the past catches up with them as the president of the ronacks motorcycle club he would protect her as would his brothers

Another great read did not disappoint well done xx

I liked some books from this author, so I had high expectations. I guess it's my fault if I'm disappointed. I really wanted to enjoy this book, but there was just so many things that didn't click for me. I could list them all, but it'll be a waste of time. Listing them, going over them won't change my rating, anyway. Let's just say I'm not going to continue with this series. I'll still check out future books from Ms. Kayn, just not this particular MC right now, or in the foreseeable future.

Wow..this book was... I can't even think of the right word. It was intense. Hot. Kind of sad. Frustrating. Kind of sweet too. Emotional for sure. Bree was way too mature for her age, even at 16. She was like, ageless. Her soul was like, 32 ...or something. And she was fierce. Way too patient with Battery. The guy was frustrating as hell. And he emotionally hurt the girl too many times to count. Even not realizing it. I said she was fierce, but she was also very fragile. She had abandonment issues. And the way Batt acted some times hurt her feelings. And what he did after he took her virginity was SO NOT FINE! I wanted to kick him in the balls and watch him hurt like he hurt Bree's feelings. I'm still angry with him about that, actually. He needed to do some serious groveling after that shit he pulled. He got away with it too easy.
Anyway, I am happy they got their HEA.

This was a very different MC book and one that kept me guessing till the end. There was a lot of mystery surrounding who Battery was taking care of up in the mountains and the young girl Bree who he rescued and brought back to his clubhouse with him from the carnival.
A tough coming-of-age biker romance with a twisted surprise in the storyline...lots of angst, drama and club action going on. I really liked it and will read the rest of the series eventually.

Great

I couldn't stop trying to figure this book out the whole time reading it, omg. My first from this author, but won't be the last. Battery drove me nuts with his push pull with Beer, but I finally gave in and loved him and all made sense in the end!!! Definitely a 5 star read

3.5 stars. Once I reconciled the age difference, I enjoyed the mystery. I would have preferred the h to be a bit older, like even over 18 at the start, but I think the author was making us feel uncomfortable on purpose.
Will read the next book.
