My name is Aubrey Britton. I was your every day average nerdy book blogger, obsessed with the hot guys on the covers but lusting from afar. I knew I'd never meet a guy like the ones in my books, with muscles like that, with eyes like that, with a mouth like that.
I knew I was destined to be an old maid, get a bunch of cats, work at a book store and live in my fantasy world until the day I died.
Hot, steamy sex was something reserved for the girls in my books, not a girl like me.
Until the day I literally fell for Isaac James, the hottest man to grace the cover of any romance novel.
And he wanted a girl like me.
And he had muscles like that.
And eyes like that.
And a mouth like that...and was a filthy talking sex god in the bedroom.
But we both had our secrets and we both had our guarded pasts. When all was revealed, would the nerdy book blogger get the guy?
Or was I destined to be alone forever?
Rated 18+ for insta-love, filthy talk, dirty sex and swoon worthy descriptions of the hottest man in the world.
This book had potential... it could have explored the world most of us live in and it could have shown the growth the h did after she realized what love was really about, after a traumatic experience. The H was awful and did little to become redeemable in my opinion, and I won't even go into how friendship and substance abuse is dealt with. Potential wasted.
Anyone who follows book blogs, BookTube, or romance novels, would be drawn to the summary. A book blogger who falls for a romance cover model...intrigue.
I wanted to address the writing style. Long interjects commentary into the narrative. I would find myself reading thoughts (inner monologue) in a book blogger format/informally as if the narrator (Aubrey or sometimes maybe even the author) were talking to me. She would actually say "you" in the text such as writing, "you'd be grouchy, too" as well as "and I have to tell you, it was fine indeed." This is a stylistic choice that can be a hit or a miss depending on the reader. Personally, I would rather read a story without any calls to action or "you(s)" included in the writing. That is my preference. If someone likes these jokes, they will not mind the many instances of them in the narrative. For me, it takes me out of the moment.
There were also lines that were foreshadowing/telling. I am already reading the story, I don't need advanced notice to turn the page. I am already doing that. One chapter ended with "And just like that I became the one night stand Isaac James nailed during the book event in Seattle. According to the papers that was." I would rather read her wake up to text messages or emails and find out about the story. I like being surprised, when I read:) I would have also liked to read the Skype date because that was early on in their relationship - what did they talk about? did they talk for a while? etc.
I liked the beginning and middle of the book. I just felt it was towards the end that it fell apart for me. I thought that Aubrey forgave Isaac and his family a little too quickly at the end. I felt a little cheated.
This book was me in every aspect; I loved it to pieces. The book starts off with us meeting Aubrey who is a book blogger and works at a bookstore. She has been invited to a book event and takes along her best friend, Chloe. I have to admit; I didn't like Chloe as she was always putting down Aubrey and later on her true colors comes through in the form of betrayal. Aubrey is headed to a book event that is starring Isaac James who is the latest hot cover model to adorn the covers of the latest romance books. Everyone is fawning over him and wants a piece of him. Aubrey and Chloe are lining up when she is pushed and somehow ends up embarrassing herself in front of Isaac. He helps her up, and they go their separate ways as Aubrey has a stand promoting her book blog. Soon she hears whispers as everyone is talking about the book blogger that has captured Isaac's attention. One thing leads to another and Aubrey and Isaac catch up and become an item. Underneath his handsome exterior, we discover that Isaac is an amazing guy who as a baby was abandoned. Just as Aubrey and Isaac are about to take it to the next level, Isaac's past is splashed across the tabloids, and he believes Aubrey spilled the beans. Can Aubrey prove to Isaac it wasn't her or is her fairytale HEA over before it started and is now classified as a spur of the moment fling? Will Aubrey get a second chance or will she become her future she had in mind as a hermit and cat-lady or in this case book-lady? Find out in this cutesy Book world Cinderella story "Bookish" by Olivia Long.
Attention, attention :) I don't usually post reviews but sometimes I just cannot help it. Spoilers ahead, do not continue if you are serious about reading it.

Aubrey, a blogger and supposedly calm and collected individual meets Isaac James, cover moder in the book industry. Tall, dark and handsome, he sweeps her off her feet in the usual fashion and becomes her world. Audrey is the stereotype nerdy person, shy, knows what her place is in this world (?) and escapes in her fantasies to balance herself - for the first few chapters anyway. After that, she is a love stricken girl, who I believe is not even in her teens than an adult. Too much daydreaming, too little character development. Isaac is too much of a perfect male specimen. The perfect gentleman who spoils her, fucks her ten ways to Sunday and treats her well. Again, too little character development. More descriptions of feelings and less action. Quick forgivings and no analysing whatsoever.Add in a family that is supposed to love him but somehow dissowns him for choosing her -PR and all that (besides, why would you want to hide you've adopted a child, you should be honored), and a classic best friend who in all actuallity is a two-faced bitch who wants all the attention to herself and meddles to get her way. You've got it all. Admitedly, it is a cliched plot in general, but you expect to have a deeper meaning. More character and less "I can't live without you", "You're amazing" on repeat. Now, don't get me wrong, insta-love and all is great and dandee but you still need to feel the words soaking through you and sweep you away. I won't even go into the grammar or typos...All in all, it has a lot of potential with "some editing". This is just my opinion, others probably give this book a 5 star glowing review. For me, I was thinking 1 stars is a bit harsh but 3 is too much. So, settling on a 2 it is.
This one just didn't do it for me. I made it to about 80% and skimmed the rest of the way. It was every romance novel cliche rolled into one book. At first, I thought the author was going for tongue in cheek, but I don't think that was the case. And it wasn't that the storyline was bad, it's just there was so much crammed in there and no real depth. It was more like a connect the dots, hit the point, and move on. We have the hot male cover model and nerdy girl...check that box. He falls in love with her and gives her confidence and everything goes along swimmingly. Best sex ever, mind-blowing orgasms, bluebirds of love flying over their heads. Meanwhile there's the jealous friend in the background wreaking havoc. Then comes the blow-up, when his secrets get out and everyone blames her. But she gets no chance to explain because his family kind of controls his life. Our heroine tries to move on, but then there is the awful "series of events" and he's just in time to save the day. They make up and live happily ever after.
2.5 stars. This book had so much potential!! It starts out great with a hero smitten from the start and a heroine who I found odd, but likable. However, it then drifts off to the author telling the progression of thier relationship and feelings for one another instead of showing...Add in the heroine having a 'friend' anyone with half a brain cell can see is totally awful and I ended up feeling cheated out of something that could have been fantastic. This author usally writes serials so this may be the reason this one did so much telling rather than showing. In any case, this author is someone who's books I might try again because I found the overall plot enjoyable.
BOOK REVIEW: Bookish by Olivia Hawthorne - Rating: ⭐️/5 stars - I’m pretty sure this is the first book I’ve ever rated 1 star. I usually give books the benefit of the doubt and rate them at least 2 stars, but this book didn’t even deserve that. I usually don’t post my reviews on Goodreads, but this review needed to be posted so someone else doesn’t go through the torture that I just did of finishing this book. - First of all, I found a MINIMUM of 3 typos. They weren’t just little typos either. It was quotation marks being used in the wrong way or words being spelled the complete wrong way. I can usually ignore a minor typo but this was too much for me to ignore and it happened too regularly. - Next, the characters were sooo unlikeable. There was the “villain” who I was supposed to hate and the author did a great job of making sure I hated her. But I had no respect for the “heroine” bc she obviously knew the “villain” was a bad person and continued to hang out with her and let her run her book blog?? The heroines pride and joy? I have friends who I trust completely and I would never let them touch and post on my bookstagram so idk how that worked. We also had to sit through numerous conversations where she was like “ohhh I’m so ugly I’m not pretty at all bc I have dark hair and glasses.” And then the boyfriend would go all One Direction on her and be like “you don’t know you’re beautiful that’s what’s so attractive about you.” Omg shut up. You are just fishing for compliments at this point especially when it happens about 80 times!! If I had to listen to the heroine talk about how much she wanted a relationship like in 50 shades without the BDSM one more time I was also gonna lose it. If you were actually part of the bookish community you would know there was better books and book relationships out there than 50 shades😂. And lastly for this point, if the characters said one more time “I’m okay” to any question that was asked of them I was gonna throw my kindle across the room. Pure torture. Could we get some better dialogue please? - Then there was the whole I’m 70% into the story and we take a complete left turn and all the sudden this contemporary romance is a murder mystery? Like the beginning and middle of the book was bad but we get to the end it completely fell apart. And all the sudden the main character becomes a secret millionaire? There was just so many things wrong with the plot of this book and a lot of it happened in the last 50 pages. - Lastly, we have the famous person dates a regular person trope going on in this book, but the famous person is a model for book covers. I could not tell you the name of a single model for book covers. And the press that this guy gets in this book is insane. Like why does he have events with girls screaming to sign their boobs? Why do they even know his name? How is he a billionaire from modeling the cover of books where you don’t even see his face, just his abs!? Why would he be on the cover of every magazine and the topic of all celebrity gossip? It made no sense at that point just make him an actor so at least that part of the plot made sense. - Basically don’t read this book idk how I didn’t DNF it lol.

This was an ok book, I’ve read worse, & was able to at least finish it. But it definitely could have been better if it went thru editing/beta readers again (if it went thru them to begin with, if it did, the author needs a new editor!). There were a lot of misspellings, words placed out of order, wrong words used, sentences that didn’t make sense, odd word phrasing, conflicting statements from one chapter to the next, etc. This was a purchase, so is published, which makes me not be able to overlook that.
The plot was totally predictable; it was like driving by a car wreck & can’t look away, that’s not always a bad thing for light reading. The flow was good & the world building was good. The ending & epilogue felt rushed. There were a lot of un-answered questions to events /things that happened in the story. The characters of Aubrey & Isaac are ok but not really developed, almost one dimensional & never really have any growth. Aubrey is a bit of a doormat in my opinion, & Isaac is just odd. The sex scenes were rather bland; I skipped thru a few paragraphs because it was just blah. Not sure the love between them is believable, as it’s mostly a lust fueled chemistry type relationship, with a side of bad family history for them both. There is a HEA, which is always appreciated.
*Spoilers* How could Aubrey be so stupid as to be best friends with Chloe, being put down since childhood by Chloe? So after Chloe did what she did, did Aubrey pick up with her blog again to try to salvage it, or just quit on it since she is no longer reading books, it’s never really mentioned again? The part about the police letting her back into the house that same night of her aunt’s murder didn’t make sense, it would have been considered a crime scene & since the aunt was murdered IN the house, not sure any normal/sane person would have been comfortable staying in the house until the person who murdered the aunt was caught or identified. What happened to the jewelry (Aubrey’s mother’s rings that they had resized for Aubrey) that her aunt was murdered over, since he came back looking for them again when he attacked Aubrey? It’s never mentioned again, other than she inherits a bunch of jewelry from her aunt. Not sure how she healed by sex with Isaac- from the murder of her family & from her being assaulted in her own home, but I guess that’s just me. Not sure how his career would have tanked for being found out as “Baby Charlie”, that just never felt legit, I would think it would help his career, after all the sympathy it would generate- the famous always say there is no bad press. What kind of jerk (Isaac) doesn’t even ask her side of things to find out if it was her that out-ed his Baby Charlie story?! (She was in Paris with him when it happened) How could he let something that stupid influence his relationship with her? I wouldn’t have wanted him back over that. Not sure what to make of his family making up at the end, how convenient for them to come around after a FEW years -a month before their baby is due. It felt wrong; I wouldn’t have forgiven them for hurting Isaac like that, I’d have given in to pregnancy hormones & had a fit.
This book was OK until the last 25%. Up until then it was your standard hot guy with geeky girl romance. Aubrey was filled with the standard self doubt, while being swept up in Isaac's lifestyle. But the big conflict that cause their separation I saw coming from a mobile away, and wanted to smack Aubrey because she set herself up because even though she didn't trust the perpetrator anymore, had given them more control in her life. I wanted to punch Isaac in the throat for how he handled it, and how he let his family dictate his life in the aftermath. Aubrey forgave him way too easily, especially given heartbreaking things happened as an indirect result. In the end, Aubrey just let anyone run all over her; her bestie, Isaac, and his family.
Additional I couldn't stand how they kept saying Isaac was finally dating a "real woman" after dating all the models. And saying smexing them was like doing it with a bicycle. But yet he had relationships with many over the years.
I managed to finish this book and all I can say is glad it's over and why the hell did I waste my time!! Firstly, there were many grammatical errors and mistakes which makes for a difficult read. Secondly the characters of Isaac and Aubrey were not that likeable, she was a pathetic mousy excuse for a heroine and he was very over the top with everything. I didn't feel any connection between them. The sex scenes and all the "Mr James" and "Ms Britton" references were so contrived they were ridiculous and it felt like at the end of every sentence Isaac said, he used the word "love", why is it that everyone thinks British people use that word excessively, as a Brit myself I certainly don't, nor do I know anyone who does. Overall this book was very amateurish and juvenile and I'd recommend that readers avoid it at all costs.
Book blogger and introverted Aubrey meets a hottie cover model at a book event only to be sabotaged by her own insecurities and the people in her life that she should trust.
He's an awesome book boyfriend, so I'll give it that.
I wanted to go along for the ride with her, but the amateurish writing made this difficult. I would have enjoyed this more -- significantly more -- if the author hadn't ended many of the earlier chapters with foreboding sentences... such as "Unfortunately by the time I realized how deep her bitter jealousy went, everything was in shambles" from Chapter 8. This kind of writing is completely unnecessary. Even the dumbest reader can tell that Chloe is going to be a problem without reading this kind of crappy chapter ending.
There were tons of typos and mistakes (who is G??). Characters just seemed to be introduced out left field (Ethan and Jane)?
I love when the h of a book is insecure but really pretty and gets the hot guy. They always have the prerequisite *itchy girl friend who stabs them in the back. Spoiler alert.........I cheered when Sylvie slapped Chloe and outed her a the real blogger who told about the H's past. I love it when *itches get exposed for what they are. I guess I'm shallow but I'm into payback. It really upsets me when an author ignores that in a book, it gives that episode a kind of closure. Real people need that so when characters in a book get that it gives more depth to the story. That is one of the many things I really liked about this book. It will go to my re-read lists. I highly recommend this book as a great read. SQ
Aubrey Britton is a bit of a loner which is perfect as a book blogger, she loves what she does. Now at a romance book convention, Aubrey falls for, well falls in front of model Issac James. Issac seeks Aubrey out and they fall into a relationship that Aubrey keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. After all what is a full figured girl like her doing with a hot cover model?
This was cute, but it was a bit slow. I liked Issac, thought his charisma radiated off the page but sometimes felt like he was trying to hard. Would check out more from this author to see what else she has to offer.
This felt like a total Mary-Sue read to me. I mean, a TMZ-famous model who does book covers? And falls instantly in love with the heroine when she falls at his feet? Pshaw. I also found Chloe very one-dimensional and her actions were completely predictable. The relationship development was okay, and the sex scenes were decent, but if you like this concept, I would recommend Cinder and Ella by Kelly Oram instead.
Out of all the things I could really say, I'm just going to go with, it's different. Being a blogger myself, this plot intrigued me and had me curious on how it would work. It's insta-love but I liked the characters, and the plot. Was well worth the read.
3.5 Aubrey and Isaac are very cute together, their love shines through the pages. They truly are meant to be together in the end, even though they seem from opposite sides of the world. It was a short read, taking about five and a half to six hours. I was a little annoyed when Isaac started calling Aubrey "Ms. Britton" and she called him "Mr. James" it seemed so informal and I constantly caught my brain correcting it to their proper names or skipping over it completely. At times it made me feel disconnected from the characters, and too much like FSoG, which was mentioned a few times in the book as it was. I cannot stand the "best friend", Chloe. From the moment her character was introduced I wanted to throat punch the manipulative mean girl. In all the book had a good story line, and it was very easy to be pulled into, but there were things that could have been polished better. I would recommend this book, if asked about it, solely so a reader could make their own opinion about it.
I had mixed feelings about this one. It just seemed that he didn't have a good reason to fall for her other than insta-love & it kind of bugged me because I didn't really see how they could fall for each other on a deeper level. Setting that aside, he treated her like crap based on a false assumption without substantial evidence & without even giving her a chance to respond to his accusations. What he did to her (his family as well) was really bad. What bothers me is that she never saw anything wrong with his behavior. There was absolutely no anger on her part. He was constantly telling her how much he loved her & all of a sudden he was wiling to believe lies about her. It's like he never knew her at all & she should have called him on his bs. Instead she is dying to get back together with him & accepts him back with little fuss. I was looking forward to the great grovel here & I feel that I was robbed. She thought so little of herself that she believed she deserved what she got & that's just sad.
2.5 stars. This was a fun read but it wasn't awesome. It was every fan-girl's basic fantasy; she meets favorite hot celebrity, he instantaneously and inexplicably falls in love with her, her jealous friend tries to break them up, and in the end true love reigns supreme. The instalove didn't really bother me since that's what I was expecting but the characters were flat. Aubrey is every cliche of a book nerd all rolled into one with absolutely nothing stand-out about her and Isaac has no personality besides his extreme love for Aubrey. There is literally nothing to his character besides being a rich model and loving her. He does get a bit of back story but it feels forced, like he needed something to make him less perfect to make them more of an even match. Oddly, the most interesting and well developed character was Aubrey's crazy Aunt Abbie, who isn't in the last quarter of the book. So, it was a fun quick read, not awful but not amazing either.

It started out great, I loved the idea of the story, though right from the start I didn't like Chloe and felt that Aubrey should have seen that she wasn't really a friend, let alone a best friend. I loved the meet between Aubrey and Isaac and the start of their relationship. It went down hill though when the big drama between Aubrey and Isaac happened. And especially towards the ending. There were all these things happening and I was thinking where did all this come from?! It went 180° and I really did not enjoy it anymore. I finished it just to see how it would end but no, it was a rushjob towards the end and people were forgiven too easily.
I am so sad giving such a bad review because I hate to give anyone bad reviews but this book I just couldn’t give it any better. I almost DNF’d this one but forced myself to finish it. I just couldn’t find anything redeeming in this book. All of the characters were terrible. The h was pretty pathetic and let people walk all over her, the H still felt self absorbed even though he was supposed to have instantly fallen for her and the best friend was awful. Just not a good read. So sorry.
Knocked off a star due to repetitiveness and for the heroine not telling off her so called friend right from the get go. I'm sure she didn't suddenly turn into a mean girl. Each time the author brought up something a second time she acted like it was the first time lol and how many times do we need to be told she has her father's chin.
As an unattractive fat girl who had wonderful skinny pretty friends, I wanted to throat punch the "friend " every time she was mentioned.
It was VERY hard for me to finish this one. While it was horrible, I didn't particularly care for Aubrey. Sometimes she came off as...not so smart. Yet she was BOOKISH and, seemed to me to be, smart. It's hard to explain. It could just be me not digging on her. It was a different read for me, and the writing was good. Hence the 3 star rating. I'll look into to author again.
OMG!! I'm so glad I had to work, this book kept me busy the whole time!! The only thing I didn't like very much was the tragedy that came about in the middle of this beautiful story. First with the betrayal & then the junky so called friend. Very sad.
This book seems like it was written by a blogger (but not a very experienced one because ... WOW) or a writer who was guessing what bloggers' do. The whole thing read like a giant Mary Sue. I quit after about 49%.
I would be aware when reading this book it has heavy fatphobia throughout the book. If you can get past reading those parts it's not a bad read, a little predictable in the way the story was going but still managed to surprise me at moments.
