From USA Today Best Selling Author Raymond L. Weil comes the second book in the Star Cross series.
Over fourteen months have passed since Fleet Admiral Kurt Vickers drove the Profiteers from Earth. Eighty million people died while the planet was being ransacked and its wealth stolen. Now a new and deadlier threat comes from intergalactic space. An enemy so alien and so ruthless the entire galaxy is at risk.
The Destroyers of Worlds look upon all intelligent life as a source of food. Their ships are nearly indestructible, and they have come to the galaxy to begin their harvest. Even the Protector Worlds are powerless to stop the growing list of planets that are falling victim to the hungry Vorn.
At Newton, Admiral Kurt Vickers learns of this new enemy as well as a growing threat from the Profiteers. High Profiteer Creed is gathering a powerful fleet in the Gothan Empire. He plans to take everything of value from Earth and then turn the planet into a nuclear wasteland. Admiral Vickers is once more forced to return to Kubitz. A black market world considered to be the worst hellhole in the galaxy. Only on Kubitz can Admiral Vickers find what he needs to save Earth.
I live in Clinton Oklahoma with my wife of 40 years and our cat. I attended college at SWOSU in Weatherford Oklahoma, majoring in Math with minors in Creative Writing and History.
My hobbies include watching soccer, reading, camping, and of course writing. I coached youth soccer for twelve years before moving on and becoming a high school soccer coach for thirteen more. I also enjoy playing with my five grandchildren. I have a very vivid imagination, which sometimes worries my friends. They never know what I am going to say or what I am going to do.
I am an avid reader and have a science fiction / fantasy collection of over two thousand paperbacks. The space program has always fascinated me and I've followed it since its inception. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an astronaut. Now, I just write about it.
Cranking out military science fiction books seems to be all that Raymond L. Weils every does. I have read more of his books than any other author. I don’t actually go looking for his books, but being a subscriber to his web site brings me all his latest works which I gladly pounce on because I know it’s going to be great.
Here’s another great book focusing on Fleet Admiral Kurt Vickers and his command ship, Star Cross. This is the same Fleet Admiral Vickers that saved Earth from almost total destruction with only a very meager battle group. It’s also the same guy that went to the planet Kubitz to buy more starships and defensive satellites and platforms so as to defend Newton and then Earth. Newton is an Earth colonized planet that has yet to be harassed by the Profiteers. The Profiteers, led by High Profiteer Creed, have once again met with a larger and much improved fleet lead by Admiral Vickers in the Jublian system. He pretty much wipes Profiteer Creed fleet from space, but Creed and his command ship escape.
High Profiteer Creed is not done with Earth. He still believes that it has the largest amount of gold on of any known planet and he wants all of it. So, now, back at Kubitz, he’s building an even larger fleet or armada and bringing in mercenaries and other smaller clans to go on one last mission to Earth. Fleet Admiral Vickers knows what Creed is up to and he’s going to stop him one way or another.
While all this is going on, civilizations closer to the galactic center where “Enlightened Worlds” whose civilizations had technology far advanced of anything humans could dream of. They were protected by the “Protector Worlds” which had the responsibility of defending Enlighted Worlds and their own. Again, their technology was vastly superior and advanced that what Earth had now or for the foreseeable future. All of these advanced civilizations were just now becoming aware of the Dark Ships. These were black ships that came from another universe. They are systematically destroying colony planets. Every living thing on these planets is wiped clean, but no one knows why. They only know that an ancient civilization seems to have returned. This civilization was known as the Destroyer of Worlds and they were living up to their name. Nothing the advanced civilizations threw against them were doing any thing to stop their advance.
So, now Earth and Newton have not only the Profiteers to contend with, but also in the near future, the Destroyer of World fleets. And since Earth and Newton were considered barbaric civilizations, they don’t seem to stand a chance against what’s coming, provided they even survive the Profiteers.
This is a great read with a lot of characters that come back in each book. It’s nice that your main character is Fleet Admiral Vickers since that gets you involved in everything. One thing that doesn’t make sense is the deal with a Cabinet member on President Mayfield’s Cabinet. This guy Marlen Stroud is causing some real political problems with the President. Why he hasn’t been sent to prison for his previous actions during the initial attack by the Profiteers is beyond me. I guess he just has to be part of the book for some reason.
So, I suppose there will be another book in what I can’t really determine if it’s a series or not. None of the other books actually say they are part of a Star Cross series, but that’s what it sounds like we have. I’m eager for the next one.
This book is full of action and a little bit of politics. The politics should be obvious as typical politicians back stab others. But this book is more about finishing one war, while a new one begins. We get a larger scope of the galaxy as a whole in this book. And of course there are new invaders, that have indestructible war ships that leave planets without a single trace of evolved life. Races older than we can imagine are powerless to stop them. While this is taking place Newton and admiral Vickers are planning a defense to profiteer creed and his mercenaries. Will they finally be able to put an end to his menace and protect earth, or will he loot the planet again. The action is great, the book is well edited, and the pace is perfect. I read this book in 2 days as I could not put it down.
A well written and well developed storyline is continued with the Dark Invaders. As Newton continues to grow and expand it's navy, Earth struggles to recover from the devastation inflicted by the Profiteers. This book is both an end story and a continuation and intro for the upcoming battle with the Dark Ships. I really enjoyed the plots revealed and look forward to their expansion in the next book. Raymond Well has done a great job with the characters and laying the foundation for their roles in the upcoming book.
In the second book of what I am sure will be a interesting series, we see admiral Vickers and his crew face a great threat. The profiteers still want to raid earth. But this time they have inside help. President Mayfield's cabinet is working against him, lead by Stroud. Can Admiral Vickers build up his forces to defend earth and get them ready for the possible attack by the dark ships.
His books just keep getting better and better. He has an unbelievable imagination. I cannot believe how good his books are!!! We are already into the third different story and it just gets better and better. Thank you Raymond L. Weil...
Where do these stories come from? Thanks for another incredible journey to the future. Keep them coming for us whose imagination is stirred by your books.
Character development is very good it does not detract from the action!
I have been reading close to 100 of various author's works on Kindle unlimited for well over a year now and there are few that stand out as exceptional. This series of Raymond Weil's, and I suspect all of his series which I will definitely read, stand out. I have been reading science fiction since I was a small child and have probably read 1000 books or more (that is not an exaggeration). These are still really good and I highly recommend this series. Thank you Raymond writing these and making them available to everyone.
Having read the first book in the series which was a very good read I had to read the second in the series which was also a excellent read, it's fast moving with an excellent plot that you want to just keep reading ,the politicians are exactly as the ones we have, a few are good and put the people first and the majority are out for what they can get with no thought for the public at all. I've started the third book in the series which won't take long as you just can't put it down.
This book is the 2nd one of its series and, I think, a bit better than the first one. The Earth emigres on Newton are doing rather well and gaining strength. Naturally, a new and unstoppable menace is in the galaxy turning entire worlds of people into a good source. So it seems clear that the next books will be dealing with them. In the meantime, corruption in Earth is truly messing things up and the fleet from Newton may be their only hope.
All the characters revulse when spitting out the words ‘weapons dealer and yet go running to them for their salvation while all the time shaming their way of life. Seems tolerance only applies so long as other cultures are not aggressive and capitalistic - the very things, it would seem, that’s needed to fight the enemy. It’a a good thing Earth has been mined for all its gold or our heroes would have been screwed trying to pay the ‘weapons dealers’.
From cover to cover the second installment of the Star Cross series delivers suspense, intrigue, and character development. Fleet Admiral Kurt Vickers is called upon once again to try and save the people of Earth.
This books ends most of the original story lines and creates a new set of story lines. Giving that I prefer the newer story's lines this is a good thing.
Not as good as the first or third books, it is fine for a bridge between them.
I have just finished this book and I think that this story has a lot of truth to what many people think that science fiction is all about! Thank you and keep writing.
A bit more depth than the first book in this series, but still quite predictable good guy bad guy story. Lacks the complexity of a Peter F. Hamilton novel, or the inventiveness of a Ian M Banks novel
The story continues and slimy politician's on earth are undermining the president. Newton continues to grow and the bad aliens attack earth again and lose.
