This is a well written book with strong characters and tons of emotions. The author does a great job developing the story and pulls you in with all the twists and turns throughout. She deals with some touchy issues beautifully and brings out all the feels taking you on an emotional journey while reading. Her scenes are painted vividly and the story moves fluidly. I was captured and held from start to finish. Well done!!

Don't give up... Look for the good in every sunrise..
For Caitlin what started off as a series of misfortune events lead to a forther downward spiral. After enduring so much pain an anguish she's finally ready to help herself after all she has her daughter Glory to motivate Caitlin to straighten out her life. Even as those in her home kept trying to push her pasted her comfort zone. Jarod lost his parents when he was young and he was lucky to be raised by his grandfather. He was unfortunately injured while he was in the millitary and was left by his fiancee. The best day in Caitlin's life is the day she meets Jarod plain and simple even when it was difficult for her to trust him. However the true turning point was when they each shared their stories and neither berated, condemned, or ran away. When Caitlin finds papers with her name on them an she realized her family had been lying and cheating her she turned to the only person she trusted. Then one night she gets a phone call her brother is in the hospital only to arrive there to find out the situation isn't what they thought that its a lot worse then either one can imagine. Slowly Caitlin is realizing just how much she doesn't knew her family that there are those who are willing to do anything to get what they want even snatching Caitlin's daughter. Now they desperate to get Glory back before someone hurts her.
This started out really intense and the story was moving. Then it started to snowball into something that was really hard for me to get into. Glory at 14 months has an extensive vocabulary and verbal understanding that far outsees her age. I liked Jarod for the most part. But the storyline with Caitlin just keeps adding something else. Each one more unbelievable than the one prior. Her stepmother, her brother, the shooting, attempted murder, kidnapping. The writing for me became stiff and jumped around. I really wish the author had chosen the topic the story starts out with and dealt with all that. Rape, PTSD, raising a child of rape, recovery, integration back into society. All that is heavy enough on its own but was just glossed over before adding all the neverending rest.

A great story. It starts with a lot of sexual violence and the PTSD that results from it. After her parents have moved, she meets Jared, an ex-soldier who lost his lower leg as a result of an accident. He also benefits from PTSD but together they are stronger. Then the story takes a turn. Caitlin's family is attacked and it turns out that a plot has been launched against her to get her trust fund. Her daughter is kidnapped to put pressure on Caitlin to come up with money.
How do you as a young woman ensure that you remain spiritually strong with everything you have already experienced? Can Jared keep her strong with his love? Good story, highly recommended!

I loved this book! The plot and characters kept me turning the pages and I could not put it down. It was an emotional read that has triggers of rape, violence, ptsd, depression.
Caitlyn was raped by her boyfriend when she was a teenager. She became pregnant and had to be institutionalized for depression and sexual behaviors.
When she was released, she meets Jarod who served with her brother in the armed forces. He was hurt in an explosion, lost a limb, and suffered from ptsd. They connect and help each other through so many triggering events.
There are so many plot twists with an ending you will never see coming! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout in exchange for an honest review.

Kaitlin and Tim were raised in a military family and when they went on a trip with her military boyfriend to the states her father thought she would be protected. But the unthinkable happened. Later she realized her trauma had led to a pregnancy. She was institutionalized twice. Jarrod had been in Tim’s company at one time but had lost his leg. He had demons of his own. But when he met Kaitlin and little Glory he wanted to protect them. The journey set in place for them wasn’t pleasant, but through love, the help of friends and loved ones and determination they survived.

Caitlin Colten was only 19 when she was gang raped. Now she is just trying to survive day by day. But she is finding it increasingly difficult dealing with her family and the drama they are going through. She is failing until her brother introduces her to Jarod and he helps her learn how to deal better with her PTSD. This is a story that pulls you in and keeps you in its grip. Great story that talks about PTSD.

This is a story that will hit you in many places and not always in a good way. Very well written with characters that are in depth and well thought out. The storyline follows one character's life through good and bad, taking us on a journey of strength and live. There are triggers in this story that might be hard for some but they are needed to understand why. Once you start this book it is very hard to put down.
First off, this book started off with a terrible trauma when Caitlin was only 17 (couple things wrong with that is that her parents probably never would have let her go especially if if a military dad and two, it would have been statutory as she was a minor).
At nineteen, she’s a mess and a mom, from that night.
Jarod knows her brother (who also let her down that night).
There’s almost too much going on especially when she’s dealing with her trauma.
I've read a lot of books written by S.I. Hayes; she has done a great job at writing another good book; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Battles of Life, August 14, 2016 By virgen caraballo
This review is from: Battleborn I got this ARC book copy from the Author for an honest book review and it really touched my heart so I had to give it 5 stars.
I thought that the Author did a fantastic job at foretelling the story and writing about some very realistic topics that people go through life like PTSD, Post Partum Depression, Amputation and Handicapped situations. They are all very important and real life topics that people go through and for many of us they are hard to deal with at times. While I was reading this book, I felt like I was right there with the characters and going through what they were going through because I could relate to what they were going through and how they were feeling as well because I have felt that kind of pain and suffering. This was a very good and emotional book with many twists and turns some that even caught me by surprise. I was glad to have read this book and to read the story of Caitlin and Jarod's story and all the things that they had to endure plus the ways that they had to learn on how to deal with each of their situations
Such a fantastically screwed up but wonderful story. I so didn't expect the evil stepmother aspect. And her brother! I didn't see that coming either. I couldn't put it down! I loved the emotional aspect that connected me to the characters instantly, the anger and sadness that built up throughout, and the hints of humor throughout too.
The relationships developed throughout the story become deep at a fast pace. Sometimes love finds it's easy to you in the dark places when you're least expecting it. And that through all that there can be a happy ending. Nothings every perfect and you have to fight for what you want.
Great read! I didn't want it to end. I wanted to see what happened after everything calmed down and to continue the story!
OMG I loved this book, I read the whole thing in one sitting and took up my whole day but that is ok because I couldn't put it down. This book hits on some triggers for some people but the author put a lot of knowledge and research into the facts behind PTSD and that PTSD can show itself in many forms. This book has action, suspense, romance, hot & steamy scenes with a little cute humor in the mix. The plot twist will shock you every step of the way from beginning to end. The author did an amazing job showing her understanding of PTSD and how it can effects everyone including family members differently and there is not a quick fix. Ms. Hayes brought this book to life with the detail and thought put into it. This is a must read.
S. I. Hayes is a wonderful storyteller. I truly enjoyed this story, it brought awareness to some hard issues, like PTSD, being bipolar and various forms of rape, but mixed in the chapters were messages of hope, survival and agape love. This book kept me on my toes with the rollercoaster of emotions I felt because there was a few scenes I had to pick my jaw off the floor. I believe the best books are the ones that causes your heart to flutter and this one accomplished that for me. I look forward to reading the other books written by this author. *In exchange for an honest review, I was given an ARC from the author.*
I absolutely loved how S.i. Took PTSD of two different forms and put them together in Battleborn. So often PTSD is missed and I believe in this wonderful book it gives enlightening to a problem many do not see. Yet another Fabulous read by S.i. Hayes
