This is an interesting look at who the young Garth Brooks might have been even though the man writing the book states that he did not know him well. The author was a drummer for Santa Fe, a band formed by Brooks as he worked toward his goal of fame and fortune. We see that his dedication and determination to become famous was with him even at this point. With such a driving ego and the energy to make it happen Brooks spent most of his time with music in one way or another. He focused on audiences and chose music to suit their tastes. The author notes that he couldn't understand how any one person could store so many songs in his memory. There was one incident that helped me understand the depth of Brooks' determination and ego. When the drummer was sick he could not accept that he could not play insisting over and over that he must play. However, when Brooks was ill, he cancelled performances rather than let other vocal members of the band perform. The author goes on to detail how each band member left Brooks. Obviously, the price of fame and fortune is not for everyone.
