This reference book on the two most important conflicts of the 20th century provides detailed accounts of the causes and effects of each war, as well as describing their main battles, innovations and leaders.
Good history, not amazing, though, not five-star worthy. Would recommend for history lovers, and non-history lovers! Not much to say, but would read again!
This is from my 10 year old son, who read this book to himself:
This book is about the first and second world wars. It's kind of long and really detailed. In the first part it's very long. The first part is about WWI. The second part is about WWII. I learned more than I already knew about the wars.
I learned more about the Battle of the Somme, and the Battle of Britain, and the Holocaust. The Battle of Britain was between the Luftwaffe (the German Air Force) and the RAF, the Royal Air Force of Britain. Something I learned about the Battle of the Somme was that it was in 1916. The British had an attack plan to bombard the German bunkers. The first day was Day U. This was to attack with shells of normal explosives. The next day was Day V. This was another bombardment of shells. The next day was Day W. This was bombardment with gas shells. So then the next day was Day X. This was bombardment with gas shells again. The next day was Day Y. This was another bombardment with gas shells. The next day was Day Z. This was infantry assault. On this day, Day Z, 20,000 British soldiers died.
I really liked the book. I liked all the photographs. Some of them had color. I liked all the maps.
