Although this is a fictional story Susan Keene has made it so lifelike. With the way of the world these days I can actually believe there is some one out there as twisted as Cletus Compton. Robert Cunningham does a pretty good job of narrating the story at times it felt he was stuttering a bot over the words but he still kept my full attention.
Cletus Compton and his brother were abused children by his single prostitute drug addicted abusive mother. Cletus has no conscious. Warren his brother was raised the first 6 years by his father and was tough right from wrong, but with Cletus there was only so far he could go.
Cletus decides that he would make the parents of the world pay for not keeping what he felt was a good on their children. He would kidnap the kids chain them into a wooden crate and feed them animal food while waiting to till he saw fit to contact the parents for a ransom. After the parents paid the ransom he would hold them a bit longer then drop them off in a populated area and give them money to get home on. That the kids that survived his abuse.
When a young girl is found on the side of the road still one rainy night Cletus and Warren go on the run. Now it is up to the Local Police and the FBI to get the live Children home, find the dead, and most of all capture Cletus and Warren, before more people or Children die.

I was provided a copy of this audiobook free in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, just wow. I don't know how you can absolutely hate one killer and feel so bad for another. This is tale of one very twisted, sick mind and one who was made to follow. Kept me riveted the entire time. The narrator did very well. The story was absolutely incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and would recommend it to mystery/thriller lovers.
( Format : Audiobook ) "Never let fear stop you from doing anything." The discovery of a child chained to a box by the side of a road on a foggy night leads to the even more dreadful findings of another 7 kidnapped kids including a dead girl, and the body of a youth in the ruins of a burned cabin. The hunt for the kidnapping killers begins. Psychiatrist and ex F.B.I. agent, Doctor Boo Jordan had been the one to find the original child and becomes involved in the hunt, together with local sheriff, Tony Massey and the F.B.I. Finding the men responsible becomes ever more urgent as extra bodies are found and the identities of the wanted men was revealed as brothers, Cletus and Wallace Compton.
Although the man hunt, further crimes and personalities of the key law enforcers, in particular Doctor Boo and her husband, are covered, it is the character of the two brothers which becomes the most fascinating aspect of this novel. This is an intense, evocative, even surprising well written story and it is well narrated by Robert Cunningham, who further pushes the reader into the ongoing of the action to it's surprising conclusion. The straightforward, uncreative realism makes it hard to distinguish it from a true story.
My thanks to the rights holder of The Twisted Mind of Festus Compton, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. It was a surprise, totally involving, even emotional. Highly recommended to all enjoying crime thrillers. I personally look forward to future Boo Jordan stories.
This was a exciting book all the way thru and kept my interest. Cletus and his brother Warren . Cletus would kidnap children who no one was watching mostly. He did it with ease. Him and Warren lived way out and he would bring the kids home and chain them to cages. He feed them oats and corn soaked in chicken broth. Tho Warren gave them fresh fruits and vegetable when Cletus was gone. Some kids he kept for months others he returned after he got paid a ransom for them. Over the years he had atleast 2o some kids. A few died from illness on their own. Cletus would not sexual abuse them Eventually he collected over a million dollars but they lived in a dump , dressed like bums to take away suspicion .Cletus was the mean one he could kill someone and not blink and eye were Warren was not like him at all. The police put out a huge search for them after they burnt their home down so they could leave and go elsewhere and start over. Seems like they were getting away with evading the police time and time again. Will they ever get caught?
Boo Jordan and her husband Dean came across something no one wants to find. A young girl laying hurt on the side of the road. But that sad situation is nothing compared to what is coming and the link to the Compton Family. The author takes readers on a thrill ride into murder and stepping inside the minds of those responsible. The author rights a reader friendly story that flows well and is a page turner.
Wow! Double Wow! What an amazing thriller! Undoubtedly, one of the best books I have read so far. I could not take my eyes off the book even for a moment. Dr Boo Jordan and her husband Dean Jordan come across a little girl lying on the road with a chain in her hand. They rescue her and bring them home. Boo calls her friend Detective Tony Massey to interview the rescued girl, Courtney. She tells them about her ordeal with the kidnappers. Her kidnapping and subsequent rescue is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many such poor children, some dead, some alive, waiting to be rescued from the crazy psychopath, Cletus and his brother Warren, who is scared of his brother and does his bidding. FBI and the local police join hands to take on these criminals and hunt them down. Would they be able to stop their kidnapping and killing spree? A must-read super thriller.
This is a weird crime novel. The narrative follows the crime spree of two brothers, involving the kidnapping of children.
The older of the two siblings, Cletus, is a true sociopath and seems not to have any end to his evil acts. However, these evil acts and the blunt narrative does not lead us anywhere likeable. The story was boring for me and the characters did not click.
Unfortunately, this story suffers from poorly developed plot and characters. Transitions are abrupt and sometimes confusing. The problem is exacerbated by the lackluster performance of Robert Cunningham. His falsetto voicing of female characters is much too artificial and his failure to distinguish male character voices makes it difficult to follow dialog between them. This story seems superficial, lacking substance to engage the reader. And the premise can hardly be believed.
