Sir Michael Terence Wogan, KBE, DL (born 3 August 1938), or also known as Terry Wogan, is a veteran Irish radio and television broadcaster who holds dual Irish and British citizenship. Wogan has worked for the BBC in the United Kingdom for most of his career. Before he retired from the weekday breakfast programme 'Wake Up to Woga'n on BBC Radio 2 on 18 December 2009, Sir Terry had a regular 8 million listeners, making him the most listened-to radio broadcaster of any European nation. He began his career at Raidió Teilifís Éireann where he presented shows such as Jackpot in the 1960s.

Wogan has been a leading media personality in the UK since the late 1960s and is often referred to as a national treasure. He is perhaps best known in the United Kingdom for his BBC1 chat show Wogan, for his work presenting Children in Need, as the host of Wake Up to Wogan, the original host of the BBC game show Blankety Blank (before being replaced by Les Dawson), a presenter of Come Dancing in the 1970s, and as the BBC's commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest on radio and television from 1971 to 2008. Wogan started a primetime weekend show on Radio 2 from 14 February 2010.

When I first started the book I had to give up. Terry’s wonderful way of speaking was coming right out from the pages and I missed him so much that I found it upsetting. When I’ve taken the book back up 2 years later I found this comforting and enjoyed the ramblings and anecdotes immensely. He gave so much and enjoyed his life while doing so. Recommend to all TOGs and TYGs and you’ll surely enjoy it even if you don’t know what those are!!

Picked up ages ago second hand as I was a big fan of TW's breakfast show on BBC Radio 2.
Sadly, he passed away coming up for 3 years ago now, and we shall not hear his like again on the broadcasting end of a mike.
Anyway, I think, interesting though this first part of his memoirs are, his parents, family history and early life, I am not tempted to read further parts.
Fond memories of watching Blankety Blank with my grandparents and listening my Dad getting up for work and switching on Radio 2 which meant I did too as my bedroom was directly above the radio!
I will donate this to our church bazaar book stall.

Boring. Yes it was boring, if you're not that bothered by the inner workings of the BBC, you are not into golf or name dropping, you will probably also find it boring. I freely admit I was a TOG in my mid 20's, but unfortunately not much of that wit came through in this book.

Three hours of Terry telling his life story was a joy to listen to. The brief mention of the death of his firstborn nearly set me off crying! Although 25 years since publication, this is still a great listen and I loved having Terry talking on my commute.

I read this book before Terry passed and thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the man behind the microphone.

A good read, full of the belated Terry's charm. His amusing anecdotes.

This is about his life story and his presenting Radio 2, Children in Need and Eurovision. He was one of the nicest, down-to-earth guys you could meet, making this a brilliant read.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I was fully aware of Terry Wogan though, as my Dad liked him, he didn’t become an immediate favourite of mine (plus I listened to Radio 1). But I listen to Radio 2 now and like Wogan a lot and kind of wish I’d paid more attention before but there you go. This tells his story, from birth to 1985, in his quirky voice that had me smiling and laughing and, occasionally, wiping a tear away. I’d have preferred more of his time after he met his wife and a little less of the earlier stuff, but that’s a minor quibble. This is a chummy read, honest but decent and highly recommended.

Terry Wogan was a British/Irish institution, I've never heard a bad word about him.
This book however was far too short for a man that achieved so much and met so many stars. Almost no mention of his chat show stories, was Terry just trying to be too nice ?
Wogan is sadly missed, it was good to hear him read the audiobook, I just wish it was fuller and longer.

I really like Terry Wogan on the radio and TV, but I found this book rather boring. I think it was more the style really than the contents. Maybe I should have listened to it as audio book whilst potting around the house, as it didn't keep my attention sadly.
