Runners will enjoy this fun and lighthearted look at running enthusiasts who, of course, resemble them in many ways. This is both a send-up of runners and an affirmation of certain aspects of the running life. While laughing at this satire of the habits, attitudes and lifestyle of runners, they are laughing at themselves and also getting solid advice and tips on the activity they love.
I think I was expecting to like this book as much as "The Road Cyclists Companion" which was humorous but also useful. The quizzes and lists of events were easy to skip over, I guess I'm not into the format of them, but other parts were interesting in a way. Overall the book was forgettable for me, not even the pleasant diversion I was hoping for making fun of runners (of which I'm an avid one) but rather more of an extended magazine article.
This isn't really the type of book that you read cover to cover although this is what I did. It is definitely a book for runners or people who call themselves runners. I like to run but I don't think I am a runner. It supports running clubs and races. It takes about techniques and famous runners. It was a good read and I learned a lot about the habit of runners.
